Right then, I can't stand the mad scrolling any more so I'm starting a new thread.

Hope you feel better today, fashill. Hugs. Don't worry about the stretchmarks. Wear them with pride as my last midwife told me...

Saw a midwife yesterday. Yet again a new one! On the upside, she said that what I experienced last week was probably pre-labour and that she doesn't expect me to go full-term! Wahey! Knowing my luck, I'll still be here at 42 weeks though. Feeling much more positive now generally.

I'm part of the late-April crowd dipping in as I am getting a sinking feeling that I will be late. 7 days to EDD but no signs yet of impending labour. No false labours, no bh, no backpain or periody cramps. Didn't think I would ever be worried about NOT feeling uncomfortable.

But I am still uncomfortable. Been suffering oedema from 26 wks and now I have legs like tree trunks and can just hobble around a bit. Never thought I could get so sick of lying around with my feet up.

fisil · 17/04/2005 12:23

Hi alux - I'm 9 days to go, so should be on the April thread, but I've always been convinced I'll be late!

oh myermay, make sure you put your feet up tonight!

logic · 17/04/2005 20:16

Welcome Alux!

It's all the walking, myermay. It really kicks starts the pains. I would have a nice warm bath and some paracetamol. My midwife seems to think that I won't make full-term. She also said that Heatherwood will accept me at 37 wks which is in 4 hours time. Somehow I think I'll make it

How often is everyone feeling kicks? I've felt less today than usual. But I think that somewhere around 34 weeks (which I am today) they slow down on the kicks simply because they are running out of room. Is this true? It could also just be that I've bbeen running around today and perhaps didn't notice them as much as I would when I'm sitting at my desk at work.

I heard you should feel 10 a day? Doea anyone know if this is right?

logic · 17/04/2005 21:31

Uwila, I've been feeling kicks less often and the baby seems to be hurting me less than she was. Apparently it is quite normal because they don't have as much room to move about in and by now they should be preparing for the birth.

OP posts:
fisil · 17/04/2005 21:43

I had a short while a few weeks back with less kicks. They are now (nearly 39 weeks) very obvious and deliberate, much slower than before, but can actually feel the heel, leg etc!

fisil · 17/04/2005 21:43

Oh, and we have little fights. I folded my arms over my bump this morning, and received a series of kicks, as if to see "my territory, bugger off"

logic · 18/04/2005 04:34

Anyone else wide awake at 4:30am? No? Just me then

Bought a lovely disney ("little roo") blanket and outfit today due to sudden guilt trip about not having bought new clothes for the baby given that I emptied the shops for ds

uwila I am 34 weeks now and the other day I hardly felt my baby move at all. As opposed to all day! I went to the hospital feeling rather silly and they put me on a monitor. Although I couldn't feel any movement, they heard a steady heartbeat. They also suggested keeping a kick chart. The midwife informed me that we should be feeling about 10 movements every 12 hours. The very next day, my baby certainly made up for scaring me as she then moved non stop. So don't worry

SamCattie · 18/04/2005 08:23

Just reading back to see that a lot of people are feeling hiccups from their baby. PRobably sounds a silly question, but how do you know?

Weezle · 18/04/2005 08:45

It feels like the whole bump jumps slightly, and it happens in a regular pattern - at least thats what happens for me and I've been assuming its hiccups!

Brighteyes - how are things going for you? Sorry for being a bit behind the times but I haven't logged on for a few days. We've spent the last week or so thinking about c-sections as junior is still breech and is resisting all our efforts to turn her.... so it looks like we'll be off for a c-section next week sometime .

I found the idea really upsetting at first but have been doing some reading and speaking to other people at my ante-natal class, and I'm now feeling a lot more positive about it. As people have said, the main thing is to get junior out safely, and also it means that i don't have so long to wait until she arrives

Brighteyes · 18/04/2005 09:45

Hi Weezle.

Have really come to terms with the idea of a c-section now. Although I know its not the easiest route I think there are plenty of pros, especially having the baby a couple of weeks early.

I have an hospital appointment tomorrow to decide what the game plan is going to be. Since my blood pressure is still high, the baby continues to get bigger by the day and they have now found glucose and blood in my urine I think they will encourage the c-section.

To be honest now I've got my head around the idea I think I will be rather disappointed if they decide not to go through with the c-section.
I think if I did attempt a natural birth I would only end up with an emergency c-section anyway, like my mum and both my sisters had to endure because of the size of their babies (babies were only 6lb-7lb but my family are all really small).

Best of luck to you Weezle. Scary to think that babies will be arriving as early as next week. Have they given you a date yet?

Think I would have to take a large suitcase in for a 5 day stay though, my weekend bag I packed for an overnight stay is bulging at the seams and I've only packed the "essentials".

northstar · 18/04/2005 10:26

Just popping in to say hello and catch up after the weekend, I have hours of housework ahead of me. I did the fashion show on friday it was fine and all the other mums were really supportive.
Every time I log in I half expect to read that one of us has had their baby, wont be long now....
I'm upset today as my gp committed suicide at the weekend

logic · 18/04/2005 10:59

SamCattie, don't feel silly about going to the hospital when the baby doesn't move! I did it a couple of months ago. It's far better for both of you to put your mind at rest.

That would be really depressing, northstar

Had a bad baby dream last night. Dreamt that I had a baby girl and left her in the wardrobe by mistake while I went out for the day! The wardrobe fgs!? What was that about?

uwila · 18/04/2005 13:10

Went to GP for antenatal check today and heard bub's heartbeat. So, I'm reassured now.

On my! Your GP committed suicide? How shocking.

northstar · 18/04/2005 13:18

It's terrible isnt it. He was such a lovely man and a very good gp, he has looked after me for 14 years, (and my ds of course!) and has been there for my family for 30 or so years. I had such complete confidence in him and total respect for him. He was suffering with depression, it seems to be a common problem for gp's.
I was due to see him this morning for a check-up. I dont feel like trying to contact another surgery, as it was only a check-up. I have a hospital appointment next monday anyway so should be alright til then wouldn't you say? It has been 2wks since my last check up and im 36+4.

Brighteyes · 18/04/2005 13:30

Northstar thats so shocking about your GP. Like you've said though depression is very common in the profession doesn't make it any less upsetting mind. Think you should ring the clinic about your appointment and see what they suggest.

Hi Spilla welcome to the due in May thread. Certainly with you with fed up with all the waiting.

Just received notification from the hospital that my haemoglobin levels are low and I need to take iron tablets.

I swear that my body is rushing to get in as many symptoms/problems before I have this baby.

uwila · 18/04/2005 13:35

I think if you feel well, baby's moving, and haven't had any cause for concern by now, then you are fine to go until next Mon. In fact, afte 36 weeks, if I had any cause for concern, I'd be on the phone to the hospital/delivery suite anyway.

Will the surgery appoint yo ua new GP, or do you need to go find another one on your own. If you need to go find another one, it might be worth doing ASAP just because every one else who went to him will be doing the same. And you wouldn't want to find out that anywhere you want to be registered isn't taking new patients because they've just been flooded with other new patients.

Oh, but this is so sad. Seems so ironic that someone who dedicates his life to the health of other should end up taking his own life. Gosh, I don't blame you if you're not quite ready to run out and replace him.

northstar · 18/04/2005 13:37

Hi brighteyes, my hg levels were low too, 9.4 i think, and I had to have a series of iron injections from my gp, of which i had one, then never went back I am SO bad. I dont remember to take my iron tablets because it says on them to only take after a main meal and these days it seems that I never have a main meal, just lots of snacks. The tablets constipate me anyway. I'm not sure what the consequences of low iron are, apart from tiredness.

northstar · 18/04/2005 13:42

Thanx uwila, and yes I feel desperately sad for him and his family, after him dedicating his life to others. It was his practise, a small one in a small town, so I am presuming that it will be taken over in its entirety, will just have to wait and see for now.

Tinker · 18/04/2005 13:47

Read this thread about iron levels here You can see I have the opposite problem!
