Hope no-one minds me kicking this one off - 39 pages seemed a bit unmanageable!

Had 20 week scan today. Tiddler unco-operative to start with (although not as bad as DD was - took 3 goes to see everything) and it looks like most of the bits are in the right places. Decided right at the very last minute not to find out the sex. Realised that, if DD thinks she's going to have a sister, that nothing, not even photographic evidence, will change her mind anyway. So stuck with the 'don't ask don't tell' as per first time around and will just have to wait to sort out all the sodding clothes 'til we know what we've got.

Although... What do gonads look like on a scan?! Got a very good look at the hips from underneath, so to speak, and thought I saw two little bright spots, but that could be the sitting bones of course. Anyone tell me what the crown jewels look like on a scan?!

OP posts:

Lillabet · 26/03/2009 10:32

Gillyan small world! I grew up in Macclesfield and the parents still live there!
As for the work thing - I would love to be a SAHM but we're not sure we can afford it. Work have said I can start back on one day a week and work up to whatever I am happy with. The former chairman did say he thought I should be a SAHM - I agreed, but then said unless they would increase the DH's wages by the amount I am paid it wasn't likely to happen!! He went very quiet .
Congrats on the weekend away from work

rubyriley I wouldn't mind so much if it was other pg women who had said it to me, but it is older ladies whose kids are grown (so far!!).

mij I actually have a mat t-shirt that has Hands (Off) on it for bump touchers! I have threatened to rip the arms off the next person that tries it. The t-shirt is available here. Someone PRODDED your bump . I'd have ripped their arm off and beaten them round the ears with it!!! I do wonder why people think you are public property when you are pg - they wouldn't do it to a woman who wasn't pg!

lydiathetatooedlady try here for some nice looking maternity dresses that don't look too tent like! They're not cheap, but a couple of them have up to 50% off .

I better get on with doing some work!! Hope you all have a good day

mickeylou · 26/03/2009 11:25

bump touching - last time my m-in-l actually lifted up my top and touched my bump. my DH thought it was hilarious because my face must have been a picture. i've got a real thing about people touching me - save for very close family i'm just not a huggy, touchy feely type person. this was far too much of an invasion of personal space for my liking!!

i have a great t shirt from blooming marvellous that just says "it started with a kiss"

at least i'm not the only one still puking then gillyan i just hate being sick.

JetLi · 26/03/2009 11:41

Oh shag, shag, shag....
Got awful pain in my pubic bone this morning. OK sat down but really sore when moving around. It's not what I think it is - is it? Opinions please?
Mad-Wife appointment at 3pm.
This is revenge for not ever having actually chucked up so far (albeit I have felt like it!).

BonzoDoodah · 26/03/2009 11:51

Hi Gillyan we're only 10 miles apart!

I'm off to see Cirque du Soleil at the MEN arena this afternoon - really excited!

xxhunnyxx · 26/03/2009 11:53

jetli maybe it's just baby pressing against your pubic bone, my LO likes to punch it at the mo - ouch!
Other than that maybe a UTI? I'm sure MW will be able to tell u.

bump touching For anyone who doesn't like being man handled by virtual strangers, what about this t-shirt ???

EvieBear · 26/03/2009 12:17

Hey

bonzo enjoy cirque du soleil - i love them! have been to two of their shows over the years.

i had the maddest dream last night - is anyone having similar? dreamt i had the baby, but didn't feed it for 3 days and then went off to the cinema with DP and left it home alone! this was after having been woken up with it moving a lot! it freaked me out totally!! hope i don't have them every night, i felt so guilty even though it was just a dream...

mickey must check that t-shirt out, i always sing that song to DP 'it started with a kiss'.. and have a chuckle. we were actually planning our wedding when it happened - my wedding dress is now under the bed alongside the invitations i had made as we will now get married next summer... and wedding date was?? yes, my due date! nuts!

mickeylou · 26/03/2009 13:00

you just made me laugh Evie - my wedding day was brought rapidly forward as DS was due the month after it was booked and paid for. i didnt fancy waddling down the aisle. do you remember the tv programme cutting it? didnt ruby's waters break at the alter?

i now really wish i'd moved the wedding back not forward as i was 10 weeks and felt rotten.everyone else talks about what a great day it was and i feel i really missed out. also some very rude people kept commenting on the size of my boobs in my dress which really upset me. i had gone from a C to a DD in the space of a few weeks but if you havent got anything nice to say dont say anything at all!! especially to a bride!!

i also keep having weird dreams - mostly about completley neglecting DS - in one dream i let him get out of the buggy in a busy city and he fell into a canal. the most recent was him driving down the middle of a main round on his battery operated quad bike. i think someone is trying to tell me i cant cope with one sprog let alone 2!!

lydiathetattooedlady · 26/03/2009 20:32

oh god, dp has just got home from work, he's losing his job in july. best case secnario he's one of the lucky 8 out of 30 who gets relocated to...MANCHESTER. worst case no job. shit shit shit. im going for a bath and a cry x

TheLittleMermaid · 26/03/2009 20:57

Oh Lydia - I'm so sorry!!! I was just trespassing on this thread (due date is 25 June) and saw your post. A bath and a good cry is deffo in order. I will keep fingers and toes crossed for you. This recession is shit. Words aren't enough, sending you hugs! x

rubyriley · 26/03/2009 22:34

Yes, lydia I'm very sorry to hear your news too. Just said to my DP that keep reading on MN about redundancies, and that this is the real world, real people not just newspaper reports or government statistics

mickeylou I'm getting that t shirt! Best slogan I've heard. Is it a "normal" t shirt? Love wearing t shirts but have struggled to find nice ones with proper t shirt necks and sleeves. Can't bear these low cleavage t shirts which seems to be around at the moment. I don't mind for evenings but not for every day wear. I'm outdoors a lot and they're just not practical!

Patchybob · 27/03/2009 07:53

lydia I just wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you both. Hope you managed a decent night sleep. When will he find out if he keeps his job. Big hugs xx

JLo2 · 27/03/2009 08:28

lydia I feel for you My DH was told about his redundancy 2 weeks ago and my reaction was a little more extreme than yours as I immediately threw up He finishes in 2 weeks time. Once it's all sunk in I'm sure you'll cope, mainly because you have to

Phoenix · 27/03/2009 10:23

Sorry to hear about dh's job Lydia , hope you're ok.

I've got this t-shirt from New Look and one that says 'make mine an epidural'

Cheekycel · 27/03/2009 10:38

Phoenix i have the same t-shirt! And it def seems to get the message across as no-one at work even dared ask if i was pg or not until a couple of weeks ago!

dannyg · 27/03/2009 13:37

Hiya all have not posted in ages, All going well Bubs is a right wriggler and fidget & insists on doing full turns whilst I'm walking (not the comfiest of feelings i tell ya). Put my Mat leave in last week to start from 29th June but have 6 weeks holl to take before i go so last day 27th May ill be 33 weeks then, Start back 5th April next year.
Love the T shirts i too hate bump touches apart from my Dp & Ds's. Also have loads of people at work saying how big i am and comparing me to other people i know. I'm beginning to think I'm having an abnormally huge baby!!.
Have bought loads of stuff now only have to get a mosses basket and some practical stuff like nappies etc. Have bought loads of pink stuff even the car seat is pink!. My friend said i should buy some neutral stuff. Hence my 3 white sleepsuits and 3 white vests and white bibs Lol. Hope they got the sex right or it will be a boy surrounded by PINK hmmmm.

dannyg · 27/03/2009 13:40

ps forgot to say im from Brentwood

rubyriley · 27/03/2009 17:43

Hey, to all those worried about their births and pain relief/hypnotherapy/relaxation techniques how about this;

A friend was telling me today about someone she'd heard of had relaxation therapy prior to her labour and was so relaxed during birth that actually had multiple orgasms at the point of delivery! Apparently if you relax completely that's what can happen She was saying Oh my God, Oh my God, it's SO good!!

What ARE we worrying about......? Or maybe we don't want to be THAT relaxed

Had ordered a hynotherapy cd but thinking now maybe I'll give it away

lucasnorth · 27/03/2009 18:18

Hi all, sorry it's been ages since I posted. DH may or may not be being made redundant next week (, great people management there), and I have been stressing out about that mainly.

Is anyone else RIDICULOUSLY HUGE already? I am the same size now, with over 3 months to go, as I was a few weeks before DD1 was born. And exhausted and out of breath to go with it . Very worried about how I'm going to get through the rest of this pg. I'm seeing the midwife next week (for the first time since booking in ) and I'm going to ask her what's going on (and how much weight I've put on - we don't have scales).

Is there any item of clothing that works as a bump 'bra' that anyone can recommend? I think part of the problem is that I have zero muscle tone below my armpits...

Sorry to moan. Will try and keep in touch more regularly.

QueenFee · 27/03/2009 19:08

I am sorry for those of you whos dp's have lost their jobs. I sympathise whole heartedly. FWIW you can get through it in one piece - DH was made redundany when I was pg with DS and was out for 8 months. It was very hard but we did survive (probably stronger for it!). Hoping to encourage you

I am starting to get very out of breath now and get a stitch every time I do the school run which is slowing me down somewhat!

Who was it who was looking for primary colours? I saw this on my travels and though of you! this maybe not what you were thinking of but HTH.

ilikeyoursleeves · 27/03/2009 19:53

Sorry to read about people being made redundant, what a nightmare! I hope everything works out and you will know where things stand regarding your partners jobs, you could be doing without all the stress at this time. ((((((Hugs))))) to you.

Luca I feel huge already too! I kept a belly diary with DS where I took a photo of my growing bump every week (doing the same this time round) and when comparing my belly I look like I did at least 5 or 6 weeks further on last time! Just this week I am really feeling my belly being there, it's getting in the way of putting on my shoes, bending down etc and starting to feel heavy. I wonder what size I'll be by the EDD! BTW I've only put on 10lb so far (put on more by this stage last pregnancy but had smaller belly, weird eh?).

Ruby there was an article in the Times (?) last week about women experiencing orgasms when giving birth, I think there have been some threads on this here. I really can't believe it though! I def didn't have the big O when giving birth but mind you, at several points I did tell the midwife that I was enjoying the whole experience LOL- think that was me off my face on gas and air though

woollyjo · 27/03/2009 20:17

Hi all well I've had an afternoon in our local PANDA unit (pre and ante-natal diagnosis assessment unit or something like it). I've been having a lot of pain across the top of my bump for the last week to the point that I needed pain killers to get any sleep and have probs moving.

MW arranged for me to 'pop' in to the unit for a check up, I said I'd have dd with me (2yrs), would that be ok "oh yes".

Blimey, 2.5 hours later near toddler and mother collaborative meltdown we get out of the place. I had 20 mins monitoring on a machine 5 min consult and 5 min blood test the rest of the time the MW was writing notes (not mine). I've got no voice at the moment due to a cold and trying to keep dd entertained and the right side of a tantrum was exhausting!

As it is I've been prescribed stronger pain killers and am waiting to hear if the blood tests show up any nasties.

An evening of Shameless and ER for me then drugs and bed!

On the T-shirt front DH had one done via a web site for me last time with ' It ain't over 'til I stop screaming' on the front 'and the baby starts' on the back. I wore it in labor, made the MW laugh

EvieBear · 28/03/2009 10:25

Morning

Sorry to hear about the redundancies too... Both me and DP went through this a few months ago, waiting to be told if we were losing our jobs or not and it was so stressful. Hope you're doing ok, it's not a nice situation to be in I can imagine. But we're all in this recession and no one knows when the next wave of redundancies will hit their company. Scary.

I'm going to a bric a brac sale in a local school in half an hour... Will see if they have any baby equipment which could come in handy.

I saw an icandy cherry in a local dept store for £299 and am so tempted to buy it, it includes the carrycot too... it's on sale. I just can't make up my mind with prams and DP says just buy the thing and forget about it now. Hmmm...

Ok happy saturday everyone.

BrumOne · 28/03/2009 11:45

Thanks for the advice mickeylou, i really dont wanna think bout going down that route though - want everything to be on good terms!! Its weird with the name thing - had always thought of the baby havin his name - I quite traditional like that - but now the wedding is off, it means I will have a different name to my baby!!!

xxhunnyxx sorry to hear you are going through crap too - I saw my partner ex two days a go, when he came home for the night - I was an emotional wreck which he hasnt seen before - but it changed nothing - i think it is now hitting me that its over - I really dont know how to move on though - how do you stop lovin someone??

Phoenix · 28/03/2009 12:35

I've just been to another nct nearly new sale and got a silver cross sovereign highchair for £35, very happy with it

for all the redundancies. My Dh's company is making redundancies too (Empire Stores catalogue gone bust but LaRedoute, Vertbaudet and Daxon are still going) he works on security so while ever there is a building they should need security officers but his job is not safe by any means.

Phoenix · 28/03/2009 20:13
