Do you have the same grandma as my DH???? She had loads of random stuff when she died

DH always tkes stuff back if we haven't used in a ages. Like my dermitis cream so when it flairs up I have to buy more, it really annoys me!!

Astarte · 12/02/2009 13:37

She had Alzheimer's Kayz which prolly explains her hoarding

We found tons of stored stuff in her flat when we cleaned it out. Bizarrely though my grandad was still alive and living with her but didn't know about any of the stuff she'd pilfered away.
She'd stockpiled cotton handkerchiefs in the hundreds, almost all had never been opened.
She'd hidden over 2 thousand pounds in shoe boxes and folded laundry, but hadn't taken it to the bank when the ne notes came into effect so it was useless. She had boxes of sanitary pads and tampons hidden under the bed (she was 78!)

It was quite sad really.

kayzr · 12/02/2009 13:53

DH's grandma had earl onset of Alzheimer's when she died. But she did of cancer. She first found a lump 11 years before she died but didn't want to see a gp. She fell over and broke her leg and they found she had breast cancer, bone cancer and it was spreading. It was horrible.

Hello...

lastboxoftampons · 12/02/2009 14:28

Hello everyone!

Sorry to hear that labour has kind of stalled, Astarte and LB...maybe it's the calm before the storm?

Tink I used to get my eyebrows waxed about every 6 weeks or so. Didn't need to be shaped very often, it was more of a 'cleaning up'. But that was when I was still living in NY and it was all so cheap I still maintain that a manicure is the most fun you can have with a $10 bill in New York City!

OS, so sorry your architect is flaky! How is it that the entire building industry gets off with being totally useless and inefficient? If we were that crap at our jobs we'd certainly lose them! There must be some kind of exception for builders and related trades!

So, next Saturday is our 5 year anniversary and I'm supposed to get DH something 'wood' according to those stupid tradition thingies Any ideas???

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 12/02/2009 14:40

Hello LBOT

How are the movements? did you get anymore?

Wood... thats trickier than paper (got DH an origami set!) wooden photoframe? though thats a bit lame...

lastboxoftampons · 12/02/2009 15:52

Hi GYO - no more movements, although I haven't been concetrating on it too much. I just had a brownie though - you know, to see if the baby likes chocolate

I'm not sure a photo frame is going to cut it unfortunately. A few years ago my dad made him a cuff link box at my request - I didn't pay for a thing commissioned it! The only idea I have for right now is one of those vices that the Spanish put legs of jamon in in order to slice it. I know that sounds totally weird, but he loves his jamon! I ordered him one from Spain for his birthday a few years ago - I just don't think I'd likely do it again and so the vice wouldn't get much use...

ohsnap · 12/02/2009 16:06

Oh thanks GYo, I was just about to say that I got DH a wooden photo frame for ours! I did fill it with all his favourite pictures of us on our travels and the DDs though.

Yes we are doing a barn conversion. Well when I say 'doing' what I mean is 'wading through paperwork and trying to get to the point that we're allowed to lift a finger'. Nearly there though, just a couple more hoops of fire to leap through. Our architect is a complete tosspot, I won't bore you with the whole very very long story, but basicly he isn't at all proactive, we keep having to prod him to get things done, a couple of times I've directly asked him if something needs doing, he's said No, probably not, then a month later will send a quote for doing it. It's all just so frustrating. We've just been to see him though and have sorted a few small things so now we've just got to wait the structural engineer's report and we should get provisional building regs soon and will be able to start work

Blimey what an essay, can you tell it's been on my mind a bit?

lardybump · 12/02/2009 16:28

Evening all.... I have been so busy my house is sparkling (well the downstairs is I havent got around to upstairs yet)....

Diege i got P&T from Oxford Pram Center I am very impressed with the service and the price...

Well I am having lots of movements today so feel a lot happier....

I have never had my eyebrows done, I dont know if it will suit me. I dont have bushy eyebrows anyway!!!

kayzr · 12/02/2009 16:30

mommyinthemiddle · 12/02/2009 17:09

i'm here lurking, checking daily for birth announcements lb, Astarte

Glask- hope you are doing ok, take care and rest.

L&B sounds like excellent service with the pram, what colour did you go for?

Kayz- like the hiring of camping gear, my only worry would be if something happened to it! Can you purchase insurance? Last summer we went down to cornwall with newly purchased tent and the winds were terrible, ending up leaving 3 days early after poles snapped and tent ripped

Diege- i've always said your name as de-a-g like diego without the o?

Lbot- yea for movements, won't be long until the bean doesn't stop wriggling.

Tink- i have had my eyebrows shaped, but always think i do a better job myself, quite fancy threading thou!

ohsnap- builder sounds a nightmare. when are you hoping to complete?

Gyo- thanks you reminded me about arnica tablets. Where did you get yours from?

Gruff- hope your feeling better soon.

Ses- sorry you are finding the driving uncomfortable. We use to live about 20 miles from Telford in Shrewsbury... Not a very big place.

Well i took DD2 to Wacky warehouse today as freeplay all day. She had me climbing and sliding, after the third time on the big slide i gave up as bump was aching. A lady actually said to me, your baby will be wondering what is going on!
Then went to town, to library to return books and get a DVD and then some lunch.
Trip to boots to get a bag of medication! Rennies- the dreaded acid burning throat has appeared!, pregnancy vitamins and spatone as i'm positive i'm anaemic. For anyone who buys, minerals, or vitamins, boots have them on 3 for 2.
Started snowing whilst walking home, so will probably have a white garden soon! Oh how i wish it was summer. Now wearing DH's waterproof/fleece coat as more comfortable.
Spoke to another mum at school who just had her 3rd child on sunday night, she nearly didn't make it to the hospital on time it was so quick!

kayzr · 12/02/2009 17:13

Just heard from Glask. She has lost all of her show, 2-3cms and her waters are bulging. No contractions but not expecting baby to stay put until she is due. Keeping everything crossed for her!

OP posts:
ohsnap · 12/02/2009 17:16

Eep Kayz, that sounds a bit serious, how many weeks is she?

lardybump · 12/02/2009 17:21

I dont believe it I was just showing dp how to set up the P&T and when I undid the zip the bloody zip fob came off in my hand, and the metal has broken so cant put it back on.... I am going to call them tomorrow and say that it is not good enough and that I need a new fob......

kayzr · 12/02/2009 17:32

31 weeks. They have said that if she gets to 34 weeks there is a good chance that the baby won't need special care.

OP posts:
mommyinthemiddle · 12/02/2009 17:49

Send her our love Kayz. I have everything crossed that the babe stays put for a little longer.

LB- that is definately not good enough.

Astarte · 12/02/2009 17:51

Goodness, has she had the steroids then for the babies lungs? How worrying for her!

Hope everything's okay......and tell her to get back in line, there's a queue to give birth and we can't be havin' queue-pushers in 'ere

Astarte · 12/02/2009 17:52

LB that's terrible. I'm sure they'll replace the part though. Might be worth checking over the entire buggy for durability before you ring them, see if anything else looks shaky on it.

Astarte · 12/02/2009 17:55

MIM was wondering where you were, but realised halfway through your post that you haven't been missing at all.....I'm just stupid with a crap nc memory

Glad to see your update anyway

Diege · 12/02/2009 17:59

Fingers crossed GLASK can hold on; will be thinking of you xxx
ASTARTE, June is years way Oh meant to ask, have you had that baby yet??
MIN, agree, really wish it was summer (for weather, not labour )though there again what summer weather??!! Thanks for vits tip-off - will get my next lot from Boots now
KAYZ, cute pictures of ds!
LB, agree zip fob coming off not acceptable. What a shame too after such fast delivery!
Off now, as dd3 back any minute and I have loads of exam scripts left to mark. I can't wait to have an evening where I can just slob out!
Night all xxx

kayzr · 12/02/2009 18:02

She hasn't had the steroids as there are no signs of labour.

OP posts:
lardybump · 12/02/2009 18:43

Fingers crossed for you Glask.....

I have emailed the OPC and will call them in the morning...

It is snowing hard here as well now....

Astarte · 12/02/2009 18:54

We have just finalised our baby's name

We've deliberated and debated over whether she should have a middle name and what that should be if she does, but we've just both had the same lightbulb moment!!

Now all we need is the child herself

Well, as you you were....
