Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LoobyLou36 · 18/04/2009 09:30

not much sleep no

had anice long shower, shaved legs, painted toenails - shattered now
think lady garden is not too scary - but I doubt I'll care later

LoobyLou36 · 18/04/2009 09:32

just watched the first bit of dvd and cried my eyes out

am an emotional wreck today - nearly started crying when Irang the labour ward earlier

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 18/04/2009 09:47

Looby but here's hoping for later on. If it's any consolation, I went in for IOL with DD2 in the morning, she was born at 6am the next morning, so you may be lessening the time you spend laying around in hospital being bored.

I misread your post as DH having gone to a BBQ, I thought "what a selfish git"!!!

Tummum I took DH up on his labour-inducement exercise today - SPD be damned. I want this baby out by 40 weeks. We are having a curry tonight as well. May buy some raspberry leaf crap today too, I will try anything so pineapple will be purchased.

FiKelly · 18/04/2009 09:52

looby sorry you didn't get much sleep.. the anticipation and excitement of today would have done the same to me too. good on you for being able to reach your toe nails! i'm finding it hard enough to trim them let alone paint them

my new changing bag is in at our local baby shop.. was about to get ds ready and head out.. but it's clouded over and looks murkey. think i'll nip out solo and leave ds with dh..

Blottedcopybook · 18/04/2009 10:01

Looby Awww honey, it'll be nerves I bet. I didn't sleep the night before I went in to be induced for the first time either.

Grumpy I'm assured that evening primrose oil capsules used as a pessary can also have an effect but a) they're messy and b) you want half a dozen or so up there at a time!

LoobyLou36 · 18/04/2009 10:01

grumpy if he'd gone to a BBQ he's be a dead man

He did suggest meeting up with DSD and MIL b4 we go into hospital tho I said he could but I don't want to see anyone apart from him and just want to relax b4 going into hospital

LoobyLou36 · 18/04/2009 10:02

evening primrose oil pessary - that does sound messy, lol

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 18/04/2009 10:16

God I think I would actually prefer sex to half a dozen primrose oil pessaries!!!!!!!!!

I had a image Looby of your DH stood eating burgers & drinking beer at 10am...........

DD1 is very, very pleased with her new bike wot she got for her birthday, I am feeling as she wanted a laptop but I said no. She actually prefers her bike. And, of course, a bike is better for her.

FiKelly · 18/04/2009 10:19

looby.. if i don't make it back in time.. all the best for this afternoon and look forward to hearing all about your new arrival when you get home. xoxox fi

LoobyLou36 · 18/04/2009 10:24

thanks fikelly

LoobyLou36 · 18/04/2009 10:42

going to go and get dressed now and sort myself out - might listen to my hypnobirthing cd one more time.

bye for now

will let you know how I get on....

ladyhelenatealltheeggs · 18/04/2009 11:01

looby oh the anticipation! I do hope you manage to get in this afternoon. The waiting must be a killer, but am sure you will get your LO in your arms v v soon.

Having had since Wednesday thinking something could happen, as the MW said baby was engaged and the feeling was that it could literally drop out any sec, I think its moved again as the heavy feeling has alleviated. Think I will try to be active this afternoon as DS has a party to go to at new soft play centre...which also happens to be next door to a new Mamas and Papas store. Will I be able to resist????

Have the IL's here this morning. They have gone to the park (thank god) with DH and DS whilst I sort lunch. The FIL and DH are going to build the cot. Its a fairly straightforward procedure but FIL borders on having OCD that I think it could well take him 3 days. But he does like having jobs to do and this was the only thing I could think off.

Better go and check on my butternut squash soup.....

Blottedcopybook · 18/04/2009 11:12

I just weighed myself.

I won't be doing that again in a hurry.

MsG · 18/04/2009 11:20

Blottedcopybook, that made me chuckle! I know what you mean!! A few people have asked me if I've weighed myself lately (what's it to them?!) and I just go, "Hm, no, not for a while" because I'm not telling anyone!!

Gert2a · 18/04/2009 11:22

Morning all,

Looby, much love to you, imagine it's akin to being like a cat on a hot tin roof waiting around to go in (well that would be me anyway!). Looking forward to hearing lovely news about your lo when you're home.

Have tired self out by hoovering under our bed (big job), but at least it's done now. And have repacked hospital bag for 3rd time - packed according to cs and longer hospital stay needs now!

One more trip today to hospital for final foetal monitoring, hopefully won't be going to hospital again til 29th for cs. Yeah! 11 days and counting.

I wonder how Belgian is getting on?

Due to the high probability of the elcs, my mum is going to give herself a heart attack, she usually needs something to worry about and during her worrying always sets herself up to think the worst case scenario (which obviously in this instance is quite a severe scenario). Any suggestions on wise words to calm her down? I'm having enough trouble coaching myself to remain calm, so am finding it difficult to offer my mum that support too. Unfortunately it'll be me supporting her through it, rather than the other way round.

aquababe · 18/04/2009 12:14

Not been round in a while, but figured you ladies might have found the answer to this already.

Apologies for TMI

My consultant prescribed sex as a good way to poke the cervix and ripen it, but what are the best positions for this? My husband and I (well I) just can't manage the suggested bottom in the air method the consultant advised. I get too dizzy.
I'm not sure the easier positions are getting any poking done, nor getting any sperm where it needs to go to kick start anything.
It's hard enough not ending up in a fit of giggles over the beached whale impressions I'm doing.

Any advice very gratefully received!

Looby Goodluck hope all goes well!
MsG I've had a few people say that to me. I really don't know the batteries went in our scales and I took it as a sign.

Gert2a My mum is also in ultra panic mode worrying about every small detail (and she wonders why I don't want her anywhere near the hospital.) Hopefully you can block her out and just focus on you.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 18/04/2009 13:29

aquababe

I can't really manage more than lying on my side. Think elephant seal basking on beach. 'Poke the cervix' is a choice phrase (I am giggling here..........). I don't think I could manage bum in the air.

Blotted - I am still amazed that I haven't put on tonnes of weight (and I am not trying to be El Smuggo here, as I was a bit of a porker to start off with) - I feel like I've done nothing but eat, and when I say eat I mean cheese and chocolate and stuff. I used to like a few glasses of wine though, so wonder if I've just replaced wine calories with foodular calories. I am currently still chomping my way through the remains of yesterday's party buffet and the 9,000,000,000 cakes, cornflake crispy cakes, sausage rolls, sausages etc that I lovingly made. This is after a lunch of quiche, chips and salad.

The girls are enjoying it though, as I can't really tell them they've had too many cakes when I've been almost pouching food like a hamster.

emmabemmasmom · 18/04/2009 13:38

aquababe I hope I will not be to after posting this but here is my advice
First off I think any sex would prove effective as the goal is to get sperm to the cervix and at the speed it comes out, it would get there. Actual poking of the cervix would probably be painful to say the least...
However, some positions you requested:
The best is from behind. You don't need to be in yoga downward facing dog and get dizzy though! Try on all fours...lean down to your elbows or even chest down on the bed if you can. You can hug a pillow if it makes it more comfortable.
Another would be on your back. Put a pillow under your bum to help with pressure on your back and pull your knees back as far as you can. He would be on his knees and idealy pushing your knees back. If that hurts then just take it from there.
Lastly, but probably least effective I would say you on top facing away. This gives your bump a place to be between his legs and you can control the depth if you feel pain. Also causes less giggles as you don't feel as self conscious in this position!

All in all, just have fun and enjoy what you can get up to as you will be out of action for a few weeks or even months soon! Go get yours! lol

Oh my hope that helps! lol

minimenace · 18/04/2009 13:47

Jennster PML at the beanbags .... quality.

after much searching through old threads I found all the info on the secret FB group and would like to join so have sent an email to you Llare (if you are around) fab idea to share new arrival pics there.
hope thats okay with everyone else.

My VBAC HB CD's arrived yesterday, I listened to the first one last night and found it very relaxing. I'm sure it helped clear my mind for sleep.

DH is loading disk 2 onto his ipod for hospital use. I'm going to try and listen to that a couple of times before.

Looby hope all goes better this afternoon. not sure if you meant you are being sent home when you go in at 2 so not sure you will see this but sending good vibes your way.

Momino · 18/04/2009 14:06

hi all.
looby is probably gone by now... hope she's ok. i know I didn't sleep much the day before i was induced with DD1.

having a really lazy day and haven't done much but get anxious about the mess happening with dd2 eating fromage frais out of the pot with her fist and dropping big blobs on the floor where it's seeped through the boards. how am i going to clean that?

half-read an article in sat times about how having children actually doesn't make you happier . too late now , should stop reading the papers anyway.

dd2 is asleep, DH reading paper (hopefully not the article i've just mentioned), dd1 having quiet time next to me (ok, watching telly). so, i'm going to go upstairs to pack and possibly listen to my hypno cd. is that what everyone else is doing?

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 18/04/2009 14:11

momino Don't worry about the fromage frais - you have a dog .

I am waiting for DH to come home from work (I'll be home by 1, no I promise this time ) so we can rush out and spend DD1's birthday money and vouchers. We've already been to Tang Soo Do this morning and have dancing tomorrow morning.

Oh and we're still eating pink-iced cakes covered in marshmallows. I feel sick.

Tummum · 18/04/2009 15:42

I am knackered having finished cleaning under the sofa ('twas grim....) and unloaded the dishwasher. I am so looking fwd to being able to do normal stuff again without feeling zonked. Have also invited a couple over for dinner tonight - what was I thinking?!?! But with DD2 they were over for dinner the night I went into Labour so maybe that will happen again?

Thinking of Looby hope she is OK. I am slightly jealous because I want to meet my LO now too.

Emmabsmom I might take my lead from Grumpy and have a go at some male induction techniques. I want this baby out and am getting desperate now (but not desperate for oral measures, IYKWIM )

I am on tinternet whilst DD2 watches Lilo & Stich (bad mother) and DH has taken DD1 to the bike shop to get a new helmet for her. I fully expect him to return with a new mountain bike as he has a bit of a record on buying new bikes

OP posts:
Blottedcopybook · 18/04/2009 16:46

Grumpy I started off just under 13stone and I'm now 14stone bang on the button. Ugh! I have a wedding to go to at the end of July, I want to look gorgeous and beautiful and not be a bit fat lump! I must replace my Ben & Jerry's intake with some salad. Ugh.

I've just woke up from a 2 hour long nap, the DCs are playing nicely in the living room and DH is finishing my fence off in the garden so I can throw the DCs out to play safely. I suppose I really should do my part and sort the mountain of laundry out!

pulapula · 18/04/2009 17:27

Blotted - I started at 10st4 and am now 13st4 but my record gain was 4st with DD (9st up to 13st).

It's been really sunny here and i've been out and about - tescos, then john lewis for DDs summer shoes, then hanging out washing for the first time this year, then making shepherds pie for tea (which the DCs refused to eat ) so i am having a well-earned sit down before I try and get the DCs to eat their tea again.

Shame that Looby's induction was delayed but hope she has a bed now and things are happening.

As for ahem positions we used the bum in air position last night. I did try to raise myself up on all fours, but my arms were too weak to take my weight lol. DH is nervous about doing more in future as he doesn't want things to kick off before my elcs. I said it depends who's doing my op- if its the consultant i had last time, then i'd rather LO didn't come early as i want him to do it, but if its some junior doctor, then i don't mind taking my chances!
