Hello everyone and welcome to the list!

I have a quick question for you all. I am literally only 4+4 and haven't told anyone (apart from DP of course!). I'm at a wedding on friday and all my friends will be there. I am planning on having a couple of glasses of wine and making them last all day - fooling people that I am drinking when I am not. My DP said he will ask what I want to drink and I will very loudly say 'Gin and Tonic please!' and he will only get me the tonic.

How much do you think it is safe to drink over the course of a day (say 3pm thru til 11pm?).

I really don't want to tell anyone because I had an early m/c in Jan and don't want to build my hopes up this time.

Any advice would be most welcome!!

coffeeicecream · 20/05/2009 18:30

spirits i think would be a def no. no alcohol is best esp at the early developmental stages but one glass prob fine.

marmitemonster - sounds like you have some great ideas to hide an early pregnancy, I might have to use some of those myself - congrats to all on the site, I'm still a little shellshocked myself but finding alot of useful information on here.

rostbeef, congrats to you and thanks so much for your advice, I acutally live in South London so prob not going to go anywhere near UCL, but will see what I can find out about patient power in my neck of the woods

Blocka · 20/05/2009 19:13

I think I am going to have to get DP to drink all of my 'bought' drinks....I might confide in one friend so she can put others of the scent if they start asking.

You are are both right, though, need to keep my consumption down the absolute bare minimum - its just to risky (although my friend was pg over new years eve a couple of years ago - she didn't know she was pg though - she got completely hammered and her little boy is just fine!)

Laura233 · 20/05/2009 20:44

Hi,

Just found out I am 5wks this Saturday, due 24/10/2010... its my first so I am very nervous.

congratulations toe everyone else out there!

Laura233 · 20/05/2009 20:48

And yes I feel swollen too!!!

lilacpink · 20/05/2009 20:58

Alfiesmadmother yes I have had periods of feeling really furious too, as well as devastated, ecstatic, terrified. Hormones are great eh? Right now I've been feeling like throwing up for about 8 hrs - longest stretch without break yet - so weirdly feel calm as think I had this at the cross over between week 6-7 in preg 1: so think this is normal for me.

On the alcohol front, another antibiotic-based excuse I've thought of is sinusitus. It's not visible (i.e. no symptoms to 'act'), best to say you started the course a few days ago so now only have a mild pain in the sinus area (behind top of the nose and betwen eyes), better still can say doc advised alcohol can aggrevate it!

Londonlottie and Timette Re. bleeding. Don't know if this helps... but when I had this in unsuccessful preg it was most days (not just when I looked for it, but like period starting most days), went from red to brown, to black, and back to red (i.e. not just old), pains were on and off and central (not side stretching pains). Having said that, I'd still talk to a doc as you may get a referral for a scan sooner that will put your mind at ease.

I read on the Dec due thread (I think) that it's better to eat regularly and try not be sick. Thus, I've had a Chinese takeaway tonight, choc cake maybe next, but also fancy marmite on toast (I stop feeling sick for the moments I'm eating and for around 15 min after when I just feel tired!).

Laura233 · 20/05/2009 21:10

Hi Lilac Pink,

Not sure if you can put my mind at rest, but I am a little concerned, ok very concerned that I have period like pains in my left hand side of my stomach, i think i am just very worried and stressed that something may go wrong... is this normal or should I be worried?

Thanks for your help

Laura

Worriedunfortunately · 20/05/2009 21:24

Hello

Can I join please? My EDD is 15.01.10 and I already have one DD of 4.

Feeling very fat! I already look pregnant and I'm only 5 +5 !

skidoodle · 20/05/2009 21:50

Hi everyone,

Welcome all new joiners

What's with all the weddings this weekend? I have one on Friday.

I think over-elaborate excuses just draws attention to the fact that you're not drinking. I'm going to drive to the one I'm going to and say (because it's actually true, and I'm almost glad being pregnant gives me an excuse to be so lame ) that I want to be able to get home to DD if she isn't settling well for my parents. I know people will wonder, but I'm not ready to tell them yet. As long as they're happy to collude in my lies I'll be happy.

Ultimately women of childbearing age who normally drink not drinking makes people very suspicious. I'm not naturally a suspicious character so I never knew this until I found out how few people were convinced by my "I'm hungover" type excuses for why I wasn't drinking the last time around

starshaker · 20/05/2009 22:02

Worriedunfortunately are u me???

im due on 15/jan and look preg already aswell. i also have a dd of 4

lilacpink · 20/05/2009 22:23

Hi Laura, I hope you're feeling better - if the pains are stretchy, cramping pains to one side it could just be your ligaments stretching. If you have no bleeding and the pain goes fairly quickly it will prob just be that. I'm finding these less scary this time around, and sometimes move about to help them pass. If the pain stays in the same area, and is a strong pain, or accompanied by bleeding you could rest/call a doc, but TBH the advice at our stage of preg is normally to wait and see what happens - unless symptoms go on for several days/get worse suddenly then it may be a problem but equally could still be fine! There's also nothing you can do (barr massive impact to abdomen or drugs) to cause damage, and unfortunatly nothing you can do if nature takes another another course, but calling a doc may make you feel you're trying to do something. I'm sure it won't come to that though.

Worrying won't help, but that's so easy to say. I worry if I don't feel nauseous already (only as I know it was normal for me in first preg), and know when I get to the stage of feeling movement, I'll be thinking about movements a lot too!

Midwives can listen for a heartbeat, but even they offer the advice every preg is different and pains/bleeding can be normal for some. I guess the uncertainty prepares people to be parents to a newborn who is learning to communicate - you have to guess the answer there too, for everything!

bluespix77 · 21/05/2009 09:28

Morning, can I please join? Have just found out I'm due on Jan 16th. Can I ask whether any of you are experiencing no symptoms yet? I have none to report, my nipples haven't even changed yet, no matter how many times I go into the disabled toilet at work and hoik my top up! - would be interested to know of others symptoms or lack of them!

LessThenIdeal · 21/05/2009 09:30

Hi bluespix - i've not really got any symptoms, apart from 7 positive hpt's. I've felt a little nauseous and had a bit of heartburn occasionally, but apart from that, i feel fine. I'm due Jan 13th.

liny · 21/05/2009 09:32

hi,

Off to a wedding as well this week-end , fortunately I don't know anybody as this is my husband university friend- so will give the antibiotics excuse...
But off to visit my fanily next week and this is where it is going to be very very tricky... and funnily enough I miss a bit of red wine...I'm not a big drinker at all but it is the fact that I can not have it otherwise I'm also trying to eat something every 2 hours as I do fell very queasy. But can not have a lot on the evening as I don't seem to digest, so for me it is more evening sickness that morning one ;-))

kittykat765 · 21/05/2009 09:47

Hi everyone. I am feeling more dizzy and nauseous every day. I am also a teensy bit hormonal with this pg , also have other common pg symptoms such as peeing a lot and sore boobs.

Despite all this, I am still occasionally unconvinced I actually am pg so keep doing tests . I think I may be into double figures by now. You would think that the absence of af would be enough to convince me but apparently not.

Re the weddings and drinking and such. A good tip I have recently read was to say you have an upset stomach. I think this would be less suspicious than the anti biotics route. Especially if it turns out you are all going to the same wedding . I can just imagine a room full of pg mumsnetters all insisting they are on anti biotics.

coffeeicecream · 21/05/2009 09:59

Hi Laura,
I had funny dull constant ache pain on one siade last for three days and went to the doc who sent me for a scan and he said that it was normal and the corpus luteum/ similar to the pain one gets when ovulating. However If it is v sore and you start bleeding go see yr dr. I hope this helps a little. Try not to worry.
