Oh lord, Microchips! There's an idea and a half!

Welcome Queenoftheharpies. You're welcome to send any spare tedium this way

ameNbump · 11/03/2009 18:59

Hi All,

Sorry to hear about the rubbish times some of you are having with appointments etc. That really is horrid, and not what you need at all

Am getting very jealous of those of you who have had scans/ heard heart beats already ...being due so late in aug means i will probably be the last to do all these things I still have over a month until my scan...Should be able to hear the heart beat at my 18 week check in 3 weeks though!

On the bump size topic, mine seems to have shrunk today, but had a tiny little flutter on the way to work today ...was singing very badly though, so maybe it was just my avacado telling me to shut up!!

Congrats on the lack of sickness sarah, thats fab news! Mine seems to have eased too...maybe we're entering that "things will get better" stage the experienced mums at work kept telling me about!! YAY

PS Haribosmummy...thanks so much for the advice on my post in the step-parenting thread...very helpful!

ameNbump · 11/03/2009 19:01

LittleFairySmile · 11/03/2009 19:26

Hawkmoth I totally agree with you that every woman should be free to make her own birth choices. I hope I was coming across as pushing an agenda! Sorry if I did.

ScummyMummy there?s a yahoo group vbac too, if you're interested. They discus on their site vbac v section. But do let us know what is said at the vbac workshop!

2HotCrossBunsAnd1InTheOven congrats on having a girl! Hope the next scan confirms it for you!

Becksydee I am so sorry to hear you being pushed from pillar to post at such a vulnerable time. I hate hearing things like this, bloody bureaucracy!

May67 hope your mum is OK.

Hi to everyone else!

becksydee · 11/03/2009 19:27

welcome queenoftheharpies

after all that, the hospital did phone me back. my DP picked up the phone (i was in the bath) and told them off for making me cry! kind of but it did make me laugh

magically, an appointment slot opened up at 11am on monday, so that's when i'll be going instead. feeling much happier now, although got a headache from all the stress earlier. ho hum.

love how everyone's started calling their babies their 'avocados' btw

LittleFairySmile · 11/03/2009 20:42

Yikes - just read my last post as "I hope I was coming across as pushing an agenda!" I actually meant WASN'T ...

I wasn't pushing an agenda I promise!

Yikes

Haribosmummy · 11/03/2009 20:42

Hi All!

Nuttygirl - I'm having the weirdest dreams too!!!

Sarah - Glad you are feeling better - hope you have turned a corner!

Becksdee - Apparently, St Thomas' aren't accepting anyone from out of area, as they are too busy, so I'll have to wait and see what happens... If I haven't heard anything, I will go private for my 20 week anomoly scan and take it from there...

I'm feeling really lucky - I don't have any cravings or sickness or pains... Just tired!! I'm already in bed and will be asleep shortly!!

night!

LittleFairySmile · 11/03/2009 20:43

And becksydee I'm glad you got the appointment!

LittleFairySmile · 11/03/2009 20:43

And becksydee I'm glad you got the appointment!

Hawkmoth · 11/03/2009 20:49

LittleFairySmile - no thoughts of an agenda at all! When I said that people should be fully informed, in my mind that would include some serious talkings to for people like my sister who thinks that having major surgery is better than an 'inevitable saggy minge'. Grr!

becksydee - funny how a bit of pressure works. Good luck for your appointment.

DP's been out freecycling tonight and we've got a rocking wooden crib, changing table and loads of bits and bobs from two lovely families. Makes it seem even more real. I must NOT use my DD's baby doll to try things out, that would be weird!!! I keep looking at it, it's a very realistic one...

Haribosmummy · 11/03/2009 20:54

LFS - I think your post was realistic based on your experience... A woman should have the right to choose and, if she chooses a VB, then that decision should be respected.

I know I would have felt extremely unhappy if, right at the last moment, I was told I was having a VB, because I wouldn't have been at all prepared for it (it was something I discussed with my Doula, incase labour started, but once in the hospital, I sort of switched off...) And I think the same is true for you IYSWIM... You weren't prepared for a CS, didn't feel consulted and didn't feel that the decision made was the correct one.

I think understanding both sides (and making sure you do understand the risks posed by CS) is a very valid point and one you are going to feel a little more strongly about, given your experience...

I hope that makes sense. I'm tired and probably rambling!!

Haribosmummy · 11/03/2009 20:59

Hawkmoth... at your sister!!!!

Ironic thing is, CS or VB, your body CHANGES after childbirth!!! I've been shocked that, even when I lost weight... well... it just wasn't the same...

I swear my hips are larger than before I had DS. In fact, I will put money on it... So, I think the idea that a CS will keep everything where it was beforehand is a bit of a crock!!

BabyBump2B · 11/03/2009 21:25

Wow this thread moves fast!

Hawkmoth - I may have put our dog in the stroller to try it out he wasn't impressed.

Becksydee - glad you got your appointment and Sarah you had a day not being sick!

And welcome Queen of the Harpies!

mamamila · 12/03/2009 09:20

hi everyone,

this is such a fast moving thread, it's hard to keep up with. i was just trying to see if anyone else has had high risk results for downs tests, mine came back as 1:10 and i've been in complete panic as you can imagine.
amnio today and should have results by monday. it's going to be a very long weekend.

my mindset has shifted to 9:10 chance of no downs, which seem good odds but it's still very scary to have got this far and have possibility of it all going wrong

hopefully i'll be back with good news

ScummyMummy · 12/03/2009 09:27

Good luck to you, mamamlia. Really hope the amnio will go well and it will be good news. I can only imagine how worried you must have been over the past few weeks. I think the waiting for news stage is just awful. It can be better to know what's happening one way or the other.

Sarah- devilled eggs sound good!

LFS- thanks I will check out the yahoo group, I think. Do I just google them?

ameNbump · 12/03/2009 09:40

Mornign everyone...It seems i spoke to soon about the sickness wearing off. The first thing i did this morning was hurl my guts up...all over my bedroom floor...I'd been drinking cranberry all night because of this horrid UTI, so there are bright pink splatters EVERYWHERE Was an hour late for work, and feel really miserable Am now locked away in my clinic room doing some "research" (i.e. whinging on MN!)

Sorry for the self-pitying rant, just wanted to let off some steam before patient number 1 arrives and I have to pretend to be happy, and not vom in their face!!!

Happy Thursday one & all xxx

nuttygirl · 12/03/2009 09:58

ScummyMummy - here's the link health.groups.yahoo.com/group/ukvbachbac/?v=1&t=search&ch=web&pub=groups&sec=group&slk=3

It might also be worth you joining the homebirth group cos a lot of ladies on that are aiming for a vbac too. health.groups.yahoo.com/group/homebirthUK/ is the link for anyone interested.

sarah76 · 12/03/2009 10:08

Hi all. Going to GP today to ask about SPD. Will most likely ask for another sick note as well. Talked to social worker on Tuesday and she thinks I'm in no state to go back to work. Outpatient appt with psychiatrist not available until mid-April (!!!), but she is trying to get one to come out and see me earlier.

Got a letter from my boss wanting me to sign something to refer me to occupational health because I've been gone for more than 4 weeks. She's also sent their disciplinary policy. She does know I'm pregnant, and all my sick notes have made it clear that this is pregnancy related.

Finally worked up the nerve to call about my triple test. I completely missed it last week (I am normally so organised!). They said I could come in today. Also asked the appointments lady if it was normal for someone classed as 'high risk' to not see the MW for 10 weeks after booking in! She said they weren't seeing me earlier because I was seeing the consultant, and he would decide if I could just be seen by MW or would need to see consultant and how often I should be seen by anyone. Felt a little better.

Did not puke yesterday (though felt like it after eating too much homemade tartar sauce). Obsessed with gherkins and mayonnaise as ingredients I think.

May67 · 12/03/2009 10:33

Thanks for your thoughts..Mum is back home now and doing much better thank goodness.

hawkmoth- LOL at the freecycling, had visions of that episode of friends where Joey brings Rachel the crib from the street with an animal in it! Unfortunately we already freecycled all our baby stuff to friends and family so will have re-freecycle it back!

Acupuncturist yesterday told me how she once caught a friends baby on a labour ward. Apparently this woman was having her 3rd baby and wanted her there to do some acupuncture for pain relief, 5 hrs in she needed the loo and so the acupuncturist went with her, the woman did a massive poo then whoosh...out came the baby! Apparently he's 16 now and hates how his Mum tells everyone he was born on a toilet! Just plain old ordinary birth for me please.

Queenoftheharpies · 12/03/2009 10:38

Re: hospitals appointment shenanigans - I still haven't had my booking in appointment! It's on friday!

I ended up in the EPU at 9 weeks at the end of jan for some bleeding (OK so it hasn't been that uneventful a pregnancy), had a scan, junior was there, heart beating away, all well.

I had an appointment for a dating scan for 6th Feb and I was breezily told that I didn't need to come in for that since I'd already had my scan, and that they'd be in touch re: booking in appointment.

2 weeks later I get a narky phone call from the hospital wanting to know why I hadn't been to my booking in appointment and I told them "because you told me not to". Turns out what they meant was that i didn't have to have a scan on the 6th Feb.

Being pregnant reminds me of buying a house. Nobody tells you anything, everything takes ages and the people in charge will only communicate with you in writing

becksydee · 12/03/2009 11:06

hawkmoth - isn't it just! feel a bit sorry for the poor receptionist who was on the wrong end of the (very polite) earbashing from DP! haven't tried freecycle for stuff yet, will have to start looking on my local one - went to an NCT nearly new sale at the weekend though and got loads of stuff for hardly any money at all. it was in a fairly well-to-do part of london so lots of mums getting rid of their baby gap & ralph lauren stuff for £1/£2 a pop it was fab!

haribosmummy - rubbish that you are being messed around. is there another hospital you'd feel happy about going to (apart from local one) if st thomas' don't change their mind?

mamamila - good luck with the amnio & results.

ameNbump - i've been spontaneously vomming a fair bit over the last week or so, have taken to keeping a bowl at the end of the bed just in case! really hope you feel better soon.

olivo · 12/03/2009 12:06

blimey, don't think i'll ever catch up!

re bumps, mine has been there since about 8 weeks but i also think that wearing maternity clothes makes it more pronounced.

littlefairy, i agree its interesting about the CS/no way thing and how people can be adamant each way! i can't begin to explain how much i want one; i know there are no guarantess, but after the lack of control i had last time and the fact that dd nearly didnt make it, i can't think of going through that again. i admire your attitude though. As i say, i know there are no guarantees but that first few hours of not having dd there and not knowing if she was going to make it, well, needless to say, neither i or dh want to have to go through that again. I was lucky (in a weird kind oif way ) that i got lots of help with dd - she was in scbu for a week and i was in for 8 days.
i'll let you know later whther i miught get my way- off to the hospital this afternoon!

mamamila · 12/03/2009 12:57

hi again,

well i'm home and on the sofa already, so i'll take chance to catch up a bit on this thread. there are just so many of us due in August it's mad

the amnio was fast and painless, i'm pleased to say and i think it may be a girl. the dr said she couldn't promise but she thought she was looking at labia!

i'm also hoping for 2nd elective cs but got a bit scared by mw last week that as first cs was because dd breech it was unlikely consultant will support a 2nd el cs.
what are other people being told re: el cs vs vbac?

olivo · 12/03/2009 13:05

mamamila, glad your amnio went ok. i am going this afternoon to talk about elective versus vbac. they are very pro vbac and said that when i first mentioned it, buti am hoping they woill take the traumatic circumstances of dd's birth into consideration in my case. my friend had an elective fro her second following planned cs for breech.
i will talk about it more once i've heard what they have to say. i started a thread in childbirth called something like will i be allowed a cs - there is some interesting info on there, particularly if you are in the UK.
