divedaisy glad you're back! How horrible having thrush and mastitis. Please don't feel guilty about ff. There may be benefits to bf but there are bigger benefits for Sofia having a Mum who is happy and not in constant pain.

Grumpy maybe sulking can bring on labour? I was in a massive sulk when it kicked off with H.

sophietom · 15/05/2009 11:56

Fi so sorry to hear about douglas- hope you feel better after some rest

emmabemmasmom · 15/05/2009 12:02

mini I don't know what the record is, but with DD my waters broke on Saturday night at 10 and I didn't have her until Monday at 2pm so a totaly of 40 hours labour last time for me lol

Was thinking even if this one was half the time I would still have to do 20 hours! Eeek...hope you don't have a long one

Just made some homemade broccoli cheese soup so going to have some of that...yum!

Also been on the wii fit all morning doing the damn hoola hoop trying to get these contractions to speed up! No such luck yet...

pulapula · 15/05/2009 12:12

Morning all,

Is anyone with LOs ready for a post-natal thread? I am happy to set one up (although not feeling very inspired in the naming department!).

Not too bad a night last night with a few hours sleep in between feeds (still co-sleeping) and S is asleep in his moses basket for the second time today so nice to have a sit down on my own. He seems more settled today but could be because MW thinks he's a bit jaudiced which will make him more sleepy.

Is anyone else swaddling?. The discharge MW said it wasn't recommended due to suffocation risk if blanket ends up around their face. I've decided to do it anyway when he's in his basket as otherwise he wakes himself up with his arms.

chocolatebunnies · 15/05/2009 12:22

just a quick post from me today, things arent good here today, contractions (i think) started at 11pm last night, every 5 mins last 10-20 secs for FIVE hours, hav now stopped but getting tightenings and cant stand up without it feeling like the whole world is going to drop out my fanny. I wanted a quick labour No show just lots of discharge, waters still intact.

Fi so sorry to read about your douglas, hugs for you and your family x

minimenace · 15/05/2009 12:40

emmabemmasmum My waters haven't even broke yet so am definately in for the long haul yet.
That Broccoli and cheese soup sounds delicious.

Choco sounds like you are in the same boat as me. They timed my contractions on the monitor at the hospital, lasting nearly a minute every 4 mins, but now slowed right down.
They advised nipple stim which really worked for a while.
When they sent me home the midwife said 'I think the only way you are going to get this baby out is the same way you got it in there' then she gave me a ;)
Took me a few secs to register what she meant. And then I had to explain what she said to hubby to which he replied - right lets get going then.
not worked so far though

Febes · 15/05/2009 12:48

Mini and Choc at least something is happening with you. I think I maybe pregnant for ever. I thought my body knew how to do this .

My mum text me from Sydney airport this morning so shes on her way next stop Dubai and then London tomorrow lunch time. Very excited.

Dishwasher repair man came for the 4th time since feb to fix the sodding dishwasher. Better work this time thank goodness its still on warranty.

Jennster · 15/05/2009 12:48

chocolate Hope things are going ok for you. I know it's lovely and relaxing, but water can really slow labour down. It doesn't for all but did for me...

SpangleMaker · 15/05/2009 13:20

I have a secret!!

pulapula · 15/05/2009 13:22

ooh spangle- just refreshed and seen your message- is it frazzled? Is it really a secret?!!!!

SpangleMaker · 15/05/2009 13:28

No... was hoping to keep you all in suspense a bit longer but am crap at secrets & have had all clear to tell you...

Detsy gave birth to Archie at 0958 after arriving at hospital at 0830 - another quick labour!! He's 8lb 5oz & both are well. She texted me at 1130 too, only just picked up my phone.

And she said she was going in for a check up!

sausagenmash · 15/05/2009 13:30

Blimey! This thread is queen of short labours! Big congrats to Detsy - how fantastic!

Febes · 15/05/2009 13:35

What???? Mini I better be next detsy thats fab. Love the name Archie!! Congrats and wow what a quick labour there is hope for me yet.

LoobyLou36 · 15/05/2009 13:38

wow congrats detsy

another quick one

we are going to Majorca runningmonkey our last 5 holidays have been there. we book it all seperately so it doesn't work out too expensive and at least you can guarantee the weather a bit better than a week in a cottage in Devon (that was the other option)
hopefully it won't be too warm for Matilda as we're going at the end of Sept. Really looking forward to it (I think )

LoobyLou36 · 15/05/2009 13:41

just had a phone call from my friend who's LO is a week older than M. she fancies meeting up for a wander round the shops so has offered to give us a lift to town.
yay! I don't have to walk - was a bit worried as cs wound is v.sore this morning.

Febes · 15/05/2009 13:45

I'm going on a caravan holiday in september Looby and my LO will be nearly a month younger than yours and I'll have DD (21 months by then) but hopefully its family friendly and DH and I can relax. It will be good to be away from home for a week and forced to relax and have fun as at home theres always something to be done. You will be old hand by 5 months and M will be a joy. We went to NZ for a month when DD was 3 months and it was great much warmer there but dress them in light weight clothes and keep them in the shade and a bit of suncream and they are fine. Take a parasol for the pushchair. 5 Months is a perfect age as they aren't too mobile yet but they are in a bit of a routine. You also won't be feeding her solids yet so another thing not to worry about.

rosielady · 15/05/2009 13:49

Congrats to Detsy - love the name Archie too - my DS's buddy at nursery is an Archie too.

Mini and Choc I feel for you - you just want it to happen now - I know I do - I had to get DS home this morning as I felt queasy / Dizzy and had pains and aches last night and thought something was going to happen - but not yet it seems!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 15/05/2009 13:51

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY Detsy, another short labour and another fabulous name

I hope Frazz is cuddling her boy too.

Spangle I was going to stop sulking but I may carry on

Chocbunnies, Minimenace, emmabemma, febes I am thinking of you all, lets have some weekend babies. Febes, how lovely that your mum will be here soon

Is it time for a snack? Yes.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 15/05/2009 13:56

Oh and Febes, I posted something rude about caravan holidays on another post - forgive me I have hideous memories of childhood caravan holidays. The ceaseless, drumming rain, the endless games of Gin Rummy.........

minimenace · 15/05/2009 15:21

Well done Detsy - Archie is such a cute name.

Febes I am fairly sure that you, Clove, ReeBee, Frazzle Choco and probably Fi will all be before me. Anyway your lo is just hanging on til your mum arrives tomorrow and then will put in an appearance double quick. (Remember when I said something similar to BelgianC)

My friend has been round this morning looking after me while DH went to work. She has been making me laugh so much and sped up the contractions again. Will probably be in trouble with the MW now as she phoned and told me to rest and relax until she arrived to see me this afternoon. ooops.

So another tip for restarting a halted labour have a right good belly laugh.

alapala · 15/05/2009 15:24

mini sounds a bit like long haul.. for DS my contractions started on the wedns morning and he was born on saturday morning. It sucks! However it was all well and a happy ending, just his hand was up so not pushing well against the cervix. Just don't get too tired, and if you do, remember you can sleep on a epidural and get a bit of puff for the push! I think this is your first non?, so I would ignore all these super-fast labours (though I want one - didn't knacker my bits for nothing last time.. )

congratulations detsy!

minimenace · 15/05/2009 15:26

Oh I forgot to say my MIL called earlier she didn't realise DH had gone into work, then I could tell by the panic in her voice (cue high pitched fast inunderstandable french) that she didn't think he should have left me at home. So I was trying to explain and couldn't remember the French for midwife but managed to say the maternity woman was coming to see me at home and she then calmed down ... I think.
DH will probably get an earful from her later .... ooops

emmabemmasmom · 15/05/2009 15:34

ok i am in labour. this hurts. mw on the way. i got my breastpump out and within 10 min of pumping contractions started and have been very strong and 5 min apart for the last 45 min. oh i never thought i would want the pain but i do. just standing in the kitchen talking to family in the states to keep my mind off it and trying to stay walking.

will post again soon as i always thought it would be neat to post doing a HB lol

minimenace · 15/05/2009 15:36

Thanks Alapala not my first but will be my first normal birth, hopefully, as had an emergency C-section last time. I laboured quite a while last time without progression after induction. DS was in distress throughout.
I'm more determined to get this VBAC though so as you say am resting as much as possible when I can. I feel much more at ease after the monitoring at the hospital, this baby has a strong heartrate throughout the strong contactions and recovers easily after just a small dip which is why they are now happy for me to labour at home.

If this one arrives before the weekend is out I will be very happy. The appointment on Tuesday is looming.

minimenace · 15/05/2009 15:37

yay emmabemmasmom ... Good Luck !!
