Phoenix, just to add to your list, I'd recommend lipsil/some sort of lip stuff!! I found this so useful.

Phoenix · 05/06/2009 20:31

Hi London11

Yes i remembered about lip balm and its in my bag

OP posts:
Beccabump · 05/06/2009 21:23

I'd rather have my own huge bath towels

soozze · 05/06/2009 23:37

Queenfee glad you?re okay after the fall. Can you ask to see a different consultant? Sounds like you have reason to ask if three(!) midwives disagreed with this one.

Plot2 hope your scan went well. After reading your post I?ve also booked a pedicure for next week

Hospital bags I forgot food/snacks last time and by the time I was up in the ward it was 11pm and I was starving! I think I?ll borrow your list too Phoenix towels are a good idea. At antenatal they mentioned taking your own pillow for the same reasons. Maybe flip flops if too hot for slippers? I really do plan to do my hospital bag tomorrow? well at least start it!

Misspaella · 06/06/2009 07:54

Morning
Queenfee hope are you are ok from your fall!

Stuff for bags
I also take with me antibacterial wipes to wipe down shower/loo if you are sharing with others in the postnatel ward. A bit neurotic, I know, but I found them handy.

Paper knickers are also good. I wore them post birth and would just bin them after use.

And definitely towels. I don't even think they had spare adult towels for us where I gave birth the last 2 times.

Is anyone else sad the sun is gone?

scully · 06/06/2009 12:27

Hi everyone Wow Christiana, less than 2wks, that makes it all seem real Hope baby turns for you, although a c/s isn't the end of the world.
Hope you're ok after your fall Queenfee.
I started packing my bag this morning, done about half of it, mostly baby things at this stage, as most of things for me I'm still wearing so can't pack them yet
Cleared out dd2's room today and put the cot up and in there, and ordered the moses basket and cot mattresses so feeling more organised My back isn't happy with all the things I've been doing today, hopefully will be ok for tomorrow as we want to take the dd's here dd2 will love seeing Dora and best of all it's free

dannyg · 06/06/2009 14:06

Afternoon all hope everyone is enjoying the weekend so far, this month seems to be be a real rollercoaster for some so far .
Saw midwife yesterday who thinks baby is still breech haved to go back 19th of june so she can check again, if no change then will be refered for scan and possible c section . Sieatica really playing up today too. oh get this last night i took 3 bags of decent things to local charity shop only to then see a pikey turn up in a van a take the lot!! that is sooo not right!!!. x x

Mij · 06/06/2009 16:09

Very behind, but quickly

queenfee glad you bounced well down the stairs ;-) seriously, hope it didn't give you too much of a scare
bags well didn't get a chance to pack much cos DP had to do it while I was in labour and then went back for stuff we'd forgotten afterwards, but what I wouldn't have done without:
Tea tree oil and salt (to put in the bath even if you don't have stitches, can be healing/soothing)
Your own pillow/towels (don't underestimate how shite NHS ones can be, and how important something like a nice pillow is when you haven't slept for 36 hours...)
Cash for bedside phone/tv/whatever
Comfy clothes that aren't PJs
What I didn't need:
Any toiletries for the baby - didn't use them for months - still hardly use them on DD and she's nearly 3. Almost everything comes off with just warm water and cotton wool .

fat ankles blimey my feet blew up so much in the hot weather I could only get flip flops on. Much relieved to see they're not so bad this morning when I needed something vaguely waterproof on my feet!

midwives anyone else's just a little too laid back? I think it's something to do with this being my second and planning a home birth, but they're chilled to the point of disinterest, and dammit I want some attention!

Feeling stupidly proud of myself cos I shortened a curtain. Now have to do the matching one and make a new one from the left-overs. Parents were up during the week helping to put up curtain rails and blackout blinds for DD, which was brilliant, but has been so successful that her light is casting new shadows and she's properly, genuinely freaked out. I thought it was just bedtime prevarication at first, but no, she was really quite frightened. Part of me was sympathetic (I used to lie in terror thinking the 'faces' in the wallpaper pattern were going to come to life) and part of me was screaming 'oh bloody hell, it's not real and why NOW of all times to develop fears!'

ilikeyoursleeves · 06/06/2009 20:28

Hi all, argh my laptop is dying! I am currently on DH's but mine fell off the sofa the other day and now half the screen doesn't work! It would be £120 to fix it (at least) plus my battery needs to be replaced too so I think I will have to buy a new one ARGHHHHHH! So I might not be on for a wee while til I get one, going to have a peek at some tomorrow I think and take my good friend Mr Credit Card with me.

Better start thinking about packing my hospital bag too, that's me 33 weeks but I have a feeling I'll be early again with this one!

xxhunnyxx · 06/06/2009 21:21

Hi all. I've just spoken to my ex n now I'm a little upset n pissed off. Apparently I had his SIL in tears the other week cos I declined her pram. I could understand it if I was rude about it but my ex had already said that I had really set my heart on a pram but we said we might as well look at hers whilst we were there. I looked at it and said it was lovely but I have really fallen in love with the pram I have seen and I've had a deposit on it since I was 4 months pregnant and that if I hadn't have already ordered my pram I would have loved hers etc. She said she understood and left it at that.
The truth is that the pram was crap but I certainly didn't let her know I thought that. Maybe I'm just a really crap liar but I don't see how I could have been any more polite about it.
I really didn't mean to upset her and I'm upset that I have but I'm also a bit pissed off that ppl can be sooooooooo sensitive cos I know that I really didn't do or say anythin rude.

xxhunnyxx · 06/06/2009 21:48

BTW does anybody else keep gettin twinges really low down? It feels like I'm about to get my period n also feel sicky like I do just before my period starts. Not sure if baby is maybe working his way down and putting pressure on my cervix?

QueenFee · 06/06/2009 22:39

No I have that really low down crampy feeling. In fact I have started a thread about it as I hadn't had before.
Sorry about the pram thing but if it makes you feel any better my MIL didn't speak to me or DH for 3 years because I said I didn't feel welcome at her house. (I wasn't being unreasonable either I wasn't allowed to shower and was shouted at for being there...) Some people just take things to heart I wouldn't worry she will come round when she sees the baby, babies have a magic way of healing upsets like that.
On a brighter note, what gorgeous pram have you ordered? (I am totally love buying my pram each time it's such a treat!)

Thanks for all your nice comments everyone. I feel ok except for these twinges. Hoping that just means baby will come a week early

xxhunnyxx · 06/06/2009 22:52

Glad to hear I'm not the only one queenfee i dont think there's anythin wrong but didnt know whether i should go n pack my bag just in case?
I hope u r right about magical baby healing powers, that's why i kinda want baby to come sooner rather than later, hoping all the probs at the mo will be magically resolved once everyone lays their eyes on my gorgeous little boy. But maybe I'm just livin in a fantasy land.
I've ordered an Icandy Apple, I love it .

Gillyan · 07/06/2009 00:49

Hi all, this is GILLYAN's partner, she's asked me to inform you all that she ended up back in hospital on weds. She has been having contractions on and off since then and is currently having stronger ones(sat night!), so looks like we're on the final straight! So so excited! I will try and keep you all up to date if i can!
Speak soon!x

Phoenix · 07/06/2009 08:53

Oh wow, hope she's ok, thank you for letting us know

OP posts:
xxhunnyxx · 07/06/2009 09:20

Patchybob · 07/06/2009 09:48

OMG, just come over all goose pimply! Wow I can't believe the first baby! I hope that all is well and that the baby is ok (And you of course Gillyan!!) Looks like I will be checking mumsnet all day!!! xxx

dannyg · 07/06/2009 10:10

Wow hope all goes well Gillyan x x

scully · 07/06/2009 12:21

Wow, our first baby, good luck Gillyan

JLo2 · 07/06/2009 15:40

Lots of luck and virtual hugs Gillyan

This is making it all seem very real. How exciting and scarey all at once. My consultant suggested to me on Friday that he wouldn't want me to go very overdue, so it looks like in 3-4 weeks time I will definitely have my new baby, if not before I'm now 37 weeks so it could be any time I really must make a few notes on my birth plan and make a decision on a name...

Gillyan · 07/06/2009 15:45

Hellooooooo, sorry to disappoint but I came home this morning with baby still safely ticked inside my tum!

The contractions were coming evry 3 mins last night for over 4 hours and the doc came to examine me. My cervix was closed though and he said it was my body trying to go into labour but obviuosly without dilateing it wasn't established labour.

I had t=some co-codamol at midnight and managed to drop off to sleep for a bit at 2 am. They had faded again when I woke up. I went on the monitor and wasn't having them again so I finally got to come home!

If I feel a twinge I am supposed to go staright back in becuase the baby will still be premature now but I think I will wait longer mext time to see for certain, I am only 5 mins from the hospital.

have been instructed to do nothing at all and if they start again to try lying down and if they don't stop I'll go back in!

It has been quite good being in hopsital as I have had ample oppurtunity to speak to lots of MW's and DOCS and I have FINALLY!!!!!!!!!decided on their advice to have the section, tquite a few of them think that my tear last time sounds like it was just becuase of the way my tussue is and they said even if I have a smaller baby i.e. she comes early it won;'t make much differnece. The deciding factors for them was when they learned DD was 7.5 and that I began tearing before her head crowned etc.

So thats it, I am defo having the section! The midwives have said they can tell I will be the sort of person who will be home in 2 days and I'll be up and about ASAP, they pointed out if I tear again it would be much longer recovery!

Babies head still not engaged but I get VERY twingy if I walk even a short distance so I have to do nothing! Otherwise I am going to end up in and out of hopsital stopping and starting!

Hope you are all well, I really will try to read up everything Ihave missed but I can't sit at the comp too long and I can't read MN properly on my phone.

xxxx

Gillyan · 07/06/2009 15:47

Oh I forgot, when i went in Wed they picked up a UTI which could of set the contractions off again even though I was on medication to supress them. I am now not on them anymore and am just on anti-biotics, I also then develeoped laryngitis and lost my voice totally and have an upper respiritory virus so coughing A LOT!

I am a total train wreck!

Patchybob · 07/06/2009 17:10

Oh Gillyan.. What a nightmare for you. Put your feet up and take their advice to do nothing. Lots of hugs to you xxx
