idontbelieveit · 30/01/2009 11:45

thanks so much for all the lovely messages
dd1 out with dh and dd2 fast asleep so i'm trying to catch up but feeling a bit woozy so excuse crazy mispostings!

LittleMissNorty · 30/01/2009 11:47

Had my pre-op assessment.....managed to get and parking space and DD behaved herself and I still sat in the waiting room in tears........what is the matter with me....

bloody scared I think

MamaGoose · 30/01/2009 11:48

Oh, and thanks all re. baby's position. Am not slouching, trying to walk lots and err, spending lots of time on my hands and knees. Oh joy. But I guess this gives hope to all those whose babies are in a rubbish position that they really can move at the very last minute!

idontbelieveit · 30/01/2009 11:54

LMN i cried and cried when i arrived for my section but after waiting from 8am until 3pm to go into theatre i ws so bored and hungry the nerves had lessened somewhat. it will be better than you think i promise!
Got to go and attend my milk monster now

MarkStretch · 30/01/2009 11:56

It wasn't meeeeee! It was that pesky Swampy.

Good to hear it went ok LMN, it probably is just nerves, I think we're all starting to feel it now!

I am wavering between feelings of nerves, extreme nerves, ridiculous amount of nerves, excitement, really looking forward to holding my baby in my arms and also looking forward to not being pregnant anymore!

MamaGoose · 30/01/2009 11:58

Markstretch shhhh. I am so jealous as I am clearly going to be pregnant forever.

dinkystinky · 30/01/2009 11:59

LMN - you're tired and really emotional; no wonder you cried even though everything went right. Get some chocolate in you - those happy hormones will get going. And remember - its an elective C-sec this time round and as both IDBI and Herbgarden have said, that makes all the difference.

MrsY - thanks for that. Will be customising right back to the old site to save my sanity...

Markstretch/Swampster - you should take your double-act nationwide!

Right, am all packed up, maternity leave notes all done and I can now officially start maternity leave - hurrah. Off to toddle home now to relieve nanny and spend time with DS and MIL (who I will be roping into helping me with the cake making this afternoon).

LittleMissNorty · 30/01/2009 12:00

I can recognise all those feelings MS......thanks IDBI.glad I'm not the only one......I'm sure I'll be ok but blimey, its all very real now. Why did you have to wait for so long? - I've got to be there by 7am....I really don't want to wait all that time....I've asked for a private room...don't know whether they'll let me though...if they don't, I'll be so worried about my snoring, I'll end up not sleeping at all.

Bloody hormones

MarkStretch · 30/01/2009 12:17

LMN- I have to be in there for 7am too. My midwife said if I'm feeling really nervous, especially after waiting then to ask for some diazepam. I'm going to request it at my pre-op today, she said the consultant can order it and it will be there for me to take on the day if I feel I need it. She also said that they keep supplies on delivery suite.

I would far rather be relaxed and enjoy my birth than be a freaking wreck.

LittleMissNorty · 30/01/2009 12:29

Sounds like a good idea MS....are you Monday as well?

nkweto · 30/01/2009 12:57

Chilledmama.. hope you are feeling better.. it must be very frustrating.. feel for you

Dinkystinky - yay.. happy maternity leave day !!

I am due today - YAY
I am definately not going into labour - BOOO

hope everyone is well in.. just popping in before having a little nap whilst DS is having his

McDreamy · 30/01/2009 13:01

Morning sorry afternoon all! Dh off to pick up our new car today, at least we can all get into one car now!!!! I'm off to see the anaesthetist this afternoon about my pulse - hoping he will sympathise and demand that I be delivered earlier but I don't think it's likely! Enjoy the weekend everyone

herbgarden · 30/01/2009 13:41

Morning all
Weird this new format - don't like it !!

IDBI please please don't worry about your section. I can assure you that I am the woman who is terrified and I really mean that, of needles of hospitals, of blood and I can honestly say that my c-section was a positive experience. I was really scared before hand so I know how you're feeling but I can't re-assure you enough. In a way it was better that it was sprung on me early.

The worst bits for me were the anaesthetist putting the canula in my hand (and even that wasn't bad - I just don't like that bit (!) - you see what a baby I am) and the almost fainting a few times in theatre due to my BP dropping which is very common and as long as you tell the nice drugs man as you're about to go he pops the anti fainting/sickness drugs in your hand to sort it out.

The theatre "crew" were so nice though and I think the best thing to do is keep up a rapport with the anaesthetist who is the one closest to your head and the midwife and can sort out any of your concerns - that's what he's there for. DH was also fantastic although I did ask him not to look too closely at what was going on as his facial expressions were putting me off !! He was just quite fascinated by it all.

Happy last day dinky although think you might be out of there by now ! Hurray.
Me thinks we might have some more arrivals over the weekend....

mslucyisbeached · 30/01/2009 13:43

MS. Love the idea of the vallies - the best drug in the world in my opinion. I would have been a total addict in the 70s - sadly you can't get them these days unless you have a private doctor.
Are you going in on Monday morning as well.
I'm booked for 7am and I tell you I can't bloody wait.
I am so frighteningly large I am being stopped in the street - this morning by a roadsweeper - and feel I've got half a tonne of concrete strapped to my front.
I think this baby is ENORMOUS and I am so relieved I booked the section and don't have to go overdue - he seems very happy in there and I think left to his own devices would be in there for another couple of weeks.
DH is going to take a photo on Sunday night to mark the passing of the "hump" - will post on FB and you can all laugh/scream with horror.

mumoverseas · 30/01/2009 14:01

afternoon all,
herby your reassurance ref CS is working. I've been getting really stressed about it which is stupid as I've already had two. Hadn't realised the dizzyness/sickness I had last time was due to BP falling so that is useful to know.
This might sound like a silly question for those of you lucky ladies who have already had your CS.
How soon afterwards were you allowed to eat and drink?
Last time, I wasn't even allowed water for around 4 or 5 hours afterwards and wasn't allowed to eat until very late that night so it was almost 20 hours without even water and 24 hours without food. Is that normal or are they just being (more) stupid here?

LittleMissNorty · 30/01/2009 14:13

Yes, it is working for me as well.....thanks for the kind words of reassurance.....may be back Sunday evening for more ....

rosieposey · 30/01/2009 14:35

Im looking forward to all your positive stories about your c sections - i have to go in the night before on the yukky glucose and insulin drip and im a bit beside myself and being separated from DH the night before an operation. I know i wont sleep a wink either. Like MOS i am wondering how long it will be before i can at least have drink? I met a nice lady at the pre op clinic yesterday who is on the same day as me and right after me too ( apparently i am first yay! ) but shes allowed to come in on the morning of her op so i think id rather be in her shoes tbh. Am scared too.

swampster · 30/01/2009 14:48

With my previous two CSs, because they were emergencies and Tommy's lets you trough all you want in labour, I was stuffing my face right till the end . I was just fine.

I'm pretty horrified to hear this time round I'm expected not to have eaten from 10pm the night before - and then they'll do me anytime they can during the course of the day (up to midnight, I guess).

That's almost more scary than the thought of the surgery itself!

I don't remember there being any restrictions on eating and drinking afterwards, just that they weren't expecting me and therefore had no food for me on the ward... There might have been a bit of toast available if I had screamed loudly enough but DH went out and got me sushi. And I had loads of snacks packed, including my favourite (now discontinued, I think) Swiss baby muesli.

Take lots of things that will make you poo, cause nothing they serve you in hospital is designed to come out again without assistance and they won't let you home till you've done a jobby.

littleboyblue · 30/01/2009 14:51

ITNG is on so think I've got time to catch up. Have given up trying to get the old MN layout back, will just have to get used to this I suppose!
IDBI Impressed with your birth plan, sounds really nice. I especially liked the idea of everyone remaining quiet so yours and dh's voices were ther first thing baby heard, and discovering the sex for yourselves, beautiful.
spotty hope you had a good night last night and didn't suffer/worry too much about your ds.
I wish someone would take mine for the night now, well the whole weekend actually! He refused to nap today which means I can't nap, tried to on the sofa but everytime I close my eyes, I get a baby-slap in the eye .
Have also been trying to do some housework, managed to wipe the windows and seals down and am wrecked! How will I manage 2 babies and keeping on top of mess?

swampster · 30/01/2009 14:51

And make sure you have a couple of big bottles of water to hand - I'm quite sure they were ignoring my constant cries for more because they don't like having to empty wee wee bags all the time!

LittleMissNorty · 30/01/2009 14:53

I don't remember any restrictions on food afterwards except that it was crap, non-edible and very little of it. DH is on orders to bring in plenty of snacks for me.

I lied and told them I'd done a poo to get me out of there.....

I can eat up until 2.30am....

swampster · 30/01/2009 14:54

Yeah, IDBI, I am planning on copying your birth plan with minor edits - I think I might ask for different named individuals, for example and emphasise my need for my own music - I really don't want the radio on or to hear the sounds of my cartilage crunching!

Astarte · 30/01/2009 14:57

I thought I might rejoin you for the final push (pardon the pun) if that's okay?

I'll just find the list and update my new name....

Hi all,
Reassuring words also working for me, have a CS booked 3 weeks today and am absolutely bricking myself!! I am such a wuss when it comes to all things needly, bloody etc, most of the time it's not the pain aspect that I worry about it's the thought of it that freaks me out more (if that makes any sense whatsoever)
My ML started from today so will hopefully be able to catch up with this thread, altho have been lurking when I can
