Have been catching up on posts, it's interesting that a few of you have been talking about pelvis and back problems. I ended up on crutches near the end of my last pregnancy due to SPD, I felt my first little sign the other day when I was carrying some heavy shopping, it was a little twinge at the front in my pubic bone. It's horrid. I've got hypermobile joints and it contributes greatly to my risk of SPD.

sarah76 · 05/03/2009 21:28

Welcome ameNBump! I was a late joiner too, only been here for a few weeks. And I'm a first-timer due at the end of the month (25th). I think first time babies are normally late, so it will probably be you and me hanging on at the bitter end!

Thanks all for responding re: my first-timer freak outs.

So the community mental health team people phoned today and are coming to my house tomorrow. Apparently it is a social worker and a consultant. Wasn't worried about it, then talked to my friend who said I 'need to pull it together and convince them I'm not going to hurt the baby'. Now feeling quite freaked out--what are they looking for? Why do they want to come to the house? Starting to wonder if they are even that concerned about MY mental state or are they just concerned about what I'm incubating? Quite paranoid and worried now. I can't handle the depression by myself anymore, I know that, but the thought that they might try to take the baby or say I'm not fit....that's just going round and round in my head now. DH is going to come home for it, so at least will have some support.

HeinzSight · 05/03/2009 21:37

Oh sarah76, pleeeeeeeeeeeease don't worry that they are planning on taking your baby away when it's born. They really will be wanting to help you as much as possible, be honest about how you're feeling and what your hopes for the future are. The last thing on their minds would be wanting to take the baby.

When I was going through PND last time, I was asked if I had any thoughts of harming the baby, BUT it's a question they have to ask. I really was in a very bad way after DD was born and there was no mention or hint at any risk of them taking the baby.

I do hope you feel reassured. Please please don't worry, they want to help you.

kitkatqueen · 05/03/2009 22:11

Hawk I can't believe no-one else commented on that either!!!

Sarah - you are describing what I like to call the rollercoaster effect. You got in and fastened your seat belt and now we're off!!!! Who knows when there might be a corner or a steep drop! I have had that feeling at the begining of each pregnancy in the first one it probably took about 15 weeks for me to realise the the true concequenses of being pregnant - but actually I was wrong. The rolercoaster has a driver from the minute the baby is born - its you.

Instinct and info on here ( which I never had with my 1st!)will take you most of the way and you are an intelligent person you will work out the rest! Don't stress about things you can't change and if necessary read "desiderata" about 20 times a day!

may67 As for eating cat poo LOLOLOLOLOL I nearly choked on my chocolate cake!!!

sarah 76

Totally agree with Heinzsight I know that social services have bad press for over or under reacting, but please don't stress over this one. They are not going to take your baby away. There are people round my way who are on meth ( nice area )who have care assistants running the whole family to toddler groups. The family unit is v important and they support families in lots of ways you wouldn't imagine just to keep families together. They are coming to give you help and support and need to talk to you to find out how they can do that. Please don't stress.

wikilivres.info/wiki/Desiderata

If you haven't seen it before read the 7th paragraph.

trixymalixy · 05/03/2009 22:37

readyfornumber2and3 that's awful! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that your DH doesn't get made redundant as well!!

sarah hope everything goes OK tomorrow. I'm sure it'll be fine.

i don't think i had thought very much about what you actually did with the baby first time round!!! you spend so long thinkng about labour, and that's what all the classes focus on that i was clueless about what to actually do with the baby!!

I agree with others that have said that you do just seem to know what to do when you have a baby. There's no-one else to do it so you just get on and do it.

MN is great for advice on everything from the major, to the minor. i remember going to the supermarket with DS when he was a few weeks old and getting out of the car and then thinking "How the hell do i do a supermarket shop with a newborn? If I take DS in the pram I can't take a trolley, but if i leave the pram and take the trolley, WTF do i do with DS?!?!?!?"

I just put DS' car seat in the trolley so couldn't fit much shopping in!! Then i came back and asked MN what is the right way to do it!!

The answer BTW is internet shopping!! (Oh and there are special trolleys you can strap the car seat in if you really have to go to the supermarket with a newborn!!)

nellyup · 06/03/2009 09:47

kkq thank you for posting the Desiderata - haven't read that for yonks and that, combined with a beautiful Spring-like morning has put a smile on my face!

I do feel for those struggling with aches, sickness, money worries etc, what a lot of people seem to be having a rough time at the moment.

sarah good luck today with the social workers but like the others have said, their aim is to help you not take your baby away.

Hawkmoth · 06/03/2009 10:25

Good luck Sarah today. My mum's a social worker, and they really won't be after taking your baby away. People you wouldn't give sea monkeys too are kept together in family units - they just want to support you.

Be glad you're in the system really, there's so little in the way of resources that you could easily have fallen through the gaps. They will just be here for support and to refer you to whoever will be best... so be honest.

Rachel - my SPD started at 8 weeks this time! My advice is, even if it's only twinges, to get into physio now. My pelvis still feels much better after my realignment, and having physio much before the sorry state I was in last time seems to have worked much better. I think that the less inflammation that builds up the better.

Sorry to hear of all those with work worries. My DP is having a rough ride of it at work, might get finished at Easter. I'm lucky in that my jobs safe... until just after I'm due to go back after maternity leave!

Anyone got any fun plans for the weekend? Got a family do tomorrow and hope to order DP round the garden a bit on Sunday - I can't do anything, obviously

kitkatqueen · 06/03/2009 12:36

Fun weekend plans??? LOL! Saturday, clearing garden at nans and sorting it out because its up for sale and not selling and spending sunday house hunting in suffolk!!

Its going to be a busy one!!

ameNbump · 06/03/2009 12:54

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

Sarah...Looks like we'll be last in, last out then eh?? I wasn't sure whether I should really be joining the September thread, as I'm practically due then! I hope today went/goes well...have been thinking of you this morning.

As for the weekend, I've got one of my best girlfriends coming to visit...Am so excited. It's been about a year since I last saw her, and I've been so low lately...DP hasn't moved in yet, and so he's 250miles away most of the time. He has recently been made redundant too...and to top it all off i got a nasty kidney infection week before last. (sorry, that wasn't meant to turn into a moan!!)

Still, the sun is shining & It's almost the weekend HOORAY!!

HeinzSight · 06/03/2009 13:27

OMG kitkat, that is soooooooooooo spooky, I haven;t thought about Desiderata for yrs, but was lying in bed (having not read your post) thinking about it ONLY LAST NIGHT(!!!!), in particular the part about avoiding people who are vexations to the soul, given the problems I've been having with a particular friend being mean. How weird weird weird!!!!

OP posts:
nuttygirl · 06/03/2009 14:14

Sorry in advance for the self-absorbed post.

Ams o fed up right now. I'm not sleeping well at all. Some nights this week I've had 2 hours sleep. Because I'm not getting enough sleep, it's set all my anxiety off (thought I'd got the better of that a year ago ) so I'm not wanting to go out of the house or drive. Last weekend I was ill on Sat from lack of sleep and the mw told dh he had to give me a full day of bed rest, which helped. It's not enough though - I feel like crap all week cos I'm not sleeping then he's at work all day while dd is here not napping much so I can't even catch up. Today I was meant to be going to a friend's house this morning and a baby group this afternoon. Dh had to arrange to work from home this morning so he could drive me to & collect me from friend's house. I ahven't gone to baby groups and have sat and cried cos dh didn't seem interested that I'm knackered and NEED sleep. I can't even relax/lie in this weekend cos his parents are here (which also means more stress).

valz · 06/03/2009 16:08

poor nutty, why are ya not sleeping are ya worrying or something? never mind the in laws, if you need rest and get a minute go lie down, take the opportunity and leave your daughter with husband and inlaws and get a few hours zzz's, if ya dont you'll run yourself down and end up worse then just feeling exhausted!

Haribosmummy · 06/03/2009 16:50

Do you think it would be OK if I joined your thread?

I'm due 7th August with my second child (Just found out!!!!)

Thanks!!

HM

Hiya Haribosmummy, Love the name and congratulations!!! Have added you to the list!!

Hope88 Congrats on a boy!! I'm laying betts that mines a boy too but I'll just have to wait and see!!

Heinz Its funny about desiderata isn't it - whenever I get really stressed I seem to find it calming - my favourite bit is the bit about me having the right to be here - I used to be painfully shy and always felt out of place. The 1st time I read that paragraph it was like a revelation.

I actually have a copy on my wall now ( sad case that I am) and have even found myself reciting it slowly between contractions. Its very centering if thats even a word! LOL! Very odd that it came to both of us at the same time tho'.

Sarah76 How u feeling 2day?? Tell us all about it... Hope you are feeling better about everything today, did you warn the social worker that you had a long list of hormonal mumsnetters backing you up LOL - I hope you didn't scare them!!

heinz LOLOLOL I just told DP about the desiderta coincidence and he is all spooked -

It is funny tho!!

kitkatqueen · 06/03/2009 18:55

BTW... Does anyone live in suffolk??? I need info on areas and schools etc...

nuttygirl · 06/03/2009 19:14

Difficulty sleeping is mainly cos of the baby moving about making me feel sick. Managed to get a nap this afternoon so feel a bit more positive now.

Welcome to the new people.

Hope88 - congrats on the boy.

I'm betting mine's another girl. I keep changing my mind cos some things are really similar to last time and some are so different but overall I think it's a girl again.

Haribosmummy · 06/03/2009 19:35

Thanks for the welcome and for adding me to the list.

my son was only born May 08, so this baby is rather sooner than we'd planned, but never mind!!

I have no symptoms at all and am not showing at all either... I didn't show with DS until after 8 months, so hopefully I'll get away with this one.

Had a scan today - and got some lovely photos... Not sure if it's a boy or a girl yet.. Will find out soon (to impatient to wait for the surprise!)

Will try to catch up with the rest of this thread.

I'm in West Herts by the way.

BabyBump2B · 06/03/2009 19:54

Haribosmummy and ameNbump Welcome to the thread!

Hope88 Congrats on the boy!

Sarah76 How did it go today? Thinking about you.

Nutty How are you feeling - sending sleepy vibes your way!

Is it weird that I'm a first timer and not freaking out? I feel like I should be and that everyone is expecting me to but I feel like this is like going on a big trip to somewhere I've never been before and I'm more excited and inquizitive than anything.

Hoping everyone is coping ok with redundencies. DH hasn't found anything else and there doesn't seem to be even lower level jobs available. Scary times all round.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend - we're expecting more snow!!!

LittleFairySmile · 06/03/2009 21:47

This thread moves so fast. Hi all, esp. newbies. Desiderata was lovely to read, very focusing. Sorry to hear first-timers getting anxious, I do think nerves are common, and I must admit even now I think 'how will I cope with 2?' but I just know I will. Haribosmummy whatever age gap you have is perfect for you because it works, it has to! Hope everyone is feeling more upbeat, even given the job/health/general life worries we all have. It is so nice to read people being so supportive. I love MN. Take care everyone, look after yourself, you deserve it!

ScummyMummy · 07/03/2009 07:04

How was the appointment, Sarah? Hope it went well. (Btw- the social worker who came won't be a children's social worker and definitely won't have the power to remove your baby. S/he will be a mental health social worker for adults and the purpose of her/his visit will be to discover more about YOUR health and think about what support you need. If they had serious concerns about risks to a baby or child they would refer onto children's services. They are coming to see you because you are depressed and need help with that, not to check out your potential parenting skills, I promise.)

I am looking forward to this weekend being a bit of a relax after quite a packed week with lots of work deadlines, not to mention father in law's operation. I've got another week of lots of work coming up before returning to my usual office the week after to announce that I'm nearly 5 months pregnant! Really not sure how they are going to take the news. I've been on a kind of training/sabbatical course in another office for the past 5 months, which they probably hoped was going to up my ability to do loads of work when I got back, and now I'm going to be off on maternity leave after 4 months instead!

Hawkmoth · 07/03/2009 11:34

Welcome to the new people. I wish I'd found out later, it already seems to have been going on for ever!

BabyBump2B - I remember with my first I didn't stress out at all, like you I just rode the wave. I'm so much more tightly wound this time it's untrue!

Hope everyone's feeling well and trying to relax. I'm just waiting for DP to come back from the shops with a pork and egg pie that I just NEED!

sarah76 · 07/03/2009 12:23

Hi all. First off, thanks everyone who wrote and said not to worry. I did read those before the appointment and felt much better. I think my friend's heart was in the right place, but she didn't do me any favours scaring me like that!

The social worker called beforehand to say the consultant wasn't going to be able to make it and she was running a bit late. She was a very nice lady who mostly just listened and didn't write much down, other than what medication I was taking. I think she was here for more than a hour, possibly two. DH was here the whole time and helped to tell my story. Think I would have just cried otherwise.

Fixing the medication is the biggest priority. It is clear the fluoxetine is doing nothing. She is going to organise for the consultant to come out to see me. Also talked about my job and how much I hate it. At the moment she thinks stay on sick leave because I'm not in any state to work. She wants me to talk to Citizen's Advice about MA vs SMP and what would happen if I quit my job at this stage.

I wish I could find some way to get more proteinI'm sure that's why I'm so hungry. But meat makes me feel sick, and I'm sooooooo sick of peanut butter now! I also feel sick when I look at eggs. I got some cashewstoo salty. Houmous--too garlicky (used to love the stuff). The smell of beans makes me yak in the bin. OK now I'm just moaning and feeling sorry for myself

Thanks again everyone.
