Thought I'd better get our shiny new thread up and running. New title courtesy of BumpBLump

part 3 thread title is bagsy(ed) by kitkatqueen, 'Its the second trimester!! - Does my bump look big in this???'

here's a link to our old thread.

Hawkmoth · 29/03/2009 15:48

Eep! Your baby must have moved onto needing something else. Have you tried Sweet and Sour Pot Noodles? They worked for me at my lowest point.

nuttygirl · 29/03/2009 19:05

Oh no Sarah . Erm...when I was pregnant with dd I went through a stage of only being able to eat ready salted chipstick crisps (and bloomin' heck they were hard to find - all the supermarkets sell the S&V ones only).

kitkatqueen · 29/03/2009 22:50

Hi Everybody, lurking or not!!

Hi sarah - seriously well done for retreaving the list!! I contemplated it a few times with all the newbies appearing but have'nt had the time.

Well dd1 has just gotten over her chicken pox and is now at the back at school scabby stage and now dd2 is starting to come out with spots!!! Had to do mad dash to the shops for more calpol, piriton and calamine in aqueous cream!!! Anyone want to lay bets on ds getting it next?????

Sarah - I've been going through a phase of only being able to eat mixed vegetables with rice and chocolate spread on toast or beans on toast with cheese!! Not exactly the best of diets!! If your old standby is suddenly no good you will probably get a sudden urge for something else entirely, hope the sickness stops soon!!!

Rachel1963 · 30/03/2009 10:17

Hi everyone, I've been lurking but haven't posted for ages. Have been really busy at work - busy in a good way, feeling very up about everything. Although I seem to have hit a wall this weekend and have been feeling shattered - still weary this morning.

Spoke to my brother at the weekend who got me in a bit of a tizz. He's an obstetrician and said that because of my age I should be seeing a consultant and discussing induction because if I were his patient he wouldn't be letting me go a day over my due date. So that's something else to think about.

I've got my scan tomorrow (22 weeks) so am feeling excited and nervous at the same time about that. We've got some other scans coming up this week haven't we - so exciting to think we're half way there!

Welcome to all the new people, I'm off to have a nap under my desk

Hawkmoth · 30/03/2009 10:44

I dread the day when the DC get Chicken Pox. It remains one of my worst memories. At least my sister and I got it together.

Good luck with your scan Rachel. Was your brother trying to be helpful?

I'm hacked off with work, feeling sidelined. Also got more energy and fewer qualms about speaking up. It's a good job my big boss is in London!

Baby has taken to kicking me in the bladder. I will be having words if it doesn't stop!

Rachel1963 · 30/03/2009 11:18

He was trying to helpful, I think, but he suffers from the typical medic's thing of always expecting the worst (probably because he's only involved when things get tricky). I do trust his judgement though so I've told him that if he feels that strongly and if I don't get any joy from the hospital, he can put in a call to the consultant and pull in a professional favour. TBH, I'm not that fussed about having an induction (had one with DS though they let me go 2 weeks over before they did it) and obviously I'd MUCH rather have an induction than have anything go wrong.

Chickenpox has been rampant round our way for weeks but for some reason DS seems to have a natural immunity. I quite want him to get it and get it out of the way before the baby arrives - keep taking him to play with infected children - but no, he remains spot free

nuttygirl · 30/03/2009 11:58

arghhhhhh

FFS today I've been sorting through all the paperwork that's lying about and thought while I was in a sorting mood I'd fill in the forms for MA and the Health in Pregnancy grant. I know I can't send the HiP one off until after 25 weks but it needs to be signed by a mw and stuff too so thought I could have the bloody thing filled in ready for her next visit BUT it's not available online. You have to get it from a mw or phone a helpline...so I phoned the helpline (not free btw) to be told I have to get it from a mw or gp WTF????? why not just say online the forms are only available from a mw or gp.

nuttygirl · 30/03/2009 12:03

God I posted a bit early there...I explained that I was having independent midwifery care (I know they'll be able to get the forms but because of how my appoitnments fall I kinda need it before then) and the reply was "Well ask your gp for one then and if he doesn't have any call us back"

cairns · 30/03/2009 12:14

Nuttygirl, it is soo frustratng when that happens isn;t it. At least we do get something now though which is great I got diddly when I had DS which was only a couple of years ago and buying certain things do add up (in my case multivits and tons of cocoa butter to try and avoid the stretch marks)

Well had a bad night last night, not only less sleep due to the clock change but was up half the night with DS who has a bad cough at the moment and wanted 'cuddling' to sleep/dozy stage. I will have to nip that in the bud when he gets better. So walking zombie at the moment, although I suppose that is 'practice' again for what is to come.

KKQ, chickenpox is awful, but I am also trying for DS to get it before this baby arrives if at all possible, to get it out of the way.

Feeling a lot bigger here, must be because they have told me that this one is likely to be a whopper and they have told me they won;t let me go over dates either. I have mixed feelings about it as I was OK with DS and I really want a natural birth again if possible and if I have an induction there will be less chance of that happening.

anyhow, lovely sunny weather today, will be playing in the garden this afternoon I think.

Hawkmoth · 30/03/2009 13:58

I don't feel big enough! I only have one bump picture from DD, and that was at 24 weeks and very obvious, although I was wearing dungarees (I became MORE fashion conscious as a mother!!!), plus about three stone heavier. TBH, I think I'm just looking for more things to worry about as a safety mechanism in case something does go wrong. Feel like slapping myself sometimes

I'm not sure I would like an induction again. It all happened very fast and baby was distressed, ended up with ventouse... but at the time I was SO glad it was over! I'm really hoping for a nice relaxed homebirth with no hospital stays.

I'll be spending my HiP grant on a car seat, sling and fresh pineapples

kitkatqueen · 30/03/2009 14:50

Hawk - I like your plan for the hip grant!! LOL

Fresh pineapple worked for me second time round tho! I avoided a second induction and had a totally natural labour ( except for my grp b strep antibiotics on drip )

Wish I could go for home birth this time round, but not willing to risk the lack of antibiotic coverage after all the problems with dd1. The hospital have said that even tho they have tested found me positive in all 3 pregnancies they will only give me the anti b's in labour if I show up as positive during this pregnancy but haven't arranged for me to be tested .

Yet another postit note stuck in my notes to ask the midwife about!!

Good luck catching chicken pox!!! I'm just glad that at no point will I have 4 all with cp at the same time!!

Hawkmoth · 30/03/2009 15:41

So glad I'm not the only one with post-its in my green notes.

On the fruit, feel I should share my top tip from the weekend.

"If you do drink a litre of apple and mango juice, try not to drink a litre of apple and mango juice". Oh the pain! I had to go and lie propped up on my front for hours!!!! Felt like a cow that had got into an orchard in the autumn. Smelt similar.

sarah76 · 30/03/2009 15:44

This morning I felt four very distinct kicks...very different from the wiggling that's been happening off and on for the last two weeks! Am now very excited for the scan next week.

Also wondering, if I can feel it so strongly now, what's it going to be like in another month? A little worried, but looking forward to when DH can feel it too.

LittleFairySmile · 30/03/2009 16:15

Wow Sarah ? sorting blue, pink and surprise must have taken forever!!! Well done!

Went shopping and to the local NCT sale yesterday (after walking to church as it was a nice day). On the up side got loads of bargains, including new nappies and wraps, a Moses basket and stand for downstairs and some Moses basket sheets. On the down side, got such severe back and pelvic pain I had to come home from work today! Left DS with childminder and spent day in bed! Seems to be easing a little now!

Hope everyone else is well!

ScummyMummy · 30/03/2009 16:46

Ooo, how excitng, Sarah. Kicks are the best. Maybe not on the bladder though, Hawkmoth! Glad a little sleep helped with the pain, fairy.

All seems fine with me. My twins were 10 yesterday! Can't believe I have such big boys and a tiny baby on the way.

Hope everyone is doing well.

nuttygirl · 30/03/2009 16:48

KKQ - don't know if you know but the NHS test for GBS is v unreliable and more likely to give you a false positive than the private one (£32).

LFS - great news on the bargains but pants to the pelvic pain.

Sarah - good luck for your scan. I'm getting kicks here too so am guessing baby has finally decided to move up and out of my pelvis finally.

Cairns - grr at lack of sleep. Am a bit about them not 'letting' you go over your dates - is that just because they think the baby will be big?

cairns · 30/03/2009 20:04

Nuttygirl, yes apparently they think it will be big again, big babies run in my genes unfortunately. Although I will be monitored this time with lots of growth scans up till birth. Depending on how big they think it is, they might advise an induction (although I understand I can agree/disagree with them!!) but they are right to monitor I think as although DS was 12 days overdue which might have caused some of it, his shoulder got stuck which led to quite a bit of last minute panicking... although still quite proud of myself I had him naturally tho.

Don't know what worked with us last time (we avoided induction by a day), tried pineapple, raspberry leaf, hot curry and DH's favourite .. sex (although he did feel a bit 'used' apparently )

Sarah - kicks how wonderful..I am really enjoying the gentle kicks too at this stage, it seems to be more noticible just as I am nodding off to sleep which is lovely. They aren;t that nice later on, when they start booting your bladder or ribs though. So I too am enjoying the 'nice' ones while they last

kitkatqueen · 30/03/2009 21:14

Hi Nutty,

I know it probably sounds daft but after the horrendous time we had with dd1 ( image of 3 padeatricians(sp!) arguing over my 6 week old as to whether to give her a spinal tap or not because she had been into hospital soooo many times already with suspected meningitis and telling me things I won't repeat on such a positive thread!)
I am actually hoping that I get a positive - false or otherwise! At least I can know that I am not going to have to go through that again! As much as I would love to have a homebirth, ( I've had no intervention / pain relief in the last 2 labours) the thought of the baby being positive again is just too much for me.

Cairns - how big are they talking?? My last one was bang on 9lb but only had a 38cm head, so after all their predictions of a dificult labour it wasn't a problem really, Spoke to someone about 6 months ago who had a 15lb baby naturally!!! blimey and I thought I had a chuff like a wizards sleeve!!

Hawkmoth · 31/03/2009 11:45

Oh this thread is too quiet! Makes me look like quite the sad case on here all the time. Today I'm jobhunting for DP, and sending some photos to my work. Then I suppose I need to tell my boss I'll pick up all the extra work that his latest bright idea has brought in .

A 15lb baby? Seriously? Bloody hell.

sarah76 · 31/03/2009 14:00

Add me to the list of people sticking post-its in their notes. Finding errors in mine every time I look. Latest is, apparently I've had a laparoscopy! I haven't, and I never said anything like I had. I had a hysterosalpingogram, which is NOT the same. They've also contradicted themselves several times about my mental health history.

Also, I'm listed as 'White British'. I'm not. Normally wouldn't care, but it's the form that they use to calculate risk of certain diseases, and it specifically states North American or Australian should be categorised separately. Not as though anyone could mistake my accent, and everyone I've seen has asked where I'm from and how long I've been here. Just fecking carelessness. My mom is a nurse in the U.S. with responsibility for some auditing, and she was saying how surprised she is by all the mistakes in peoples' notes--important stuff like allergies!

I'm bloody well staying at home as long as possible in labour--don't want these people near me!

Rachel1963 · 31/03/2009 14:12

I'm back from my 22 week scan and everything is fine! think the sonographer was more excited about it all than I was, she kept saying "what a gorgeous baby" and "look at those beautiful lips". I also got an optional extra - an internal scan - which has put me at low risk for pre-term delivery and/or pre-eclampsia so all in all I'm feeling v happy. Didn't find out sex though couldn't help trying to look and see whether I could spot anything. Have updated the list.

Hawkmoth maybe it's quiet on here because we're all off sticking post-its in our notes! I need to add a couple in mine...

Afternoon all. I've (sort of) caught up with reading the thread and now just posting quickly to book mark and say hi. We were away skiing last week which was fab and I even managed a few hours on the slopes . All well, I have my third 20 week scan tomorrow to see if baby has moved and the sonographer can check the heart... not holding my breath. Plus getting through the City from work to the hospital will be fun...

Will post more soon. Take care all x

Hawkmoth · 31/03/2009 15:02

Yes, I think it's time to write my list of questions for appointment tomorrow! I'm going with the fluorescent orange note.

Sarah, a MW asked me, when I was in labour, when I'd had my appendix out. I haven't. It was a big stretchmark!

Congrats on your scan Rachel, and glad you had a nice break 2HotCrossBuns.

I'm giving up the jobsearching for today, and eating chocolate instead.

quixotic · 31/03/2009 15:15

Hi All - I have my 20 week scan at (21 weeks) on 9th April. Very excited about it, feel less stressed about this one and just looking forward to seeing the baby - think that feeling the kicks is SO reassuring.

nuttygirl · 31/03/2009 15:27

Congrats on the scan Rachel

Glad you enjoyed skiing 2HCB. Hope baby has moved for tomorrow's scan.

Am bored...doing the book-keeping so sat with a HUGE pile of receipts. Dh sorted me out with a new database thing for me to use so I'm doing a full year of receipts at once
