Right then, I can't stand the mad scrolling any more so I'm starting a new thread.

Hope you feel better today, fashill. Hugs. Don't worry about the stretchmarks. Wear them with pride as my last midwife told me...

Saw a midwife yesterday. Yet again a new one! On the upside, she said that what I experienced last week was probably pre-labour and that she doesn't expect me to go full-term! Wahey! Knowing my luck, I'll still be here at 42 weeks though. Feeling much more positive now generally.

I like the comments re home birth and neighbours. I live in an old terraced house, walls over a foot thick, and saw neighbour yesterday (don't know them very well, just say 'hello etc')who said he hoped the baby wouldn't keep him awake crying at night - like we're going to encourage it, anyway, maybe I'll have to tell him I'm planning a homebirth! Could even say I'm planning it in the garden - he knows how much I love the garden and gardening! I would like the idea of a homebirth if I have more children but for my first I'd rather go to a hospital.
Its so exciting that some of us are getting close!I'm hoping mine will hang on a bit, I finish work at the end of this week (37 weeks) and would like a week before it comes to sort out a few things at home! I expect it will be late though!

logic · 25/04/2005 10:25

I could ask for a homebirth, Tinker, but we have already been warned that there is a good chance that I will be asked to come into hospital at the last minute if they are short staffed. Like that's going to happen! Basically, I'm not sure that I want to risk being in full labour and not knowing if a midwife is going to bother to turn up! It's really unfair for them to put me in that situation I think. Antenatal care has got shockingly bad around here. I'm considering talking to my GP about it on Wednesday before I put in a complaint to the QA Manager.

It was very quiet here today, we must all be busy nesting and having ante-natal appointments. I had a hospital appointment today, consultant says baby well down and ready to go Must put a waterproof mattress protector on the bed tomorrow (it's in ds's room somewhere, I dont want to go in there tonight and start searching).
Hope everyone's ok.

logic · 26/04/2005 07:07

You must be so pleased that the baby is ready, northstar! I've got my next ante-natal appt. tomorrow. Going to try and assemble ds's present from the baby tomorrow too when he isn't here...

Maddison · 26/04/2005 09:17

My next antenatal appointment is on Thursday afternoon, feels like I'm never away from the place now

We got DS a new bike yesterday which apparently DH's colleagues put together while he was out (?) so we gave it to him last night, I'm glad to say he's very pleased with it!!

claudi2 · 26/04/2005 09:23

Good morning everybody ...hope things are well. How are you this morning fis??
Tinker, glad I'm not the only one . Had to go to the local health centre yesterday due to ketones in urine ... had a look around the maternity, which is just a midwives unit ... 4 rooms, all single, all empty ...would almost be like a homebirth think it would be so much nicer than going into city, and being 6 to a room ... but I have StrepB and midwives unit are not really equipped for anything in case it goes pear shaped ...so lots of decisions. I ordered a StrepB test and hope the results will come before I give birth. It would make decisions easier

Hi, still with you. Feels like only just, though. Had contractions all evening, but managed to get off to sleep - for two hours. So I started timing them - had about 6 between 2:30 and 3:30. But they're ever so erratic - not regular at all, some I can hardly feel, some really hurt! Got GP appt this pm so will find out more then. Otherwise sent dp off to work and am just taking it easy - and certainly not going for that job interview! The head just rang, and they're virtually begging for me, but I can't get my head round it all right now!

So seems really imminent, but I'll probably still be saying that 10 days from now! Off to run up and down the stairs a bit!

northstar · 26/04/2005 10:50

Well, my news is that I am going to be induced next tuesday evening,03/05 so unless baby decides to come beforehand it will be here 04 or 05th
I am choosing not to have a ceasarian, unless of course it is recommended, but I am SO apprehensive now. I just know it's going to hurt. I had a strong epidural with ds and felt nothing whatsoever, but this time I'm going to try to do without one. One thing they did say was that second babies come much quicker than first, so not to delay too much getting to the hospital. Good luck to everyone for the week, April is nearly over now!

fisil · 26/04/2005 10:53

that's so exciting northstar! I'd love to have a D-Day in my diary!

Lua · 26/04/2005 10:54

Hi Northstar! Hi everybody else! How exciting is getting here!
Crashing your thread to wish Northstar a speedy deliver and lots of chocolate, bread and everything else for after bubba arrives! Lucky you the end is in sight!
Hopefully I'll join you in excitement soon!

northstar · 26/04/2005 11:13

Thanx lua. They are inducing me just in case the baby gets too big, but at the moment there is no immediate concern. I hope you are being looked after, and baba is growing nicely (and not hugely).
Myermay DONT BUY ANY MORE MATERNITY CLOTHES. Live in loose stuff(if there's such a thing at this stage) have you seen the gorgeous normal spring and summer clothes in the shops at the moment? Save your money and your shopping for after baba comes, you will have such a lovely time shopping for you both Who needs those ugly fat clothes when we're Due In May!!!
But I do agree, all mine are too tight and uncomfortable as well

cab · 26/04/2005 11:28

Morning all. Life really is getting exciting now. Cannot believe you are due TODAY Fisil - wow. Will be thinking of you - any more contractions yet?
Northstar you lucky person having a definite deadline - bet I'll go over.
Claudia what happened with the ketones? If you land up at Aberdeen could they not then transfer you to the local unit? I'm certainly hoping for my local one too - at least I've met the midwives there.
Myermay know what you mean re the clothes - I'm pinching dh's big baggy T-shirts and wee sis has just returned my old incredibly comfy maternity troos - bliss. Also bought somw huge snoopy jammies yesterday from M&S for slobbing in. Wonderful. Yesterday was expensive - finally ordered the pram, went shopping for last few bits, bought Woolworths out of toys for various parties dd got coming up. Ordered everything else that I had forgotten from mothercare this a.m. - including my giant size nursing bras which M&S etc didn't have in stock. Also organised a firm to come in and clean carpets after my decorating spree and am trying to get hold of a cleaning company to do me a spring clean cos I just don't have the bottle. Got some gorgeous wee towels with ducks on them from BHS.

northstar · 26/04/2005 11:39

wow cab sounds like you sure had a shopping spree I bet it was great fun. I've just checked the calender for may birthdays (not too bad and none near my expected)
I'm going to buy ds's present from baby this afternoon and a nice selection of blank cards that I can have at home to send to people as required. I'm also going to buy one of those sausage thingys for keeping babys head supported in the car seat. Wish I knew what colour to get.

Hi Northstar, lucky you not having many birthdays in May!

On the otherhand I have loads of May b'days so it doesn't matter when my babs is born it will be very close (or on) one of my family members birthdays!!

northstar · 26/04/2005 11:58

No myermay they didnt and I wasn't going to ask. I want to enjoy the weekend as much as possible and I'm afraid if I have tmi it will freak me out. Maybe I will ask on here on monday or tuesday morning
I have visions of scary medieval torture instruments already.

logic · 26/04/2005 12:07

It's all getting so close now! I have been running out of clothes too because I have one outfit and a nightie and a pair of PJs packed in the hospital bag. Ended up having to buy a normal nightie from asda in a big size yesterday.

myermay, I am really bad trouble sleeping too. I'm awake half the night with contractions that are almost labour strength. If I do get some sleep, I seem to have this internal 4am alarm clock going off. Ds is often up very early too. Unfortunately, I am disturbing dh so he is looking pretty haggard.

Been on a half mile trek to the local shops this morning. Got to get this baby out!

I am so consumed with looking after ds and the baby that I actually forgot that it's MY birthday next week!! How sad is that. I noticed that it was pencilled in on the calendar...

i am going to go on a little walk to my local shop in a minute, my local shop however is a marks and spencer superstore and it will take me about an hour to get there! is it true you get free stuff if your waters break in m&s?
i don't know what i'm going to wear, i have one pair of jeans and they don't do up anymore. everything else i own refuses to even go over my big fat bum! why my bum has grown i have no idea!

logic · 26/04/2005 14:23

It's not fair is it, hollya? I've just had to raid my hospital bag for clothes because a friend is coming round to visit.

Logic it would be lovely if you have the baby on your birthday.

My sister was born on my mothers birthday, 21st of May, they now hoping that I will go over my due date so the baby will be born on their birthday.

Maddison · 26/04/2005 15:39

Ditto Brighteyes, my mothers birthday (and her partners)is 21st May, she would love it if this one was born then but TBH I don't think theres much chance of that, theres not much room for little fella now!
