OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MrsPuddleduck · 15/04/2009 09:42

Thanks rubyslippers - I am slowling losing faith in the midwives around here Let's hope I don't need a prescription anytime soon.

I am under the impression that today is going to be one of the hottest so far can't see it myself!

BellaCullen · 15/04/2009 10:31

Sparkly sending an e-mail would be great haven`t got CAT either. My e-mail adress is [email protected] thanks.

DD was horrendous last night keeping me up crying and scratching. She has bad ezcema and reacts to diary.Has been eating chocolate and cheese so will definitely need Piriton tonight, its just getting her to have it.

My parents are over till sat and took ds to Stonehenge today so can chill out with dd a bit.

Treats · 15/04/2009 12:00

HI everyone

HC - glad the amnio went well. Fingers crossed for the results!

I've got a late second MW appt too - not till 22 weeks. And it's my first baby. My sister's seeing hers again in a couple of weeks. I was a bit about that, but I don't know what's normal. Do you think I'll get the MATB1 then?

Bella - good luck with changing MWs - I think it's really important that you feel comfortable with the person who's looking after you.

Didn't notice who posted asking about where we all want to give birth - sorry! - but am fairly sure that I'll be going for the big hospital. It actually has a birthing unit within it, so I'll have the choice within the same building. I think I would like to stay at home as long as possible while in labour, but really don't want to have a home birth. Flame me if this is trivial, but I don't think I want to deal with clearing up the mess after I've just given birth......

hackneybird · 15/04/2009 12:48

HC glad that's all over for you, fingers crossed.

Treats I think the MWs do the clearing up.

I'm quite keen on the homebirth option, if I am allowed. I love the idea of being able to labour in my own space, then afterwards shower in my bathroom and get into my own bed. Of course I'll probably I'll end up strapped to a machine in hospital for 48 hrs.

Whilst we are on the subject of appointments, does anyone have an appt between the 12 week scan and the 20 week scan, or is it normal to just have the 8 week gap?

Sparklytwinkletoes · 15/04/2009 13:03

Treats - you don't have to clean up the icky bits, the midwives do it for you, least they have in all the home births I've read about.

I was going for a home (water) birth last time but ended up with an emergency section instead, was heart breaking getting home and seeing everything all set up, pool full (but very cold by day 3)! Poor DH hadn't had time to empty it!

This time it will be at the big hospital which is very close by, under consultant led care, fighting not to be strapped onto a bed which I'm convinced is what led to the e-section last time.

BC - will email you the letter later, it will need tailoring of course, but hope its helpful.

HC - sorry, missed about your amnio, fingers crossed all is well today for you. Hope you're not sore or anything today either.

When I saw the MW at hospital after my 12 wk scan about consultant care, I mentioned about getting less appts. because it was my second pg, and she said I could have as many as I felt I needed - but that could just be because first time round was quite traumatic for me... I guess they have to try to limit the appts somehow or we'd all be in there every week!!! (At least I would!)

I've been having quite a lot of achey pain all day today, it started first thing so I whipped out the doppler and found the heartbeat which was very reassuring - I could listen to it for hours, its so sad, but instead am in work, bogging through stacks of data - its not one of my most exciting days at work!

rubyslippers · 15/04/2009 13:03

Treats - you won't have to clean up if you have a HB - the MWS will do that as they need to dispose of all the stuff hygenically

I am having an appt at 16 weeks with the MW, then 20 week scan

they seem to be quite hot on appts where i am

Sparklytwinkletoes · 15/04/2009 13:05

HB - sorry, missed your question - its normal to have an appt. at 16 weeks, in many areas that's the first appt. where the midwife will try to find the heartbeat and 'play it out loud' for you. I took DH to my 16 wk appt and met a lovely midwife (as BC will find out in my letter - we ended up transferring to her).

Sparklytwinkletoes · 15/04/2009 13:05

RS - Cross posted!

HappyTangerine · 15/04/2009 13:11

Just a quick one to say hi.
HC well done getting through the amnio.

Birth choices - I would love to have a home birth but midwife inferred that because I have mild asthma and am over 35, it's doubtful. Does anyone know of anyone with asthma who has had a home birth?

Midwife appointments - I have my 20 wk scan on 18th May, have to see consultant a week later and then see a midwife at 25 weeks.

Fairly horrendous day here- we lost a friend at Hillsborough (for 6 hrs I thought I'd lost my now husband) and every year is bad but they've been replaying the pitch scenes on the flaming news since 5.30am so this year is particularly tough. So tv off and trying to do relaxing things. Can anyone tell me - has it slipped off/down the news schedules yet? Maybe I should just get out of the house.

Flamesparrow · 15/04/2009 13:36

I have mild asthma and a home birth.

They clean everything and run you a bath - tis lovely.

littlepea72 · 15/04/2009 13:42

HC glad you got the test out of the way, is it tomorrow you find out?

Went to the hospital yesterday, was having bad pains in tummy, so ended up getting another scan. Everything was ok, just really bad stretching pains. My tummy has popped out so much that none of my clothes fit anymore, so ordered alot of M clothes. Had a smear also while i was there, they grabbed me for everything they could. My date has been put back 2 days also. We tried to find out the sex again yesterday, but the wee one was having none of it, kept jumping & turning away. I have my 2nd MW appointment next week & then another scan on the 27th May & one on the 2nd June.

theboob · 15/04/2009 16:42

hello all

i had my 16 week apt today,i was in and out the door, nothing now untill my 20 weeks scan then midwife again at 25 weeks

i seem to see a different midwife every time and always get asked if this baby has the same father as the rest this really annoys me as it takes 2 mins to look in my notes.......is it really hard to belive that a 27 year old women could be married to the same man with her 4th child sorry rant over
hope your all well today sorry for the me, me , me post x

HumphreysCorner · 15/04/2009 16:53

Hi all

littlepea-glad all is OK.

theboob-I thought the MW asking if this baby was planned was bad enough but asking about the father.

Not long now until tomorrow afternoon when I find out if Munchkin is OK and what the sex is.

Have been out all day and am knackered so need to have a sit down.

Hope all OK-be back later.

HC

Glad everyone has had a good Easter.
We went out last night and saw a play then went for chinese at 11pm I do have a life!!!

WM great news going to 3 children I really enjoyed my 3rd as I knew what I was doing at last.I also had a 3 year age gap which made it easier. What age gap are you having? After DC3 was 6 months I gave up most of my work.it was just too much with one at school one at nursery and one at home. The stress for our family just wasn,t worth it.I now work one afternoon a week and the children all come with me.(ballet teacher)However my mum also helps with the children as they aren,t all in the same class.

My sickness is much better.hardly any of my clothes fit.I have also put almost all of my clothes away.no point in them taking up too much space.Still haven,t bought any mat clothes must get on with it.

HappyTangerine · 15/04/2009 18:24

Flamesparrow - thank you - thats the kind of ammunition I could do with! I so want a home birth, being at home would make all the difference to me.

HappyTangerine · 16/04/2009 08:21

Morning all

Woke up feeling fantastic, I think that despite leaving the job and its early starts, I'll always be an early bird, 5am seems to be my time. Good practive for when baby comes along I guess. After rarely seeing my husband for 2 years due to my working away, I am so enjoying being at home and finally have the energy to do stuff. I have the urge to paint the outside walls today, not sure if the weather will hold tho.

Sorry if my 1st post yesterday was a bit moany btw, didn't know how to face the day.

I desperately need to get some maternity clothes now so feel an online shopping session coming on. Any recommendations?

HC-good luck for today, am thinking of you.

littlepea so glad everything was okay

To anyone feeling sick still, I so hope it passes soon.
x

sammysam · 16/04/2009 09:10

Morning all!

I'm so proud of dd-she has really taken to potty training-2 days with no accidents and as soon as she woke up this morning she shouted wee wee and did a wee-her nappy is dry-and has been almost dry the whole week from the night! It is going far far better than I ever expected.....lets just hope it stays that way!!

RE homebirths-mw's clear everything up for you (would prob not consider if they didn't!) and they'll do other things like fix drinks/food/baths etc. I'll be so so upset if I don't get to this time

HT-I've got so fed up of trying to find nice maternity jeans i've ended up ordering one of each of all the next ones they had-and to be honest they are all good and some of them are lovely-i'm having trouble deciding which ones to keep I really wasn't expecting that as the pair I had from last time were dire! I haven't really seen any mat. tops that have taken me yet but have bought several non-mat. ones that shoud see me through and hopefully i'll see some others soon.

I have my 16wk apt. on fri then my 20wk scan on the 12th May and then I think I have a 25wk apt. I was quite sad when I remembered that after your first you get less.....

STILL waiting on the blood test results...ICBINB how are you? Have you had your results yet?

I too have been quite crampy/achey recently-it really does play havock (sp?) with my imagination/paranoid brain. But it seems so common that I can't believe I didn't have it with dd!!!

theboob- at your mw. It makes me so cross. When dd was 3months she had a very bad d&v bug and ended up in hospital on a drip-dp came straight from work in his suit to be with us and the docs asked us if we lived together. I was so and why do they assume the worst? Both of us had never previously wanted to get married (both lots of parents divorced) but it really affected me (and dp to a lesser extent) and now I feel like it'd be the only way to (try) and avoid that. Sorry for the rant!

I hope everyone is ok today. My sickness is easing a bit now-feel generally much better and only sick once yesterday. Feel very tired though-am having very vivid and LOUD dreams-I wake in the morning and it is so nice that it is quiet! Very strange!

princessmel · 16/04/2009 09:12

Hello everyone,

Not posted since my first post but have been reading everyday.

I am still feeling sicky and faint on and off throughout the day. I am just trying to eat and drink a lot.

I had a lovely day yesterday with the dcs. Went to a really nice park and then visited some friends and sat/played in their garden in the sun

HC I know how you must be feeling. I had the amnio with ds and the wait was so stressful. In the end dh took me shopping to take our minds of it and ended up buying me a ring, it always makes me think of ds now.

I found out the sex with the amnio too. It was such a lovely thing to know after all the horrible waiting.

With dd we had the nuchal. No amnio.

This time we haven't had anything. And wont be having the triple test either.

I should get up. I have a funeral to go to today And I need to go and buy a pair of black ballet pumps as I can only find one of mine.
Its not been easy finding something that fits and is suitable to wear to the funeral. My bump is starting to grow! ds calls it my 'lump' lol

I'm 13 weeks today btw.

Hope you all have a sick free day

lixanismapolium · 16/04/2009 09:16

Hi All

Everyone's sickness seeems to be disappearing - great news!

HC - good luck for your scan this afternoon. I'm so jealous! Yesterday I booked a private 16 week gender scan because I just can't wait until 22 weeks to find out! Just less than 2 weeks to wait for that one now.

Also have 16 week mw appt booked on the same day. This is with the mw who will look after me most of the way through the pregnancy - feeling a bit apprehensive about meeting her after reading all of the stories on here. Fingers crossed she will be one of the OK ones.

Pretty sure that when I have the baby there won't be any chance of having a mw I have met before, which I suppose is a little strange, but I'm not overly concerned about it.

Life is so comfortable now that the secret is out and I have been able to move into maternity clothes! Got some Red Herring tops in Debenhams at half price, so worth a look if anyone is looking for some. Has anyone seen any good maternity swimwear for ladies with 'curves'??

Have a nice day all!

MrsPuddleduck · 16/04/2009 09:18

Hi

HC - hope all goes well with the amnio results today!

Fidelma - thanks for that. I will have a three and a half year gap between DS2 and the baby so am hoping that things will be easier this time. He will be at the school nursery 9-11.30 every morning as well so I should get some rest in theory Now all I have to worry about it getting 3 car seats in the middle row of our car. We have a Zafira but I don't want to use the extra seats as they never strike me as very safe.

HappyTangerine - enjoy shopping. I found it easier to try things on. I am usually a size14 but have been buying size 16 maternity clothes if I can get away with it as I am already quite large and need the extra growing room!

Theboob - I think your care goes downhill with every pregnancy. When I went to have by bloods repeated they didn't even bother taking my blood pressure just in and out. Then they said as I was due to go and see a consultant at week 17 there was no point going to see them at week 16 and just to go back at 24 weeks. It makes you sick - I am just as keen to know all things are well this time around as I was with my first.

theboob · 16/04/2009 09:46

good luck with your amnio results today HC...will be thinking of you , and our first known sex on the thread, very exciting

when i finish my nurse training i am going to take the 18 month top up midwifery course, and i know the type of midwife i will bbe

have been up all night with DS2 and his chickenpox,he really is ill with them poor lamb
have a great day everyone x

Flamesparrow · 16/04/2009 10:03

Good luck

@ people with disappearing sickness. My GP is now keeping an eye on my weight as I am still losing and still on the pills

hackneybird · 16/04/2009 10:09

Hi Tangerine

I just saw your post yesterday morning - how hard it must have been for you as it has had so much more attention than usual this year.

I couldn't read anything or watch anything about it without feeling really emotional. I have such respect for anyone affected by what happened.

Anyway....glad you're feeling more chipper now. I had a mooch around the New Look website yesterday and saw some nice jeans and a pretty dress that I am tempted by.

Icantbelieveitsnotbitter · 16/04/2009 10:15

Just back from a visit to the midwife. Still in the 'danger' period from the parvovirus but, we listened to the heartbeat and from that the midwife said that there doesn't appear to be a problem at the moment.

Got another scan on 1 May (17 weeks) then the standard 21 week scan and any others that the consultant slips in between and after those two. I'm probably going to have the 4D scan too - around 25 weeks - I did with my DS and I'd like to with this one just so I feel like I treated them the same, no favouritism !

My midwife did say that my consultant at the hospital is very good and deals with all high risk pregnancies.

I'm feeling pretty good - had a cold for 6 weeks and my sleep is very disturbed but, all pregnancy niggles seem to be withdrawing and I'm hopeful that once the cold goes (if ever this cold goes) that I'll feel a lot more like me !

So glad everyone else is feeling better - and very at Sammysam's daughter - what a potty training star !

Might have to arrange a baby swap with someone on here - DS is adamant that we're not keeping a girl so might need an unwanted boy if there are any ??

lixanismapolium · 16/04/2009 10:50

Icantbelieveitsnotbitter - DD wants a sister, so may be able to help you out on that one
