Logic hope the monitoring goes ok.
Everyone else, thanks for the info on sweeps - mmm might not bother.
On snacks, I've taken some nutrigrain bars and kit kats just in case .
Intending to send husband out for a fresh fruit salad and maybe a chinese meal depending on when I give birth. Hate hospital food.

fisil · 29/04/2005 16:10

Regarding food, does everyone know whether or not their hospital will allow them to have food? I remember that in Epsom only the dad's could eat -- which I found to be cruel and unusual punishment. They do this just in case an emergency arises and you need to be rushed off for an emergency c-section. It just a precaution they apply to everyone, but it turned out be a good thing for me so I'm certainly not knocking them for that policy now. You can not be knocked out with a general for any kind of surgery if you have eaten recently. I can't remember why. Anyone know?

northstar · 30/04/2005 11:09

Hi Uwila, it is same policy here in irish hospitals - In case you need a general anaesthetic but tbh the last thing i wanted during labour was food, and I had gone in at 10am, before breakfast.
It was 24hrs later before i managed a piece of toast and cup of tea.

shhhh · 30/04/2005 11:49

Uwila, our hospital mw suggested bringing in food to eat during and after labour. They suggested snacks for us women like choc, gloucose sweets..anything you fancy really. Also suggested butties for dads and maybe mums but say they do try their best to find spare butties for dads but if you are anything like dh & I, we would rather starve than eat hospital food !!! Apparently they are ok with food being broughT into the ward after baby's arrival and during your stay and even have a fridge for you!
I thought the same about eating before an op (if one's required) and was advised that they only stop you eating if they know an op is going to happen I think the reason being is in case you are sick while unconscious and choking (sp?) but please don't quote me.... Although not sure how this affects you if you are rushed in due to an everyday accident etc..suppose they want to reduce the risk as much as possible and thats possible in a woman due to give birth....
HTH.

wow bit quiet on here today, everyone must be busy as its the weekend. well hope everyone is doing ok.
im feeling good today as ive had a migrane the last few days. i read in a book that people who suffer with migranes like i did before i was pg, often find that they don't get them while they are pg. but i guess im not one of the lucky ones. anyone else been suffering with headaches and have any advice to help them. as i can only take regular paracetamol at the moment and they don't really have any effect.

best of luck to anyone whos time is nearly here, ill be thinking of you.

Vindicated! Always knew I belonged on the May thread! Contractions every 7-15 minutes from 5p.m. last night (some of them sit down ones), but I kept telling him "no- must wait til May!". Still, not sure I'll make it through to my prefered date of Thursday. Just can't believe he can possibly stay in that long!

Still no sign. DS and I cooked a birthday cake this afternoon - in the hope that baby might take the subtle hint that he really needs to hurry up and have a birthday! But he seemed quite happy to consume it through the umbilical cord!

Oh, good luck fisil, all sounds promising.

logic · 01/05/2005 19:30

Good luck fisil! Nearly beat you to it yesterday though. Went in for my 1/2 hour of monitoring - Doc scanned the placenta, thought she saw an abruption and next thing I know I have a drip line in and she has summoned an emergency ambulance to get me to Slough to be induced stat!! Had a lovely chat with a very nice paramedic about local house prices and then spent the next 24 hours just being monitored on the antenatal ward. Aaarrggggghhh. Finally got sent home at lunchtime today so back to square 1. Hope everyone else made better use of the fantastic weather!

uwila · 01/05/2005 19:54

Oh yes, the belly comments. I couldn't agree more. I had a guy at work last week enxiously leave the elevator after taking it from floor 3 to floor 2 (I was taking it to ground). And as he left the elevator, I just thought, you lazy sod even I can go DOWN ONE FLOOR without an elevator. I keep thinking it would be really fun to curl forward and moan next time the elevator doors close. And then straighten up and smils and say "just kidding". But, then someone probably wouldn't see the humour in it.... oh, but I would.

Gosh, exciting things are bound to happen soon on here. Wishing everyone some good sleep tonight. You never know what tomorrow might bring?????

Speaking of the weather, thank God I'me not haveing a late august baby!

spots · 01/05/2005 20:12

Happy May, new babies to be! just popping in from last year's May Babies to wish you all good luck. Looks like there are a lot of you!

cab · 01/05/2005 21:44

Cheers spots.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you tonight Fisil!
Logic, that must have been scary - hope you're doing ok now.
Myermay I'm in danger of punching the next person who comments on my pregnancy.
18Mumtobe - migraines must be horrendous - I've been getting a lot of what they call optical migraines and they're bad enough, but no headache luckily. Poor you.

logic · 01/05/2005 22:36

Thanks Spots!

Keep us informed, fisil!
