Hope no-one minds me kicking this one off - 39 pages seemed a bit unmanageable!

Had 20 week scan today. Tiddler unco-operative to start with (although not as bad as DD was - took 3 goes to see everything) and it looks like most of the bits are in the right places. Decided right at the very last minute not to find out the sex. Realised that, if DD thinks she's going to have a sister, that nothing, not even photographic evidence, will change her mind anyway. So stuck with the 'don't ask don't tell' as per first time around and will just have to wait to sort out all the sodding clothes 'til we know what we've got.

Although... What do gonads look like on a scan?! Got a very good look at the hips from underneath, so to speak, and thought I saw two little bright spots, but that could be the sitting bones of course. Anyone tell me what the crown jewels look like on a scan?!

Hi Beccabump - sounds like things are going well.

Gillyan - I'm really jealous about finishing work. But then I've only got 10 weeks left which is going to fly by.

I had a rubbish weekend - had high blood pressure at antenatal appointment on Thursday, the fainted again (4th time) on Friday then had really bad pain Saturday morning. Naively thought that it was premature labour pains (first baby, give me a break!) so that shook me up and I was so scared and rang the midwife. Turned out it was probably ligaments stretching as it went away in the afternoon and after having some paracetemol. Feel much better now and my blood pressure is back to normal. Think I had a growth spurt as my belly has got huge!

Weight gain wise, I started at 9st 10 and am now 11st - so just over a stone, seems to be what should be expected. I think I am not going to weigh anymore!

I wanted to ask everyone's advice actually - do I need a Moses basket as well as a cot? I suppose I need something for downstairs?

Take care all

Lillabet · 31/03/2009 15:27

xxxhunnyxxx - it was me who was having a problem with the PITA friend. In the end her and her DH came round (with about 20 minutes notice) to see me and my DH. I was nice and polite but not overly enthusiastic to see her - I wasn't in a good frame of mind at the time! The fact my bump was visible appeared to freak her out a little and she has gone very quiet since. My DH did have a chat with her DH though and explained I was quite stressed about the pg and that as much as I wanted to be there for her I couldn't be her "got to" girl all the time!
My only advice is to try and explain that you would love to be there for your her but you have so much going on in your life at the moment you just can't be. If she is any kind of a friend she will either back off or if she is a really good friend she will be there for you and put her cr*p to one side for the time being! You do have to pluck up the courage to answer the call though .

Acceber I have a moses basket for our bedroom and a cot for the nursery. Don't have enough room to have a cot in our bedroom

Beccabump - I have had bad baby brain for a while. Always been a bit ditzy but it has definitely got worse recently!

I am at 24wks + 6 and can't believe I only have 15 wks to go!! I finish work on the 19th June and I cannot wait.

Oooh, long post! Sorry!

mickeylou · 31/03/2009 16:10

hi everyone - just been catching up - so sorry about the redundancies. gillyan - you really are having a time of it - i hope you and DD feel better soon.

i am having a really busy week at work and have got to find the time at some point to decorate an egg for a competition at nursery on friday.

everyone is telling me how huge i look. bump is on the large side but i just keep saying i havent got the height to hide it.

baby names or lack of are still doing my head in. what do people think of my short list?

ella,
poppy
katy
libby

xxhunnyxx · 31/03/2009 17:26

Thanks lillabet unfortunately we don't have DH's to be inbetweens but I've just text my friend about it so hopefully she might have a subtle word in her ear...then again this friend doesn't know the meaning of the word 'subtle' lol. Maybe I just need to be upfront with her myself.
I'm borrowing my friend's moses basket but TBH I don't think I would pay for one myself, if I wasn't borrowing one I think I would have just used my carry cot during the day.

mickylou I do like all those names, my little sister is an Ella and she is adorable! Really like Katy too.
I'm struggling a bit for names too, up until recently the only boy's name I liked was Charlie but also recently started to like Sam but not sure if it's just a bit 'ordinary'. Any opinions?

Ilikeyoursleeves Hiya, I am keeping her in 3 days a wk as usual until I have recovered from the c/section and then she is going to change to do the free pre-school hrs at her nursery. She could go to the pre school at the school she will be going to but my nursery has just started allowing kids to do there free time there from 9-11.30am or 2-4.30pm up to 5 times a week. Also they will be dead flexible and if you want your child to stay on an extra hour you just pay by the hour with and additional £2 for any meals they have. You only get the funding for over 3yr olds and only for 38 wks of the year so I will have to pay for it in summer hols and over xmas etc if I wanted her to go. She will be going up to the school with loads of kids from the nursery so I'd rather keep her where she is now as it won't be too much of a change for her, she's very sociable so not too worried about how she will adjust with the move to school. I jusy know I'll miss her with me sat at home on Mon, Wed and Fri's but my mum has convinced me to leave her in all the days at it's not really long till baby will be here, I'll just feel guilty not doing anything!

Went to the docs and I have got an infection in both ears and yet more anti-biotics. Doc thinks DD may have asthma but not sure and at the moment she has an asthmatic wheeze! Can't believe it as no one has asthma in the family and she's showed no signs before and she's 3yr 2 months. We'll see.

God I'm riding the emotional rollercoaster today, just want to punch someone, mailny DP!

QueenFee · 31/03/2009 21:55

acceber my Dcs sleep in their pram downstairs and a cot upstairs so you can manage without one if you wish. I found it handy as I could pop out without waking them, but then I am within walking distance of shops trains etc. I used cot upstairs for DD in day when she got older but DS still sleeps in pram or on sofa (2.5 yr)

mickey I love all of those names. Ella is quite popular roiund here though so might find shes not the only one if that bothers you.

I have serious baby brain this time around and can't remember peoples names even people I see 5 times a week

Phoenix · 31/03/2009 22:44

Accebar - We had a moses basket in our bedroom. I think we had it downstairs once or twice but just ended up using a bouncy chair. We didn't use it for that long in our room either because ds was a big baby (9lb2oz) we used a travel cot for a bit too but he went into his own room at around 7wk old.

Gillyan - for infection and more ab's. hope dd's wheeze isn't asthma.

I went to the mw this afternoon, heard heartbeat, bp ok for a change , baby 24wk size apparantly and all fine .

I had a read through my notes after the appointment and there was a 20wk scan report in there and apparantly i have an anterior but not low placenta. I googled it cos i had no idea what it meant and its normal

I forgot to ask for my MatB1 form or for a health in pregnancy grant form so i'll have to wait another 4wks til i go again to get them. I've seen my manager today (i'm working at a different site on light duties) and i've def got 6wks leave in before my maternity leave though so i'm happy. My final day at work will be 1st May

lydiathetattooedlady · 01/04/2009 07:55

morning all, sorry for the early post have already been up for ages, so thought id catch up on here!
just wanted to say thankyou for all the lovely messages regarding dps redundancy, have been an emotional wreck this last week. this included me fainting yesterday at work in front of dd! had to get checked up by a midwife who siad im dehydrated have high ketones (sp?) in urine which shows im not eating enough/properly and im stressed! have a hideous cough cold which also isnt helping.
trying to stay positive about everything though!
anyway im so jealous gillyan you've finished work. i will have to wait til end of may, or given dps redundancy go later which im dreading, even worse is the thought of having to go back to work when baby is only few weeks old
mickeylou i love the name poppy too, ella is quite popular here too, although i have pg friends in preston one in newcastle who both have that name if there baby is a girl!
i have terrible baby brain-cant remember who mentioned it, but keep getting my words mixed up. i said 'skank' instead of 'hank' when talking to a customer the other day!

xxhunnyxx · 01/04/2009 11:04

Talking about baby brain I just had to count how many weeks I've got left till due date because I couldn't remember whether I'm 26 or 27 weeks. How bad is that?

Just had physio and hobbling lots now, she told me need to waddle! Easier said than done lol.

mickeylou · 01/04/2009 13:37

Hiya, thanks for feedback on names. i am leaning towards Poppy myself but have been sightly put off by my mum - who gives me a stoney silence each time its mentioned. come to think of it though - i dont think she liked Ds's name either!! i do like ella but like you all say it is a popular name. i think i will just have to take my shortlist into hospital with me and decide whether she's a poppy, an ella or a katy on the day.

Honey - i like Charlie alot. Sam is nice too though. my DS is called Billy - love little old man names for boys!!

hope you feel better soon lydia - you have so much on your plate at the moment! i wont be able to take full 9 months maternity leave either - i am just hoping DH's business keeps doing ok so i can have 6 months.

dannyg · 01/04/2009 13:39

Baby Brain too, Just booked tickets for Ripleys Believe it or not for Ds 12th Bday in April, first of all i gave wrong email address & then i realised id booked it a month later than what i was supposed to! oopps . Hope you all having a lovely day the Sun is gorgess today x x

Gillyan · 01/04/2009 13:48

accebar I picked up a second hand moses basket and stand for £10, as they're not in them long. I've got my old swinging crib from lat time too so baby will sleep in that upstairs maybe with the moses basket in it. Then I'll move her to the cot again maybe put the moses basket in the cot for a bit. I will also have the pram that she could sleep in downstairs.

lydia poor you, god such shit timing for you both, try not to stress if you can, hope you don't faint again.

mickey Poppy is gorgeous! Ignore your Mum, we have decided on the name Summer now and we're not telling anyone as sick of people's input especially mum and my nanna!

Well first day to myself. DD is at nursery..I read for a while on the sofa and then fell asleep but got woke up by a frigging saleaman at the door which I ignored. Then a guy looked through the window at me and saw me on the sofa, I was on my mobile and he started knocking on the door so I igonred that and he came back to the window and looked at me again and he could cleary see I was on the phone, I got up opened the door and said 'I AM ON THE PHONE WILL YOU F@*K OFF' This is clearly going to happen all the time now I am off work to notice it! I am still feeling quite moody and anger easily but at least he got my rath rather than poor DP who seems to be getting it all at the moment!

Beccabump · 01/04/2009 17:35

Feeling sad today as took DD to hospital appt for her ears (recurrent infections and some hearing loss) and was told she definately has hearing loss both sides and bad on one side and needs grommets

My little baby has to have a general anaesthetic

Lillabet · 01/04/2009 17:56

accebar should have said (and didn't - baby brain ) a friend has leant us the moses basket and stand. She is intending on having more children so would like it back once we're finished with it Depending on whether we use it much/at all we might invest in one with additional DCs (I can see the DH watching me type this and shudder! Should say he is only worried 'cos he thinks he is going to be a cr*p dad - he so isn't!!).

xxhunnyxx the DH only intervened when he actually saw the BP monitor go mental when she rang me on his mobile (mine was turned off he forgot!) and I realised who it was calling! Before that it was definitely a case of "You're big enough to sort this out yourself!". To be honest my best friend offered to have a word - she doesn't do subtle either - but the DH stepped in before she got a chance (she's quite miffed!).

mickeylou Poppy and Ella are lovely names. Ignore your mum . To be honest we are avoiding telling anyone the names we have picked out - means when we name the baby it is a fait accompli and no one can do anything about it! We've gone for names that are quite long but can be shortened for every day use. Long names are good for conveying the level of trouble said child is in - I still get the full name treatment when I am in trouble and if I have really upset the DH, mum, dad or DB I get ALL my names!!

lydia so sorry about the DPs redundancy. Try and take it as easy as possible (I know, often easier said than done ). Understand the worries though - DH and I work together and just before we announced the pg to our company, they announced the company might not exist in 12 months!! As it happens we have a reprieve until March 2010 but we're not sure if that will be extended! It is definitely still a small niggly voice in the back of my head!

Berlimey - yet another monster post!!

Mij · 01/04/2009 18:44

Blimey, a fast moving thread again.

Very sorry to hear about redundancies, illness and general crapness for people.

lydia closer baby carrier - I bought a second hand one a couple of weeks ago cos several people have asked me about one, and I hadn't tried it. I'd think you would get more support than with a ring sling, but not as much as with a wrap. Cos I'm used to wraps I didn't think much to it (nothing really competes with a Kari-me or a Didymos) but you may well feel differently.

bumpmauling my MIL (mother-out-law to be pedantic!) fondled my stomach as soon as she arrived at the weekend, followed by her partner. Really pissed off, and they didn't seem to think I was serious when I said, 'right, that's your one and only go at that'. Actually got (stupidly) tearful when I talked to DP about it - it's still my sodding stomach, it's not the baby yet.

barfing got another disgusting cough and it's making me puke again. Slightly reassured I'm not alone, but I doubt that's making anyone feel any better!

Off to try to dance, although not sure I'll be much use as going in a straight line doesn't hurt my pubic bone, but spinning does. And a lot of spinning is required. The class will have to imagine the turns!

OP posts:
Gillyan · 01/04/2009 20:32

beccabump Hope your little one is ok. My DD had an ear infection for a YEAR from the age of 1 - 2yrs. It was dead rare and resistant to all anti-biotics! The only medication that would get rid of it was a drug they use to treat anthrax inhalation and the drug can be fatal if given to under 5yr olds and had given baby animals in tests arthritis! Needless to say worse 12 months of my life! Anyhow, after many appoints with ENT she needs gromits and tubes putting in her ears but they won't do it till she's 5yrs!!???

Try not to worry, I was born 80% deaf and had to have gromits and tubes, I rememeber going to theatre and waking up etc (I was 4yrs) and I don't remember it bothering me in the least. I have practically perfect hearing now ( well I have got an ear infection at the moment, but apart from that!) It;s going to be worse for oyu though isn't it! I'd be so worried about the general too! Aww hope you'll be okay xx

lydiathetattooedlady · 01/04/2009 20:37

thanks for that mij think ill get a kari-me one, seem to be able to get them quite a bit cheaper off ebay!
dp is on nights tonight and im all alone with dd though shes sound asleep in bed now! think ill spend the evening mooching on the web looking for baby bargains!

rubyriley · 01/04/2009 23:02

Is the Kari-me one that will also fit on your back? That would be quite handy for me prior to going into a sturdier back pack. Used to (11 years ago) have a Karrimor which stood on its own on the floor to enable you to put baby in, then I got the hang of loading it onto my back single handed. Have seen wraps which go up to approx 3 yrs but surely I'd need help to strap baby onto my back?

Mij do sympathize with your bump touching experience. Think a lot depends upon who it is and how you feel about being touched there. My hairdresser the other day (who I barely know) said, oh you are coming along and promptly touched my bump. I wasn't offended but I didn't particularly like it either. Whereas DP thinks I was a dog in a past life as generally love to be stroked anywhere especially my head Love him stroking my belly and so does LO!

Gillyan Your salesman post made me smile; good for you!! I was having an indian head massage the other day, lounge curtain closed and over my relaxing music I heard a knock at the door. Just ignore it, I said to my friend. It knocked again. Bu**er off I thought and ignored. Not sure those feelings quite go with the relaxation of an indian head. What kind of wally knocks repeatedly on the door when the curtains are closed?? I should have shouted similarly to you!!

Have a weird story. Have been feeling very off 1st thing in a morning, having had a good breakfast (bran flakes and a crumpet) an hour earlier. Feel so unwell, feel need to sit down asap and can't bear being hot. After an hour it passes and feel fine again but getting fed up of feeling so sh**t. So rang midwife & left a msg on her answerphone. Strange voicemail msg referring to angels but didn't really think that much of it until heading out to do the school run later. Remember being given a lady's number ages ago, same 1st name as midwife, who is a horse medium (I know)and had a cold chill as I realised had left my message with her!! Hence the reference to angels Will try the midwife again tomorrow

Andie01 · 02/04/2009 11:56

beccabump My ds also needed grommits - he failed his newborn hearing test and was then followed through until last Aug when it was decided he needed grommits due to glue ear - he was 22 months when he had op. I was worried before (only natural I think!) but he was absolutely fine. We went to hosp at 8am , he was down in theatre by 9am (think they do littlies first )and we were called down to pick him up by 9.40am. He was a little upset as he came out of anaesthetic but soon picked up and by 11am was playing in the playroom like nothing had happened!! Then came home and ate massive lunch which is unheard of for my son! Think anaesthetic is light as they aren't in theatre for long so they recover v quickly.

Quick update on me - had 20 week scan and all well. Just trying to convince dh to go for 4d scan at mo! Have builders in house at minute building extension so have no kitchen which is fun but at least the work should be finished before baby arrives. Also ds been exposed to chicken pox so am just waiting to see if anything develops - think I had it when I was younger but have just been to get blood taken to check that I am immune. Least I am past the danger period for it affecting the baby.

Sorry to hear about the redundancies - all of dh firm in consultation at moment with approx 25% to go but we are trying to stay positive as his results, etc have been v good - it's just the uncertainty that's the problem especially when you are trying to stay as calm as possible!

Cheekycel · 02/04/2009 17:19

Im so hormonal today, in tears at the drop of a hat! Even crying cos my DP is working ANOTHER nightshift and i'll be home alone, as if the poor soul can help it.

Even resenting the fact that i feel like my life is no longer my own, that i no longer have a social life blah blah.

End of rant.

EvieBear · 03/04/2009 11:51

Oh the hormones and the ups and downs - I am having the same cheekycel - one minute overjoyed then overwhelmed at the thought of being a mother! I think it's normal...

Friday again - is it me or are the weeks going by at the speed of lightning?! Crazy.

Looking forward to our week's hol in Lanzarote on 19th April!! Will be 29 weeks and dr has written me a cert for the airline.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

PS I hate to keep harping on about prams etc but if anyone has experience of the Mutsy 4 rider I'd love to hear from you!!!!

Cheekycel · 03/04/2009 15:08

what a relief! im not the only freak around, thanks Eviebear

sorry i have no knowledge of prams, but i have googled it though and it looks stunning!

xxhunnyxx · 03/04/2009 17:19

Afternoon ladies! Hope everyone is well.

I'm all excited now, just booked to a couple of nights away in Windsor in September with my lovely Mum and of course baba. Got a real bargain too, we've got 2 nights in a 4 star hotel with dinner on the first night and breakfast both mornings and the grand total is costing us £50!!! I work in travel so it's a perk of my job .
Will be lovely to spend some quality time with baby rather than just being at home.

QueenFee · 03/04/2009 20:22

hunny that sounds lovely. Just what you need to look forward to.

I've had to visit the drs as keep getting the shakes and feeling hot. I'm worried it could be my Thyroid out or diabetes as I have never had this before. It goes after about an hour. Any one else had this?

The concensous is I am now HUGE. Everybody is stopping me to say this. I was really big with the other 2 though so I guess it follows. DH is still convinced there is a hiding twin in there
I don't mind really as it has no relevence on the size of the baby although I am expecting a 9lber this time.

I have to admit to be starting to get a wee bit impatient now. Not a good idea really as that will make the next 14 weeks drag!
