Febes · 17/04/2009 19:13

DD was whipped away to the other side of the room as soon as she was born to clear her of the meconium. I was a bit out of it and asked DH did he cut the cord yet? He was in a daze as there were 4 or 5 people rushing around the room working on DD the MW had cut the cord as they were worried about her. I kept sayig oh she's beautiful in my G & A high even though I couldn't see her. I turned around to lie on the bed and finally got her a few minutes after birth. It was lovely. I hope this LO will be delivered straight on to me.

Gert2a · 17/04/2009 19:42

Tummum I'll give ebay a try for curtains, but must be patient, I seem to lose interest very quickly with ebay.

Running I like the look of the pink stripey material (never though of ikea), not sure if it'll go, so may have to go and look at it in real life next week.

It seems there's an awful lot of similarity in everyone's experiences with postnatal wards. My mantra for the next 12 days before my elcs will be:
Be assertive
Ask questions
Don't be afraid to go looking for food (picture me with bows and arrows in hospital camouflage )
Use the midwife calling buzzer whenever required.

Ok, am prepared!! Thanks ladies.

Gert just don't do what I did through a fog of sleep deprivation and drugs and keep pushing the call button in my sleep. The MW (unsurprisingly and not unreasonably) was not amused!

Well I felt really energised earlier when i finished work (hurray). I thought my nesting urge might have kicked in but it didn't last long lol- i'm back on the sofa as usual! 4 weeks to go til my elcs (probably).

Momino · 17/04/2009 21:07

grumpy, happy bday tomorrow to your DD1.

congrats to all who finished work today, hurrah! you can relax now, don't entertain the nesting idea.

wow to all the postnatal ward stories... too many to comment. it does make me realise that it is assertiveness that will help if I find I'm not happy with anything. I will also solicit DH's help.

have been so fed up today, just being so impatient with DD's and dog. our house is so un-child friendly that I'm anxious all the time and yelling at the children. i feel like I'm the grumpiest mummy ever and hate our house as every single room is a mess. at least the skirting boards are clean .

well on to our takeaway. don't have a kitchen/dining room for at least a few days - no cooker. possibly see you all on here later .

MatthewAndBumpsMummy · 17/04/2009 21:08

hi all

just wanted to wish looby lots of luck and best wishes for your induction 2moro. will be thinking of you and cant wait to hear the good news.

hope jeal, belgian and llareggub are doing ok now. been thinking of you all

i see theres been lots of talk about time spent in hospital after birth and im sorry to say my experience wasnt good either! i was induced and apart from not really explained things the actually birth part was ok it was after that was horrible. i had an epidural so was unable to move until late afternoon when ds was born at 7.30am. once i was put on post-natal ward in a room with 4 others i was just completley left, no one came to see if we were ok until late afternoon, by them my mum had been and helped me shower and get cleaned up coz i was still they same as she left me that monring i was only 18 at the time and i didnt really talk up or make a fuss which i prob should have, to scared i spose. anyway once the midwives did finally remember i was there they would just ocationally come in grab my boob to try and get ds to latch as he hadnt yet and when he wouldnt they would just leave and come back a few hours later and do the samw never really speaking about it to me apart from the one who just looked in on us one time and said oh that baby shouldnt have a dummy if your trying to bf then walked away! any after one night spend there i was moved to a local birthing center as they wouldnt let me home as ds still hadnt fed yet, it was lovely there the mw got ds latched on straight away coz she spend more than 5 mins trying and i was allowed home after one night there which i was so glad to get home and away from staff who just didnt have the time for us. i am really hoping to be in and out of hospital the same day this time dont wanna stay there i minute longer than i have to! plus i wanna get home to ds.

lovely birth story spangle and big well done with the bf

SesIsCountingdowntheweeks · 17/04/2009 21:13

Jennster - LOL at the bean bags!!!

Wonder how Looby, llareggub, belgian and jael are all now... thanks Mr J for letting us know how jael is - she must be bored silly, but is in the right place too.

I'm trying to eat chillies with nearly everything! And on Rasp Leaf tablets, and trying to be as active as possible!! But now just total physical meltdown!

re postnatal ward experience. When I had ds 6 years ago he was delivered by vacuum and then was a 'grunty' baby which ended up with him being given to me to see if skin-2-skin would help his breathing! I'll never forget the sheer 'I dont know what to do' feeling when they handed him to me! But s-2-s didn't help and he was taken to SCBU. I did get to see him (if by that they mean I was taken to SCBU and saw a blob in a blanket in a incubator!) on my way back to the pn ward. I had asked for and was promised a side room, cos I really couldn't bear to be in a room with other mums and their babies, but landed in a 6 bed room ... with other mums and their new babies. The curtains were pulled around me (this would've been around 10/11pm) and I was left. I vaguely remember being checked on overnight (pethidine fuzziness!) and clearly rememeber wakening inthe morning with the curtains stil around me, and I was lying on one of those horrid incontinence sheets aware of warm sticky blood. I buzzed and noone came for about an hour. Eventually I was allowed up for a shower, but opted for a bath as I was very shakey. I did was wheeled to see ds in Scbu and later on tried to bf him as much as I possibly could. Then the wheel chair use was taken from me and I killed myself going up and down the corridor to see him. But the pn staff thought I was coping very well and because of ward closures over the weekend they transfered me to the day procedure ward where I ended up with a UTI and high temp. I was very ill. I ended up in hosp for 8 days with ds in SCBU for 7. THe staff were as good as they could be tbh.

Reggiee · 17/04/2009 22:02

Just a quick one to wish Looby all the best for tomorrow - can't wait to hear all about it .

Momino · 17/04/2009 22:11

looby, if you're around, all best wishes! we'll be awaiting your good news.

LoobyLou36 · 17/04/2009 22:33

thanks for all the good wishes ladies.

Will test chocbunnies with any news

Night x

LoobyLou36 · 17/04/2009 22:34

sorry meant text

pulapula · 17/04/2009 22:49

Divedaisy- your pn experience sounded really bad . I remember buzzing and no-one coming and feeling bad about buzzing again as they were obviously just really busy.

DS was a grunty baby too - they said it was often the case with cs babies as they have a lot of mucous due to not being pushed/quashed through the birth canal. On one occassion, DS went blue and the MW just happened to be holding him, and blew on his face which stimulated his breathing. She was really shaken up by it (she was only a student or newly qualified) - i don't like to think what would have happened if i had been on my own. I will definitely be watching for this happening again this time round, and ready to act/get help.

pulapula · 17/04/2009 22:50

Oh, I only came on to say good luck to looby and ended up talking about me again. Sorry ladies.

loobylou- if you do log on again, hope everything goes well tomorrow and we will look forward to hearing the news from chocbunnies. So excited for you.

Tummum · 17/04/2009 23:10

Looby you've probably gone to bed but wanted to let you know I am thinking of you and I hope everything goes really well for you tomorrow.

Night everyone.

daizydoo · 18/04/2009 07:41

Oh my goodness -hope we're not scaring the 1st timers with our post natal experiences! Can I just add that make sure you are given your call bell. I couldn't get out of bed to get ds and my call bell wasn't within my reach so I had to try and perform some acrobatics to get it!!

Spangle please put in a complaint to your local hospital about being able to hear the handovers. It really is a gross breach of patient confidentiality and not acceptable.

Had a lovely day catching up with my friend, ds is doing his best to try and wake her up at the moment

Look forward to hearing news from Looby...

chocolatebunnies · 18/04/2009 08:48

Morning everyone,

Am in a grump today, damn DP's!

Am v.excited for Looby and looking forward to getting the news, will of course put it on here as soon as I hear anything! Not even leaving the house today so I can get on here!lol!

Cant believe its getting closer and closer to the stage where we're all going to be popping left, right and center!

I was naughty and didnt pack my bag last night, I completly forgot until I logged on here 5 mins ago! Please please please someone badger me to do it later on!

Whats everyone got planned for this weekend? Nothing here, boring boring boring!

Febes · 18/04/2009 09:11

I have 5 loads of washing today to do today. The sun is trying to shine. I hope it holds out!!!

LoobyLou36 · 18/04/2009 09:15

Morning ladies.

No bed available this morning

Going in at 2 when they send some home. So just slobbing around relaxing in my dressing gown, trying not to worry

LoobyLou36 · 18/04/2009 09:16

DH gone to B&Q so might put my BF dvd on.

Tummum · 18/04/2009 09:22

Oh Looby, what a pain. Did you get any sleep last night? Try to relax and do something pampering (bath, DVD etc etc).

Nothing apart from boredom-ville here too, chocolate. DH offered to get up with DC (a miracle!) but then switched TV in for them, gave them a biscuit each and then returned to bed gee thanks for the help ! He is now in bed snoring !!

God I hate Raspberry Leaf Tea. It's foul ! My hypnotherapy friend thought I might go into labour yesterday, but no, still very much here ! DH offered the most effective labour inducing, but with SPD really really didn't fancy it

OP posts:
emmabemmasmom · 18/04/2009 09:30

Morning ladies!

Trying to catch up a bit

I won't even go into my last labour experience or the after experience as it is not a good one either. When I was talking to the MW about a HB this time she asked about last time. I told her details and she was all 'Oh they would not have done that!'...umm were you there??? But anyway, hoping and praying it will be different this time around. However, in the end, I had a healthy beautiful baby girl so it was all worth it. Just wish I had better memories of the birth experience!

Looby Hope it goes well and you get to go in today! Keep us posted if you can!

I got my new changing bag yesterday and I am inlove lol Going to be able to pack now which is good. Even though planning a HB would still like to have bags packed so I can just say 'It's in the bag!'

Also, got the new pram yesterday too...big day! Already had it out for a spin with DD (she seems to not be bothered in the slightest!)

Well better get some house work done. I have not got my 'nesting' instinct as I cannot be bothered, however I figured I should do a good spring clean and hopefully it will be the last one I do before baby is born!

Hope everyone has a great day!
