Thanks to Nutty for all the thread suggestions including this one. I hope no one minds but I picked this one in honour of the brilliant race commentary we had from Nuts and Frekkles the other night. Hopefully we will get some more.

Here's a fun game for all the family, and an excellent way of keeping small children occupied on rainy days!!

Cream together 1/2 lb each of butter and sugar. Add lemon zest and vanilla extract. Add one of four eggs and beat in well. Then (and this is the important part), throw in the shell of the egg you have just cracked while the beater is still going , so that the egg shell is smashed into a hundred small pieces and thoroughly distributed through your cake mix.
Attempt to sieve cake mix to remove shell, but then realise that mixture is still far too thick, as you have only added one egg of four needed! Proceed to go through cake mixture by hand, removing particles of shell and membrane - this is the part where a couple of small children would be really handy! Pepper proceedings with a selection of choice expletives. If at all possible, smear your bump with cake mix as you go.

Finish cake, put in a pre-heated oven for 40-50 minutes, pour yourself a G&T.

Enjoy!!!

Just had an e-mail entitled "Free tart burner when you buy six tarts" . Not actually spam, either.

Juwesm · 17/03/2009 18:40

Link to new DoH leaflet on preventing cot death. Don't think it's anything new though.

kazkiss · 17/03/2009 18:55

you seem to be on your own at the moment Ju, I will take this oppotunity to ask how you are doing? Not got long to go now?

Juwesm · 17/03/2009 19:03

I'm good thanks. Potentially no long to go, though it could be another month! Pottering around the house like an old biddy, baking cakes and dusting! How're the beanies today?

kazkiss · 17/03/2009 19:09

Glad you a doing a very good impression of nigella!

Twinkies are fine. They are finishing all their bottles now! and are alternating bottles and tube feeding. Doing really well.

Have you built your birthing pool? Have you heard from any of the other yummy mummys i.e elizabeth?

Juwesm · 17/03/2009 19:14

Twinkies now they're out is it? . Collecting birthing pool tomorrow, and then we'll give it an inflation test run etc. Still need to order a liner for it though. Haven't heard from Elizabeth (other than to say I've got the POD keys for Keats!). She must've had her 1st anti-D by now? And almost due for the scan to see whether her placenta has shifted. Perhaps I'll drop her a line. Went round to Yvette's for lunch last Weds. Sidney is a little sweetie!! Haven't heard anything more about Bukky and Tami. Yvette did say that William, Julie F's new one, had been quite poorly and in and out with bronchiectasis, but I think he's all better now.

I don't know what I've done to scare off the rest of the April Mums! May name change to ThreadKiller!!!

PuzzleRocks · 17/03/2009 19:16

Evening all, i'm looking forward to a good catch up. I have been beavering away in the kitchen most of the day. Also managed to launder all the baby clothes, sling, bedding etc etc.

What are peoples plans for Mothering Sunday?

SpringySunshine - Are you calling me a thread slag?

BB - Great that your LO is engaged. Not so great about the BP, get your feet up. I don't want to hear of you doing anything from here on in!

Mumble - Should I congratulate you on your show? They don't do Happy Show Day cards in Clintons. Congrats

OMG another baby! Posting for now.

I popped into work the other day and it seems horrendous there at the moment so I think we are better off out of it! lol.

I must also contact Laura and see how she is not spoken to her in a while. Did you know that the new band 4 they employed announced at interview that she is 21 weeks pregnant!

sounds sooo much fun.

Have fun blowing up your pool tomorrow. maybe if it is nice and warm you could put it in the garden and have a paddle....

BabyBolat · 17/03/2009 19:27

Evening all

Well DH has earned himself some major brownie points - came home from work, listened to me complain for about 20 minutes, ran me a bath (which I have been suitably soaking in for the past 30 minutes) tidied and hoovered all downstairs did the dishes and cleaned the kitchen - he is now just cleaning up the bathroom post all my products and I am sat with milkshake waiting for him to come down and friend to arrive! bliss!!

Puzzle - mothering sunday will be at mums, hopefully her cooking a nice roast dinner! DH and I have decided to do some nice long walks this weekend to encourage LO to get even further down

Kaz - oooh good news on twinkies - when do they think they will be able to come home - great that they are bottle feeding already!

Update on DH - he is popping to the shop to get the binbags I have forgotten for the past 5 days and will get me and said friend a mix of chocolate for tonight - there is a reason I married that man!!!

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 17/03/2009 19:29

BB - yay for engagement!!! that progress indeed you are on your way!!

Boffin - hahahahhaha well done for last posting bum i will never work out how to get the last post lol

Mumble - ooohhh you are on your way too!!!

THERE's gonna be more BABIES SOON!! how very exciting!!

on the Pooh front, i'm tigger all bounce no brain

Babypringle - Congratulations!!!! and big welcomes to lil Oscar!! xx

Puzzle - leave your beaver alone woman

I WAN MY BABY OUT NOW!!!!!

kazkiss · 17/03/2009 19:30

I know the nurse said that babies dont usually start bottle feeding till they are 36 weeks (izzie and ollie are 35+1) cos they cant co-ordinate the sucking, swallowing, breathing reflex. So they are doing really well. Hopefully babies will be home by 37 weeks gest.

Juwesm · 17/03/2009 19:31

BB - your DH sounds brilliant! Please send him round if he runs out of stuff to do there. I am in a bit of a mood with mine as he hasn't even sent me a message to see how I am today, and is off playing poker. I'm such a whingy wifey!

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 17/03/2009 19:33

Mothers day ...... well hopefully i will be getting a huge present from dh for being an incubator and i would be more than happy for a homemade card from dd (though she does do me a card virtually every day bless her lil cottons either a "love you card" or a "feel better card"

BB - awww well done to your dh bless him.

Juwesm · 17/03/2009 19:34

Nutty - check the old thread - last time I looked Puzzle had snuck in there! I can't work out how they do it either! And I really feel like I'm being a huge thickie as Boff says if you think about it you\ll work it out!

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 17/03/2009 19:34

Kaz - oohhh glad your LO's are doing really well and that you can have them home in 2 weeks YAY!!

BabyBolat · 17/03/2009 19:37

Nutty I am more a tigger too, bound in all full of energy and then leave a wrath of chaos in my wake - although right now I feel a bit more like a heffalump!

kaz look at you and your advanced babies - they are going to be little geniuses (sp??)

LOl at beavering -

Do you think if we all went to a hospital together and demanded our babies out they would agree???

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 17/03/2009 19:39

BB - worth a try!!! shall we have a go ??

BabyBolat · 17/03/2009 19:40

Not sure why I got 2 posts there!!!

Juw I can't work it out either!!

LuLuBai · 17/03/2009 19:40

Sounds bliss BB.

I've just managed to get DD to sleep before 7:30 which is exciting in itself. And even better, I have just treated myself to a GU chocolate trifle. OMG that was indulgent.

DH is staying in W. Brom tonight and tomorrow so I am thinking I ought to make use of the evening by finishing off some knitting or some house cleaning, but I think I might retire early to bed with a RLT and a magazine.

As for mother's day - well I had been dropping heavy hints about wanting to be taken away somewhere and pampered (to make up for the lack of even a card for Val's day !) but it looks like we will actually be doing house stuff (surprise!). We are going to spend the weekend there getting it ready - assembling beds, cots, fitting stairgates, finding moses basket and sling and car seat etc. And then next week will be my last in the west country while I clear out down here and finally move back home by the end of March. Yippeee

BabyBolat · 17/03/2009 19:41

I think we should - attack of the fanjo warriors - decline us if you dare!!!

mumblemumhome4lunch · 17/03/2009 19:43

Eveing all.

Thanks to everyone for the toddler medicine advice. Have had a quick catch up so hopefully haven't missed anything.

I have been a bit sucesseful today

  1. now have stronger prescription so only have to get 2.5ml in rather than 5ml - the GP/pharmacy were great about it and I had it within an hour of calling them.
  2. got this mornings dose in using fake medicine for everyone else and lots of choc drops (DS loved this)

Unfortunately further attempts all met with faliure so now definately on the forceful approach.

Bugger me a two yr old can't half be strong, and by god they can struggle like nothing on earth . need to nail an exact technique that fits round the bump and doesn't bugger my back too much.

Frekkles advice was v.good, and Boffs (and someone else said same too I think ?) about pinching nose. Big problem developing with DS who is starting to get very distressed with me bodily restraining her and the level of her distress and just wants to come over whilst I'm trying to do this and stroke her cheek/sing to her. Just makes you feel doubly bad.

But at least she's had some.
We'll get there.

Will also admit to having some very hefty BH contractions/pain during the struggling/restraining..........what with my show this morning, who knows maybe I'll be able to hand this chore over to DH before too long

Schulte · 17/03/2009 19:44

Maybe it's something to do with leaving windows open with the thread on? I feel really stupid for not being able to work it out.

Felt like LO had turned into breech position earlier - really can't work out what is what at the moment but there was a hard round bit at the top of my bump, and I keep being kicked in the side. Hiccups still happening down below though so hopefully all good.

Great news about the Twinkies Kaz! Enjoy your sleep while you still can before you take them home though

What's for dinner then?
