Thanks to Nutty for all the thread suggestions including this one. I hope no one minds but I picked this one in honour of the brilliant race commentary we had from Nuts and Frekkles the other night. Hopefully we will get some more.

Electra we have (I think) decided on Alara if it is a girl (with a couple of alternatives if she just doesn't suit it) but we fight non-stop about boys names - am like Lulu, there are names I think are ok and would be willing to shortlist but nothing that I can imagine calling my little boy and DH's suggestions fill me with dread although he has his heart set on them!!

BabyBolat · 17/03/2009 17:22

Boffin, well the stiffen lets say I never have particularly pointy nips! - they are not inverted - just a little bump rather than anything substantial to suck on!!

Schulte · 17/03/2009 17:25

BB you can try nipple shields - apparently if you put them on at the start of a feed, your nipples get in to the right shape then you take them off. Also very useful for sore and cracked nipples. You can buy them at Mothercare or Boots.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 17/03/2009 17:29

the nipple bit isn't that important though. it's breast feeding, not nipple feeding. the baby gets quite a lot of breast in the mouth and the nipple isn't really touched IYSWIM.

Juwesm · 17/03/2009 17:29

BB - Our breastfeeding counsellor likes to emphasise that it's breast feeding not nipple feeding - doesn't matter so much about the pointy bit - they just need to be able to get a nice mouthful of boob!

BoffinMum · 17/03/2009 17:29

Yes BB but the baby doesn't actually suck on the nipple, it chomps away at the area around the nipple. The nipple happens to be coincidental to the proceedings and is supposed to be right back where the baby's soft palate is.

I reckon you'll be OK.

Juwesm · 17/03/2009 17:29

OOOH - big x-post - sorry!

BoffinMum · 17/03/2009 17:30

xposts Juwes! Great minds!

Juwesm · 17/03/2009 17:30

Think we've made that last point clear then!!

BoffinMum · 17/03/2009 17:32

Nips ahoy!

LuLuBai · 17/03/2009 17:32
  • was just coming on to explain to BB that a much wider area than the nipple is used for feeding, but everyone's beat me to it!

BB - when I was pregnant first time I read a few books on breastfeeding so as to be prepared. I seem to remember 'what to expect when you are breastfeeding' being pretty helpful.

BabyBolat · 17/03/2009 17:34

Thanks all - my nips feel very reassured!!!

BabyBolat · 17/03/2009 17:35

I've got a friend coming round tonight and the mw tomorrow - I should really get off the sofa and clean the dishes and run around with the hoover shouldn't I???

LuLuBai · 17/03/2009 17:36

Glad we have soothed your nipples.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 17/03/2009 17:36

aren't you lucky that we are such know it alls so knowledgable!!

BoffinMum · 17/03/2009 17:36

This book is great and has ace illustrations that really helped me 1p on Amazon

LuLuBai · 17/03/2009 17:37

I think you need to clean the dishes, but I'm sure the hoovering can wait. They are heavy and possibly best left to DH. That leaning over with a full-size bump can be bad for your back (at least that is what my DH is led to believe )

BoffinMum · 17/03/2009 17:38

I have just made a discovery. If you do two Tesco orders a week then you are never faced with an empty fridge and a dearth of dishwasher tablets.

BabyBolat · 17/03/2009 17:39

good call lulu and that will only take 15 minutes so i have plenty of time for MNing and a bath before hand!!

BoffinMum · 17/03/2009 17:39

I am quite relieved BB is slobbing out like the rest of us, and has stopped signing her posts 'Yours sincerely, Della'.

bronze · 17/03/2009 17:41

2 a week? I do one a month
I do get other bits from other places in between though. I'm a slut but not so much of a slattern we live on frozen meals all the time. (she says cooking fish fingers waffles and beans for the kids.

BoffinMum · 17/03/2009 17:45

We are a massive household, it has to be said. With hangers on.

BabyBolat · 17/03/2009 17:45

haha Boff!

I genuinely have to say that while I think I would be bored if I wasn't working IF i do this pregnancy malarky again I will definitely take more time off before it is due as I truly am very very very tired! I also feel like I could really benefit from being a bit more active in these last stages like walking a bit each day etc!

lesson definitely learnt - still only 8 more work days!!!

bronze · 17/03/2009 17:49

I guess you have an extra adult in the form of 'mademoiselle I can't do as I'm asked' and yours are older. you have rubbed in what our food bills are going to be like though

LuLuBai · 17/03/2009 18:06

I haven't got into supermarket deliveries yet, but I do tend to do a couple of shops a week. That way I always have things like fresh bananas and salad (I'm really particular about my bananas!) and it also means I can do one shop at a cheap shop (e.g. Asda) and stock up on household cleaning products and one shop at a more luxurious place like Waitrose where I get cheeses, hams etc.
