Hope no-one minds me kicking this one off - 39 pages seemed a bit unmanageable!

Had 20 week scan today. Tiddler unco-operative to start with (although not as bad as DD was - took 3 goes to see everything) and it looks like most of the bits are in the right places. Decided right at the very last minute not to find out the sex. Realised that, if DD thinks she's going to have a sister, that nothing, not even photographic evidence, will change her mind anyway. So stuck with the 'don't ask don't tell' as per first time around and will just have to wait to sort out all the sodding clothes 'til we know what we've got.

Although... What do gonads look like on a scan?! Got a very good look at the hips from underneath, so to speak, and thought I saw two little bright spots, but that could be the sitting bones of course. Anyone tell me what the crown jewels look like on a scan?!

OP posts:

Yikes woolyjo hope the tests come back okay.

lucasnorth you can get bump_bands from TopShop and New Look for about £5 each. I already have the topshop ones which are slightly more expensive (a pound or something more) and saw that New Look had a stripy one (excited!) so went and tried it on ... but it is MUCH thinner material and less elasticy so less support. not worth the money saving. The Topshop one is great as it hugs the bump and gives a bit of support.
And yes I do need it ... my bump is much bigger quicker this second time round - I was gasping in the mirror this morning. Thinking where had all that come from!

LargeGlassofRed · 29/03/2009 03:53

Hi all been nice catching up, life a rollercoaster at the moment.
Have just put some 4d pics of the twins on my profile, if anyone wants a peak.

Phoenix · 29/03/2009 11:24

How far are you LGoR? Or how far were you for the 4d scan. I've been begging Dh to let us have one for weeks and he let me book one last night . Its in 3wks time, i'm so excited.

I've been obsessing that the sonographer got it wrong at the 20wk scan. He said possibly a boy but i've really got it into my head that it is a boy so i really think i'd be quite dissappointed if it was a girl so figure i need to know to prepare myself iykwim

Phoenix · 29/03/2009 11:26

Just noticed the time you posted that LGoR, we could have had a chat i've been downstairs all night cos i just could not sleep at all. I went back up to bed once ds and dh got up and got back up about an hour ago.

Gillyan · 29/03/2009 20:44

Sorry to hear about your news lydia

Hope you feel better woolyjo phoenix I'm having my 4D scan in about 3 wks too 18th April, very excited!

Someone asked about feeling huge, OMG I went to my friends Hen Party on Friday night and I knew what top I was going to wear. I had bought it about 3 weeks ago and when I came to put it on it just looked daft, was too tight across my arms and the a-line was halfway acrooss my boobs instead of under them. Seriously almost had a meltdown and wouldn't go. Looking back at the pics too and I am just horrified, seem to of got very big very quick. From my booking appoint at 9 n half wks till 21 weeks I had put half a stone on which I was happy with and all of a sudden another half stone has piled on in last 4 wks. I know we are meant to put on a pound a wk from now on but god I feel shit. Mt friends wedding is 7th May and god knows what I am going to wear, feet are started to swell too, got sock lines round my ankles. I defo think the wedding will be my next and last public appearance.

Just to complete my moan - I've got bleeding piles, a water infection and my ear infection is back.

On the positive side little one is so so active and it's great feeling her all the time. DD seems excited now about moving rooms in a couple of weeks and I'm looking forward to the 4D scan. Also 5 n half days left to work. Woo flipping hoo!

I'm struggling to find a nice dress for this wedding, I need a size 18 maternity dress and want a maxi one if poss to hide the legs but as I have enormous norks it needs to fit over them too. I almost huge maternity smocks from the 80's were in fashion, I imagine they would be so comfortable!

Phoenix · 30/03/2009 07:52

Mines the same day Gillyan

At 5 and a half days to work. I've got 5 wks left.

Gillyan · 30/03/2009 07:59

Ooh good, mine's 11am we can compare notes when we get back! I know 8th July I finish and not a moment too soon!

Phoenix · 30/03/2009 08:02

Mines at 13.30 so you're up 1st

Misspaella · 30/03/2009 11:07

Gillyan I am sure you look fab. It is hard to see our bodies change and not always look like the women in mags in certain clothes...I blame the likes of Posh Spice for this pressure.

Phoenix and Gillyan how lucky to be doing the 4Dscan. Hope you put a photo grabs on your profiles for me to have a nose.

We had a kiddie free weekend which was bliss but just not long enough. We tottered around Islington then watched Gran Torino (so sad!) and had a much needed Indian take out. The best bit was having a lie in yesterday and being able to read the papers, have coffee and croissants! And it was soooo quiet.

Feel very tired today though (that lost hour is killing me).

Baby is very active and bar still feeling sick (or being sick) I am not too bad. I do feel a bit cheated about being sick at 26 weeks but I just make sure to eat and eat some more during the windows of non nausea - mainly cakes/choc.

Hope everyone is feeling good, spring is here, well for today anyway.

Belgrano · 30/03/2009 12:08

Ha ha Gillyan I am with you on the maternity smock wishing! I actually wished that dungarees were still acceptable for pg women this weekend, as I battled with over the bump which slide down and give me a baggy a**se or under the bump which dig in and slide down to give me a builders' bum.
Sorry to everyone with redundancy worries, its such an awful time. I really feel for you. We have to all reapply for jobs in June (brilliant timing for interviews for me!) and there's a good chance I'll be made redund but I am not the major breadwinner and we could survive on DH's pay so I am not too worried.
LO is really active suddenly. I've gained a stone so far, it sounds like that's quite a lot compared to you lot? I was 8 stone 9 and am now 9 stone 9 but was 10 stone 2 at this stage last time so it may be a lot to have gained, but I am quite pleased with myself!!
Bump is def bigger (a lot) than last time tho. My first time pg friends who are things like 15 weeks and have NO BUMP are making me feel a right waddler...
Have a happy monday all.

Hi ladies, had a bit of a poo weekend, done nothing and had a bit of a down day yesterday n lots of emotional texts going between me and the tosser ex. Altho I know that he can't give me what I want out of life I'm still really upset that he's not willing to try and change for his son and that I'm having my first born child under these circumstances, this isn't how I imagined things would turn out .
Me n ex have yet to talk about money, he has said that he will of course help me financially but does anybody know what is the 'going rate'?

So sorry to hear of all these redundancies, such worrying times. Luckily my job is safe at the mo but 15 people from an other department have just been told that they're being made redundant.

belgrano I've put on a stone too so think that's about normal.

Baby has been very active lately and lots of Braxton Hicks too, to the point where I started to wonder if labour was starting yesterday!

ilikeyoursleeves · 30/03/2009 13:18

Hi all, well I had a bit of a scare last night. I went to the loo and looked down after doing a poo (sorry TMI!) and there was a pool of bright red blood! But this happened in last pregnancy so I checked to see where it was coming from, and yes the same thing has happened- I have awful piles and one burst!!! YUK but at least it wasn't anything to do with babba, phew. At the time of DS's birth last time they were so bad though that the piles, coupled with tearing of fanjeeta = I couldn't sit down without immense pain so I am wondering if I should try and get the piles sorted out now? I've had them on and off for years but always been too embarrassed to see about them. They aren't always there and don't tend to bother me but it seems pregnancy makes them appear they can get v sore. Anyone any advice? I know I need to eat more fibre so today I've had 2 weetabix and 4 slices wholemeal bread and grapes to try to up my intake.

Hunny, sorry to hear of your crap weekend. Have you and bf/ex decided to call it a day? I don't know how people tend to sort out the maintenance side but if I were you I'd try to go via formal methods like the Child Support Agency so you know he has to stick to it, he does sound a bit unreliable so you don't want to be wondering if you'll get any money off him each month.

I'm very about people finishing work so quickly! I don't finish until the last week in June

QueenFee · 30/03/2009 13:56

this hunny may help with child maintenance payments.

I had a lovely weekend but I think I am heading for the waddle stage now as the baby feels like its sort of dropped forward and I feel all heavy and I keep getting loads of BH. I am also finding it really hard to go back to sleep at night now if I am woken which includes when DS gets up at 5 usually I can go back to sleep but not anymore.
Still must keep in mind i've only got 14 weeks to go - doesn't sound like long to me!

Patchybob · 30/03/2009 14:15

Hello everyone. I have just been to visit a friend of mine in hospital who brok her back recently and has had it all put back together. She had a lucky escape and is now up and walking very carefully. It was good to see her and fill her in on all the gossip.

I have put on 1 stone now and am also waddling! Am struggling with the lost hour from the clock change and am feeling very tired.

ilikeyourselleves I am suffering from piles too, eating loads of wholemeal, apricots and drinking fruit juice. Am now on 2 ferrous sulphate a day as quie anaemic which doesn't help! A friend of mine had something done to her piles in her last pregnancy, not sure what, can't remember, but has never suffered since. Perhaps worth talking to your gp.

I have now been refered to physio for my SPD. Cab't walk without some pain. Haven't yet got a support band, have any of you ever tried them and are they worth the expense?

Anyway, thats me for now xx

Patchybob · 30/03/2009 14:17

Broke not brok!
Can't not cab't!

Blimey that went well!

ilikeyoursleeves · 30/03/2009 14:18

I just searched 'All Bran' and there's loads of fibre in that so I'm going out to stock up

xxhunnyxx · 30/03/2009 15:33

Thanks queenfee that's fab, it gave me a similar figure to what I had in my head so that's a big help.

ilikeyoursleeves yes I always find that All Bran works a treat and nice with banana and sultanas on it too.

QueenFee · 30/03/2009 19:17

patchybob the physio will give you one. I had a fembrace with 3 straps none of the others worked for me but that one was really good last time.

EvieBear · 30/03/2009 19:54

hi all
i had a good weekend, but am shattered too with the hour going back!
on sat i tried out the pram i thought was the one for me, the microlite toro but it was awful - not stable at all so i was a bit disappointed (christiana you were right)!! the shop did have the mutsy 4 rider light which i hadn't heard much about before but it's lovely- have any of you heard about it? would love to know! it's 62.9cm wide and the main doors to our flat are 63.5cm wide so i should be ok shouldn't i? it has the carrycot and then changes into the seat unit after six months which is what i want and it's not as heavy as the icandy apple or buzz but similar in style.

think i better go off for a snooze now, soooo tired!

PS 14 weeks to go for me too, i'm actually starting to get scared now- such a big life changing event is not that far away! another 12 weeks in work, last day is 19th june. crazy how the weeks are going by!

LargeGlassofRed · 30/03/2009 20:31

phoenix had the scan done at 24 weeks think they do it slightly earlier with twins.
Unfortunanlty dd2 started feeling ill before the appointment so was worring about her, she made it through the scan then came out and projectile vomited everywhere, poor mite. She was laid up about 5 days then dp got it.
Am not usually up at that time of the morning only when I'm at work, I work perminate nights so always catch up then.
I'm finishing work at the end of april I can't wait. Moving on the 9th so every day at the moment is spent clearing cupboard or at the tip or charity shop.
Having at nightmare with ex h at the moment going through divorce ect.
Praying all will be done by the time the babies come.
Still having really bad constipation dispite eating tons of fibre although I get IBS when I'm stressed so I think its due to that.
Anyway will stop waffling, I've put 1 stone 3 on so far and have also started swelling in my lower legs, mainly.

Gillyan · 31/03/2009 08:30

Hi all. I'm with the one's of you with piles
and feet and ankle swelling - marvelous! I'm using to Anusol Cream from Boots at the moment but am going to mention it to the doc this morning as I have been bleeding.

I FINISHED WORKED YAESTERDAY AT 12.30PM! Got into work and promptly burst into tears as my DD has Slap Cheek I think which is contagious ( taking her to the docs at 9.40 followed by me at 9.50!) but I sent her in to nursery as I just could not bare to have to have to phone my boss and day I can't come in again. My bum is really sore and bleeding and my ear infection is back and it hurts when I wee. All in all totally fudged off and was getting very stressed about the probability that I was going to have to take more time off sick. My boss took one look at me and asked if I just wanted to finish so I said yes! My mat leave doesn't kick in till 3 rd May and up till then is all my holiday so thats quite good. It's not sunk in and god knows what I'm going to do with the time. We're keeping DD in nursery as normal for 3 days a week until after I've recovered from the c/section and I'll miss her so much. Although all my ailments will get better just from not working so pleased about that!

Right better get her up to get to the docs, have a good day everyone xx

xxhunnyxx · 31/03/2009 09:43

Awww Gillyan I'm so jealous that you've finished work! I'm seriously considering bringing my maternity leave forward, I've got quite a few days booked off in May so I'm working 3-4 day weeks and then finish properly on 9th June but it really can't come soon enough. Only problem is if I finish earlier it's not actually gonna make the baby come any earlier (which is prob what I really want) and I'll prob just be bored at home on my own.

I can't remember who it was who had a problem with their friend but how do I politely tell my friend that I can't be arsed speaking to her about her petty little problems? She's one of my best friends but I haven't told her that I've split up with bf yet cos I don't really wanna talk about it but she keeps pestering me for life advise and I just keep ignoring her calls. I feel like such a bad friend but she just winges about absolute tripe and I just wanna give her a slap and tell her to get a bloody grip!

Beccabump · 31/03/2009 12:23

Hi there

Wow so much to catch up on, plese excuse my typos as I am on Dh's laptop and can't get the hang of the mini keyboard!!

Hope all of you are having a good day today, huge hugs to those who need them!

Saw my mw this morning and became an official homebirth person! BP really good - 110/70! We fine and bump measurement was spot on for 24 weeks - so there too all those annoying people who keep telling me I'm huge! Heard the little man's hb which is always nice and also got my forms sorted for my GTT bleh! I really hate it but have to have it as my dad and grandfather are both medicated diabetics. Also asked about strep b testing but their policy is that unless there is previous history or clnical evidence (ie you feel poorly down there!!) then they won't put you through any unneccesary swabs and stress yay! As I am now hb, I get to have the extra appt in 4 weeks rather than going to 32 weeks. I think it is mainly to discuss what is needed and what will happen etc. Will also get my grant papers then for the healthy eating thing - typically I am 1 day early with my 24/25 week appt to get it this visit!

I am ever expanding at the moment and have had real bump ache this week where my muscles are starting to stretch out! Luckily my yoga sessions are really paying off with the SPD and I am still walking easily without the crutches for most of the day. Am starting aquanatal soon and also my ante-natal classes at the local children's centre - apparently they are really good and everyone is loving them.

Does anyone else have really bad baby brain at the moment? I am constantly forgetting things and today left my debit card at the post office!! Luckily they are keeping it safe for me till I can get back there to get it!

This has turned into a bit of an epic post really so I will go now to wait for the washing machine repair man....more money!

xxx

ilikeyoursleeves · 31/03/2009 13:57

Gillyan fab that you are finished work now but sorry to see that you and DD aren't feeling so great! Can I ask, are you taking DD out of nursery after you recover from the birth then? My DS is currently in for 2 days a week and I'm thinking of trying to keep him in for one day while I'm off this time. This will hopefully allow me to sleep and spend quality time with the new baby a few mornings a week

I've had a fab day so far- annual leave today and DS is in nursery. I got him up and ready for nursery, DH took him there while I went back to bed and slept til 1030am! Then I had a long soak in the bath, defuzzed myself and just went to Tesco's with DH for some bits n bobs. Now going to look online for a holiday- either Lanzarote or Iceland!!! Seems like a great time to go to Iceland given their economic situation but then a week on a beach building sandcastles sounds good too....

Have a great day all!
