Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 03/06/2009 10:18

That's great! Hope you don't have to wait too long for that initial course

glaskham · 03/06/2009 10:22

Me too- i'm rearing to go!!

I also think i'm going to put a complaint in about the staff who made me give formula, and making me feel i'd be neglecting her if i didn't give her it. She was 6wks old when they made me put her on it... and she'd only been out of hospital for about 8 days after being ill and loosing the initial weight she'd gained!! When she was on the fomula and only gained 1.5oz in a week their answer was another bottle, not stop because of my supply tailing off- they aren't qualified to give breastfeeding advise for a full-term baby let alone a prem baby!! Rediculous!!

Cosmogirl · 03/06/2009 10:36

Morning all,

Sleep-deprived here.....DD still not herself after the jabs. Had a bad night with her up nearly every hour but she didn't seem that interested in feeding. Ended up going to the spare room and co-sleeping because she was so fussy and upset.

Also on top of the tiredness I've started bleeding - was just light spotting yesterday but seems heavier today. I started the mini pill about 12 days ago but didn't think that I would start bleeding like this esp since I'm breast-feeding. I've given NHS direct a call to see what they say as I'm not too impressed so far. Anyone have any advice re: mini pill?

Weather dull here today. Enjoy Britters Jules!

Diege · 03/06/2009 10:53

COSMO, I was on the mini-pill when I got pregnant with dd1 ; took it at 10pm one night rather than 6pm, which would be fine on combined pill, but a no-no on mini! Gave dh a bit of a shock as we'd only been seeing each other 4 months! I do know that some women break through bleeding could be a problem, so may well be worth seeking advice. I mean all that bleeding sort of defeats the object!
SES, re: 'opt out' what I mean was that, after the initial ok from hv (visit after 10 days ?), I just didn;t go to the weekly weigh-ins - sort of opt out by non-compliance. The problem comes I suspect when you are already 'in the system' and being monitored, perhaps because of 'concerns' re: prem baby or dropping centiles etc. I was lucky too in having a very easy going hv at the time, and with dds 2&3 I was just left to get in with it anyway after the 10 days, with the usual disclaimer of 'get in touch if you have any worries'. Suited us all fine! For all I knew the dds could have dropped off the chart, but they were feeding well and healthy, so ignorance was bliss!MOOS, lol at having to go and get a cornetto Sounds like you're now feeling some of the benefits after your sickness
TINKS, sounds like you're on a high there . Great news about apprentice on sunday too - should easily manage that - will be gutted if in hossy!
GLASK, I think you have a point there about the complaint, esp considering how quickly and without any 'evidence' the advice to ff came. I'm afraid I'll be badgering you(and others) for bf advice - you should set up some sort of bf advisory service!

idreamofbeanie · 03/06/2009 11:29

Ses - good luck with the weigh-in today. How are you finding your britax vigour? I am still in 2 minds about whether or not to get the carrycot, I just think it looks a bit more sheltered for the winter months when she is still very small. I suppose there's no rush to decide, I won't order it for a couple of months. I'm such a planner though I like to have the decision made .

Diege - glad you are feeling better today, wouldn't want you to miss the final and my sweepstake date isn't till net Tuesday .

Jules - hope the concert is amazing!

Glask - hope you can do the course soon but we wagoners will keep you busy handing out advice until then .

Cosmo - hope you manage a couple of naps today.

Moosy - the only thing I craved was pints of very cold milk. Cornettos sound a much better craving! Not sure about the supernoodles though .

Hello to everyone else .

sorky · 03/06/2009 11:33

Ses when you get him weighed today just state that you don't intend on giving FF and you can't feed him anymore than you are, that you fully believe he'll be fine by 8 weeks or so (when almost all babies regain their birth weight or exceed it) and you don't think having him weighed is a very good idea.
It's stressful, which e will pick up on and is undermining your confidence as a new mother.

I had Dd1 weighed, as you do, then refused for all the other three except initial birth weight and d/c from service weight.

He's only 3 weeks old, it's early days for him still. Give him 8 weeks (as a paed would advise) and he'll be fine. BF can take up to 6 weeks to be fully established.
At this early stage if you give him any FF you will lose your milk supply as Glask has already said.

Thanks for that Moos, super-noodles eh?
He's coming on Saturday morning to give us an opinion on whether the proposed build is likely to get through planning and an initial "what do you want to do" session.
He works with the builder we want to use, so hopefully they are able to communicate with each other. I'm a bit nervous tbh and I've also got to find the money too

Moosy · 03/06/2009 11:45

We're still wonering where the money'sall going to come from too and we've started work! I think come Christmas we might have no choice but to move in to half finished shell of a house, oh well, it will be an adventure!

What are your plans for your house?

sorky · 03/06/2009 12:07

A second storey to give us another 3 bedrooms and a another bathroom. Ball park is 35K, so I'm thinking 40k. BUT it will cost another 300k to move to the same size house we end up with. Street is a mix of 2 & 3 storey houses so hopefully planning won't be a problem, ours us 2 storey ATM.

glaskham · 03/06/2009 12:32

wuhoo!! my horrid neighbour (with the 2 naughty DS's) has moved out!!!! they are doing the house up ready for the new tenants i think... i just hope its some nice new neighbours!!

Sorky- posted card today (finally )... house plans sound like they'll go throguh easy enough if there are already 3 storey houses in the st.

glaskham · 03/06/2009 12:41

right i'm gonna finish lunch with the DC's then attempt a nap...

may be back later.

lastboxoftampons · 03/06/2009 13:28

Afternoon

Sorky - good luck with planning! Ours was a nightmare, but all worked out in the end. It took about a year, but we were able to save the money we needed in that time and have ended up with nearly no debt - so there is that silver lining if it takes a bit of time!

Jules - enjoy the concert! She is looking much better these days, I hope she's got herself together!

Moos - Glad you're finding some compensation for the sickness!

Ses - YES! I did see Lottie's announcement! Such great news! although I've yet to get on there to congratulate her. Good luck with Owen's weigh-in today - and LOL about him holding his poo until after!

Glask - class sounds great, good luck with it. And YAY for neighbors moving! When I was visiting my parents, my mother was overjoyed to see a For Sale sign outside the neighbors' across the street - my dad has been arguing with them all year!

Kooky - so sorry your boss is being a jerk. I can't believe you only have 19 days left! lucky duck! I updated my stats to say 34 days, but I think it's actually 28! Enjoy your time off! I don't think it's too weird to name your kids with the same letter, but I think it depends on the names.

Diege - sounds like things are starting to move! Maybe the little fella can hold off until next Wednesday though

IDOB - we're also thinking the Vigour, although DH had a pram wobble before I left and made me go to John Lewis and M&P. He's now sold on the M&P Switch - but I'm still loyal to the vigour. Please everyone give me bad things to say about the switch!

Also...anyone have any recommedations for a baby monitor? And I plan on BFing, but have some bottles, just in case (and am also considering doing GF where she recommends a bottle feed of EBM for the evening feed) - do I need a sterilizer?

Diege · 03/06/2009 13:42

Good news on neighbours moving GLASK How long until they're out?

Hi LBOX! I will also be doing the gf plan whilst bf, so will be having expressed bm at late feed like you. I've bought a microwave steam steriliser (the avent one) as thought it easy to do bottles and breast pump together. I think it's also fine to put in dish washer too (US guidelines I think)as this is seen in States as fine, in lieu of sterilising, but downside for us when we did this was discoloured teats! You could of course boil in pan/soak in milton instead if you don't want to shell out on steriliser, though microwave ones can be used for cold water sterilising too (good for hols). I love my steriliser

mommyinthemiddle · 03/06/2009 13:43

Hey everyone sorry for neglecting you all, been busy as usual, started the packing of cases today, 3 done already with stuff we don't need!
DS is doing really well, weighed yesterday day 13 10lb 7 oz, the little porky pig. no wonder he wants to feed so much.
will go back and read through now

Kayzr · 03/06/2009 14:48

Hello,

Sorry I have been useless recently. I've been doing alot of stuff with DS1. We made cheese biscuits today and I did some apple for DS2.

My mum is buying my brother and me a car!!! She is going to give us lessons. I am really looking forward to it and hopefully I'll learn pretty quickly.

I hope everyone is ok today!!

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 03/06/2009 16:23

Kay - wow! Car sounds good!!!

IDOB & LBOT - still pleased with the Vigour

Thanks for all good wishes for weigh in. On Monday she recorded his weight as 3440g (even though we also got a reading of 2460g and 3480g). Today he weighed 3480g. No further loss whichis good and she was supportive enough. She also measured his length and head circumference, both of which have gained 1cm in the last 2 weeks so that's encouraging. Have to see GP tomorrow to get him checked over again and then HV back Mon or Tues.

lastboxoftampons · 03/06/2009 17:41

Glad to hear weigh-in went well, Ses and that the HV was supportive. Lots of toing and froing to the doctor, though Hoping he puts on more weight so they leave you alone!!!

Kay - car sounds fab - would you share it with your brother?

MITM - Hi! Are you ready for your move???

bumpsnowjustplump · 03/06/2009 17:51

Evening all..

Owen has still been really sick today but I guess it is only day two so I have got to give it more time...

He has however been really happy and smiley all day and ..................... slept for a whole hour this afternoon...

also

He went through from 9 - 5 last night... he wouldn't go back to sleep after that but wow.....

Diege sounds like you may be holding your son before to long.

Ses so pleased owen has put on some weight..

sorky did you get your digging done?

Hi to everyone else...

star thanks for tips as per timing i will try and get them down him 20 mins before feeds....

Diege · 03/06/2009 18:05

LB, it sounds like new meds are having some effect LB - he's obviously not in discomfort if he's sleeping through that ;you must feel better too!

SES, that hv/gp regime sounds really draining - good that weight seems fine, but would find all the checks quite stressful myself! Hoping they'll leave you both alone soon, tis obvious he's thriving

KAYZ, car sounds good! You should pick it up easily at your age too
Just had mini-nap on sofa to get me through 3 hrs of Apprentice tonight .

Doula coming tomorrow and we are writing the birth plan - have to admit I'm starting to get just the teeny tiniest bit irritated at the 'all pain relief is evil' line...there's no way I'm doing without my gas and air

Diege · 03/06/2009 18:06

'sleepig through that long I mean!

bumpsnowjustplump · 03/06/2009 19:24

i am not holding out much hope for tonight as I am wearing DS's evening meds!!!! yuck

sorky · 03/06/2009 20:27

Aww! I hope he has a good night, bless him

bumpsnowjustplump · 03/06/2009 20:59

Well he is crashed out on the sofa at the moment (just like his dad)

Kayzr · 04/06/2009 05:59

Morning!!

LBOT, yes we are going to share it. I am so excited!!

BJNP, Hope you got some sleep last night.

Diege, have fun writing your birth plan!!

Hope you are all well this morning!

sorky · 04/06/2009 07:09

Yawn..... Morning!
Kayz how exciting for you! Does your brother have a family as well?
Will be like a whole other world for you . The freedom of being able to go where, you want and when you want us fab when you have kiddies.

How will you sort out it's use do you think?

Kayz have you heard from Nat? Is she still in the same situation or are they trying to work things out?

Excuse any typos plz am on phone.

bumpsnowjustplump · 04/06/2009 07:35

bad night here.......... DD fell out of bed (dont know how she bloody did it because there is only a tiny gap in her bed) and refused to get back in her own bed so came in our bed. Not before waking DS (this was at 12.30) who then fed every hour and was sick every hour and so has spent all morning since about 4 crying his eyes out.

I have a headache, am tired and still have a whole day to get through!!! arghhhhhhhhhhh
