Shiny new thread already!

Febes · 24/02/2009 19:47

Hi everyone!!!
RE: Threading its great really cheap only 3 pounds where I go in Tooting. It doesn't really hurt no more than getting them waxed anyway.
DH is just making us pancakes yum!! We have ours with lemon and sugar.

Tummum · 24/02/2009 19:53

Hi Detsy. Unfortunately the quinny won't fit in my (hopelessly impractical but I love it) car. Hope you get the price you want for it - looks lovely. Good luck with the cow costume.

daizydoo · 24/02/2009 19:55

Dandy sorry to hear about your MIL problem. She sounds like a nightmare, there is nothing to excuse such rudeness - hope your DH sorts her out soon.
Thankfully my inlaws are tucked away in South Africa too! Although my MIL sent a huge parcel for ds birthday which included lots of cute baby clothes!

I have felt really low today, mainly due to the fact that ds appears to have hit the terrible 2's head on. Ever since he woke up this afternoon all he seems to have done is whinge and cry, not matter what I do it's wrong. I just feel like such a failure and very close to tears at the moment

Belgianchocolates · 24/02/2009 20:07

Dandy Can't beleive your MIL would put the phone down on you. What's wrong with a bit of politeness, even if you weren't the person she wanted to talk to. Very rude! I can understand why you're

detsy good luck with the cow outfit.

divedaisy I'm so happy I haven't been the only one who's worried about the suggestion to take in your own antibiotics

My dd is so cute the way she's constantly thinking about my pregnancy and the baby. At least once a day she strokes my bump tenderly and every day for the last couple of weeks she comes up with another girl's name. Today's suggestion is Claire. She doesn't do boy's names, because obviously it's going to be a girl, becasue she's a girl and only likes girls!

My supervisory meeting went OK. It basically went something like, you happy with what you do? Any problems? No? OK, enjoy your mat leave!

Belgianchocolates · 24/02/2009 20:12

Gosh, all these posts have snuck in while I was typing.
daizy usually wehn my dcs are like that it's when they're brewing something (disease wise). So after getting angry with them over their whining I end up feeling guilty for not noticing they weren't well earlier. Tiredness is something else that makes mine whingy and tearful. Hope your ds gets back to his old self too.

llareggub · 24/02/2009 20:18

daizydoo you have my sympathies! DS is 2.4 and we have just come out of a long phase of not sleeping, tantrums and general hell-raising. Thankfully he is back to sleeping at least but has recently developed an irritating habit of declaring everything to be "MINE" at the top of his voice. I'm hoping nursery well help with that. Still, at their age they do have their adorable moments to make up for it!

detsy I have also have a Quinny and have been pondering whether to sell it and get a Phil + Ted double instead. DS loves walking but unfortunately won't walk with me, he is always running off. I can't quite work out how to keep him under control unless he is strapped down! I hope you get a good price for it, it looks immaculate!

Belgian glad the supervision went well. I wonder if you could get some additional CPD points for the support you've given people here?!

dandy I'm sorry that it is your turn for MIL problems. I've decided to deal with mine by taking the high road and being overly happy and jolly in her presence!

fikelly well done you on the cow idea! Inspired! I think I may have to start a scrapbook or something with ideas like that in, for the inevitable dressing-up days at school.

Sorry if I've missed anyone. I've got a day spa booked tomorrow but my fellow spa goer is unobtainable today and I've no idea where or when we are meeting. I have a feeling I am going alone which won't be the end of the world, but it would be nice to have a pal with me.

FiKelly · 24/02/2009 20:19

daisy don't feel bad.. just because this afternooon was full of whining etc.. doesn't mean tomorrow will be. i find ds has those kinds of days when he's tired/over tired/hungry because of growth spurt/or brewing a cold.. also when he turned 2 his last back molars came in which caused him a lot of bother.

OP posts:
FiKelly · 24/02/2009 20:25

llareggub my ds 2.5 is also having a MINE phase.. his other favourite phrase is 'I need it'.. 'but i need it NOW!'

OP posts:
llareggub · 24/02/2009 20:29

Oooh, fikelly, we get "I need it" too! Are they twins?

Momino · 24/02/2009 20:36

evening all.
Fikelly, makes me smile you had both thick and thin pancakes (now wish I'd done thin ones). hope everyone had a good pancake day.

dandy, appalled at your MIL. hope she apologises, explains, et al. uncalled for.

about dry throats: along with my anxiety sore throats, I have had stuffiness at night which causes me to breathe through my mouth all night and I wake up with a very dry mouth/throat. can't seem to avoid that one.

llareggub · 24/02/2009 20:38

re stuffed throats, I'm a lot better with the window open at night...

FiKelly · 24/02/2009 20:49

llareggub lol! lets hope it's yet another phase they'll grow out of

OP posts:
SpangleMaker · 24/02/2009 21:06

Dandy what bizarre - and awful - behaviour from your MIL! Does she not even have basic manners?? Can your DH have a word with her?

llareggub have a lovely day at the spa. I'd offer to go with you if I lived nearby - sod work!

detsy good luck with the cow outfit. You MUST post a pic. Had a nosey at your Quinny too. It does look nice... I might've been tempted if I didn't have (a) a tiny car (b) my eye on a Bee (c) a 'perfectly acceptable' free M&P thing

Went to my first NCT class last night. TBH I knew a lot of the info already but it was useful to be able to discuss & meet other 1st time mums-to-be. I can't get DH to read a pregnancy book so they're important for that reason too. Luckily he is quite enthusiastic, partly because the tutor is planning a new kitchen (DH has a kitchen business) but mainly because she bakes a different type of cake each week

flippineck · 24/02/2009 21:36

Dandy - your MIL sounds odd to say the least.

llaregub - v jealous of spa day, selflessly ([wink[) I'd offer to come with you but sadly I don't work on Wednesdays so have to look after DD. And I have a dentists appointment in the morning, boo.

DH and I made pancakes this evening after DD had gone to bed (she's got a cold and off food atm), I was so tempted to make another batch after we'd finished the first lot because they were yummy, classic thin ones with lemon and sugar.

llareggub · 24/02/2009 22:12

Wouldn't it be nice if you could all come to the spa? I shall think of you all

Jennster · 24/02/2009 22:29

Detsy When I sold my Quinny I'd lost my manual too, so Idownloaded it.

divedaisy · 24/02/2009 22:58

Detsy - good luck with the cow!! I meant to ask Fi earlier - what do you do with the rubber gloves - tuck them into the leggings??? Very very good!

Ilareggub - I'm free!!!!!!!!! Could do with a spa day!!

Daizydoo - have you checked ds temperature - could be he's not too well.

Well funnily enough I feel a sore throat coming on me.... so I'd best get to bed. Don't want to drink anything cos then I'll be piddling all night!!

DH interrupted my soak in the bath - he phoned from Bulgaria and got me to chase up important emails... well it was worth it cos we got the business... but my bath got cold

Oh my tummy's being alien or riverdance!! Fabulous viewing!!

Ive packed my baby bag for the hospital and have most things in my bag too!! How organised is that!!! Just feel I should be doing 'something'!! Sould take up knitting to keep my mind from fidgeting! And I've only discovered I have only 4 baby vests - is that enough???!!! I think last time I had 14!!!!!!

I AM GETTING EXCITED ABOUT MEETING THIS BABY!!! (just thought you might like to know!!)

detsy · 24/02/2009 23:52

hellooo JUST finished the cow outfit this minute - neck and back are killing me

fi took your advice and made ears from foam stuck on a headband and covered the messiness, headband and ragged ear edges with black fluffy stuff... think they look ace (unsure if they look like cows ears...) DD won't keep anything on her head so waste of time really

Stuck black felt patches on white fleecy trousers and top, stuffed a pink rubber glove and reduced size of fingers and sewed it to the bottom front of top part. Want her to try it on NOW!! Oh yes and made a tail too from white felt with black patches and some fringing at the end. And for the grand finale, I've threaded 3 little bells on a cord as a cow bell (necklace) Super mum again or what

If I can get her in it with all the bits on I'll take a pic in the morning - what a hoot!

Lots of Quinny interest on ebay but no sensible bids yet. Am I silly to be sad to be selling it??

Count me in for the spa day llare - where you off to?

Bloody hell dasisy you've packed your bag - can you come and do mine too pls?

Hypatia · 25/02/2009 02:10

Wow, you all have been busy.

I feel like my stomach is going to explode the past couple of days. I don't know like CoteDAzur if it is a growth spurt or what, but it feels like the baby is simultaneously fully extending arms and legs in opposite corners. I have to push gently on the foot/hand/lump to try and get it unhooked from my rib cage or out from kicking behind my navel. And when it turns - such an odd feeling, all slithery.

I am pleased to report that we got 2 doors hung and the flooring laid in the music room in the basement and I insisted that my husband move his drum kit and my bass and the rest of the amps and everything in there. We still have to do the baseboards and the electricity isn't hooked up, but it looks so much better now, and it is quieter too. Now we can start mudding the study and then drywalling the main room.

I am paying for my weekend of work, my hips, feet and legs are killing me. But I admit doing a couple almost all-nighters as I had a bunch of marking to do for work hasn't helped.

I'm off to bed, so an early good morning to all of you in the UK and points east.

FiKelly · 25/02/2009 07:46

detsy cow sounds great & a posh diy one can't wait to see a pic!

ds been up since 5.50 today.. dh was just leaving for work when he woke up. tried putting ds in with me to sleep.. but no good. luckily our usual wed activities are cancelled today so hoping ds will need a nap after lunch. i'm really tired and it's not even 8am. wondering if i can get away with wearing pj's all day! might get a few weird looks from neighbours when i'm taking the dog out in our communal gardens..

OP posts:
FiKelly · 25/02/2009 08:04

daisy I'm getting excited & nervous too. but not got everything for baby bag yet.. need to get nappies (not doing washables in hospital) and some wrap over vests, then baby stuff finished. need a few more bits for my labour bag and big pack of pads for after & will decide on snacks closer to time..

euromum · 25/02/2009 08:07

Good morning,

Time to finally check in on the new thread, what a lot of activity in the meantime! I've just skimmed most posts but tummum so glad you got some support and are feeling better. I hope everyone who's having ups & downs for whatever reason won't get 'stuck' in it and in general is ok. I had a random day off work yesterday and went swimming and pottered about doing nothing while dd was at nursery - felt a bit guilty for taking her in while I was off, but feel SO relaxed this morning! So I hope some of my chill out vibes reach you all through the interweb!

Fi 5.50 ouch! Pyjamas all day sounds like a very good plan to me. Ds and the dog won't mind and surely the neighbours will cope!

And divedaisy - packed already??!!! I am having a little panic because the biggest phase of our renovations is now underway - we are hoping to have living room & kitchen done by the time the baby arrives, but for the moment EVERYTHING is covered in dust (and we are living entirely in our bedrooms) and I have been putting off packing, sorting baby clothes & washing pram covers, cot sheets etc until after it's done and I'm on maternity leave. This will be maximum about 1 month before the due date - am I mad?? Someone please come and tell me that they too are leaving everything to the last minute and it will all be fine...

Re ladygardens - can't remember who said it, but it's such a great word it makes me chuckle too. Mine sadly is more of a ladythicket at the moment, it's another one of those things on the list for "when I'm on leave and have loads of time" - because clearly with all this procrastinating, I'm not at all going to be madly rushing around getting things done... Still, no stares at the swimming pool or comments from dh yet, so I reckon the world can cope with it for the time being.

Ah well, better do some work. Have a nice day ladies.

chocolatebunnies · 25/02/2009 08:07

Hi Girlies,

Im up and at em all ready today! Madi has insisted on putting "Horton Hears a Who" on, we watched it yesterday for the first time and it is really good! Its quite funny for the adults too!

desty cant wait to see a pic, sounds really good! your a clever one! cows are my fav animal (have a house full of cow & cow print orientated stuff!)

Fi I dont envy you having to be up so early, my DP goes to work at 7.30, put I have to get up every morning to make his sandwiches in return for a cup of tea so Im up at 7 everyday! Luckily for us, Madi is incredibly lazy and wakes up usually as daddy is leaving!

divedaisy cant believe you've packed already lol! i need to start preparing list upon list etc!

Re. vests - I had hundreds for Madi, went a bit OTT, this time I've got about 12, I figured bump will be a summer baby so may spend alot of time in just a vest! Also on a few occasions when Madi was a tiny tot we had a few explosive nappies involving poo up the back and front and we had to cut her out of the vest she was wearing at the time, there was no way I was negotiating poo going over my newborns head lol! so have got a few spares just in case!

Im not doing the NHS Parent Craft classes this time, well actually I was told they're really for first time parents (?!) so not to go, NCT is too far away (and to expensive) for me to go to so this time I've got a lady (shes a doula/active birth & yoga teacher) coming to my house to do a 1 -2- 1 all day session on active birthing etc, shes a lovely lady and because of my financial situation at the mo shes reduced the cost for me quite considerably! Am really looking forward to it! Although a bit aprehensive as when I asked her what I would need for the session, she said - me, dp, birthball and ice! what could the ice be for????

Have a good day!

Good luck at the dentist flippineck !

FiKelly · 25/02/2009 08:42

chocolatebunnies the ice will be instead of dh pinching you for pretend contractions.. to practice your breathing etc. it's in my pregnancy and birth book for the breathing section. re explosive poo.. had same prob with normal vests that's why i'm buying just kimono wrap over style ones this time.. easy to put on and whip off when nes.

Oh god, hospital bags PACKED?
(Sorry, morning all - haven't caught up properly yet).

Not even bought a single thing yet.............was at midwife yesterday for 28 wks bloods and she said
'So, you still thinking about this homebirth then?'
And I said I was and that consultant had okayed it.
'Oh' she says 'because I see here you had a significant PPH last time. Not sure whether we can let you have HB because of the risk of an emergency situation this time'.
I went and said that I didn't even know I'd had a PPH until recently so it can't have been that bad!
Then she had a feel of my bump and pronounced it transverse (which it was last time) and said
'Well if it stays like that you'll be having a section anyway!'
So I asked if there was anything I could do to help it move so it was head-down.
'No' she said.
And that was it. Charming lady.
Sounds like she isn't keen the homebirth idea at all and maybe I'll need to pack a hospital bag..........
Plenty of time for that yet though?!!! (I still think I'll get my homebirth though, provided LO isn't too comfy where he is).
Anyway off to do some work now. Will try to read all the posts and catch up on the happenings properly later today.
