Astarte, who were you? Are you coming to join us in the Facebook?

PBB, for me the yucky thing about my previous CSs was being given an epidural between contractions. With an elective, that's not an issue. I'm quite looking forward to it...

mumoverseas · 30/01/2009 15:31

I'm with you swampy on the being starved from the night before. I remember last time being starving. Think I had to be in by around 7 to 8am but didn't go down to theatre til around noon and then was starved for the rest of the day. Am starting to wonder whether this was because it was ramadam and the staff took the 'well we can't eat so they can't eat approach'? This time I've packed cartons of juice, water and will pack some fruit and other snacks to. How do they expect you to BF if you are not eating and drinking.

Right, off for bath/dvds/early night. Will there be anymore babies overnight?

pinkbabybump · 30/01/2009 15:38

Thanks Swampy, I did have an epidural before I gave birth to my son (11 years ago) but can't remember much about it to be honest (complicated delivery which is why I am having an elcs this time).
Am getting a bit confused about epidural and spinal block - i thought they were the same thing but I think I might be wrong , does anyone know the difference and what do you have with a CS?

idontbelieveit · 30/01/2009 15:50

the being starved was awful, i was allowed sips of water up until 2 hours before we had to be there so had my last sip at 6am.

PBB The spinal is in a different place in your back, it's in the space between your spine and your bottom. It works within about 10 minutes and wears off much more quickly (within 4 hours). I was walking to the shower at 8pm, I'm sure getting up as fast as poss afterwards is good for recovery.
it's also more reliable than an epidural.

LMN there were 3 elective sections booked for monday. We were number 3 so all being well would have been going in about 12:30pm. Unfortunately they then had to deal with another 3 emergencies so we got pushed later and later.

MOS i had water as soon as i came out of theatre and i was eating toast by 5pm. (She was born at 3:17 and they finished sewing me up abut 4pm)My lovely HDU midwife gave me buttered toast (Lurpack no less!) and a lovely cup of tea.

swampy you reminded me, i could hear the scissors, it sounded the same as when you cut the rind off bacon [grossed out emoticon] maybe music would have been a good idea after all

Off to feed again and maybe have a bath.

spottyshoes · 30/01/2009 15:57

Welcome back Astarte & Dizzybrummie

Lol at babyslap in the eye LBB. I got coshed over the head with a plastic Thomas the tank last time I tried a sofa nap!

Disturbed by split personality's of Swampy and MS. I suspect you may secretly be the same person

I was booked in for the 1st CS of the day at 10am and was not allowed to eat after midnight - arrrghhh. But the evening before I was called to say they had loads of ECS's that day so had to move some ELCS ladies over to my morning. I was put back to the afternoon but that meant I could eat up until 6am Much better as I cant go without brekkie as it makes me physically sick. Troughed loads that morning! Am on the p.m list again this time

laidbackinengland · 30/01/2009 16:11

Hi everyone, thanks for all your lovely messages. I feel very lucky. Mabel is very sweet and feeding well. No one has told her that it is good manners to sleep at night and as such, she was mostly awake between 1 and 4 am last night, but hey-ho, that's babies for you.

ChilledMama - it seems silly that they are willing for you to give birth at home but not in the MLW, no doubt it is down to some fixed 'criteria'... Hope you manage to get them to change their mind.

Good luck to everyone else ! Will catch up properly soon.

littleboyblue · 30/01/2009 16:21

laidback Glad all is well (apart from the night time!) Amazing how quick all that stuff's forgotten, I'm dreading being up all night and feeding at silly hours again. Won't be forever though.

For all of those getting strong tightenings and bad BH.......
Do any of you find that the tightness goes all through bottom of bump but also around back at same time?
Also heart rate speeds up, feel quite light headed, almost like need to puke, and get hot and cold flushes very quickly, or is it just me?

PinkTulips · 30/01/2009 16:23

[whimpers] it's all differant and bright, i wasn't prepared for this

another stupid 'am i? amn't i? day here.... thought i was going to have to ring dp to come get me from the supermarket at one point but managed the 15 mile drive home only to have it all tail off again

glad it's going well laidback, hopefully she'll get the hang of day/night soon, hope you're getting the chance to rest during the day to make up.

spottyshoes · 30/01/2009 16:29

Oooh yes I'd forgotten about the squew-whiff body clock, your bringing it all back to me LB!

Sounds similar LBB, I get quite hot and light headed straight afterwards. The pain is mostly at the bottom and radiates up but today I was getting loads in town, having a constant period type pain low down with BH's starting from the top and radiating downwards and were much more sharp and intense

spottyshoes · 30/01/2009 16:32

I cant get it to change format even after doing the customise thingy

PinkTulips · 30/01/2009 16:32

lbb... sounds about right. the pain/strong tightenings vary alot, sometimes it just feel like every muscle between my chest and knees has been pulled taught, other times it's back pain/ hip pain/ bump pain or all 3. definitely with you on the hot and cold flushes, pukiness and wooziness though.

it's weird, sometimes it happens and i think... yep i definitely remmber this from labour, other times i'm not sure and think i must just be imagining it all.

spottyshoes · 30/01/2009 16:33

PT I keep having the same. I even got a bit more pantsnot whilst out and the pains were terrible! but they always amount to nothing

littleboyblue · 30/01/2009 16:34

Ok spotty I'm not having any pains at the top - only when he kicks (!), it's just the back which is pretty dull and constant and then sharp in the base of bump. Also getting really short of breath as it hits. Don't think there's any pattern in it so don't think it's labour, I'm just not sure I remember the days before ds was born. I know I had this killer back ache, but didn't connect it with the start of anything because nobody ever told me it starts at the back, but now I know better, I'm not sure what to make of it.....

littleboyblue · 30/01/2009 16:36

PT Thanx too, nice to know this all sounds pretty normal and I'm not the only one......{takes a deep breath and relax....}

Astarte · 30/01/2009 16:47

My head goes tight like someone is squeezing it when I'm getting them. Makes you not entirely convinced the baby will come out of your foof tbh.

Laidback, I read your thread about a precipitate birth and concerns about how fast your 4th would be.
This is also my 4th with a previous 2 hour labour so not as fast as yours .
What do you think, as fast, or faster?

M/w seems to think she won't make it in time and my Dh is a bit worried. I've planned a HWB, but still.....

laidbackinengland · 30/01/2009 17:04

Astarte, I would say faster ... or at least plan for it to be faster; How long ago was your last birth ?

KT1983 · 30/01/2009 17:11

Astarte · 30/01/2009 17:18

2 years exactly.

MarkStretch · 30/01/2009 18:48

Hi all.

Back from the pre-op, it was a bit odd. We arrived and got shown into a little room with 4 other couples and a midwife came and spoke to us about what to expect, what to bring etc.

The other men asked if thet had to watch and she was reassuring and said if they felt unwell or faint they could leave etc... DH asked if he could be the other side of the screen so he could watch the whole thing including the incision?

He is gross.

Then we met with the consultant who was very nice and smiled a lot and was very kind and acknowledged the fact he was obviously talking to a woman who was mentally deranged but didn't let it show. I think he actually found me quite amusing. Especially when I shouted 'I JUST WANT YOU TO TELL ME IT WILL ALL BE ALRIGHT'.

Then they decided my BP was too high (again) and sent me off for more bloods. Cue me crying all the way to Asda and DH looking perplexed and furrowed.

MrsY · 30/01/2009 18:54

Seriously MS - they expected your BP to be low??!!! Crazy blardy doctors!

I'm obviously nesting as I started clearing the under stairs cupboard to have somewhere to keep the pram, and was chased away by a horde of bloodthirsty spiders - John will just have to finish it!!!

swampster · 30/01/2009 19:01

My DH refuses to go on the other side of the screen - I told him: love me, love my guts. But he is unconvinced.

DizzyBrummie · 30/01/2009 19:03

When I had DS I had a CS and someone told my DH to make sure he didn't look at the lights as it reflects the goings-on on the other side of the screen. As it was he ended up sharing my pillow with me during the procedure

mslucyisbeached · 30/01/2009 19:05

I think my DH will be sitting outside with a bag over his head, which is fine, because I don't want to put him off for life.

mslucyisbeached · 30/01/2009 19:09

the thing is I would be exactly the same if it was him being sliced open, so I don't really blame him.
Just want it to all be over and the baby to be healthy and everything to be fluffy and lovely.

Right now I want DS to come back from his friend's house so I can put him to bed, eat my dinner and watch lots of shite telly.
