Kayzr · 25/05/2009 08:27

Glask, I would happily share a room.

Kayzr · 25/05/2009 08:29

Bloody hell!! The train is only £37.00!!

glaskham · 25/05/2009 08:29

Just looked and i think it's gonna be too expencive for me to come- the train will be £50, room would be £60 then i'd have taxi's from the station to the hotel, plus lunch etc.... sorry but i just can't afford it before the end of the year...we could do another meet later i the year maybe (after my holiday in Oct) and i'd be able to make it...

glaskham · 25/05/2009 08:32

oh, if we could share a room that wouldn't be too bad for me kayz.... it'd cut the price and i'd be able to afford it more... it'd be £60 or if we went on the 10th july it'd only be £32 both at travelodge... but i definatley can't make the 1st weekend- i'm in london for a family wedding...

will just work it out to see if i can actually afford it now i'm getting exited- got to tally up how much i have to spend otherwise...

Kayzr · 25/05/2009 08:33

Looks like I should be able to come. Just depends when. I can't do the 4th or 18th July.

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 25/05/2009 08:38

I'd love to be there for the next meet up. On phone so can't update list but definitely can't do 11th and 25th is tricky as Irish rellies staying.

Had an awful night here as headache took over. Took some high strength co-codamol at 3.30am and tried to drink a load of water but didn't really seem to help. Eventually got back to sleep an feeling better now although head still heavy.

DH and I both think DS looks bigger over the last few days. Good news but also scary that he's growing up already at only 2 weeks old!

DH is back at work tomorrow. Have my cousin and my mum coming over in the afternoon so just have to manage for the morning.

Going shopping today - need nappies! Also thinking of getting a Babasling. Does anyone have one?

Kayzr · 25/05/2009 08:40

I think Tink has one Ses. Glask has a great sling.

Kayzr · 25/05/2009 08:44

The only problem that I have is that I might need to bring both boys. DH won't be able to get the time off work to look after them.

glaskham · 25/05/2009 08:51

Ses- tink has a babasling which she never got round to using though IIRC- i have a fab sling- its on ebay- a 'celeb ring sling' they are brill!! I put LB's DS (around 13lb) in it on sat and i was fine with him in it, and i've had my nephew (around 16lb) in it too, i'd recommend it all the way!! have even put bethany (around 25lb) in it to try it as toddler on my hip and it was fine!!

Sorky also had a coorie sling she was using on saturday and that was fab- i have a similar one but its not the same brand- i think mine is a copy of that style.- i've not yet used the other one properly but have tried it out in the house and it seems comfy.

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 25/05/2009 08:51

Thanks Kay.
Glask - what's your sling like?
Tink - can you do me a quick review on the babasling?!

Enjoyed BGT last night. Am pleased with the result but don't think Susan Boyle is as good as all the hype makes out.

glaskham · 25/05/2009 08:57

Kay- i'm really not sure i'd be able to make it to a summer meet-up... working it out it'd leave me with no money at all whever we went, we have 3 paydays between now and the last date for a possible meet-up and all of them have a big chunk or our 'spendable money' spoken for already... june pay has my birthday day out & sisters 21st bday, first July pay has a trip to london for family wedding, our own wedding anniversary and Denis's bday present, and second july is right at the end of the month and has Denis's birthday day out... I'd really love to make it but i dont think i'd feel right spending the rest of our months spends on one day out for myself... after my holiday i'll be able to make one no problems- but as we've only got 5 months before our holiday and we've still got to pay for our passports and all our spending money i really cant after all that!! Gutted!!

Kayzr · 25/05/2009 08:57

I have a close baby carrier which I love and love and love!!! Would recommend it to anyone and everyone!!

Kayzr · 25/05/2009 08:59

Thats fine Glask. If I go I can find a little B&B or something.

Glask that is interesting about your sling as I thought that it looked a little thin and flimsy to carry DS2 in it. But if your nephew who is the same weight can go in it then it is actually quite sturdy.

I was thinking about what IDOB was saying and I think on days like today my sling might be a bit hot.

glaskham · 25/05/2009 09:00

Ses- mine is literally a big sheet of cotton material and 2 solid metal rings, it just wraps round you, goes over one shoulder and then you slot it throguh the rings and tighten it till baby is in the position you want them in!! You can keep the cloth through the rings to take off so you then only need to put it over your head, onto one shoulder and then pop baby in and tighten- it really is that easy- no adjusting, no wrapping and knotting or anything- just a sheet of cloth!!

glaskham · 25/05/2009 09:02

when they get to your DS2's weight you pop them on the hip and their legs pop out of the bottom so you create a 'bucket' sort of seat for them to sit in!!

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 25/05/2009 09:05

Does sound easy Glask
So difficult to know until you try and use though what will work for individual baby & mum. Think I'll just need to get one of some sort and take the plunge!

Kayzr · 25/05/2009 09:10

Most places will let you try them out Ses.

glaskham · 25/05/2009 09:28

well i've had 3 slings- and this one works for me- the premaxx is by far the worst!! its just like a bag and your baby lies in it- i'm shocked that they charge so much for it as its absolutley blimin awful- would never recommend it to anyone!! Then i've got one thats similar to the coorie- and as i've needed it for a teeny tiny size baby i didn't feel that was secure enough at first as it wasn't tight enough around DD2, but the ring sling is my fave- i can tighten it as much as i want so she feels secure in it- i'm currently wearing her in it now, and i'm about to go and mow the grass!!

But what works for me may not work for others- out of the 3 i've had this is by far my best!!

Kayzr · 25/05/2009 09:33

I had this for DS1 and I hated it, DH hated it and DS1 hated it. It was awful.

sorky · 25/05/2009 09:49

morning..
I have used a tomy safari, not bad but it's not recommended now because of the position it puts babies hips in, so I wouldn't recommend a front carrier.

Dh has the premaxx (bag) sling which he likes but baby is at risk of overheating. I hate it, it's too big for me to wear and not remotely comfortable.

Have a ring sling which is okay, don't think I've given a fair chance because.......

I LOVE MY COORIE

It's brilliant for newborns and babies with colic because it hold them upright with their legs in a frog position (best way to release wind)
Babies fall straight asleep because they are held tightly to your chest
Then as they get older (4mo), you turn them around so they face outwards to have a good look about.

Even older 6mo+ they sit on your hip. The coorie can hold a child up to about aged 2 I'd say, but obv getting them in/out when they that big is a bit different.

The only con is that you have to be measured for it, so if Dh wanted to use one he'd have to have a separate sling. Unless of course you're the same size.

I bought mine from brightsparkslings. You can of course make one should you wish to do so. I have done this and it's easy enough.

Past 18mo Dh uses a hip seat, which is also great. We tend to take one on holiday with us in case one of them gets tired.

glaskham · 25/05/2009 10:15

I've just mowed the back garden... came in and sat down and DD2 wasn't happy- think she liked the sound of the lawnmower!!

Going to give the grass some time to dry then hopefully the DC's can play out this afternoon.

My head is still banging- but my face doesn't feel bruised from my sinus's today which is a bonus...

Going to hoover the living room and then have a sit down before lunch... have another list of jobs for this afternoon too- the in-laws are coming on thursday evening till monday morning, so need to make sure everywhere is extra-clean & tidy... migrane can't get in the way i'm afraid!!

Diege · 25/05/2009 10:22

Morning!Hope you're ok STAR - that does sound like a bad night . Agree that the sun does really make a big difference! Can you sneak a nap or two today?
All this sling talk is getting me ready to purchase! Think I'll go initially for the coorie, see how I get in, then maybe a celeb sling like GLask's. Think I'll order the small, but if you get a chance SORKY could you look and check the size of your's?? You are smaller than me, so if you have a small I may well need a medium! to judge with a bump!
SES, I agree, don't think Susan Boyle is that good; think half of it was the surprise at her voice during the first audition. Loved the dance group, and agreed with Simon's comments about Natalie (how cute is she!); though she should have had her mum/dad up with her for final judging though. Looking forward to tonight!
GLASK, under water st would be great! I could do the 1st, 2nd or 3rd of June (older dds are still off school), or it would be after baby is born in July
Not sure about whether I could make next meet-up, mainly because I want to see if the new baby would be up to it (ok, me and the screaming on the train!) and also finances. Nottingham/Derby would certainly be more do-able, but would need to check out train prices etc. Would really love to meet everyone again, and to meet new faces!
Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine. I have more essays to mark, and am trying to make this a work day as have 2 weeks of hell to endure gorgeous weeks to fill with activities with older dds coming up!

GruffaloSoldier · 25/05/2009 10:34

Hey everyone,
Im up for Reading, fairly close to me, about 40 mins I think, if that.

Reading
Saturday 4th July-sorky,kayz, moosy, GYo, Star, Gruff (possibly)
Saturday 11th July-sorky(tricky),kayz, moosy, GYo, Gruff
Saturday 18th July-sorky, moosy, GYo, Star, Gruff
Saturday 25th July-sorky,kayz, moosy, GYo, Star, Gruff

Glad everyone had fun at the York meet up, great to see the pics.

Lovely weather yesterday, although gruff cub did not enjoy the heat too much!We went shopping round town.

Another BGT fan here, Im watching it again now Loved Diversity and I think Susan is good but should have done a different song. I think I would prefer Diversity to win so far though!

Ses - I have the Baba sling and to be honest, I don't like it much at all. Gruff cub is really squashed in it and does not look comfortable. I think it might be because he is quite long but he is only 6 weeks and its supposed to go up to quite old. When I carry him in it he feels quite unsupportive and he gets really hot in it. In fact we are going to get a normal front carrier one instead.

It is raining here today although 27 degrees so Im thinking it is going to be a muggy miserable day but we shall see. Hope everyone enjoys their bank hol!

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 25/05/2009 11:01

Thanks for all the sling info

Re BGT, Diversity were good but I think I prefer the other dance act, Flawless...

Kayzr · 25/05/2009 11:36

I love BGT, I really love Susan!! I wanted those 2 with the masks to go through as they were so funny!!
