Trixy - hope ds is ok and your mum too.

Fingers crossed for all those with dh's looking for work.

I think the police are gonna have an extra few drives round this area. We told the neighbours (cos it was their car the guy was asking about) and she said that she'd make sure she locked her door all the time cos she sometimes doesn't if she's popping to the shop opposite.

My scan is on Friday . Have parents here from tomorrow cos they're looking after dd for us while I have the scan and they thought they'd make a mini break of it.

20 WEEK SCAN DATES
20th March - Nuttygirl
25th march - Trixymalixy
1st April - Haribosmummy
1st April - Hawkmoth
1st April - Heinzsight

Ohh Trixy - your poor mum (and obviously DS) I can imagine she feels terrible.

hi everyone, thought i'd post a quick update.

to everyone who asked whether i slapped my DP for his comments about exercise/fitness - i didn't, but i would have if i'd been able to stand up properly! he talked to his aunties at the weekend and appeared to be able to take their word for it that it's hormones that cause sickness not lack of exercise, so he's laid off a bit now

went for my 16 week appointment on monday. felt fantastic in the morning, like i'd turned a corner with the sickness & generally feeling crap. phlebotomist at the antenatal clinic was amazing, didn't feel a thing & i actually had to ask whether she'd done it yet! having my blood taken is usually v v traumatic by the way, i'm a total wuss. appointment with midwife was fine, blood test results & blood pressure etc were all normal. midwife was really lovely, said very matter-of-factly, 'so you'll be coming to UCH for all your appointments' - i wasn't going to argue!!! so booked in for next one at end of april & we're also booked in for our first antenatal class at beginning of june. she didn't say anything about referral to midwife/consultant specialising in mental health so am letting that one go for the time being ...

as the day wore on i'd been getting pains in my back, going down through my bum and into my legs. by the time i came to go home from work i could barely stand up or walk and hardly got a wink of sleep last night cos i couldn't find a comfortable position. went to see my GP at lunchtime, she gave me a prescription for co-dydramol (but can only take them at bedtime because otherwise they make me hallucinate! ) and some exercises to try. came home and almost immediately fell asleep on the sofa for several hours which was quite welcome. have got an appointment to see my osteopath on thursday afternoon anyway so hopefully some prodding from them will help.

hmm, maybe this update wasn't so quick after all ... sorry about that! off to take my hallucinogenic painkillers now & get to bed. n'night all.

Hi - just a quicky am at work. keeping fingers crossed for Hawkmoth, babybump2b and heinzsight dhs and dps and the job hunt. It's not easy out there. I'm worried about getting a job after maternity too, we rely on my income as well as dhs!

Last pregnancy dh was let go from a job when I was 37 weeks. He was quite new and they didn't keep him after his probationary period. A nightmare but the economy was different in 2006 and he got another job by the time I gave birth! Since then he's been through another 2 jobs and we're hoping job no. 3 he'll stay put a while (been there since Nov after another redundancy!)

Back to work now. Added my scan date - Friday, scared and excited:

Had my anomoly scan - was so worried but everything is ok and we are expecting a girl.

Me and DH looked like - well I don't know - after scan, hugging each other crying with sheer joy.

Want to start buying now but DH doesn't want to until June

Hawkmoth · 18/03/2009 12:28

Congratulations on your girl Clairdaz

DP has been on this morning wanting to go off sick until he's terminated. They are being total bastards with him . I'm just praying there'll be a job interview letter for him when we get home.

Hawkmoth · 18/03/2009 12:30

Bleurgh, just got off the phone to MY boss. I do not need to be taking dictation when I'm so hungry I'm about to throw up!!!

2HotCrossBunsAnd1InTheOven · 18/03/2009 12:44

Hello all. Going to try again with the post...

We had scan no 2 this morning. Bloody baby still in awkward position. Tried walking the stairs, jumping up and down etc but they couldn't get a good view of the heart. So we are going back AGAIN on 1 April. Anyway it's still a girl which was good to get a second opinion. Didn't see much of the baby as the sonographer spent the whole time trying to get an angle on the heart. DH has no patience with hospital waiting rooms and says it feels like such a waste of time to be hanging around. He's grumpy anyway as still no news for him either on the job front. It's been 8 and a half weeks now and he's beginning to get worried.

Everything else seems to be ticking along as normal. DSs are happy and I'm feeling pretty good most of the time. We're off skiing next week (booked in June last year!) which I'm looking forward to.

Sorry about continued sickness for some, esp Sarah. Hopefully it will pass soon. Hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy some of the sunshine. It's a beautiful day here in London.

VJay · 18/03/2009 12:51

A colleague's son has just brought in his new baby, and chips. I can't decide which I want to get my hands on more...

sarah76 · 18/03/2009 13:32

STILL puking. Not funny anymore! And my usual saviour, milk, let me down this morning. Normally I can have a few swigs to settle my stomach, but this time it came back up in a matter of minutes. V. disappointing.

On the bright side, I'm sure baby was having a good wiggle last night at about 2am. Hadn't felt anything for days, then last night was lying on my stomach trying to sleep and there was this really weird sensation. Once heard it described as 'a sackful of ferrets' and that seemed about right. Couldn't get to sleep for ages!

Fingers crossed for all those jobhunters. . .

trixymalixy · 18/03/2009 22:37

Hope everyone is doing OK.

Dh's work have put 300 people at risk of redundancy. He's not one of them thank God, but we're now aboslutely cr@pping ourselves that they announce more. We can cope with one of us being made redundant, but not both!!!!!

I have a bit of a moral dilemma about telling other people at work about a job I have kind of applied for. I woudn't be able to take it up until after mat leave, but the guy said that they might hold the position open if i was the right person. There are other people who are being made redundant before me though that could apply for the job. None of them seem to be searching very effectively though.

I keep telling myself that it woud be good karma for when i am applying in a year or so and they might put a good word in for me!!!

BabyBump2B · 19/03/2009 04:38

I'm here to whinge - sorry!

I feel like I am the size of a house and my boobs are huge! I've gone up at least 3 (probably 4) cup sizes already (and I was busty to being with) and I'm not quite 20 weeks. I've gained less than 10lbs but I am the almost the same size as a friend who's 28 weeks!

Will I grow the same amount again in the last half as I did in the first?

I feel so hideous and huge. Am so for those of you who aren't even showing yet!

Sorry for the whinge but I'm feeling really down tonight.

Clairedaz · 19/03/2009 07:30

Can anyone help - on scan notes it says under fetal measurement - FL - 3.5 20+6 but I am 19+3, does this mean that the baby is the size of someone who is nearly 21 weeks?

Thank you

LittleFairySmile · 19/03/2009 08:07

Morning all. Hope you are all well, and that job searching will go well today!

trixymalixy I?d say go with gut instinct and if you think other people are right for the job, quietly mention it to them. Things will look very different in a year or so (after all our mat. leave is up) so perhaps it is best to pay it forward?!

BabyBump2B I am sorry you don?t feel blooming with your bump and boobs. If it?s any consolation, apparently baby doesn?t have to grow as much now, it?s more about development (I think, someone may correct me if I am wrong, which I probably am!). I bet you actually look gorgeous for it, and I think pregnant bumps are beautiful. Is there any way you can have a little pamper? A bath or massage from someone? Might make you feel more beautiful!

Clairedaz from what I gather an ?average? baby will measure a FL of 3.5 when they are 20+6. This is an average, and if you look at the average woman we are all 5 foot 4 inches, weigh 10 stone 3.5 lbs and all have a waist of 34 inches. This is an average, some are bigger, some are smaller. IMHO doctors, consultants and other health care professionals get so very hung up on fitting the numbers they forget that variance is healthy. You wait until baby is here and baby doesn?t follow the growth chart they give you!

sarah76 · 19/03/2009 09:35

Morning all. I've just had macaroni n'cheese for breakfast (after the usual barf in the bin). Have finished my supply, going to try to eat something else, but envisioning a run to the Trafford Centre pretty soon.

The kid was wiggling again last night. Seemed to be same time as night before, and can best feel it when lying half on stomach, half on left side. DH says I'm squishing it. Have finally figured out what it reminds me of. When I was young, my dad used to take me fishing. We'd have worms for bait in a styrofoam container. If you held the container and were sitting still, you could just barely feel them wiggling and moving inside. That's exactly what the baby feels like to me! Not butterflies or bubbles or even nice furry ferrets...but worms! Still, makes me giggle.

trixy, go for the job! If you're a better candidate and they want to hold it open for you, that's the company's business. I don't think you have any obligation to tell your co-workers what specific jobs you're applying for. If you're finding good jobs on a particular website or something, sure, point them in the right direction. But you don't need to call their attention to that particular job. Or maybe I'm a competative moo?
