also I am using lansinoh nipple cream. is this the best one to use?
(sorry tmi) have sore nipples

FiKelly · 08/05/2009 19:15

bookmarking for later.. off for a lovely bath.. thought I'd try the clary sage ;)

euromum · 08/05/2009 19:25

Hi Looby,

Lansinoh definitely the best nipple cream, very good for you and no nasty chemicals either, so good for baby. Afraid sore nipples are pretty much standard - I found that wiping some breast milk over them and then leaving them out on display (ie in fresh air rather than in your bra) helped quite a lot, as well as the lansinoh. I hope you don't suffer wtoo much or for much longer. Not so sure about breast pads, I always used disposable ones from mothercare and they were fine. Good luck with the bf, it can be hard but it's great if you can get comfortble with it!

pulapula · 08/05/2009 19:33

looby- I've never used mothercare ultra thin breast pads so can't compare, but i found that the most absorbant and slimline ones were the tommee tippee and lansinoh ones - think they are essentially the same (same manufacturer?) but they are pricey (worth buying in bulk if you see them on special offer). When at home, i use breast shells - cost about a fiver from boots, but are good because if you leak a lot and want to express, you can add the milk to your bottles, and also they save on the cost of breastpads.

pulapula · 08/05/2009 19:35

I should add breast shells are only useful when feeding rather than for general night time/day time wearing - and if feeding lying down, you need to remember to check where the exit lip is as otherwise it will all just run straight out lol (i've done this a few times).

minimenace · 08/05/2009 19:44

Pula can you actually use the milk that gets collected in the shells then?, I was never sure and worried it would be no good so tipped it away.

I used to wear mine at night until they got full up and the milk used to leak out of the air holes which wasn't great, I never did find anything suitable to wear at night.

When I used to wear my breast shells in the day I picked up a bad habit of walking around tapping tunes on them so HAD to make sure I changed them before I went out.

minimenace · 08/05/2009 19:48

Just eaten my Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi ... my gums and teeth are on fire.

I just hope it starts something, I have 10 days left before my VBAC chances dissappear

pulapula · 08/05/2009 19:52

Minimenace- I used to sterilise my shells each time i used them, and would store the milk in the fridge to top up my expressed milk, but didn't tend to use it on its own to make up a bottle as it tended to be the very watery "blue" foremilk. If i had enough expressed milk then i'd chuck the leaked milk away.

Blottedcopybook · 08/05/2009 19:54

Minimenace No, I'd been blocked for a day or two before I finally went last night

I'm so, so downhearted. I'm still having regular contractions but I'm so so tired and I can't get comfy to sleep. The pain is manageable (it really is just like period pain) but it's been going on for nearly 30 hours now and dammit I'm tired!!

minimenace · 08/05/2009 20:10

The sounds horrid blotted does paracetamol help much, you really could do with a good sleep to get your strength up - especially if it kicks off in the next 24 hours.

I asked about the loose bowel thing because I keep getting contractions everytime I go to the loo with a runny tummy. Sorry for TMI

Pula I used to freeze all my expressed milk straight away and use it within a month or so. Good idea to sterlise the Shells though I will try it (hopefully), just wondered how long the milk is okay for in the shells but not in the fridge. Excellent for topping up though I guess I couldn't really save all my nightime leakage ?

MatthewAndBumpsMummy · 08/05/2009 20:36

hi all

to tired and fed up to catch up propley and name everyone, hope people dont mind to much.

good luck and sending labour vibes to those of you with waters broken, contractions, had shows or have elcs coming soon. hope it all happen soon and all goes well cant wait to hear the baby news.

and sending big hugs and best wishes to any of you who are feeling down, under the weather or in pain. hope it all improves soon.

big well done to all of you that are breast feeding and babies doing well, and those of you that are struggling abit well done for keeping going its worth it in the end. dont feel bad for topping up with formula at the end of the day its what bests for you and baby thats important.

loving the thread title - please someone send me a baby quick quick quick!!! ive got no chance yet i know im still only 36+5wks. ill never be lucky enough to have lo early.

saw midwife on wednesday, had bloods taken, wee checked, blood pressure done ect... all the normals and they were all fine. measured 35cm at 36+3wks which is only slightly under so nothing to worry about, midwife said it should be a good average sized baby. ds was 7lb 11oz born so im expecting this one to be slightly bigger maybe as they say they tend to get bigger. head was only 1/5 engaged! done my birth plan with her and have decided to plan for an epidrual as it was such bliss last time and didnt cause any complications. she said she wouldnt be able to do any sweeps on me until at least my due date as they are not allowed to try and get you into labour early!

feeling sooooooooooo tired today, but prob coz done to much housework yesterday evening, also not sleeping well waking nearly every hr for the toilet! and workmen making lots of noise in the mornings! and ds came in wiv us last nite at 4am

llareggub · 08/05/2009 20:51

I need to moan...

I've had a really tough day today. DS1 is being a nightmare and is really acting up. He is being great with his little brother, but just won't do anything for us at all. I have no idea how I am going to cope when DH goes back to work. I want my darling little sweet toddler back, he has turned into a real horror. He really does lurch from sweet to horrid in the blink of an eye. We had lovely cuddles at bedtime, with lots of kisses from him, when he suddenly whacked me across the head! Grr....

I keep telling myself this is a phase, he'll get used to it, but it is so difficult!

pulapula · 08/05/2009 21:08

llareggub -sorry you've had a bad day. i think your DS is around the age my DD was when I had my DS (2.6). She started acting up when he came along too. We tended to get angry with her as it was attention-seeking stuff (e.g. wetting her pants when she'd been dry for months) and we were knackered too, but in the end, i think it was praise and rewards for good behaviour which helped turn things round. Not easy to do when you're tired and have a newborn to look after, but it is just a phase i promise!

Difficult to know what you can do about tonight's example of him whacking you . If its any consolation, DD has a "joke" where she is very gentle with my bump, kissing and stroking, and then will try and land a blow, which i'm usually ready for. Tonight she had a go and got my boob which really hurt. And she's 4.3 now and should know better really.

Momino · 08/05/2009 21:16

looby, I use the tomy tippee ones and like them. I've also got some breast shields/shells? that my sister sent to me but haven't tried them yet - thought they looked a bit weird . after this conversation i may try them.

Matthewandbumpsmummy, I wanted to 'order' an epidural as well but my labour advanced so quickly i arrived at hospital 8cm and they thought i'd give birth fast so had to be satisfied with gas and air. but if it would have been possible, i would have loved an epidural.

llareggub, sorry about your DS. has he been in this phase very long? I forget how old he is. my dd1 is my big prob. she doesn't yet know how to control her temper and will throw things before she thinks and then feels badly about it so cries loudly. like you, i'm really worried about how i'm going to cope when dh goes back to work. there will be up and down days but i'm sure you'll be just fine . it takes a lot of patience, doesn't it?

Hi, Bookmarking for later.
Just came back from having the hottest balti Jalfrezi I've ever had, couldn't finish it cos my tongue was on fire! Hope it'll do something!

Still have got that trapped wind type pain and sitting down for the meal was torture. I kept having to rock to keep comfy. I'm sure people thought I'm in labour, but honestly no tightenings whatsoever.

Mum keeps going on about it being full moon and it's bound to be tonight, because she's a firm beleiver in more labours happening when the moon changes (any changes she said and as far as I'm aware the moon changes a little every day )

Will be back tomorrow with some proper name checks. But I'm just soooooo uncomfortable at the moment...

Momino · 08/05/2009 21:19

oh, and thanks to all, for your kind comments on FB about photos of Harper Grace. makes me feel so happy .

Great new thread - love the title!

Blotted - something must happen soon, surely?!

ses - good news about tomorrow, how exciting!

looby - saw you asking about BF tops on the old thread. You don't necessarily need BF tops, you can get away with wearing a vest/camisole under a loose-ish regular top - to feed, just pull down the vest so that your boob is over the top but your body still covered, iyswim, then lift up your top layerto feed LO. Cheap vest are best as they can get a bit stretched, New Look (pretty sure there used to be one in Hereford?) currently has vests for £3, or Primark wold be worth a shot. Re breast pads - I'd second the recommendation for either the Tommee Tippee or Lansinoh ones, after much trial and area (and tragte like boobs!) I cam to the conclusion that they are wort the extra money. minimenace - lol at tunes on breast shells!

febes - your day sounds good, and about your banana bread too!

I've started my induction plan. Sent DH out earlier for a thai takeaway, had hot and sour soup followed by stir fried fish with chillis! Will probably have a magnum soon, and then some gaviscon!

flippineck · 08/05/2009 21:33

Sorry about all the typos , should have read something like:

Re breast pads - I'd second the recommendation for either the Tommee Tippee or Lansinoh ones, after much trial and error (and target like boobs!) I came to the conclusion that they are worth the extra money.

Jennster · 08/05/2009 21:40

Momino Great thread title. Carrot cake is winging it's way to you. It's grown up carrot cake with molasses sugar

Looby Lansinoh and Tommee Tippee and a few years ago Boots Ultra Thin were all the same. They are by far the best. The Tommee Tippee ones tend to be on offer regularly at Tesco. Gone are the days of BOGOF, but they were doing 3 packs for £10 last time I bought them. They last all night! I've never tried these before, but this time I've bought some of these as I use them for soooo long. Thing I'll save some money.

Pula That is a VERY good tip about adding the shell milk to expressed milk rather than adding them all together to make one feed. It's true it's all watery milk.

For those interested in keeping hens Homes wanted for chickens

Jennster · 08/05/2009 21:44

looby and yes definitely it's worth buying the cheap vests. Lift up top, pull down vest. No belly exposed.

Febes · 08/05/2009 21:56

I want a scraggy hen.

minimenace · 08/05/2009 22:14

It's funny my DH has been going on about the full moon too. Did I read something somewhere that you shouldn't look at a full moon when pregnant or was that shooting stars or metor showers or something ?

no idea why !?!

Momino · 08/05/2009 22:19

ahh, the full moon on the 9th. dd2 was born on a full moon. you're right in that a lot of babies are born on/around the full moon. I can't wait until tomorrow and Sun to see how many babes of ours are born.

I'm off to sleep now. hope everyone sleeps well.
