Thank you for all your replies!

I think I will do start mat leave at least a week before. I am a tired person at the best of times.

Hope everyone is ok today xx

Icantbelieveitsnotbitter · 30/04/2009 09:16

Oh Sammysam - will you please stay away from all these infectious people !! I think Cpox is another one that can take up to 2 weeks to show and you're infectious before the symptoms.

Getting loads of sleep at the moment but it's so broken by waking all night that I still feel exhausted come the morning. Doesn't help that my cat insists on sleeping right up against me and overheats me !

Scan tomorrow AM - but heartbeat still sounds good so I'm not too worried.

Raining here today - ho hum must be getting ready for bank holiday weekend !

HumphreysCorner · 30/04/2009 10:24

Morning ladies, you are so busy it is hard to keep up.

Great news on your scan lal.

Cazza-crikey, 4 days is pushing it and my DD2 was 4 days early. I always left 4 weeks before the due date.

Kleine-try not to worry as sometimes I can't feel him move and my bump shrinks so I think he goes hiding somewhere. (Probably when I am arguing with DH). Have a cold drink or icecream as that guarantees a kick.

MeHimCatBlob-there is a nursery near us that had small babies when I used to drop DD1 off and I worked with someone whose wife (at the time-he had one baby to his wife and another to his mistress at the same time. One boy and one girl) worked until the birth then returned to work after 2 weeks. I think that was the minimum time she had to take before returning. So she will have put her DS in a nursery at 2 weeks old. Ring round a few.

squidgey-how come you don't get a 20 week scan, I thought you had to have one to check everything is as it should be.

ICBINB-hope your scan goes well tomorrow. Can't wait for mine on the 13th May so I can get some more pics.

sammysam-sorry you feel so crap. Re CP, you are only contagious before the spots appear so suspect you will be OK. It has been a week so think you would know by now.

I bought a black skirt with an elastic waist from BHS yesterday, £7 in the sale. Hope this will last me a bit without looking silly until I can find a proper mat skirt. Am miffed that La Redoute don't refund the postage as well. It has cost me £3.99 for nothing. It has put me off ordering online as you can't try before you buy.

My boobs are itching but underneath as they have swelled somewhat and the air can't get underneath. My mum has rather large boobs and she suffers with this but we both use Sudocream and swear by it. I use it on every skin ailment going.

Must put some washing in then collect DD2 from nursery.

Big wave!

Ds is driving me bloody insane today.
I think because i'm ill. And he woke up in the middle of the night so had a broken nights sleep. He is insisting on climbing on everything, tables chairs windows, desks! This morning he feel face first into the bath whilst i was filling it for him. luckily he was right by me an wasn't very deep yet so mostly got a face full of bubbles!
He's decided to disregard the word 'no' any ideas?? please ..... before i lose the plot!

I'm so stressed phoned MIL to see if she could take him off my hands, but she's working untill 4pm. God i need a break from him. feel too ill to go to our group this morning.

HC- returning 2 weeks after birth poor woman. My stitches had only just healed by then and i was still bleeding and generally felt like crap. How do you get time to bond with the baby in that time? Most the nurseries arround here only take babies at 4 months but then we are in Poole so not that many high flying jobs like in the City that require mum's to go back so early. Makes me feel very lucky to have had so much time off with ds, didn't realise how common it was for women to go back quite so early, but completely understand if they have worked so hard for their career, or need the income.

Sammysam you poor thing! Chicken pox now! i really hope you are all clear. Did you have it as a child? i didn't so dread catching it as an adult.

have a good day all.

Thanks for the reassurance. I have felt baby move a bit this morning. After being up worrying from 2.30 till 4.30 this morning DS woke up crying at 5.15. Argh! Took him into bed with me and amazingly, given that it was already broad daylight he did actually fall asleep for another few hours.

Started a pregnancy yoga class last night. I did one last time round and was scared not to do it again in case it had contributed hugely to the pretty smooth labour I had. It's run by a midwife, which is a useful contact to have given that I won't see another one until 27 weeks. It's also nice to chat to other pregnant women.

princessmel · 30/04/2009 10:58

Hi all,

I am feeling a bit of all of you feeling your babies kicking! I am not feeling movements yet. I really want to feel it!!

I am in pain at the moment. I have really hurt my coccyx and it is sooooooo painful! The doctor said there is nothing they can do. I can take paracetamol and thats it. It will hurt for up to 4 weeks.

Sammysam In my experience spots usually appear 2 weeks (almost to the day) after you see the infected child. You are infectious a few days before the spots come out and untill they are scabbed over. So if you saw your friends a few days before the spots appeared you could catch it. Have you had it before?

I am going to buy a maternity denim skirt I saw in H and M. It's short and cute and is like one I'd wear when I'm not pregnant!

Off to collect dd and her friend from nursery soon, then take them to a party. Then drop the friends back at her grans, then colect ds and 2 others and drop them home! THEN take ds and dd to a friends for tea. Another busy day for me!!!

15 weeks today

HumphreysCorner · 30/04/2009 11:11

LittleMissBliss-sorry things are rough today and shame your MIL is not available. It is not good when they don't understand the word no. Have you tried bribery with choc or crisps (bad I know but when you are desperate). We live in a very small town so why this lady went back after 2 weeks I will never know. I think she was either worried someone might do her job better or she just wasn't very maternal. I took a year off with both DD's then couldn't bear to return after DD2 so still on a career break.

princessmel-that bone is so painful isn't it? Sympathies for you. Lucky you having an H&M. They are online but don't offer a UK service yet.

I have just enjoyed reading the posts but have still no memory to remember what I wanted to say in reply

LMB-how old is ds? Really the only thing that works is saying no and moving them over and over again til they get the picture (prob not what you feel like doing atm!) or resorting to getting out the house-dd gets like that when she is bored! We missed our group this morning cos I feel so crap so am going to take her to the pet shop later that should keep her happy!

I'm plotting dd's birthday pressies and getting very excited-her birthday completely overshaddows mine now-even I forget about mine !!!! Hers is 2 days after mine!

Re chicken pox-I don't know how i'm managing all this infectious contact makes me want to hybernate! I am a very weird case and have had CP 3 times as a child!!!! I know that that isn't supposed to happen-i must have a really crap immune system!! So I just hope that the 3rd time built my immunity up enough!!! I just read that it can take 7-21 days to show-so if we do go on holiday it could well be then Why are things not going at all smoothly at the moment must be my turn for something good to happen
2 wks to the day would be 2 days before we fly, plus dd spent the day with a little boy who spent the day before her spots came out with dd's friend on monday.....we'll be very lucky to escape it I fear
Does anyone know if I'm immune if it could still pass to the baby or is the baby safe?

Cazza-I NEEDED sleep in the day for a few wks before dd was born. I'd suggest 2 wks minimum before due date but really more as if baby arrives early you might end up with no time.....

Klein-that is great news! It must have been hiding!

ICBINB-have you got a doppler? How often do you use it? Maybe.....oh I don't know that I trust myself....

HappyTangerine · 30/04/2009 11:45

I haven't been on for a while as have been on a break to Edinburgh - had fab time, despite the whole city being a building site!

Trying to catch up with thread - congrats on all the scan news.

Sammysam - sorry you are feeling so rough.

You're all feeling the baby move so much more than me- have only felt a few flutters but haven't really been concerned. I'm 18+ weeks and this is my first - should I be worried?

Was flattered and suprised to be offered a job yesterday, from one of my old customers. I can work pt or ft until the baby is born and then they'd contact me a year after to see if I wanted to come back. So suprised and q tempted but husband is not keen so we'll see. At the moment, I think I'm heading towards taking some extra swimming courses with a view to running antenatal swim and parent and baby swim classes.

Love to all, good luck with any scans/appointments x

idreamofbeanie · 30/04/2009 13:50

Hi all,

I haven't really felt the baby move yet either and I am 18+4 with my first. I'm thinking it's probably a mix of all the padding and me not really knowing what it feels like. The baby has probably been moving loads and I just think I'm hungry or a bit windy . So looking forward to my 20 week scan now - just 11 days to go. I have signed up for a pregnancy yoga class but they don't have any places yet.

Sammysam - sorry you have more worries. You have to stay away from all these infectious people.

LMB - no advice I'm afraid but I hope ds has settled down for a long nap and you are getting some peace.

PM - that sounds horrible! How did you injure yourself?

MHCB - hope DH woke up with a horrible hangover !

Sorry to everyone I've forgotten - I just can't keep up with this thread.

JamesDavidsMum · 30/04/2009 17:28

Sammysam - I had CP 3 times when I was a kid too - 8% of the population get it more than once. You should definately be immune, but can understand your wariness.

I am jealous of everybody's scans - I'm having real issues sorting out my Antenatal care - nobody seems to want to answer their phones or help me out. Looking forward to finally having a scan and finding out if my prediction of sex is correct.

I didn't have a 12 week scan with DS and he was fine so not having that scan hasn't worried me - it's more the emotional preparation of who is living in my stomach especially now I'm getting belted most days.

Hope everybody has had a good day and looking forward to the long weekend - we are off to Grand Designs Live to research as much as we can for our renovations and doing some packing so we can start destroying just about everything in our main living space.

I would say to anyone thinking of doing major renovations with small children - without the money to get professionals to do it - DON'T - it takes too bloody long when there are only 2 of you to do the work and one has to be full time childcare.

squidgeymiller · 30/04/2009 17:46

thanks kleinemaus, that's really good news about your early diagnosis for DS, and also makes me feel a bit better about making a fuss - was beginning to feel bad. Told my Mum about it and she was of the same opinion as the MW - did I really need it and why do I think there's a problem! This is after me telling her how emotional and MS-y I've been the last week! I told you she had the no tact, she can even make me feel about 2 years old from 300 miles away! tut!

MHCB I'm really surprised you plan to go back so early, I found it really hard to leave DD at 6 months, let alone 2. Will you be going straight back full time? Even if you're OK to leave db you need to consider yourself - it's really tiring having a new baby (even though it looks like you do nothing all day to anyone who's never had kids!)

squidgeymiller · 30/04/2009 18:39

sorry, just realised I completely missed a page before replying so my note doesn't make a lot of sense! Sorry!!

Sammysam, cp might not be that bad - I haven't had it before (as far as we can tell but tests aren't clear) so had the immuno-thingy jab when DD got c pox I thought we'd be in for a nightmare but she got a total of 9 spots and they all crusted over within a few days so she only actually had 2 days off nursery (thurs and fri) then was back on Tues with no probs. Think we got away with the prize!!

HC - don't get a detailed scan unless either the blood tests give cause for concern, or if either parent or a prev sibling has had a congenital heart type problem. As if these are the only problems that could occur or need prior diagnosis! I peronally find it alarming. Just becuase DD hasn' had any heart problems (that we're aware of - we didn't get a detailed scan with her so for all I know there may be probs lurking) and my DH and I don't have any probs does NOT nec. mean DB will be the same.

I know there is prob nothing to worry about but I'd still much rather be prepared as much as poss!

rubyslippers · 30/04/2009 18:51

just a quick check in - sorry to hear about the potential CP infection sammy - hope you are alright

forgot most of the other personals

am soooo tired - just one more day of work then a long weekend ...

who has something nice planned - we are going to BBQ if the weather is good

DH got me some alcohol free beer - whoop!

LittleMissBliss · 30/04/2009 20:08

Sammysam&HC thanks for the advice ds is 18 months and understands allot but can only say about seven word or so at the moment. He doe know what 'no' means 'get down' etc. Up untill about a week ago he would listen. He just seems to have a streak of rebel in him!
I I think he is bored as e haven't done much today and he's full of beans. We couldn't even go into the garden which normally drain a little energy as he can clim on the slide and decking and push his toys about.
On a positive note his Nana came to the rescue at 5.30pm and has taken him for the night and tomorrow to allow me to get some extra sleep. She also popped into M&S after work to pick up some dinner for DP and I!! Told you she was lovely!

Princessmel No kicks yet for me but lots of jumping and wrigling going on in their!

JamesDavidmum Hope you get some great ideas from the grand designs show! I do envy you being able to create your ideal home. But can understand the stres and chaos that must come to achive the lovely end product.

Idreamofbeanie Don't worry with my last pregnancy i only felt flutters at about 20 weeks, No propper kicks untill a little later. Just shows you still have tone to your stomach muscles unlike me now!

Morning all!

Still feel rough so am feeling sorry for myself

Heard from sil last night and her twin sister had her baby yesterday-a little boy. It went very badly though-she lost over 5L of blood and very almost had to have a histerectomy-she is still in a very bad way Makes me realise how lucky I was that everything went fairly smoothly with me last time.......fingers crossed it does this time too!

It hit us last night that we are nearly at the half way mark I think with the extra worries we have we haven't really been thinking more long term-more day to day week to week. Have also realsied i'll have to get all dd's clothes down from the loft and sort them out.....not looking forward to that

For some very strange reason I can't stop being over-excited about dd's birthday-not only have I planned pressies already i've also found the cake i'm going to make we still have 2 and a half months to go!!!

Anyone else still having random dreams? I had a weird/nasty one last night and am sure I was crying in my sleep.....they stopped for a couple of weeks when I had some acupuncture to treat them so will make sure I remember to tell her next week again.

LMB-dd has always been very strong willed. It has got better but it is hard when they are little and can't say much. She definately improved when she started speaking much more. Boredom is a major factor though I think!

IDOAB-everyone is different and every baby different-it all depends on your shape and how the baby is lying. I was lucky to feel dd very early on for a first baby-I think it was about 12wks or so, and have felt this one on and off very early from about 9wks, and some quite strong kicks now at 18+5. I have quite a small body (for my height) and grow big and very active babies though so think that may have something to do with it You'll feel it soon don't worry and after a while you'll be waking up because of it-it can get quite violent!!! I remember really missing it after dd was born though and having a few phantom kicks !!!!

djm-very of the grand designs show-where is it?! I'd love to do what you are doing but you are right doing it with small children must be VERY hard. It will be worth it when it is done though! Just think what an amazing home you'll have! I'm sure we'll never get round to doing it.....dp has alot of 'grand' ideas that never happen

I hope everyone is ok today, Flame I am thinking of you and hoping that cutting out dairy is starting to work x x x

theboob · 01/05/2009 09:20

Morning ladies

Have never had Braxton Hicks so don't know what they are like.

DJM-we did a self build for our first and only house so got to design it ourselves. It was fun until the building started then it took so long (2 years) as we were first time buyers and were paying for it as we went along. The compensation we both got from the motorbike accident helped lots. Luckily we both still lived with our parents so have utmost respect for those that do this with an existing family like on Grand Designs. We have lived in it for 9 years and still haven't finished the ensuite and some of the first decorated rooms desperately need doing again but DH not into DIY which is not a good thing. Him and FIL did alot of the work on the house when building to cut costs and I think he feels he has done his bit. Tried explaining that once you own a house the work never stops.

Have potted my 2 cucumber plants this morning so summer is on its way. Dad is growing me tomato plants and runner beans.

Have a lovely day ladies.

Hi everyone.

Was a bit alarmed to read all these posts about people feeling kicks already. I haven't felt a thing yet and I'm 17+2 today. IDOB - reassured to hear that you haven't felt anything either........

Cazza - I'm due two days after you and I'm planning on stopping work on 11th September and taking a combination of holiday and mat leave until the baby is born. It's my first so can't speak from experience, but I'm really looking forward to the time at home to really indulge myself and enjoy the peace and quiet - I imagine it will be the last time I'll be able to for very many years....... My holiday year runs from January to December though so I won't have much left to take by then, but I'll win out next year as I'll have loads to take before I return.

sammysam - so sorry to hear that things are still tough for you. Good news about the scan though and hope you're feeling more confident about the baby.

flame - hope you're OK.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable Bank Holiday. HC - did you resolve things with your DH about the motorbike show? Hope you have a good break, whatever you do.

hackneybird · 01/05/2009 12:18

Just popping into say hello to everyone. I have no news whatsoever from my side! Feeling fine, not really sensing any movements but this is my first and am only 16+1 so probably too early, plus I don't really know what I'm supposed to be feeling either.

As I feel so well I have been worrying a touch that all is ok, but guess this is all part of the 'bloom' of the 2nd trimester.

I have been reading regularly so know what is going on with you all.

Have a lovely weekend and the weather forecast is quite good - yay!

KKKKaty · 01/05/2009 13:15

Hello All!

Like Hackneybird I have nothing much to report from my end, but have been reading every day to keep up with you all. I'm 17 weeks this weekend, so I'm looking forward now to feeling the baby move around, although I know I might not feel this for two or three weeks at least yet. When you feel it first time, do you think "that's new - never felt that before!" or do you think "hang on, that feeling I've been having for a while now must be the baby"?! Sometimes I think I feel something but can't really say it feels any different from wind, so it can't be the baby can it? Advice please from those in the know....!

It's a surprisingly lovely day here in Yorkshire - I've been out pottering round the veg patch too HC - potted on the sweetcorn and put some netting over the broccoli in the (probably vain) hope that I might prevent caterpillars. We'll see!
