Right then, I can't stand the mad scrolling any more so I'm starting a new thread.

Hope you feel better today, fashill. Hugs. Don't worry about the stretchmarks. Wear them with pride as my last midwife told me...

Saw a midwife yesterday. Yet again a new one! On the upside, she said that what I experienced last week was probably pre-labour and that she doesn't expect me to go full-term! Wahey! Knowing my luck, I'll still be here at 42 weeks though. Feeling much more positive now generally.

LOL fisil YES IT IS! I am actually sitting here justifying being on mn and ignoring the housework because the dishwasher is on, therefore i am getting something done but........ my worst ever notion was when I saw how dirty my microwave is I went out and priced new ones

uwila · 22/04/2005 10:56

I must admit (please don't kill me) we don't get stretch marks in my family. But, my skin does get dry and itchy, and I've discovered that I really like DD's oilatum jr. So, I've pinched it. It's lovely. I use it on bump, legs, bum, and feet. I also like Nivea Creme (comes in a blue tub).

myermay - try www.tens.co.uk - the Neurotrac Labour machine is only £23.95 for 7 weeks hire plus this can be extended for free! You enter your due date and they dispatch it 1 month before the date that you enter (a bit earlier than the others you mentioned). You get reusable electrodes, so you can work out how the machine works beforehand, plus 2 batteries. You get a free return postage label too. I actually bought a machine from them, because it doesn't cost much more than hiring really, and I might want to use it for future pregnancies, otherwise I'll sell it on eBay and it will still have cost me less overall than hiring. Plus I've had it here ready for weeks! Might be an option for you? By the way mine arrived the very next day. Hope that helps.

fashill · 22/04/2005 11:26

You're lucky Uwila!! I've got dark skin due to my oriental origin so all our girls get them!! Real pain but hey ho. DP says if they really make me depressed he'll pay for laser surgery for me!! Think I'd be too scared to have that done though

Wish I knew that before Maymum!

logic · 22/04/2005 11:27

I would definately try and get a TENS machine as soon as possible. I am already using mine on a daily basis. Had a night from hell. Pre-labour contractions so bad that I couldn't lie down and my back was exploding. Yet again, it all stopped before morning. How much longer can this go on for? Sorry, needed a rant.

maymum · 22/04/2005 11:35

logic sorry to hear yu're having a tough time - thank goodness for the TENS machine - I guess it is helping you? I didn't know you could use it this early. I want to test mine & get to know how it works, even though I'm not having pains yet. I'm 35w4d, is it too early for me to try?

Oh, and I've got lots of little stretch marks now - mostly just at the end of my silvery teenage ones on my hips & thighs - the tips are opening up & are bright purple. Also have shadowy areas either side under my belly button & convinced they are stretch marks waiting to happen! My mum didn't have any during pregnancy so I thought I might escape. Wishful thinking maybe, seeing as I've put on 3st already

northstar · 22/04/2005 11:38

Talking about putting on weight, just how much have you all put on? I have put on 2 stone and was really shocked, it feels like about 4. Did the non-first timers put on less or more than last time?

tab · 22/04/2005 11:44

Hallo, Im a little late in joining this thread and I apologise as I havent read all the way down! Now 35 weeks waiting for ds2 . Ds1 is 2 and 9 months and Im finding it really tiring bending down and picking him up, lifting him into car etc! On the loo all the time, achey and uncomfortable - am hoping that ds2 comes a week early as people keep suggesting he might. HOping for a homebirth - is anybody else? Midwife is supportive but I feel a bit alone. Went to lewisham hospital for antenatal class and it seemed that nobody else was even interested in the idea. Hated going to hosp last time. However, will have to wait until 37 weeks when midwife will tell me yes or know. just found out that babies second time around dont engage til last minute. with ds1 he was in place by now and I was really waddling!!

uwila · 22/04/2005 11:46

Hey, just an idea but I wonder if you could post an enquiry on the March and April boards to see if someone has a tens machnie which they are finished with?

tab · 22/04/2005 11:47

Hi northstar. I havent been weighing myself second time around but I think its probably about 3 stone at 35 weeks! Having said that I dont look as big as last time whichi is weird and I dont think that Ive been eating quite as much cake etc as last time. First time around I really indulged myself but with dsno1 to look after this time - I havent had such an opportunity. I wouldnt worry about the weight. My midwife weighed me at teh begining but hasnt since .

logic · 22/04/2005 11:52

Hi Maymum, my TENS has a back pain setting so I'm using that. There are special back pain electrodes with it that are a different shape to the labour ones so it's never too early to use it!

I have put on 2 stone too, a lot less than last time, probably because of the running after toddler thing. Last time I just sat on the sofa for 9 months eating cake.

northstar · 22/04/2005 11:55

Hi tab and welcome My ds climbs in and out of everything now, it's great. I even pull a chair over to the high chair and he climbs into that which is a life-saver. Midwife said baba's head down and ready to go when I saw here this week, so I'm presuming that means it's engaged. I am waddling big time!

maymum · 22/04/2005 11:58

logic - 9 months on the sofa eating cake!!! I wish I could say that my 3st was due to indulgence too, but I have been quite good really...

tab · 22/04/2005 12:02

Hi northstar. How old is your ds? Mine is quite naughty at the moment so sometimes I have to lift him to make sure that his destination is actually his car seat etc!!
I think you're a week ahead of me. You must be feeling a bit uncomfortable if babe has engaged. Its a really weird feeling I seem to remember and makes walking around difficult. Hopefully not too long to go though.
Im going downstairs to graze in the kitchen but will catch up later.

northstar · 22/04/2005 12:04

Ds 3 last week. Oooops, time to collect from playschool.... at least the dishwasher has washed the dishes, which is more than i've done all morning

fashill · 22/04/2005 12:21

Put on just under 2 stone at 35 wks. Do you normally put much more on from now?!? I know that's not too much really but when I bend down I can really feel how fat my thighs have got!

Brighteyes · 22/04/2005 12:30

Uwila, you poor thing, you must be feeling so stressed at the moment. If I was in your situation I would be demanding a c-section early not begging (ok thats a lie, I'm a big coward and never stand up for myself against the medical profession).

I havedecided to call my midwife though and ask her to see me next week instead of the week after. I'm so big I can't keep any food down and the baby is jammed so far into my lungs I cant walk up the stairs without needed a lie die when I get up there (sorry whinge over)

Weezle I'm so excited for you that you've been given a date, well maybe excited is the wrong word and I'm actually green with envy

Hi Tab and welcome.

As for weight gain, I've put on 2 stone but lost half a stone due to the morning sickness so only one and half stone gain overall.

Tinker · 22/04/2005 12:35

tab - I was thinking of a homebirth. Still pondering and midwives vey supportive of idea. What's put me off is the paper thinness of our walls. Don't excatly relish teh idea of teh neighbours sharing my birth experience.

LittleB · 22/04/2005 12:36

Do you think its worth getting a TENS beforehand, I was just going to wait until I'm in labour and use the hospitals. I've got a bit of back pain, but its not too bad so I don't think I need anything for it yet, I'm 36weeks, the main pain I've got is in my ribs where baby's bum is, very sore patch, burns and aches is itchy and numb in the middle, quite strange feeling!
I've put on 1 1/2 stone so far, but I have been pretty active through my job and I'm quite small. Some people keep commenting on how huge I am and others seem to think I'm very small and neat, I feel big to me though!
I'm sure my baby will be late, does anyone know how late they let you go - I was 12 days and late and my baby is due on 19th May - should I be popping on to the due in June thread! - I hope not, although i don't want to be induced.
I do feel for you who've already got kids, it must be hard work looking after them while this pregnant. I'm thinking 1 may be just fine .
I've been speaking to various friends and family about transport when I go into labour, DP only has a motorbike, so I'm not going on that! and I'm not driving myself, I think I should be covered though, although I would feel bad about getting them up if I need to go in in the night, no night taxis in our area though - countryside for you

fashill · 22/04/2005 12:47

Don't quote me on this LittleB but I don't think hosptals have TENS machines. They normally let you go to 42 wks as the placenta basically starts to stop working around then

LittleB · 22/04/2005 13:08

My local hospital does have TENS available, I asked at an ante-natal class, they've got 9 available, they say you should hire one to guarantee having one available, but they only deliver an average of 2-3 babies per day so I'm hoping that there should be one.
42 weeks OMG! So I could have it in June!

I think it is worth getting a tens machine (if you are planning to go through labour) because it takes a long time to build up and work effectively, so you want to put it on as soon as contractions start and not wait until you arrive at the hospital.

AH, motorbike. Well, presumably he could get you there faster. What a great story you would have to tell later.

Oh and I don't think Taxis are an issue for anyone. I've hear some will refuse you a ride because they don't want you making a mess in their taxi -- gross, can't blame them really. If I thought a taxi was an option I wouldn't be quite so worried.

fashill · 22/04/2005 15:18

Uwila - my friend had a baby at Kingston and got a Taxi there and back she also got the same driver as he wanted to see the baby after taking her in!! So I could get a number for the cab co if you like
