Morning ladies

This weather is fab.

fidelma-I too am very sorry about your friend. Glad you had a good day yesterday.

Flame-yay for feeling perkier and love the scan pics.

I only went to AN classes before DD1 was born and shan't bother again as I feel I won't learn anything from them IYKWIM.

Good luck for scans this week. My boy hardly moves now and my bump is very low down so perhaps he has moved. Freaked me out yesterday because despite me prodding him he just wouldn't kick so got the doppler out and heard the HB immediately. Phew!

Big wave!

Morning all

Saw consultant this morning. he didn't seem to really know why I was there as asthma fine and I was fit and well. BP 132/70-taken by a student on the 4th attempt who couldn't get the cuff on properly and with a midwife in the corner of the room on the phone saying "this patient is Rh- and we've not put her down for Anti-D". So I'm sitting there wondering what the hell anti-d is and why she is shouting on the phone - was expecting my bp to be skiy high after all that!

Apparently, my blood group wasn't tested at booking appt, it was only done when I had my 21wk scan on 17th May so they've only just picked up that I'm O neg. Anti D seems routine here, athough they gave me no info on it, just told me I had to have it.

Heard baby's heartbeat which was lovely . He's been wriggling a lot since Fiday, he must be exhausted. I find it quite ticklish as well which was a bit embarrasing when I laughed out loud in church yesterday

Consultant would be fine with me going back to midwife led care except there is a whacking great red "consultant" sticker on my notes and he couldn't understand why. So I'll see him again at 34 weeks, I live v close to the hospital anyway.

Has anyone here had Anti-D?

Sammysam - weather set to last until at least Wednesday

Flame-glad you feel better

Kleinemaus and Fidelma- hugs for your ds's

Halfmum-good luck for scan

HC-glad you heard hb. He'll probably start giving you whacking great kicks now to reassure you!

Big sunny wave to everyone

theboob · 01/06/2009 12:24

hi just marking again, will catch up next weeks congratulations on all scan news, exam at 2pm and i'm having braxton hicks with the stress i think

hackneybird · 01/06/2009 14:06

fidelma I feel so for your friend. It is so hard when we feel so helpless and just want to make things better for our friends. I second the others, do vent here if you need to.

princessmel I am another Asos.com fan, I got a similar blue jersey drape dress from there recently which is so very comfortable. I love it, and wear it with their 3/4 length leggings, which I heartily recommend.

What wonderful weather we have had, such a treat. I splurged on a new summer dress from French Connection and it made me feel really lovely. I justified the cost as I never spend any money on wine or going out any more! Plus it's not maternity (although forgiving) so I can wear it in summers to come.

HC I share your worry re: movement. Sometimes mine doesn?t move all day then ? bam in the evening it?s wiggling around all over the place. I wish I could stop obsessing about it. I keep meaning to get a Doppler, but I?d never be off it so am restraining myself.

We went for a picnic yesterday then on to the pub afterwards, and it was really hard trying to make a warm half pint of weak shandy last for two hours while DH and mates got really pissed. I gave up in the end and left them to it. When DH got back ? gone 11pm - he was absolutely plastered and insisted on going through girl names for the baby, so I had to humour him until he passed out.

sammysam · 01/06/2009 14:12

Good luck Boob!

I'm glad you are feeling a bit better Flame

I've been getting lots of BH as well-not too comfy!

Fidelma- at your boys tooth-I hope it goes well-dd would not be good in that situation!!

HT-glad it went well-hopefully after next time they'll peel the sticker off!!!!

Feel like I have loads of stuff to sort out before this baby arrives-but I don't know where to start

Glad to hear the weather is here til weds-shame it can't always be here

twinklegreen · 01/06/2009 14:33

happytangerine I'm rhesus -ve and have had the anti-d with both mine, it's not really a big deal although it's always made my arm ache for a few days after. I have chosen not to have it in pregnancy this time (unless i have bleeding at any point)but will have it when i've given birth (if baby's blood group is +ve). Do you know what blood type you dp is? If he is also -ve there's no need to have it at all.

smallone · 01/06/2009 15:51

HT I have a feeling my appt tomorrow will be just as fruitful! My friend had to have anti d, as she is rh-, two or three injections I think, one around now, one in labour and one post. It is only a problem if the babies dad is rh+, as the baby could inherit a + blood type from him. Then if your blood and the babys blood mixes at any point then it can spark off some sort of reaction leading to "blue baby" syndrome. The anti d stops it, but I've no idea how!

HappyTangerine · 01/06/2009 17:53

Twinklegreen and smallone - thanks for the anti-d info. I was a bit when mw started ranting to person on phone!

SIL knows she is A+ but DH has no idea of his blood group - his mum thinks he must be A+ like her and SIL but that isn't always the case is it? My mum and sister are A+ but it looks like I follow my dad-he was O- as well. Anyway, I'm happy to have the anti-d and have resolved to stop listening to my mum(strangely therapeutic - she is STILL saying I'm O+

smallone good luck for tomorrow,I'll check back and see how you've got on.

Boob - hope exam went well

Off into Liverpool tomorrow to get my passport(rush job) and do some clothes shopping while I wait the 4 hours for it.Enjoy the sun everyone -are you all finding that there are loads more butterflies about? They keep dancing around my hedge and divebombing the blackbirds, v funny to watch.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 01/06/2009 18:26

Hi had the consultants appointment and scan and all is well.

A MW spoke to me first and we went through my notes from the last birth in detail (which took ages because I did go through the full monty of childbirth possibilities during the last labour incl forceps, epidural and finally ECS). I had a bit of a blub at the memory of it all and told her my worries and she was very good. She was surprised that no one had gone through it with me before.

My main questions was would I be able to have an epidural again after having such a bad reaction to it last time - apparently my low bp reaction is very common. Another question was, is my pelvis wide enough for the baby to come out (seeing as it didn't make it last time) - again she said it should be ok and that the babies position could be completely different and be able to fit through.

Then saw lovely Registrar who was very reassuring and he said they would keep an eye on me and plan for VBAC. Feel a lot better about the whole thing but will want more info and reassurance before birth.

Interestingly HappyTangerine, my consultant pointed out that I should have the Anti D injection which no one had mentioned before. I have A neg blood type. I think you just have it to make sure you don't form antibodies if the baby has a different blood type to you.

see here

Then had scan and everything is fine there. The scanner checked loads of stuff. We didn't find out the sex. DH thinks a girl and I think a boy.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 01/06/2009 18:29

Kleine Maus - I am not planning on going to antenatal class. Was rubbish last time. I had read so much that I felt like I knew more than was told. I think DH liked it though.

Actually will be very difficult for us both to go anyway as we don't have baby sitter on call!

LittleMissBliss · 01/06/2009 21:40

Pricessmel Just popped on asos and got 2 dresses and a top! Both the dresses i nearly got a few weeks ago but got distracted when it came to the paying part. They have both gone into the 30% off promo so have saved a fair bit so feel really chuffed! Thanks for reminding me!

Kleine i wont be going to the classes this time arround, didn't find them that useful last time as also read up allot and watched a fair bit of birth related programmes before hand.

fidelma Hope it all goes well with your ds.

Think we have a name now but is a secret as i think its a grower. If we tell people now they will ruin it for me. Harder to be rude when it belongs to a baby.

good morning everyone

DS is 3 today

Off to work soon in the blazing sun but may have a look at ASOS first

have good days

x

princessmel · 02/06/2009 12:53

Hello

Glad some of you have found some nice things at ASOS. I will try and put a pic of me wearing the dress on my profile.

I am off to the splash park with dd and her friend in a bit. It is not going to be as nice weather wise the rest of the week, so want to make the most of it.

I am feeling more and more slight movements from baby. Very spaced out and iregular though. I did think it would more definate movements by now. Heard the hb again this morning. It is so easy to find now which is great.

Scan on thursday, not long now!

princessmel · 02/06/2009 12:59

Pic of ASOS sale dress on profile!

rubyslippers · 02/06/2009 14:01

lovely princessmel

am having a browse now ...

KleineMaus · 02/06/2009 14:42

Is anyone else doing DIY? I'm not doing it personally, but in the past two weeks dh has sanded floors, painted two bedrooms and is in the process of dismantling the ceiling in the kitchen. Our house is covered in dust. I'm feeling a bit guilty that I haven't just moved out for the sake of ds and this baby's health. The dust isn't bothering me (and I'm asthmatic), but I can't help wondering what might be in the dust from an old building (1890s I think). Basically I'm hoping for people to tell me not to worry about it. I suppose I could have gone to my mum's but it's such a disruption to our routine and I'm editing a book that needs to be finished before the baby arrives and I need to spend a lot of time online for it and my mum only has a clunky, slow landline connection which they have to pay for during the day so I can only use it at night. Am I being selfish?

Treats · 02/06/2009 15:53

Hi everyone. Glad to hear that it's all going well for you all and that there have been some successful scans. My baby is wriggling around so much now - I think he was inspired by Diversity on Saturday night!! Am definitely going to have give up coffee. Was feeling a bit tired this morning, so stopped off for a Starbucks on the way to work - couldn't finish half of it because s/he started squirming so much. Made me feel a bit guilty - like I'd upset him.......

KleineMaus - how much longer is the DIY going on for? Is there any way you can block off your main living room and keep it dust free for the duration? It certainly sounds as if it would be a hassle to move out, but I can understand why you're concerned. I could reassure you and tell you that it'll be fine, but that's not because I know that for a fact.....

princessmel - at the splashpark. I would just love to be in a lovely outdoor swimming pool just now....... I looked up the class schedule for the local swimming pool the other day but they don't seem to offer anything for mums to be which is a bit disappointing.

Next midwife appointment tomorrow. It's crept up on me - I thought it was ages away when they first made it for me, and now here it is!

princessmel · 02/06/2009 17:37

Dd and her friend had a fab time! I didn't get wet, some mums were in bikinis! I was really hot so moved into the teeny bit of shade as soon as someone left.

Went to get ds some sandals this afternoon. I can't bear to think of him with hot feet at school. The thought of wearing huge black shoes and socks makes me feel faint. Anyway ds is only allowed closed toe sandals at school and they are really hard to find. Crocs don't count.
Clarks have some but they are about £35 and that is too much. He will only be at school for another month or so, then will only want to wear his crocs.

I got some in Next in the end for £14. They only had one closed toe type. They don't look very 'schooly' but that is tough! If anyone complains I will send in a letter.

I am making a quiche tonight, inspired from another thread. I hope it turns out ok!

Re antenatel classes, we are not doing them. We did them with ds and that's it.

DevilsAdvocaat · 02/06/2009 19:00

happy birthday to your big boy rubyslippers

princessmel · 02/06/2009 19:02

Yes happy birthday to RS ds

smallone · 02/06/2009 19:52

Hi all, had consultants appt today and saw his registrar who was rubbish, thick accent and mumbled so I could only understand one word in 5. Basically said I was there because of previous cs and a high bmi, and had I had any thoughts about the delivery of this baby. I said I wanted to try a vbac but if I ended up with another cs then so be it. She gave me some info on vbac and then said she'd listen to the heartbeat.

She then struggled for at least a minute to hear anything on the doppler, not even my heartbeat, but she was putting it really low down, close to my pubic bone and I was thinking, the baby isn't there anymore you twit, its somewhere near my navel. But anyway after a while of letting her panic I told her that the baby was kicking so I knew it was ok. She then looked mightily relieved and said she wanted to scan to check, so we did that, again she struggled to even find the baby but it was there and fine, and off I trotted.

So I read my notes on the way home and the cheeky witch has put in my notes that she was unable to find the babies heartbeat because of my high bmi. Nothing to do with her own incompetence of course. I wonder what her excuse would have been if I hadn't have been overweight. I must back this up with the fact that no-one else has had a problem getting a heartbeat or scan, and I even heard the hb at 16wks. GRR

HumphreysCorner · 02/06/2009 20:14

smallone- at your experience. Can't believe this is happening to you as when I had DD2 I was 4 stone overweight and nobody in the medical profession said anything. Infact when I turned up with a baby nobody had known I was PG as I obviously looked just overweight to them. A girl at work was due a month before me and the customer's bought her pressies and I did wonder why they didn't buy me anything being as though I had worked there 19 more years than her. Try and get your VBAC as you will be more than able to deliver this way.

Happy B'Day to ruby's DS.

Hope all OK.

HC

23 weeks!

rubyslippers · 02/06/2009 20:31

thank you for all the birthday wishes - DS is snoring away, exhausted after all the cake eating

Smallone - that is rubbish

when i was PG with DS my sonographer wrote on my notes "difficult scan due to BMI" - she was the only one who ever had any issue finding anything

really sorry you have had a rubbish experience

have you thought of getting a doula? They can really help suport you to get the VBAC

anyhoo - how is everyone doing in the heat? I am wilting ... ankles are so swollen - am sure even my toes are fat

smallone · 02/06/2009 20:34

Thanks HC I think it might have even been a duff doppler coz it picked up nothing, not even my heartbeat! Its a very good job that I was so confident that my baby was ok, coz otherwise she could have got me really panicked. But the fact that I had a high bmi was not dealt with at all during the appt. Hopefully I'll see the actual consultant at my next appt at 36wks and I might get some sense out of him.

smallone · 02/06/2009 20:37

Thanks RS too! Too skint for a doula I think, but I'm going to talk to my community MW about my birth plan as the main thing concerning me is the constant monitoring. I think as long as I can remain mobile I'll be fine and I don't want to be strapped down constantly. I managed to say no to alot of things while I was having dd so I think as long as I have the right info before hand I can hold my own.
