Due May '09: Holy Cow - that's next week!!

frazzledoldbag · 21/04/2009 15:22

Ha ha ha at alapala thread title - that's funny!
Can't believe we're almost on another new thread already. Like that title though. Gets my vote!

chocolatebunnies · 21/04/2009 15:23

Holy cow I get married next week!!!

Belgianchocolates · 21/04/2009 15:55

tongue tie I think it really depends on how pro-active your unit is in terms of bf. Our unit and the unit I trained (and where I'm booked) were really good. Our bf mw (who's brilliant and who Detsy has met) has actually done the training to snip the tongue tie herself and will do it there and then when it's picked up. Where I trained we had a consultant who we could contact 24/7 and who would pop up and do it. It really only takes a minute and saves so much trouble for both mum and baby in the end. But I do know that in some units they wont do it or you need to wait for ever.

I've just got back from Bravissimo. It was a bit of an anti-climax. I phoned in the morning and they said I didn't need an appointment on weekdays. So I turned up at 2 and it was heaving. I couldn't wait an hour, because I had to be back home by 15.45 and it's a good 30min drive. So they suggested I'd just try a bra on in my current size and they'd see how that fitted and give me one in the right size for b/f. Turns out my local M&S was spot on with their size. They didn't have much in terms of nice bras and so I've come home with the biggest and most boring bra I've ever owned in my life . I dread the time when my milk will come in, I really really really do.

Belgianchocolates · 21/04/2009 15:59

Oh and re: ironing: I enjoy it because it's relaxing and sort of hypnotising. It's also the only housework I do at the mo (except for dishes and preparing food of course), so I really aren't as good as it sounds!

Maybe the new thread title should be raspberry leaf tea/bedroom action themed. You know half of us are busy trying to get things going.

May 09-Weddings,Inductions,Births & C-Sections - Its all going on this month!

What is a tongue tie? I've never heard of it??

Belgianchocolates · 21/04/2009 16:23

chocbunnies A tongue tie is when there's a little membrane attached to the tongue and the bottom of the mouth. This stops the tongue from being able to move much, e.g. people with a bad tongue tie can't stick their tongue out. It interferes with b/f because babies need to use their tongue to milk the breast and with a tongue tie they can't extend their tongue properly and so end up nipple sucking, no matter how well mum positions the baby. In the old days mws used to keep a long nail and cut the tie routinely with the nail. Nowadays because most people bottle feed it's something most people seem to have forgotten about.

chocolatebunnies · 21/04/2009 16:30

I had never heard or seen that before belgian thanks, is it common? do they numb it or anything before they cut it? does it hurt? Sorry for all the qustions!

llareggub · 21/04/2009 16:36

What a shame about Bravissimo, Belgian. I've always had really good experiences there and swear by them. Maybe you should pop over to Leamington and try the store there? A bit further but might be worth it.

Tummum · 21/04/2009 16:53

Afternoon ladies. Feeling hormonal and very 'cry-y' today. Bought some sandals for DD1 while she was at school and they don't fit, so she is upset she doesn't have sandals = Tummum blubbing. How stupid?! Then DH bit blunt with me after I called him at work to ask if he wanted anything shopping (he was in a meeting so understandable) = more tears. Put it down to hormones

Llare what is that sikh temple all about... and right next to Sainsburys too ! Strange location if you ask me

Belgian I am off to Milton Keynes Bravissimo tomorrow so will let you know what the service is like there (although it's prob way too far for you to travel.)

Am liking references to self-induction techniques for new thread name.

Am off to cry some more about something pointless . At least DH is home tonight so will cook me dinner. Yeah right

I'm sure the service would have been good if it hadn't been so busy. They did say it was unusual. The put it down to people coming now that the dcs are back at school. I'll try them again after lo is born and my boobs have settled a bit, but book an appointment, whether it's a weekday or not!

llareggub · 21/04/2009 17:12

Tummum, there has even been a thread on mumsnet about it! The local Sikh community raised £7 million to build it. It is on, or near, the location of their previous temple so I guess it works for them. It is pretty amazing, isn't it? I have to pinch myself when I drive over to Sainsburys to remind myself where I am! I hope you had a nice day in my neck of the woods.

sausagenmash · 21/04/2009 17:50

Hello - are we still on this thread?

Wonder how Looby is getting on?

Detsy - I don't live too far away from Bromley!!

Detsy & Frazz - phew - thought it was only me that is sans action at the mo - and has been for a while.

Btw - whoever said ages ago to try Aveeno for dry skin - thankyou thankyou thankyou! My skin has been transformed! Amazing!!

Gert - can I be 2nd in line for the raspberry leaf tablets if they aren't suitable for choc?

Am pooped. Went to friends for lunch (norf side of 'the river') - took me 2 hours to get home because of typical usual Blackwall tunnel traffic, and LO was being all squirmy. Practically fell out of the car with relief when I got home! Am off to loaf on the sofa...

Hi Sausage - I suggested Aveeno for dry skin as my DS has ezema - actually his hands have been quite dry lately so good reminder to me to get some more as his other stuff is not working. Glad its given you some relief!

Belgianchocolates · 21/04/2009 18:29

sausage I remember the Aveeno discussion. I remember saying how brilliant it is too.

dandy I must say I never think twice when shops ask for my post code, but I suppose you're right, it's none of their business! There's another place where they always ask, but can't remember where. I think it might be a DIY store.

It has also reminded me that I'd better get myself off to Bravissimo tomorrow to get fitted. I do still wear my nursing bras sometimes but I know that I am smaller in the bust now so could do with new ones. If the sweep works on Thursday tomorrow could be my last chance!

rosielady · 21/04/2009 19:18

Dandy Fi - which NCT bra did you get? is a nursing one?

I've been wearing my underwired mostly, as I need the support - but haven't got any bigger really, but would like t get some new nursing ones, as the ones I had from before are a bit grubby now.
