conkertree: ooh, did I miss something? Has someone already given birth?

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 21/02/2009 20:36

Thanks Rachel

oooooohhh Conker!!! Mississipi Mud Pie mmmmmmm

lol spring has sprung and the nesting seems to have kicked in big time

PuzzleRocks · 21/02/2009 20:42

Rachel - I plan to be online during the early stages.
I have a mini Titchmarsh too.
It's funny you should say that as I was quite late getting DD her supper and she fell asleep on the sofa. The only way I could wake her was to pop a spoonful in her mouth at which she promptly sat up and tucked in. She loves pasta.
Take care of yourself and rest up some tomorrow. It sounds like you deserve it.

Right, I have a couple of skyplussed episodes of Shameless to watch.
Goodnight lovelies.

Hi everyone. I went to Mothercare today to buy some bits and pieces. Im feeling very disorganised this time compared to last time when Im sure I had my hospital bag packed from 25 weeks. Anyway there was a lovely lady in there who recommended a certain brand of nipple shields and Im sure she was an MNer if your out there thanks for the advice. Im planning to breast feed this time -last time was hell so Im stocking up on nipple shields now in preparation. DP and I haven't chosen a name yet not even a short list although he hates a girls name that I love and is unsure about a boys name that I like. I missed loads of this thread so forgive me if IM going over old ground but has everyone else chosen their names/packed their bag go the equipment etc?

Schulte · 21/02/2009 21:18

Good evening everyone is nobody interested in finishing off the old thread?

Sorry to hear that some of you are having a hard time, hopefully a day of lovely spring sunshine has made everyone feel a bit better though?

In response to something on the old thread, I think screaming can help. I had a couple of massive contractions towards the very end where all the breathing techniques failed and I just couldn't help it and screamed my head off and it seemed to really release the pressure (although hearing it nearly made my husband cry because he felt so helpless, bless him). I'd rather give birth silently smiling of course but if I have to be loud I won't hold back

Went to see another friend's new baby today - 10 days old and about 6lb 8oz - she was absolutely beautiful and tiny and slept through the whole 2 hours I was there despite two toddlers making a lot of noise around her. Everything was very calm and civilised and her mum seemed very relaxed, so am even more positive now that I'll cope too!

[shocked] at all your nesting btw - none of that going on here! But then I do have a cleaner who is very good

electra · 21/02/2009 21:21

Crikey, staryeyed - from 25 weeks?? That is very organised! In two pregnancies I have never packed a hospital bag, LOL. I could never quite believe that the baby was actually going to come out and irritated people to the core when I arrived at the hospital with bugger all...

This time I am going to try to be good - in the process of buying stuff I will need and stuff for baby, although I'm only getting essential stuff - most certainly won't be looking at those lists they give you. I have provisionally chosen names but this time it's easier because with my husband we always had to come to a compromise. He never liked my ideas and had surprisingly few of his own, so it was rather difficult!

conkertree · 21/02/2009 21:24

have got a pretty definite short list but not posting them as know some rl people on mn. I might have posted them before and forgotten though.

hopsital bag not bought yet let alone packed, but i finally started buying some things for it yesterday and today - will be one of my first jobs when i start mat leave on friday.

rachel - was somebody who i think maybe only posted at the start of the threads - sorry cant remember her name. the baby was 9 weeks early, but everything is fine apparently.

am finding it very hard not to pop through to the kitchen and sample the pie. smells so good.

kalikaroo - so glad i saw you post on the last thread. i have been trying to remember the name of the sling i want to buy, and was convinced it was kalikaroo but couldnt find it on google, so seeing you post reminded me where i got that word from - i think its actually an Elaroo I want.

staryeyed · 21/02/2009 21:38

HI Electra I know you from the SN boards.

electra · 21/02/2009 21:57

Yes, I thought I recognised your name

thebluefoxategreensocks · 21/02/2009 22:29

I haven't yet started getting anything ready yet for baby's arrival. Guess I'll soon get a list of what the midwives want me to have for the birth etc (in addition to the boxes they bring). Need to get baby clothes out & washed etc! Only 5 weeks & 4 days left to go for me (and both of my previous labours started before due date) so I really must get organised!! Husband got carry cot out of roof the other day, so need to measure the mattress so I can buy a new mattress for it! Have a rocking stand for it to put by our bed, but think I want a new mattress - having used the current one for both of my children!

BoffinMum · 22/02/2009 08:39

I am pretty organised apart from the pram is 10 miles away in a storage unit, and my delivery of babylist stuff is due to arrive on Friday. There is a even a (repaired) crib at the bottom of my bed, all nicely made up with white lace trimmed sheets and a pale blue lambswool plaid blanket, with some teddies in. I had to use my hospital bag last month for my sojourn on the dairy labour ward so that is all ready as well.

BoffinMum · 22/02/2009 08:43

My mum also brought some more baby clothes - probably up to the 100th babygro here, because we've accumulated quite a few over the years. She also brought loads of nice baby toiletries, wipes, cotton wool balls and so on, and some very special German waterproof sheets, where the plastic is sealed in between two layers of thick felted cotton, meaning the bedding doesn't get hot and sweaty like when you're using UK waterproof sheets. I don't know why they don't sell them here, actually.

Thinking about it, at some point I must put the nasty waterproof sheet on our bed in case my waters go in the night. We spent a small fortune on this mattress recently and I would be gutted to ruin in.

BabyBolat · 22/02/2009 11:11

Morning all

How are we all today?

Oddeyes, my DH is embracing any form of domesticity because he is just not used to it he was almost amazed last night as the house was spotless, his favourited cake sat on the side and dinner in the oven - I'd even run him a bath ready for when he got in from work (you can tell which one of us is 8 months pregnant and in need of pampering )His jaw almost fell to the floor when I just dropped of lunch for him and his work friends!

I am pretty organised, well I think so, I am sure there are things that I haven't got but the nursery is completely finished, the car seat waiting upstairs just in case (pram is at my parents house), have ordered the nappies that should come early next week, moses basket is all set and made up in our bedroom, have all the baby toiletries, loads of starter clothes, I have everything for the hospital bag (apart from the actual bag) but just need to pack that up which I have decided I am going to due one month pre-due date (next weekend) and then I am all set methinks... Now it is just time to wait!!

Am suffering slightly today from doing too much yesterday - felt like a 90 year old trying to get out of bed this morning - we have one of those low sleigh beds and after cleaning and gardening yesterday my back did not have the strength to get me out!!

Oooh good point about a mattress, we were just about to order one of those memory foam ones but actually might wait now til a couple of months after LO comes so I know it is safe! (haven't got mattress covers!)

Hope everyone has a nice day planned - Nutty has DH started the decorating yet?

Springy should be back today (or tonight) hope she had a lovely time!

BoffinMum · 22/02/2009 11:13

I think it was a bit off of Springy not to do a live honeymoon thread.

BabyBolat · 22/02/2009 11:18

I know think she has really let us down by not logging on to remotely to update us!!! the cheek!!!

PuzzleRocks · 22/02/2009 12:16

Good morning
Just a quick catch up before I have to face Waitrose.
We have had the RSPCA out this morning for an injured fox in the garden. They assessed his damaged leg and just released him as they thought he had a fighting chance.

Staryeyed - We have a definite name but am yet to pack a bag. I suppose Glaskham's announcement should be a kick up the bottom.

Schulte - Any woman who gives birth silently smiling is either drugged up to the eyeballs or quite insane. Are you joining our buddy system?

Electra - It never ceases to amaze me the unnecessary crap that new Mums are conned into believing they need.
Will you be joining our buddy system?

PuzzleRocks · 22/02/2009 12:19

BB - I screwed up toast before I had DD. My Mum is amazed at what i'm capable of now. Take it easy today. I know, easier said than done. I'm guilty of it myself.

OP posts:
bronze · 22/02/2009 12:35

Ok all the questions randomly around.
I have a bag on order I might start about getting some things to put in it when it arrives. I have no idea where I put things like the washable breast pads.

I do have the baby boys stuff down from the attic but its not sorted and not washed so I guess I'll have to do that sometime.

No name here. I know what I want but DH doesn't and he still hasn't written his list of 10 names.

Shulte I was pretty quiet until the crowning when I think I said sheeeeeeeeeeeet a few times.

Boffin- I have fitted waterproof sheets that are towelling on top. I much prefer them too and then can be tumbled if necessary.

What do I actually need on my hospital bag? YOu would think I would know by now but I can't get tuned into baby things.

OddEyes · 22/02/2009 12:58

Covered myself in aqueous cream with 1% menthol in this morning after shower to help with itch - such a strange experience - was freezing cold but strangely warm and tingling and smelt like a cough tablet, had(!) to go back to bed and sleep it off . Feel better now for sleep, cream and dh taking ds off to church and don't itch

woody2shoes · 22/02/2009 13:09
