Oh and still waiting for my birth pool, to arrive. It is on the van for delivery today so am stuck in til it arrives.

Which birth pool have you gone for?

I'm not sure about getting one. Firstly because of the cost, secondly because if my SPD gets bad I'll be scared to get in and out of it. Thirdly I suppose because I'm worried I'll have a quick labour and 'waste' it! But, if the money was spare I would definitely get one!

I am worried about the quick labour too (kinda hoping my waters will break first again so I get some notice!) but figured if it went that quickly I can flog it on ebay and get most of the money back.

I've gone for the La Bassine one. We can only fit that one or the BPIAB eco mini in our lounge and the La Bassine had a little more internal space, inflated floor (so more comfy if kneeling) and was cheaper.

How quick was your first? I was induced and went from 2-10cm in 40 minutes. Would have finished quickly but DD had cord round neck and was having decelerations down to 60bpm so was ventouse.

I'm going to ask about this tomorrow at my appointment. Don't know how much faster my labour could be. Because they sell induction as a long and painful process due to the pessary, I didn't think I was in labour until I started pushing!

LOL!! Hawk - how bizarre I was asked about my horrendous stretch mark last pregnancy and it was my appendix scar!! How totally bizarre!!!

Spent all weekend craving Dried Apricots - and really wish I hadn't indulged!!

Now have mega craving for marmite on toast - whats going on. I have got to stop eating!!!

Mine was officially recorded as 2hrs 20mins. Not entirely sure how accurate that is as mw had to guess when it started cos she'd gone on her break and then refused to believe I was in labour

2nd time around after arriving at hospital mw said 'you've got a long time to go' but we'll keep you in seeing as you've driven quite a way to get here (how depressing is that for a woman in pain!). Left us to our own devices at which point waters went and baby was born an hour or so later (I think). It may have been a bit longer but it seemed like about 5 mins! Think that was put down as a 2.5 hour labour. First time around had induction and labour lasted 12 long hours after waters went!

My 2nd labour was as completely different from the 1st as it could have been!

Yeah, mw said mine could go either way - either I'm the sort of person who has quick labours OR it may be that my body had my quick labour first and this time round I'll have a slower labour that my first 'should' have been iyswim.

Difficult for planning eh? I'm trying to get together what to ask tomorrow, but not quite getting it! In an ideal world, I won't have to go to the hospital again until 41 weeks and I'd like to get things sorted.

My community MW is very good, but quite hands off even with questions!

hello everyone. i will apologise now, i have just caught up with the thread but my baby brain can't remember anything! everyone sounds very organised with their planning; i am hoping not to plan anything until i go for my scan at 36 weeks and see if i'll have a cs. my 20 weeks scan (22 weeks!) isnt for 3 weeks so not much to do but sit and wait. trying to sort out my maternity leave but still not decided as i have asked for longer than i am really entitled to. fingers crossed though....
hope everyone is feeling less sicky now.

I havent been around as it was my birthday on sun and then tomorrow is my DHs 40th!!! So have been busy getting stuff organised for that.
Glad to hear all the scans are going well. It feels like ages ago since I had mine. I am feeling loads of movement now, all day and at night......My DD1 is adamant that the baby is going to be called Ollie she gets really upset if we refer to other names

Evenin' all. Had my 20 week scan today. Everything fine, which is a huge relief! Baby measuring 20 weeks 2 days (vs LMP dates of 21 weeks 3 days), so looking more likely to be due on August 17th than 9th. Did not want to find out sex, so will remain a surprise, hopefully at least until August 17th. Obstetrician muttered dire oaths about the risks of Gestational Diabetes and high blood pressure at my age, so will have to go back to the hospital at 26 weeks, but hey-ho! she could be less friendly... I'm sure she's just being cautious.

Glad everyones scans are looking good.

I am getting lots of movement now, keeping me awake at night and woke me this morn... DP can now feel it too, very exciting! x

hi ladies, for those of you that had your 20 weeks scans, did you need a full bladder?

this past few weeks ive had twitch like feeling in my tummy which i thought was muscles stretchin etc but this week it has become very frequent, ive felt it aload of times. like when your eye twitches, thats how it feels, could this be the babies moving? im 20 + 3

Valz, I had quite a full bladder, and yes the twitchy feelings are most likely baby-related

Had my scan today. All looks well, bit bigger than dates, but to be expected as I am 5'9 and DP 6'3. And baby is, very obviously, a boy. I'd seen the 'area' before she asked if we wanted to know!

It feels a bit surreal knowing, not really sunk in yet... but very exciting.

Valz - This time round I had to drink for my 20 week scan (though it was at 9am so it was still filtering through when I got to it). Last time I drank loads and was told I didn't need to - at that hospital though the 12 week and 20 week scans were done by a different machine so it may have been that the one for the 20 week scan was better quality or perhaps baby was just high up.

Congrats to those who've had scans.

Not much to report here. Having a birthday party for dd on Sat but so far we have one friend (with dh & dd) coming, another maybe coming for the last hour and another maybe.

Am also trying to find some groups I'll be able to go to with a baby AND a toddler for after the baby is born. Have found 2 I think but they're very hard to find.

Gosh, I haven't had to have a full bladder for either scan. In fact both times (one at 11 weeks, the other at 20) the sonographer has made me go off to the loo so she could get a better look at the baby. At 20 weeks, the baby is basically behind or just below your tummy button anyway, full bladder or not.

The sonographer today said, "Oh, I can see your bladder filling up as I'm scanning".

I didn't make a special effort though, going very often and wouldn't fill a teacup!

My lazy baby wasn't . It was hiding really low down so it was a good job I'd drunk something...took her ages to get some of the measurements cos she was waiting til my bladder filled up a bit.

DH and I are getting ridiculously excited about the scan next week. Getting hungrier too--I thought digestion was supposed to slow down during pregnancy? It seems like I get rumbling tummy within 2 hours of eating now, where a few weeks back I was never hungry.

Valz, definitely think that twitching you're feeling is the babies! I'd describe a lot of what I'm feeling as similar to involuntary muscle twitching as well.

Phew - think I'm finally caught up!

Sorry been away for the weekend and then insanely busy with visitors and work.

Had scan on Friday and baby is healthy and spot on for weight/dates, etc. Bloody thing kept its legs crossed the whole time though which I was very upset about. Looks like we'll get a 3D scan through my job which is great because with DH still out of work we can't really afford it (although I want to know so badly I would pay for it if I have to but I'm happy to trade some pr writing for a scan!)

One funny thing that came out of the scan was the number of times the u/s tech mentioned the size of the baby's feet which has prompted us to refer to the baby as Bigfoot from now on!

Evening all. The thread mood seems to be generally chirpy at the moment which is nice. Things not so chirpy at home - DH still has no news on the job front although he did have a meeting today with some contacts that went well. He (probably) has the job if they decide to hire anyone at all...

Also we had our third 20 week scan today - baby still in the same position so the sonographer coldn't get a good view of the heart. We've now been refered to the cardilogy dept at the children's hopsital next door on the basis that if they can't see it, noone can... Noone seems worried or concerned, just not prepared to sign off that the heart is ok if they can't actually see it. Very frustrating. Anyway - it's been a girl all 3 times so am beginning to believe that at least!!

2HotCrossBuns, sorry to hear about that, hopefully the cardiology dept can have better luck with seeing bubs heart. Also sorry to hear about your DH. Mine's still unemployed too although he did have an interview today which meant he had to miss my 20 wk scan Fortunately a lovely friend stepped in at the last minute.

We decided not to find out the sex this time, but the sonographer referred to the baby as he. Only once. I've started another thread to get opinions as to whether she'd seen it was a boy or whether that's generally what people refer to babies as.

I'm going to be scanned again at 34 weeks because my placenta is a little low lying plus they found a fibroid near my cervix too! PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE I hope I don't have to have another c-section, I wouldn't be able to cope with the recovery this time because of having a toddler to deal with, DH has a paralysed arm so I have to take on his share too.

Cairns, out of interest how big was your last baby? My first two were over 10lbs, but my 3rd was a 7lber
