Right then, I can't stand the mad scrolling any more so I'm starting a new thread.

Hope you feel better today, fashill. Hugs. Don't worry about the stretchmarks. Wear them with pride as my last midwife told me...

Saw a midwife yesterday. Yet again a new one! On the upside, she said that what I experienced last week was probably pre-labour and that she doesn't expect me to go full-term! Wahey! Knowing my luck, I'll still be here at 42 weeks though. Feeling much more positive now generally.

Tinker! I am so . I don't even have a phone number for my midwife. The thought of one actually coming round to the house before the baby is born is incredible! Jealous of the growth scan too. My GP and midwives seem to make up the measurements to fit the chart. Last time she said 35cm. When I looked at the notes later on she'd written 36cm. Hmmm.

Sorry Tinker, meant to say - good luck with scan and also very impressed with midwife attendance at 15 mins notice when no labour signs. Hope you're feeling ok. It must have thrown you a bit to have a show. I didnt have one last time either. Re growth scan - I dont think my midwife has even looked at a chart, logic - she just keeps saying everything is fine so hopefully they know just by feeling. Im always amazed at how quickly she can tell me exactly what position babe is in - you know facing what way etc. I feel envious that yours has engaged. At least then you know the little rascal is planning an escape at some point!!

WideWebWitch · 23/04/2005 19:17

Oh Tinker, have you had a show? Is it imminent? I was thinking of you today and thinking it must be. I hope all was well with the scan.

WideWebWitch · 23/04/2005 19:19

OK, just scrolled down and you're 38 weeks, sorry! Don't worry about neighbours, I live in a terraced house and neighbours both sides swear they didn't hear a thing. Hmm, think they were being polite!

logic · 23/04/2005 19:58

Just want to say good luck with the growth scan, Tinker...

Hi Tab, I hope that my GP can confirm that the baby is engaged on Wednesday! It's made my back pain so much better anyway.

Is anyone else checking for a show every time they go to the loo?

OP posts:
hollya · 23/04/2005 20:12

logic i have been checking for a show every time i go to the loo (which is about 564 times a day!) and it sounds a bit disgusting, but every time i feel a bit damp i am convinced my waters have broken. alas they haven't.

both dp and my mum had dreams that the baby was gonna come today, so have been on edge all day. no luck unfortunately. if this baby doesn't come soon i'm going to go insane.

northstar · 23/04/2005 21:10

Same as that, keep thinking/hoping/checking for some kind of sign. Imagining my dribble of wee is waters
Oh and talking about dribbles, anyone managing to fill a sample bottle still? I caught a few of the above dribbles, but it seems to be impossible to catch a whole wee in one of those blasted things. I was apologising for the tiny amount to the nurse and she just laughed and said they were obviously designed by MEN!

northstar · 23/04/2005 21:45

Just noticed the start of a Due Jan 06 thread Thats NEXT YEAR We are so lucky it's nearly over.

Tinker · 23/04/2005 22:06

Oo, sorry for panicking you all. Didn't have a show, she just rang because she wanted to have a chat about the birth/labour etc. But did look on my notes when she had gone and she had written 1/5 engaged. Which is engaged isn't it? . Thought that didn't happen til near the end with non-first babies??

Hi www. They've very pushy, almost (in a nice way) here about home birth. Maybe for stats purposes, don't know but keep telling me I can have one at any time. So, still on the "thinking about it" agenda. Thank god we have actually finished decorating our room.

Good luck everyone else. Does all feel rather close now doesn't it??

cab · 23/04/2005 22:15

Northstar know exactly what you mean re the samples, even tho' the loo has become my new home.
Done a bit of research and they reckon real labour can be up to THREE weeks after the show. There was me thinking it meant sooner rather than later. Oh well it got me moving. But definitely no sex, curries or pineapples for me yet!

northstar · 23/04/2005 22:43

I bought a chocolate and pineapple cake for dp's birthday tomorrow - does that count

WideWebWitch · 24/04/2005 07:35

Tinks, dd didn't engage at all.

logic · 24/04/2005 07:36

Glad it's not just me then. I had a whole night with no contractions so I am in a really good mood despite being up with ds since 4am.

OP posts:
Brighteyes · 24/04/2005 10:04

Tinker good luck with the scan.

Logic and Cab seems you may have a bit longer to wait after all then. Like everyone else, I keep thinking every twinge is the start. Definatly no pineapple or curries for me though, I've still got far to much to do before baby arrives.

Oh and just for some reassurance for all you other first timers - I was telling my nephew yesterday how much it will hurt when I have the baby and he assured me in his wisdom that it couldn't hurt more than vinegar in a papercut. Hope hes right, think I could cope with that

logic · 24/04/2005 10:19

Vinegar in a papercut? Aw bless. I wish too!

OP posts:
SamCattie · 25/04/2005 08:16

Gosh what a scare I have had!!!! contractions every half hour thurs and fri. I have been off work but back now. Decided to call midwife on sat if pains were still there as they were getting more intense, but they have now died away..... I thought I was going to be the first!!!

cab · 25/04/2005 08:32

Wow SamCattie - when are you due? Was it like vinegar in a papercut? That's my kinda birth.

logic · 25/04/2005 08:49

That must have been exciting, SamCattie! There's a lot of false labour about atm.

I'm 38 weeks today! It can't be long now surely?

OP posts:
fisil · 25/04/2005 09:24

Due tomorrow, due tomorrow, la la la I'm due tomorrow! (although at this stage with ds I still had 12 days of waiting!)

uwila · 25/04/2005 09:32

Oh how depressing, I have 5 more weeks until due date...

But ever so happy for you Fisil (and for the rest of you who are getting hints of labour starting). Wow, so exciting.

For other second timers, do you think it's as exciting as it was the first time?

fisil · 25/04/2005 09:36

Sorry uwila, didn't mean to depress. And anyway, you could still (just) fit in a non-prem baby before me!

The excitement has only just kicked in, if you can call it that. I think "reality" would be a better way of putting it. DP and I keep saying "at some point in the next two weeks we'll have another baby" and then just sort of sitting there saying "oooh" and "oh"!

Tinker · 25/04/2005 09:40

Not sure I'd call it excitement, more panic. Was shown round the hospital last night - our personal guided tour. Have to say, it has improved immensely from 8 years ago, loads of empty private rooms available, think I woudl actaully quite enjoy being there! But still dithering about whether to have a home birth though. Decisions.

logic · 25/04/2005 09:51

I think that fisil is right, the reality is hitting us. It's not just pregnancy any more, we are going to have a baby in a couple of weeks. Eek! I've been thinking about a home birth lately, Tinker. Mostly motivated by the fact that I am too tired to contemplate the rush to hospital. Just want to stay in bed. Probably too late to arrange it though. Dh has reread the section on delivering the baby himself in an emergency!

OP posts:
Tinker · 25/04/2005 09:53

logic - I can deceide on a homebirth pretty much up to delivery. Am sure they'd prefer me to decide now but pretty much all options are being left to me. I'd still ask if you wanted one.

claudi2 · 25/04/2005 09:56

I'm in a panic, spend the weekend doing paperwork, and making lists of all the things I still have to do like stock up the freezer ( is that considered nesting too? or does only cleaning count) and thinking I have not done enough perineal massage
