Hi all,
Trying to keep up on this busy thread!
So awful to hear about your douglas dog fi.
Congratulations to detsy for a quick labour. Fantastic news!
Although I have to admit to being very . I know I'm not significantly over, but I am starting to feel it. What with both my girls coming 3 weeks early and this one still perfectly comfortable where it is 4 days late!!
Had the mw again yesterday for 3rd sweep (as they are really worried about this being a large baby). Still no progression; cervix not dilating, very high and not effaced. She tried but nothing.
Had my doula / chiropractor round this morning who did some work getting this baby in the right position. Wondering if this could have been holding up the labour as he/she keeps flipping back to posterior (LOP). Anyone any experience with this?
Anyone any experience of big babies too? I was told at a scan last week that this baby was 8 1/2 and that it could gain a lb a week. Is this true???? Does that mean it's 9 1/2 now? (my 2 girls were 7lbs 4 oz and 8lbs 3 weeks early, so I am worried that they could be right....)
They want to induce me this time next week which I am positivly petrified of. I so want my homebirth....

cloveofhislife · 15/05/2009 15:41

X posts with emmabemmasmom. Brilliant news. Hope you have a very easy labour.
(Clove heads out of door to buy breastpump....)

minimenace · 15/05/2009 15:46

I tried my breastpump this morning too and now have a couple of teaspoons of colostrum in my fridge

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 15/05/2009 15:55

Emmabemmasmom Yay woo-hoo woop woop!!!

Blotted has had the prostin put in, so there may be 2 babies born today/tomorrow!!

ReeBee · 15/05/2009 16:16

Looks like we're heading for a busy weekend.

Congratulations to Detsy, lovely short labour and a great name.

How exciting, emmabemmasmom! Lots of luck!

Clove, it's rubbish being even a few days overdue, isn'it it? My SIL was 13 days over when she had her LO last week - she was due to be induced the next day but in the end had a home water birth as planned with only gas and air; baby boy, 10lbs 4oz - and no tearing / episiotomy needed. It's her 2nd baby; 1st was about 9lbs 5oz I think. I'm not sure how accurate the scans etc were - my SIL's MW told her the baby was 100% definitely smaller than her first. Plus, one of my friends was recently advised to have a CS due to a large baby, which she did, and he ended up only being 7lbs 10oz.

So, try not to worry. These things have a habit of working out. We're just an impatient bunch on here! (me especially at the moment...)

emmabemmasmom · 15/05/2009 16:26

whohoo 3cm now...sending another midwife. hope it is fast!

Febes · 15/05/2009 16:27

Emmabe You go girl. I am so digging out my breast pump. Good luck and hope that you progress fast and have your home birth.

Grumpy Don't worry about the piss taking caravan holiday comments. I too probably would have made them a few years ago. Its amazing what 2 kids and no money does!! Also as a kiwi who spent chldhood summers camping on remote beaches and treking through native bush, I am slightly piss taking of the Great British package holiday. Cracks me up! But each to their own. I can't wait for my holiday and I'll be lagered up playing jin rummy in the rain!

We just went to dump a load of bathroom related rubbish at the recycling centre and were peckish so stopped off at MacDonalds on the way home . I am proud to say that DD can now drink with a straw although she was more interested in sucking tomato sauce off the chips than eating anything. (bad mummy).

Momino · 15/05/2009 16:32

emmabsmom, impressed at the posting through labour . remember to breeeeathe and 3-2-1 'relaxxxxx' [tries to mimic soothing voice from hypnobirth cd but with non-soothin Ohio accent.]

detsy, hurrah and congrats!

sweeping, i was offered one at 40 weeks - is it different for each MW practice?

RM, thanks for doing the list again - it's changing each hour.

postnatal thread, pula you're welcome from me to start one as i can't think of a title yet. maybe one will come to me in the middle of the night.

runningmonkey · 15/05/2009 16:51

woah! Exciting stuff. Am on phone at mo (in bed )but will attempt to update list again later

Big congrats detsy

Hope all goes to plan emma

Right must get up now. Back later x x

ladyhelenatealltheeggs · 15/05/2009 17:03

Right. Going to do my best with name checks but such lot seems to have happened since I was last on!!

Fi so sorry to hear about your douglas dog. It is like losing a member of the family. Our cat has been with us 7 years and I would be totally devastated if anything happened to him. Hope you are feeling better.

Now who has had babies??
pula detsy jennster belgian flippin gosh I hope I haven't missed anyone! Well done and congratulations to all of you. I love reading those birth stories. Sounds like everyone still having these quick labours too. Good work ladies!

looby are you still pumping/topping up? Hows it going? Sounds similar to what we are currently doing so would be interested to compare notes. I am still pumping or BF every 3 hours or so but R still seems to need extra. I have had a grand total of 15 mls come throught in expressing which is completely demoralising. I really don't know what to do. Plus my local health food shop have run out of fenugreek which was my next step. Grrrrrrr.

MatthewAndBumpsMummy · 15/05/2009 17:07

just wanted to update my ds's age, hoping this lo will come early or at least on time as ds's birthday is 7th june, and would like them both at least to have there own special day if possible would be great or a few days inbetween at least.

Febes I know my 2 would probably have a whale of a time on a caravan holiday . I like the thought of you lagered up playing cards, you're truly a Brit now . I like the thought of me lagered up playing cards, but a few weeks yet. Although having said that, I think a similar situation (think French cider and 'le whist') led to me being where I am now (TMI!).

emmabemma keep dilating girl!

momi I thought the Ohio accent was a nice one? I'm feeling left out on the hyponobirth thing, but think I'm getting the gist!

Ladyhelen no help to you I'm sure, but I have a stash of fenugreek seeds here that could be crushed and steeped to make a tea? Is it worth you buying the seeds, or is it leaves you need?

Jennster · 15/05/2009 17:30

Detsy Yay well done.

emmabemma this is it...... Good luck

If I've missed anybody I'm sorry.

Damn mumsnet down again this afternoon. Managed to get a nap with little one though!

ladyhelenatealltheeggs · 15/05/2009 17:38

Right so in the last half an hour, I think I am closer to a decision on the feeding. Sorry this is a bit me me me but I need to get this out and start getting my head round it.

When I last posted R was in his chair and snoozing following a feed from me for an hour and a bit. Great I thought, maybe this BF will finally get going. 10 mins later, he is rooting and crying and clearly hungry. So I get his formula to see how much he wants. Cup feed the first 35mls/1 oz. Cries and roots when finished. Get a bottle and he guzzles (literally guzzles another 2 1/2oz). So I think it is now pretty obvious that my boobs are malfuncitonning despite efforts and they are not producing anything like sufficient milk. So I think this is the beginning of the end of BF. I don't know what else I can do???? I've been pumping and feeding like there is no tomorrow. Given myself piles from sitting down so blardy long from pumping and feeding. Its just not true that every woman produces enough milk. Its just not. I feel quite emotional about this but I don't think there is anything else I can do now.

Sorry to rant on. Had to get this off my chest. I am just gutted as this happened with DS1 but I was so sure that BF would work this time. And I've put so much effort in but to no avail. Feel quite weepy about it all.

sausagenmash · 15/05/2009 17:58

Aw, LadyH, please don't be weepy - can you call those La Leche people? Or is there a breastfeeding nurse person from your local hospital? I really, really do think there is an immense pressure on us to breastfeed - of course, its the best all round, yada yada yada, but honestly, formula milk has been invented for a bloody good reason, you can't tell people apart if they've been breastfed or formula fed at the end of the day.... and really, what you want and need right now is a happy you and a happy R. Please, please don't beat yourself up about it... have a non-MN-y hug, and a tons of chocolate. Hope you feel happier soon...

... yay for emmabemmasmom - wooo - you go!

Just rolled off the bed in the most inelegant fashion. Not sure how I rolled, really, but still.

Have taken moses basket out of the plastic wrapper. Pooey, it pongs! Whole flat now smells of either moses, or basket. Pah.

I've never been on a caravan holiday - but does going on a narrow boat count? Its sort of a caravan but whooshing about, isn't it?

This is going to be a busy baby being born weekend, isn't it? but at the same time. I can't believe I'm not going to be offered a sweep until 10 days post EDD. I might have words...

SpangleMaker · 15/05/2009 18:44

LadyH as sausage says, you really mustn't beat yourself up - you're doing a wonderful job doing your best for your little man and that's what's important to him. It might be worth calling La Leche or the NHS Mum2Mum thing, just in case they have any suggestions you've not thought of already. I think we'd all do well to remember in years gone by we'd be relying on support from female family members for bf-ing and now we're pretty much on our own. Hope you feel better soon xx

good luck emmabemma

Has anyone heard from Dandy? Just wondering how she & Hector are getting on.

SpangleMaker · 15/05/2009 18:46

Oh I forgot she had an emcs, poss not home yet.

Pula yes I'm up for a post natal thread but am equally creatively challenged regarding a title.

Belgianchocolates · 15/05/2009 19:45

Hi everyone. My 1st day on my own with 3 is as good as over. It went OK. We were only 10 mins late for school and I only shouted at the dcs for the duration of the drive to school, not before or after I was lucky enough that baby C let me have a good 4-5h sleep at the start of the night, followed by a few 2hourly feeds, but still. That good start made all the difference.

I wonder why we are having so many quick labours on this thread? It must be something we do, it surely must. And of course talking of quick labours: Congratulations detsy Well done!

Big babies As someone who has just given birth to a 9lbs 10oz baby at home. I can say: dont worry too much about your baby's size. The nice guidelines actually state that a large estimated fetal weight is not a good reason for early induction, so you should be able to avoid being induced if you wave the NICE guidelines in your consultant's face clove I had actually had a growth scan at 37 weeks that estimated my baby's weight 8 1/2 lbs at that point and it was actually not far off her real weight. The drs weren't happy about me having a h/b, but never even considered inducing me for her size.

I wonder what's happening to frazzled fi a great big hug for the loss of Douglas dog. I grew up with dogs and can still remember what it was like when one of them died.

We're going caravaning too this summer, but to France, so not quite the same as a UK caravaning holiday. C will be 3 months and more than likely in some sort of routine by then. I think best time to travel with a baby is when they're not mobile yet and if you bf, before they're weaned too. So chasing crawling babies and not a lot of equipment needed

I've got to go now to put the dcs to bed. I'll name check anyone else I've forgotten when I get back.

Gosh this 1 handed typed is slow.

Febes · 15/05/2009 20:06

Have been expressing for a while and have had a couple of nice strong contractions. So will continue expressing on and off and see if I can get this party started

minimenace · 15/05/2009 20:14

BelgianC glad you had a good day you are doing fantastic on your own already with 3
My sister has been having help with her 3 and her lo is 5 months now.

MW came earlier everything is progressing but slowly, Cervix is very short now and 1.5cms ... lol so she did another vigorous sweep.
Just been out for a very long walk with DH in fact we got a bit lost and ended up treking through a field and along a lane to get home - The contractions started to get closer together but as we neared home and the rain threatened we power walked through them rather than keep stopping. hopefully this will have helped

Well done emmabemmaM sounds like you are doing fantastic - Wow 3cms Keep going

minimenace · 15/05/2009 20:16

Febes - Well done you - Go girl. See I knew you were going to beat me

Febes · 15/05/2009 20:18

Nothing has happened yet mini I am getting a bit of colostrem out though.

Momino · 15/05/2009 20:41

mood check for all, PN and AN: is everyone ok, especially those who've had PND or AND previously? this can be a really tough time, late pregnancy as well as the early weeks with a new baby. i hope everyone is doing ok and, if not, getting support from mw/hv/gp/etc.
