Wow thread number three already!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
HappyTangerine · 14/04/2009 14:27

theboob - I had to ask my doctor about this last week as I spend a lot of time with my young neices, both of whom came out in full blown chickenpox last Monday. Doctor said I should be fine as long as I'd had it. If any symptoms, there is an injection of something theey can give to help minimise risks to baby so definately check. Hug for your DS, chicken pox is so miserable.

stroopwafel and JelyTotz, congrats on the scans!

hackneybird-ooh I'm glad its just not me with the hypersensitive nipples. Half the time I don't want to wear anything against my skin - bit inconvenient when I want to go out! Re the back pain - yes, I'm also getting it intermittently, have had a few nights lying on the floor for a few hours. I swim a lot though and I think that really helps.

HC good luck today, hope its gone ok

Flamesparrow · 14/04/2009 14:38

for the crying Patmum

Could well be stretching with the aching Hackney - I remember being worried sick with various pains with DD

CookieMonster1 · 14/04/2009 15:44

Wow this thread has grown over Easter. It's hard to keep up with you all.

Treats that's such great news, I'm so pleased for you.

HC I hope all goes well today.

I went shopping for maternity clothes with DH at the weekend and I am really struggling to find smart workwear. It's getting really bad as I now only have one pair of work trousers I can do up properly. I have to wear a suit everyday and though my employer will relax this rule a little as I get bigger, they still expect smart trousers and a smart top at least. There are plenty of lovely tops and shirts out there but I couldn't find one pair of smart trousers that didn't hang like a sack, they were all really thin polyester too. Yuck!

Has anyone seen any smart maternity trousers anywhere? Help!

patmum · 14/04/2009 16:02

cookiemonster - how able are you with a needle and thread (and eyelet machine).

I may be boring but I just have a winter suit and a summer suit for work with 3 pairs of trousers each (saves having to choose what to wear in the mornings!). Last time I was pregnant I modified two of the pairs of my summer suit that year to lace up the front and have an extra gusset type piece in matching jersey fabric. It was great! I just wore the jacket undone & bought some maternity tops. It worked particularly well as they were washable ones so I was never without! If you're interested I guess I could post a picture on my page to show you what I mean?

I'll use them again this year but they do work better with a little bit more of a bump. At the moment I've managed to find two pairs of quite smart trousers from Blooming Marvellous (£38 down to £5 each!) that have flat fronts and stretchy sides. I almost fill them on their smallest setting but am using a bump belt to take up any slack. Far more comfortable than trying to do up my other work trousers!

BellaCullen · 14/04/2009 16:06

stroopwafel and flamesparrow congratulations on your scans.Flame what great pictures wish mine were that good and clear.

Saw my mw today and cant stand her.Was going to ask questions, even wrote them down but she was just rushing to get me out after 5 mins.Wont be seeing her again, don`t really know how to change though.Anyone any ideas. But she said to see her or GP next so rather see my GP.

Still feeling bit sick hoping Ill feel better after week 16 on friday.Sorry feeling a bit down after seeing cow of a mw still hasnt listened for heartbeat.Really disappointed.

Sparklytwinkletoes · 14/04/2009 16:13

BC, i changed midwives last time as I really didn't get on with mine either, I had to write off to the local area head midwife, you should be able to find out the address from your GP surgery ? I think ? or have you got a central team MW number you can ring, as they will be able to give you the address too.

Sparklytwinkletoes · 14/04/2009 16:15

BC, just found this article which explains it better than I did!

I'll have a dig around and see if I can find the letter I sent if you like?

KleineMaus · 14/04/2009 16:57

Had a midwife appointment today. A bit disappointing - didn't get to listen to the heartbeat and don't have another appointment till 28 weeks!

Is anyone else unsure about where to have the baby? I was told I had 4 options - a local birthing unit (new and very nice apparently - but you can only stay 6 hrs after the baby is born and they can only take 1 at a time, but it's very close and in the town where my parents live), a bigger unit in a community hospital where you can stay, a home birth and the main hospital which is about an hour's drive away. Although part of me would like a home birth and I did have a very straightforward birth with ds, I'm a bit scared of the only medical back-up being an hour away. But it also turns out that there is zero medical back-up in either of the birth units, so you might as well be at home (apart from having no mess to clear up). Of course, there may be no decision to make when it comes to it, if there are any complications I'll have to go to the big hospital. I was just spoiled last time in that I only lived 15 minutes away from a major hospital and so was able to stay at home until the very last minute. DS was born about 45 minutes after we got there. It was great! Are most people thinking of a big hospital or are you thinking of taking the chance of it all going really well and planning on a birthing unit. Or do you think it's too early to be worrying about it?

rubyslippers · 14/04/2009 17:26

ooh lovely scan pictures everyone!

HB - stretching pains are really common as all the ligaments soften ... of course if you are worried call your MW

HC - hope everything went ok

Bella - sorry to hear about your MW and hope you get something sorted

I saw my consultant today (am high risk) and he has agreed that I can use the birth unit rather than the labour ward so am very pleased

KM- it is never too early to think about your birth choices. If you want a HB, talk to your MW. I would have done but i can't ... altho' you are an hour from the hospital a MW will see if things aren't progressing so get you to a hospital in good time. also if you need to be blue lighted the journey will be pretty quick

HumphreysCorner · 14/04/2009 18:44

Hi ladies

Amnio done after a 2 hour wait and results due Thurs pm. Am fretting now over every little niggle.

Hackney-cramping is quite normal but if it lasts too long you should give your MW a call. They tend to say if there is no bleeding then there is nothing to worry about.

Good news on scans today but at an internal scan though. You could have stuffed a choc bar down you first to make baby move. Flame-what super pics.

littlepea-how did you get on today?

Bella-that is rotten you didn't get to hear the heartbeat.

theboob-if you have had the pox then you are fine and in no danger at all.

Righty ho, must reheat my sweet and sour pork I got for my tea so big wave to all.

HC

rubyslippers · 14/04/2009 19:12

aw HC - hope the time passes nice and fast for you

enjoy your dinner

stroopwafel · 14/04/2009 19:31

HC I did mention that I had read about eating sweet things to wake baby up (here!) and the mw said, never heard of that one! Her method was to try coughing... and yeah, not the most comfortable of scans I must say! But got some great pics.. will see if I can work out how to upload em

Flamesparrow · 14/04/2009 19:40

Argh for internal scan!

I think my pics are so clear because I am that week or so further ahead (scan at 13+3 weeks rather than 12). I only managed to hold down one mug of tea, so it certainly wasn't due to drinking gallons of water etc.

sammysam · 14/04/2009 20:16

Why am I so bad at keeping up with all the updates ?

Congrats to flamesparrow and stroopwafel for your amazing scans!
If I ever get anywhere near a scanner I'll try and post mine-they are really clear as well-I think the machines are much better than they were!

I'm looking forward to seeing the mw on fri so I can listen to the hb-hopefully the blood results will be back by then so we can discuss them as well.....

Only 4 weeks til my 20wk scan-really looking forward to that one-have been slightly paranoid again lately about any pains etc so will be really good to see the baby again...

May have been slightly stupid by eating half a jar of olives stuffed with jalapenos-they were so so good at the time-quite bad heartburn now

DD wore the same pair of pants and trousers all day today I am amazed and impressed!

I hope everyone is ok x x x

LittleMissBliss · 14/04/2009 20:18

DevilsAdvocaat · 14/04/2009 21:45

too tired for a long post but just wanted to say

flame i got a real 'boy' feeling when i looked at your scan. i'm usually wrong tho so ignore me

hc hope you're ok, well done for getting through today.

BellaCullen · 14/04/2009 22:20

Sparklytwinkletoes would be great if you can find the letter. Will see GP next time which is not till after next scan and ask her about it.Seems so hard to get any info about it.There`s also a midwife at ds school in children centre so will find out who that is.Sorry you had bad experience last time but glad am not only one.Had a lovely male mw last time might see if I can get him again.

KleineMaus god youre next appointments even later than mine. They dont seem to care ones weve had one they think we don`t need as much care.I had dd in the midwife led unit in my local hospital which is only 10mins car ride from us.It was so much better than normal ward and I had lovely water birth.

Am glad baby`s moving a lot at night at least know its ok.

Off to bed now have good day tomorrow.x

Flamesparrow · 14/04/2009 22:29

Lol - my feb post natal group all have girl feelings

Who was talking about birth locations? Given your list, I would opt for home birth tbh unless the journey from the unit to hospital is faster in an emergency than from your home. I am very pro home birth though so may not be the best to give advice

Sparklytwinkletoes · 14/04/2009 22:38

BC - am on different laptop in the evenings, and can send it as a word doc. Do you have an email address I can send it to - I'm not signed up for CAT and its a bit long to post on here .

sammysam · 15/04/2009 07:48

Morning!

Forgot to say last night-well done HC-the worst bit is over now! Did you say you get your results tomorrow? At least that is nice as fast.

I'm so so tired this morning-dd was up far too early and i'm still having my stupid dreams! Have more acupuncture this afternoon-will try and remember to tell her....

Flamesparrow · 15/04/2009 07:54

I missed about your amnio HC sorry

theboob · 15/04/2009 08:12

well done getting through your amnio HC

i have had the pox,but will mention it today to the midwife,i'm itchy all over lol(think its all in my head)and my ds2 is sooooo itchy bless him

will post longer later x

MrsPuddleduck · 15/04/2009 09:19

Morning all. Not much to report here but glad everyone else seems fine.

Does anyone know when you get the form for free prescriptions and then your MAT1B form?

rubyslippers · 15/04/2009 09:41

hello everyone

WM - you can get your form for free PX now. I got mine at my booking in and have (unfortuntaley) made good use of it

MATB1 is by 25 weeks IIRC

hope everyone is doing ok - hope the weather perks up = DS has gone to nursery dressed for summer

littlejay · 15/04/2009 09:42

I got the free prescriptions form from my GP as soon as I told him I was pregnant. The B1 used to be at 26/40 but I think now they give it to you at any point after your booking appointment.
