Hiya quixotic congratulations and welcome

I bought myself a doppler yesterday, after deciding I wasn't going to , but I found the hb after about 20 mins, and the relief and joy was amazing, couldn't wipe the smile off my face for ages. The reason I went for one in the end, is cos after 2 miscarriages and this one not really moving around yet the anxiety was getting to me. I think I can feel it but not 100% IYKWIM. Tried it again today and found the hb very quickly, has anyone else got one?

Rang for my results today. They're back, and after second phonecall I she's getting Doctor to look at them for me (at first I would have had to ring back Monday) and I will know after five. Of course, I'm totally stressed out now as they normally tell you if it's a NAD.

Hi Hawkmoth good luck with the results. Do you play euphonium regularly btw? I used to play with a local orchestra but gave up when we moved. It was actually quite nice getting it out again even just to play nursery rhymes!

ive a doppler too, bought it a few weeks ago, its the bestman bf500b, whats yours? i bought mine second hand from ebay but it was like new only it didnt have instructions but there was plenty on the net on how to use it. its bril isnt it? i listen in maybe once or twice a week cuz i read somewhere you shouldnt use it anymore then 2 or 3 times a week. i found the heartbeat quite easy too, couldnt detect if there was a second one though id say midwife would recognise twin beats though.

Mines an angelsounds, got it off amazon via babymad. I paid for it Wednesday and it arrived Thursday, fab service. It is good, but thanks for telling me about how often to use it, I didn't know that, I would be using it all the time otherwise. It's nice that dh and ds can listen too.

I'm getting ready to head out for my scan. God I hate the not peeing part - as soon as I can't I desperately have to. I'm rubbish!

Phew, results all clear. Doesn't explain the green... I suppose your immune system 'downstairs' works extra hard at this time... weird though.

TOTC - I play Euphonium in two brass bands. Always have done. I used to take DD in her car seat when she was tiny, she loves it. Very good for the abdominal muscles . We've got a really really busy summer season, I'm going to be enormous and sweaty in parks across the North! Mind you last time I did the remembrance day parade three weeks before having DD so I should be able to cope!

am laughing at the mental picture of you and your euphonium and your nearly-due bump! I play the cornet, but felt very early on in pregnancy that I didn't want to play it because of the stomach muscles involved. Would probably be ok now but am going to be lazy until after the birth I think.

For lack of anything better to do, I've gone through the last 150 posts or so and updated the list with new people and scan results. Sorry if I've missed anyone, please fix it if I have!

MichaelaS... we're always looking for cornet players!!! The hardest bit about playing was having to readjust my positioning post birth - I'd got used to holding the instrument far away and all of a sudden had to move it four or five inches closer!

whereabouts are you? i'm in london and just got the cornet out of the dusty case a year or so ago. I used to play a lot at school, but haven't played at all in the last 10 years. finally decided the church band needed some more noise! my best mate plays the flute so we take it in turns to do a "floaty" verse then a "stonking" verse. or she does the verses and I do the choruses. I'm really not that good and my ombuture is terrible these days, but playing in church makes me feel like a superstar, everyone was so lovely and positive about it.

How is everyone? I am relaxing in the house on my own today. Very rare treat indeed. I'm probably going to drink a huge amount of Apple and Mango juice - it's my current favourite.

Well i have the whole weekend to myself!!! Bliss!!

I had a really cr*ppy day at work on Thursday and came home completely an utterly exhausted. DH had planned to go to a VW show for the weekend with his dad, but once he saw the state of me he insisted on taking DS with him rather than leaving him with me.

So I'm supposed to be realaxing and taking it easy, but I'm bored already.

I'm really tempted to do the tidying jobs that i never have time to when DS is around.

Well done Sarah, that must have taken you ages!
Hope we are all enjoying the weekend ... I am work, so not really.
I love my doppler, first got it around 11 weeks and although it took me a while at first I found it a real reassurance. I don't really use it now that I am feeling movements but for us worry mums it can be great. Mine is also the cheapy angelsounds one.
Just out of interest:
Does anyone know if sickness when pregnant counts when you have HR policies in place? My Dr mentioned it didnt but Im not sure...you see we have a policy where you can't be sick more than three times in a 12 month period...and I have had quite a lot of time off...

Bumpvlump you cannot be penalised for pregnancy related sickness absences.

Agree, plus is doesn't count if you are going for another job in the future... thankfully!

DP and the DSDs were only out for two hours, but he did bring me back pork and egg pie, plus some big satin pyjamas for when I get massive and immobile - how thoughtful... I didn't even ask!

BumpVlump, if you go on direct.gov.uk it says absence due to sickness in pregnancy shouldn't be counted the same as other sickness absence. I'm going to be dealing with this soon---my stupid boss feels it necessary to write me letters about my absence, send me the disciplinary policy and a copy of my contract, etc, etc. She's known I was pregnant since mid-January.

She also told me I only got 1 month paid and 2 months half pay because I am new. Checked the NHS handbook this morning and realised because I worked for the NHS in my last job (and had a break of less than 12 months), I am supposed to get 5 months full pay + 5 months half pay in my fifth year of NHS service. It just annoys me so much that she had me so scared. Knew I couldn't go back to work the way I am now, but was petrified about the money situation.

Thanks everyone for you comments re: the dickhead consultant. Actually he isn't even a consultant, he's a senior registrar. There is a team of 1 consultant and 2-3 registrars, so I'm not sure if requesting to see someone else will even work. I feel like any complaint I make will be interpreted as 'oversensitive fatty'. Not the first time I've dealt with it either. A GP who I was seeing for the first time decided to start in on my weight and when I said I struggled to lose weight, she (skinny bitch) said 'oh you like your food, don't you'. Then I told her about the PCOS and she changed her tune a bit! It takes a lot of effort just to keep myself at a steady weight and not balloon up any further. I lost a stone last year and kept it off, but it went unimaginably slow. V. hard going to Weight Watchers and seeing others succeed with minimal effort.

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.

Just popping in!

Got a cheap maternity top from Mamas & Papas today - only £5 instead of £18, they had loads of stuff on sale. Also earlier in the week I got a bundle of maternity clothes that someone on another forum was giving away FFP and it's lovely (jeans, black trousers, summer top, white & blue striped blouse and a black pinstripe blouse that still had the label on).

I also got a cheap trench coat from Tesco (lightweight so ok for summer too) for £20 and it only fastens near the top and flares out a bit so great as maternity wear.

We've also ordered our birth pool. I know it's really early but I didn't want to accidently spend the money we'd put aside for it. We've gone for the La Bassine one as it was cheaper than the birth pool in a box mini.

Thanks for all the advice RE sick leave- had a look at the direct gov website so going to armed when i have my HR meeting!

oh dear.....after three weeks of being the ONE food that never made me barf, macaroni & cheese has been knocked off its pedestal in a most spectacular fashion (more than one receptacle required). I'm not sure I can ever look at it again.

What the hell am I going to eat now???
