Right then, I can't stand the mad scrolling any more so I'm starting a new thread.

Hope you feel better today, fashill. Hugs. Don't worry about the stretchmarks. Wear them with pride as my last midwife told me...

Saw a midwife yesterday. Yet again a new one! On the upside, she said that what I experienced last week was probably pre-labour and that she doesn't expect me to go full-term! Wahey! Knowing my luck, I'll still be here at 42 weeks though. Feeling much more positive now generally.

p.s, logic what day is your birthday? Just curious as my niece's is the 1st May and DH's is the 6th May

fisil · 26/04/2005 16:18

lol about your birthday, logic!

Just been for GP checkup - baby's head has popped out again, so I'm looking at a long wait. Bugger.

logic · 26/04/2005 17:01

Maddison, my birthday is the 7th and dh's is the 19th! I am betting that she will arrive on his birthday.

You never know, fisil, he might re-engage at any time! How long will they let you go before inducing?

It depends on the hospital. SOme induce at 41 weeks, others at 42 weeks. I was induced last time at 42 weeks, and to be honest I don't think it's a good idea to go that long. Somewhere around 42 weeks the placenta can start to deteriorate and the result is reduced oxygen to baby. I think that is much scarier than being induced. But, I should add that I think my view is in the minority. Lots of people think 42 weeks or even longer is just fine.

Sometimes if you don't go into labour there is a reason why. So if you get to 41 weeks it is time to talk to the consultant about possible reasons why you haven't gone into labour -- especially if this is not your first.

fisil · 26/04/2005 18:45

Yes, I have a hospital appointment for 41 weeks, and they'll set a date for induction then. Hopefully won't go that far ...

logic · 26/04/2005 18:56

I held a 17 day old baby today and it was lovely. He was so tiny and slept all afternoon.

Since I drop into this thread from time to time, I thought I'd let everyone know that baby Maya Georgina arrived 19 April at 10:51. She weighs 7lb 4oz ( 3.36kg) and is 20.5in (53cm) long. Mum and baby are fine.

already posted the details on the birth announcements thread

uwila · 26/04/2005 21:09

Well done alux!!!
How are you doing Fisil??

northstar · 27/04/2005 08:25

Congratulations alux
Wonder how Fisil is this morning?
I am just leaving to drop ds to playschool, found out yesterday it is closed all next week but only have to face 2 more days of all the mums chorusing "are you still here" every time i walk in AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH.

cab · 27/04/2005 08:54

Northstar I can't bear it any more either so have been getting dh to take dd to nursery as often as possible! Like today.

claudi2 · 27/04/2005 09:13

Well done alux, you must be glad to be home with Maya

Fisil, I'm not even going to ask,.... not long to go now

Cab, ketones were fine ...MW said I was probably just dehydrated, so I have taken logics advice and have bought myself bottles of flavoured water ... so much nicer than the bland stuff (probably because of the sugar).... did this huge shopping spree not bring on any contractions? ... and getting someone in to do the spring cleaning sounds great, but if you want to do it before baby arrives it doesnt give you much time .....aaaaargh.

A few weeks ago I was desperate to give birth and now I'm thinking, too much to do

cab · 27/04/2005 09:46

Claudia glad to hear the ketones are under control. Luckily the baby's staying put despite the shopping. Cleaning company are sending a whole crew tomorrow and carpets are Friday so reckon I should be safe enough. (Although can hardly walk with cramps today - but it aint contractions.)

claudi2 · 27/04/2005 10:00

Great cab, hang in there'cause you've got to let the cleaning crew in tomorrow ....cramps ... period pains? or just from walking around all the shops? anyway you can relax now ... as long as you have got a good supply of maternity pads

tab · 27/04/2005 10:23

Hallo everyone. Congratulations Alux and welcome to baby Maya. Thinking of you all that are almost there. Fisil and Logic - I was just checking the announcements list just in case. Cant be long now! Well Northstar, at least you've got a definite date. I dont feel organised this time. Ive got all the stuff but half of it needs washing and sorting.

Im definitely going for homebirth. Went to a workshop thing on Sunday and it was so reassuring and then I went round the hospital yesterday and I just thought - yes, all being well (and I know that's no guarantee) Id rather be at home. Midwife to check me out next week (37 weeks) to say final yes or no and deliver big box of things! DH being a bit more supportive about idea and hopefully my mother can take ds1 for a few nights to give us both a break afterwards and to spoil ds rotten before he realises hes no longer the centre of everything. Its actually making me feel quite emotional that he might be upset by it and Im not going to love him any less.
Has anybody bought anything like a birthing ball or hired a TEns. Have you used them and do you think its worth it. I didnt have tens last time but thinking about hiring it now. Anybody knowledgeable on the subject, is there one to look out for?
Am feeling a bit panicky. (and so uncomfortable!). Usually take ds1 to music/singing thing on Wed mornings but my friend's little one is sick and I really dont think can go on my own. Thankfully it looks sunny outside - ds's water table is proving even bigger a success than last summer.
Feel the need for a bacon sandwich.
Catch up with you all later.

northstar · 27/04/2005 11:00

Tab, good luck, the home birth plan sounds positive for you.
Can you believe within a month we'll all be comparing labours and suffering from lack of sleep.
I am cleaning and de-cluttering today, hopefully the plan is to have the house ready by the weekend and then chill out, spend lots and lots of quality time with dp and ds and sleep. Im watering all the houseplants and telling them not to drink it all at once just in case i dont get back to them for a while!

logic · 27/04/2005 12:09

Congrats Alux!

Just been to the docs and he said that I looked exhausted but everything is fine and that I am right: the baby is fully engaged but that doesn't mean a thing!

Your home birth idea sounds lovely, Tab!

Hi Ya All

Haven't posted for a week, so just tried to speed read all I've missed. Congrats to Alux! In fact, my SIL finally had her first baby (a DS) on Friday. She went in for induction on Wednesday, which din't work. They did three lots of Gel, but on Friday nothing was progressing, Cervix not ripening at all, so she went down for a C-Section at 3pm. They found she had a low-lying placenta when she had the C-Section, which I understand in very dangerous. Can't believe they missed it in all her scans (she had extra ones as was private). She and baby are fine and came home yesterday! I had cuddles on Monday, so brings it home to me that I'll have my own little bundle again in a few weeks. I am now 36+3, so have a little longer to wait than you early May (and late April) ladies.

BTW, my SIL was eating fresh pineapple and drink Raspberry Leaf tea like it was going out of fashion from 34 weeks. Her Cervix didn't soften at all, and even after induction she didn't have any labour pains. I think I'm going to save my pennies, as I didn't bother last time, and had a 11 hour birth.

uwila · 27/04/2005 14:14

Preggars, the low lying placental is only a problem if it goes so low that it blocks the way out (placenta previa). I have a low lying placenta (or did at 21 weeks). I am going for another scan next week (at 36 weeks +4) just to make sure it has moved up and out of the way. It usually does so it's just a routine precaution. ALthough in my case I would rather it slipped down just to make sure they give me that caesarean I so desperately want.

uwila · 27/04/2005 14:16

Wonder where FISIL is? Do you think she's gone off to be the first Due in May mum? Sorry Fisil if I'm pestering you. Best of luck wherever you are.

Preggars · 27/04/2005 14:37

When was/is she due??

fisil · 27/04/2005 15:03

Hello - still here! Thanks for thinking about me! Had a friend over this a.m. and am going for a job interview (well, discussion) this afternoon. Feeling much happier now because I've got something to do (but will have to lie in bed all day tomorrow!).

Congratulations Alux - Maya is a lovely name! (it was no.2 on our list last time).

How many times does everyone think OMG I'm going to have a baby!

uwila · 27/04/2005 15:08

Well, appears she's still here. But to answer your question fisil was due yesterday.

Oh, fisil, you are officially overdue then. Don't you hate that?
