Sarah, I was contracting when I fell PG with No 1. My contract was cancelled two days after I told my boss I was PG (thankfully, I worked up until DS was born) but then I was only eligible for MA.

If I can answer any questions, I will!!

Glad your appt. went well.

nuttygirl · 07/03/2009 17:06

Just popping on. Weekend going surprisingly well. MIL has cleaned my patio doors for me . I stayed up late again last night and again I found it much easier to get to sleep so actually got more sleep than going earlier.

Sarah - Could you eat veg soup and put lentils and the like in it and blend it? That way you wouldn't taste them. Hope the consultant can sort out your medication. Fluoxetine was useless for me (found citalopram great).

TaleofTwoCities · 07/03/2009 19:04

Hello Sarah. I've been looking into MA as well as a contractor. It looks like I'm eligible for SMP but MA is not a bad alternative. The main difference is you don't get the weeks of full pay at the start (6 weeks for SMP I think) just get the approx £100 per week right through the 9 months.

So it's worth finding out about MA definitely....

ThatsNotMyPirate · 07/03/2009 21:22

Hello Everyone, I hope its okay if I join....although quite late!

I am due on 16th August and this is my second. I have a ds who is 19 months. Ohhh, and I am in Cumbria....any one near by?

I hope everyone is doing very well....I have had a read through and you all seem like lovely ladies!

OonaghBhuna · 07/03/2009 22:14

Welcome Thats not my pirate and welcome to all the other newbies.

I have to go to my Gp as I have been really itchy at night, legs, arms, back.Put up a thread on the pregnancy forum. It could just be a hormonal thing but there are more serious reasons for the itch so I need to get it checked out. Balneum cream has been recommended so I need to get that.
I didnt sleep at all last night because I was scratching.Hopefully it wont be as bad tonight.

Hawkmoth · 07/03/2009 22:31

Sarah, glad it went ok for you and hope that there's light at the end of the tunnel, and a solution seems nearer.

I had MA with my first, it counts as working full time for Tax credits, so make sure you start claiming them as soon as your baby arrives.

Welcome ThatsNotMyPirate

OoonaBhuna, the itching sounds horrific. I hope it gets sorted soon.

nuttygirl · 07/03/2009 22:54

Thatsnotmypirate - welcome. I'm not in Cumbria but all my family is there.

sarah76 · 08/03/2009 11:28

nutty, vegetables are also on the list of things that make me barf, unfortunately. I keep making veg stew for DH, and just the smell/look of it sends me running.

I don't understand....bland things like porridge and digestive biscuits are being yakked up. Then yesterday went to the cinema and had nachos with that fake, processed cheese. Not a twitch. Loved them so much, nearly went back for a second helping (finished them during the previews!). Now thinking we might have to go back to cinema today for more. DH is willing, if only to see me eat something that doesn't reappear.

Real cheese makes me feel sick, but completely fake processed shit apparently works! This would also explain my cravings for cheesy Wotsits. And why I can't stop thinking about American mac and cheese (with the orange cheese powder). May have to phone mom and get her to send some. Mmmmmmm.....fake cheese.......

Hawkmoth · 08/03/2009 12:23

I've started eating Mint Sauce out of the jar. I can't stop thinking about it. Someone stop me!

Funny about the things you crave, I've discovered horseradish sauce, and I keep eating it straight from the jar!!

OP posts:
Haribosmummy · 08/03/2009 14:06

Gosh!! I'm of the cravings (even the ones that make you throw up!)

I don't have any - didn't have with DS either. In fact, I don't have one single sign of pregnancy at all.

For those of you with cravings - when did you first notice them? And did you know you were pregnant when they appeared?

Pussface and rightbobbydazler - I notice you both have young children... How are you feeling about such a close age gap?
My DS is 9 months old now, so there will be a 14-15 months age gap between DS and the new baby.... Think it's going to be really hard work!!

Hope everyone is enjoying Sunday!

HM

sarah76 · 08/03/2009 15:21

Welcome to Thatsnotmypirate!

Haribosmummy, re: the cravings, only really started today. Before this, it was just a vague 'oh that might not make me puke, think I'd like that', but nothing like the 'i must have this or I will die' feeling I got today.

I actually braved the Trafford Centre on a Sunday afternoon because I read a wild rumour on an American expat site that said Selfridges carry kraft macaroni and cheese. I've never moved so fast! And I hate shopping, malls are like the 7th circle of hell.

DH said he would come along as long as he could go to a bookstore and get some lunch (also hates shopping). I actually started running when I saw the box. Couldn't wait to get home, ended up eating fake orange cheese powder out of the packet while sitting in the food court (cue weird looks from people sitting opposite).

Honestly, I haven't been bothered about American food for years--always thought people who paid the extortionate prices to get it were a bit odd/sad. Now finding it completely reasonable to pay a king's ransom for something that is less than 2% cheese and gives me my entire daily salt intake in one sitting.

Hawkmoth · 08/03/2009 16:12

Haribosmummy, my cravings are only just kicking in. But up until now, if I've fancied something I haven't been able to think about anything else until I got it. Salt and Vinegar Crisps, the RED Percy Piglets (DD gets to eat the pink ones) and a strange desire to eat all the pickled onions at a recent party.

Been quite strawberry-based thus far, the mint sauce is just weird. DP was quite concerned at me carrying the jar and a spoon around yesterday!

Sarah - I do not envy you the Trafford Centre. I can do it, IF I go in only the same six shops, and have a very long lunch at Tampopo or Pizza Express! If that routine is broken I have a meltdown.

ameNbump · 08/03/2009 16:19

Sarah...I can completely relate...My sickness got so bad tat I threw up all over myself in the car the other week..I was totally mortified, and had to get out of my car & walk to my flat, which is a bit of a treck, all covered in it...I cried & cried! Whenever I eat anything "good" or bland foods, i want to hurl...but chili doritios??...I just can't get enough! And salad cream too!!..It better had be worth it!

olivo · 08/03/2009 19:44

welcome to all the new poeple who have joined us

lol at some of the cravings. i haven't got any... so far. have started eating much better since my sickness tailed off although i threw up in style today!

oonagh, hope you get your itching sorted. i had it with dd for about the final 6 weeks and it was hell. i'd wake up crying with frustration at night and dh would have to mop me down with frozen flannels at ungodly hours. have you tried bicarb of soda in your bath? it helped me a bit - and wading in salt water if you happen to live near the beach

sarah, you sound like you've been having a really rough time; hope things are a bit better now.

I have an appt with the consultant this week, to talk about my last birth - am kind of dreading dredging up all the horrible memories but it might help me to move forward. I'll hopefully also find out if i might be allowed a c-sec.

loopylou25 · 09/03/2009 00:18

hi all

oonagh definatley make sure you get itching checked i had similar thing in last pregnancy and i had cholastasis a liver condition you get in pregnancy.
hope it gets better.

im full of cold and sore throat again not long got rid of it.Both my girls have had it too. Im so exhausted all the time still, need a decent nights sleep just cant seem to get comfortable at moment. Were moving next week to so all extra stress been trying to pack but just dont have the energy.

I havent really had any cravings just loving crisps and eating what i fancy really. With my other two i craved bananna milkshake.

ThatsNotMyPirate · 09/03/2009 09:27

I am so sorry to hear that a lot of you are still feeling/being sick! Hopefully it will stop soon. :D I have been lucky both times really...none at all with DS and only mild neasea with this one.

And Cravings! I have had none so far....although if I eat the same thing more than one day in a row at work I get 'accused' of having a craving for it! (that and continually being asked being asked how I am feeling/comments about my growing bump are driving me insane! Its going to be a long 4 months til maternity leave!!) Had a massive thing for oranges last time...and kitkats (but think that it was more of an excuse than a craving!)

I do keep getting lots of aches and pains in my tummy. DH says I obsessed continually was concerend about them last time and that it is just streaching/growing pains. Which, of course, I am sure he is right. I just seem incapable of remebering anything about this satge of pregnancy from last time....and DS is only 19 Months!

Anyone else had the same achy pains?

sarah76 · 09/03/2009 10:41

It just gets worse and worse. Now think I have SPD. Loads of pain last night, trouble walking and going up stairs, couldn't find a comfortable position in bed. Then had to keep getting up due to diarrhoea---stupid American macaroni n'cheese. Realised that I didn't eat anything else yesterday, apart from a few of DH's chips at the mall. I'd had a few bicuits and milk too, but barfed those up rather quickly.

This morning barfed a load of clear stuff, then turned yellow at the end---bile, or yellow dye no 6 from mac n'cheese?

Yesterday discovered I missed my appointment for the triple test. Was supposed to be wednesday. This is completely unlike me--normally I am militaristic in my organisation. Feck. Feel like I'm losing my mind! I am not doing this again! This kid will be an only child, I don't care.

thatsnot, your work colleagues sound v. annoying, don't know how you put up with it.

olivo good luck with your consultant appt!

Haribosmummy · 09/03/2009 10:56

*that'snotmypirate' - My DS is only 9 months old now yet I seem incapable of remember how I felt at this stage with him.

I'm extremely lucky to be feeling fine - I've told a few people I'm pregnant (I'm about 19 weeks now) but you wouldn't guess if you didn't know, IYSWIM...

sarah - sorry you seem to be having SUCH a tough time of it. I never got SPD, so can't comment, but I hope you are feeling a bit brighter today. About the missed appt., I did find that my brain seemed to turn to mush when PG - I now carry a note book and diary everywhere... If I don't write stuff down, I won't remember it!!!!

Olivo - Hope your appt. goes OK and it's not too painful... I hope you are able to get the CS if you want one (I had one last time, and am ADAMENT I'm doing the same thing this time!!!)

becksydee · 09/03/2009 14:47

ameNbump · 09/03/2009 18:26

Welcome Beckysdee...Im quite a newbie too...also baby number 1...nice to have another late aug EDD!

Just a bit of a query...Though it may be my paranoia... A few of you have said you're not showing yet...I have a definate little bump now. Was off work for a week last week, and got back today to comments of "OOOooh, the baby's definately there now" etc...am worried I'm getting too chunky for 15 weeks. Do other people have a definate bump, or should i not be showing yet? This is my first and i thought you don't really show with your 1st till much later

Just wondering really...Hope you're all ok.

A xxx

Haribosmummy · 09/03/2009 18:33

Honestly think it's totally individual ameNbump... I didn't really 'show' with DS unil I was 6-7 months PG and you wouldn't have immeadiately known I was PG until after 8months.

I'm coming up 20 weeks now (19, to be precise ) and no bump yet...

But I met a woman a while ago who'd had fertility treatment and she had a bump at 6 WEEKS!!

I think it's really down to the mum!!

becksydee · 09/03/2009 18:49

thanks for the welcome ameNbump

i'm not showing yet at all - jeans are a bit tighter than they were - but i have a flabby belly anyway, so it'll probably be a while before i get a more definite bump!

cairns · 09/03/2009 19:23

i have a definite bump now although it is a little podgy courtesy of DS1 (about 19wks I think), although I still feel fat. People I know really well can tell, whereas those less so haven't noticed. Although the thing to notice with me is my norks (already 2 cup sizes up from a B to D) thats what gives it away!

With DS1 I was 'fat' for a bit but had a bump around 15-16wks I think. It depends on the clothes you wear too I think as how pronounced it looks

TaleofTwoCities · 09/03/2009 19:44

Re bump or no bump I have a small bump that I know is there but not sure if others notice it. It's quite amusing to see whether people who don't know about the pregnancy guess or look at you strangely. There are quite a few people at work who I haven't told yet!
