BabyBolat · 03/02/2009 12:58

Oh good so my 'big baby' might actually be small!! yay!

LuLuBai · 03/02/2009 13:00

who knows BB - I just found that they aren't very accurate. Saw lots of different sonographers and she kept coming up as small.

This one is on the larger end of the scale allegedly but I'm convinced my bump is smaller.

BabyBolat · 03/02/2009 13:02

They just tell me this one is long but then he or she has never stayed still enough at any scan to get proper measurements!

B52s · 03/02/2009 13:03

Hi Electra I saw the midwife too this morning and she said I'm on the small side ofr my dates. Apparently this could be bad for birth as it could mean more bleeding, but she reassured me and said it was probably just about to have a growth spurt. My next appointment was brought forward from 6 weeks to 4 weeks but no scan required so not much for me to worry about. Twill be lovely to see your LO again - good luck and try not to worry.

On another note, I picked up my Health in Pregnancy pack this morning, but still haven't got my MATB1 form. Work hasn't asked for it yet either, so am hoping another month won't hurt. Any advice anyone?

With second babies they seem far less bothered than if it's your first.

LuLuBai · 03/02/2009 13:03

Time will tell.

LuLuBai · 03/02/2009 13:07

Apologies Electra and Puzzle - completely missed your first post and thought Puzzle had crossed conversations.

Don't worry too much. As I said, the scans are not that accurate when it comes to measurements. DD was 56cm when she was born. Small - pah! (Have a look at 56cm on a tape measure. It's scary!)

PuzzleRocks · 03/02/2009 13:08

Lulu - What do you mean wrong thread. Have I done something daft?

PuzzleRocks · 03/02/2009 13:10

Oh we crossed again

LuLuBai · 03/02/2009 13:11

No - I have Puzzle. I'm a plonker and I just didn't see Electra's first post so I was confused. Have gone back and read them all.

Sorry. Trying to keep up with chat while preparing and feeding crazy toddler her lunch. That'll learn me not to multitask.

Bleuravin · 03/02/2009 13:17

Poo. I wake up from a nice nap because of a silly call from a telemarketer AND find the sun out and the snow mostly gone...

electra · 03/02/2009 13:17

Thanks everyone A midwife measured my bump two weeks ago and it is now measuring smaller than it did then. But this was an evening and with this pregnancy, from the very beginning it has caused a lot of bloating which gets worse at night. So I think that could be the cause of the apparent discrepancy.

My other babies were both over 8 pounds (you know how they plot new pregnancies against previous ones). I doubt this baby will be really small. My bump is, I think smaller although I can't remember because dd2 is 5 now. But this baby also has a different father and he is shorter than my ex-H.

Bleuravin · 03/02/2009 13:20

Is it normal during pregnancy to have a bruise and a terribly sore arm from giving blood 4 days after the fact?

PuzzleRocks · 03/02/2009 13:20

I there a correlation between sibling sizes then? DD was 8lb 8.5oz and i'm very narrow hipped so I was hopng for maybe a bit smaller this time. Is that a terrible thing to admit?

PuzzleRocks · 03/02/2009 13:21

Belue - Did they have trouble finding a vein?

BabyBolat · 03/02/2009 13:22

Electra I think it sounds like there are lots of reasons for you not to worry, like you said, could just be bloating etc - I get really really big if I have any form of wind or constipation - my bump literally feels like it doubles so sure the scan will show everything is normal and you can enjoy seeing you LO!

Are you a different body shape to when you had DC1&2 as that can affect it (dependent on your stomach muscles etc)

PuzzleRocks · 03/02/2009 13:22

Sorry, Bleu.

Bleuravin · 03/02/2009 13:22

Al of my sisters and I were about the same... upper 7lbs to lower 8lbs...and we've grown up to be inches from each other... but could be coincidence

BabyBolat · 03/02/2009 13:25

We (me and my 2 sisters) were all similar sizes but are all massively different in height and weight now (I am very short, my eldest sister is almost 6ft!)

oooh I am hoping for a 7lb baby - 6 is small but ok but anything over 8 scares me silly!

Bleuravin · 03/02/2009 13:25

No not really, but they did choose the right arm... and I know that whenever people try to take blood from the right arm I don't fair so well... I hate giving blood and have only ever had 1 good experience with it... But I've never had such a sore arm before...it's like the arm has a the flu (if you get what I mean)

30 Apr : Nutty Taff 2nd DC GIRL!

It's only a day different but suddenly it doesn't seem that far off and the detail seems a little more relevant.

How are you feeling today, Nutty? Are you literally confined to bed?

BB, I have nausea back too - not like the first trimester, but a little similar, related to tiredness I think, sometimes not exactly a feeling like wanting to vomit but a sort of physical wave of suddenly-flaky-want-to-be-horizontal type thing.

Snow still so pretty! Do the West Country peeps have it now too?

BabyBolat · 03/02/2009 13:28

I really want to go for a nap but I am supposed to be working from home!! grrrr

LuLuBai · 03/02/2009 13:28

BB - don't worry about size too much. I think baby's position and general luck has a lot to do with ease of birth.

I know I'm repeating myself but I didn't find giving birth that bad.

Bleuravin · 03/02/2009 13:30

Take a 'lunch break' nap BB

LuLuBai · 03/02/2009 13:33

Gingersarah - the lunchtime news is telling me that the west country is currently getting hit by blizzards but as I look out of the window it all looks like it's melting fast.

BB - don't mean to make you jealous but I am seriously considering a nap this avo. I am so tired. If I can get DD to sleep I will go to sleep too. But I think she is an insomniac.

I was reliably informed that babies slept lots and continued to have daytime naps until the age about 3. I'd like a refund please. Mine appears to be faulty.

BoffinMum · 03/02/2009 13:33

Hello, I was with the MW - she is coming over weekly to make sure I am alright. She is soooo lovely! She was here 2 hours and even did DH's blood pressure for him!

Interesting information from MW.

  1. WW core food plan and Slimming World red plan are both fine in pregnancy, apparently, as long as you are sensible about eating enough. MW thought this was a good idea for me if I have already piled on the weight. She thought the high fibre content of the diets was particularly good for pg people on codeine phosphate.
  1. Swelling in thighs is almost certainly because I have been lying in bed all day and refusing to wear my flight socks (because they are too old ladyish). Have now put flight socks on and I am being a good girl.

MW is even coming to ante natal clinic with me on Thursday if none of her ladies are in labour, which is brilliant.
