Good luck Lardy

I'm getting a bit annoyed now as am still having contractions every 20-30mins and also had a rather large lump of pantsnot again today which is number 3 (other 2 were fairly small). I know this isn't 'it' yet but I wish my body would just pack in the practising until the real thing. I dont want this pain for the next 4 weeks .

I've replied on the thread Mrsy - sorry about the lack of helpful advice though

LittleMissNorty · 30/01/2009 23:07

God, I've forgotten what labour is like ....I'm having painful BH/contractions every 10-15 mins that are taking my breath away and travelling around my back and into my bum IYKWIM.....and I don't know whether its early labour or not. Last time it was really obvious. don't want to get mum over / ring labour ward yet in case I'm over-reacting.

Think I'll take some paracetamol and try and sleep.

MOS, the first time was a mixture of not wanting to risk it without investigating which we didn?t have the time for, not having the time to do it, and having had heparin that morning. This time they were going for a spinal but he prodded my back finding his place and I squealed and nearly flew across the room! It was like having a bad bruise prodded ? they?ve actually written on my notes ?extensive bruising? as the reason for the GA although they told me they think it?s fractured. I?d have the chat about it if you are worried about your back, they?re not happy to rush into a GA because it can mess with your head but if you?re worried they should talk about it. Get someone to have a good prod of your back before the operation because I had the chat with them, they said ?oh no problem, we can do the spinal? and then only found out in theatre. I had already mentally prepared myself for a GA because I didn?t believe my back was that good so I didn?t feel bad about the change in plan. Although they don?t allow birth partners with a GA you may be able to push for your husband to be there, it?s not completely unheard of (of course that?s in the UK) of course your husband should be OK with seeing you being intubated which a lot of people find difficult when it?s someone close to them. I was almost force-fed as soon as I came round! I really didn?t want to eat but they wouldn?t move me until I did. It was 4am and I had just had a tube down my throat so eating was the last thing I wanted to do, especially toast! I thought pregnant women were exempt from Ramadan?

IDBI, I also got a lump in my throat reading your birth plan! It?s just as it should be, a couple of key important points that covers what happens in the main eventualities.

Spotty I started ?showing? on Christmas Day and it was NYE I actually started going into labour, NYD I had a proper/ full show so it can happen slowly.

Rosie, they may let your husband stay over night with you, especially as you are going in first. It can?t hurt to ask, make sure they can see how stressed you feel about being separated from him

LBB that is how my contractions go, as soon as I get pain in my pelvic floor or back I know it?s serious (why I ended up in Liverpool). I find they start in my bump and swing underneath and up my back. Do you need counselling for your not being able to get on MN problems?

KT, it?s not an old wives tale. It?s because of the effect it has on your body, anything that makes you go to the loo will help with self-inducing.

Herb, they would have been fine if you had eaten, the main reason for not eating is in case they need to do a GA, if they had needed to they would have had to wait. I had it backwards; if I had taken heparin when they thought I was in labour I would be nil-by-mouth until I was past 12 hours.

I can't think of anything clever for the thread name, I'm not creative enough (says the artist/ fashion designer) "and we're off" was the best I could come up with. Ten days seems to be the longest we can go for now.

LittleMissNorty · 31/01/2009 04:42

think I'm going to have to give in and ring the hospital soon

mumoverseas · 31/01/2009 06:25

morning all, no actual babies but it looks like a few are very imminent.
You ok LMN?
Good luck to you and Lardy and anyone else who is contracting.

TMB, thanks for that info on spinal, very helpful. My current pain is very low down L4/5 so am hoping where they do the spinal is much higher so should be ok.

MS, you do make me giggle (plan to re-locate to Norfolk may have to be back on)
When I had my CS with DD DH actually got told to move back and at one point one of the female surgeons put down her tools and refused to carry on until he moved to the 'non business' end. Our consultant however was fab and said that he had told him he could see his daughter being born and told her to get on with it. He was fascinated and just said he'd have helped out if he could.

On a negative note, he has just spoken to our medical centre and it seems that the extra payment to our consultant came in in December when the previous top consultant left. We have been with him since September and since him three times since this new rule came in in December and have not been told. One of DH's friends heard him talking about it this morning and it turns out a few years ago he was with the old consultant who did charge and they tried to make him pay at the end, not on the hopsital bill but apparently cash in an envelope to the consultant afterwards. He told them to get stuffed as not told before so that is the approach we will take.
we have an appointment tuesday and are just hoping that he doesn't officially tell us then (if he does only 5 days before the CS I'm likely to throttle him) so fingers crossed nothing is said and we will plead ingorance and refuse to pay.

Hope all last nights aches and pains result in nice quick and easy deliveries this morning xxx

spottyshoes · 31/01/2009 07:39

Last night DH introduced me to the slut he has been having an affair with for the past 6 years. I was so outraged that, despite him sleeping in peaceful snoring ignorance beside me, I belted him round the head and called him the C word (I never ever say that usually). Poor bloke nearly had a heart attack I thought those sorts of dreams stayed in the 1st trimester .

TBM&F2 I do hope I follow your lead then and only have another week to go, 38 weeks would be lovely!

Good luck LMN!

spottyshoes · 31/01/2009 07:41

about your consultant fees MOS. Hope you can avoid paying!

chilledmama · 31/01/2009 08:40

spottyshoes-Almost PMSL...DH shacking his head thinking 'You're all mad'

MamaGoose · 31/01/2009 08:53

spottyshoes your poor Dh!

spottyshoes · 31/01/2009 09:09

Hey! no sympathy please he cheated on me remember

Yes we are definately all a little bit mad!

Calico1 · 31/01/2009 10:02

thanks for horror film descriptions of C-sections girls.....

I am quite fascinated actually but I read the comment about it sounding like 'scissors cutting through bacon rind' to DH and he went a peculiar colour and is now sitting on the sofa with his fingers in his ears in case I tell him anything else! He really wants to be anywhere but in the theatre whilst it is all going on. He wishes it was like the 'old days' when the father was sat waiting in a comfy lounge smoking cigars and drinking whiskey - I'm not sure it ever was like that on the NHS.....

Oooh - good luck LMN!

Calico1 · 31/01/2009 10:35

mumoverseas - shocked at the 'cash in an envelope to your consultant'!!!! Makes it seems like a right dodgy deal - anyway, it's not as if the consultant can claim back the goods afterwards if he doesn't get his extra money....

idontbelieveit · 31/01/2009 10:37

Morning everyone!

Sorry Calico! just get them to put the music on loudly and he won't be able to hear. If you have a screen up he won't be able to see a thing, they'll lift the baby above the screen to show him after it's born if he wants so tell him not to worry!

LMN any news? Good luck! Same to you spotty and anyone else who's getting close. What's hapening lardy? had any contractions yet?

dd2 is just lovely i'd forgotten just how lovely new babies are and she slept from 12 til 3am then 3:30 til 7am so i'm feeling very chipper this morning.

littleboyblue · 31/01/2009 10:39

No news on lardy? Or LMN? Very exciting!
Dp has just taken ds to dad's group at playcentre so I am going to have a nice soak in the bath with my book and then hoover, sweep and mop floors and I'd like to change ds's bed. I've fallen out of my housework routine and can't remember when I last did that........
TBM I did think at one point, I wasn't gonna make it, imagine a whole evening at home without MN, but thankfully all was ok, I finally got on, read active convos, decided it was all a bit boring so went to bed instead!
MrsY I was supposed to return to work after mat leave and didn't. Completely understand you not wanting to leave your baby, but also understand your dh's fears. However, I am positive there are people out there that are far worse off than you financially that cope just fine, and yes it is a lot of pressure on him to bring home enough money for you and baby to survive, but you just make sacrifices. I'm not saying it's that simple but it all works out because it has to. You'll look into any benefits you can claim, obv. CB and CTC which for me is about £150 a month, you can try for the sure start mat grant (pick up form from job centre), speak to the council to see if eligible for council tax benefits and/or help with the rent etc.
We're struggling atm with 1 ds but we'll find a way with 2.
You might find that he turns a corner after the birth and would feel better knowing your children are raised by you.
I would have been ready to put ds in childcare when he was about 11 months, but was pg again so no chance and I expect this to be the same unless we hit really bad times, but I'm not thinking about that now. We worked out if I'd gone back to work, after paying for child care I could be working 40+ hrs a week for £250! No way.

littleboyblue · 31/01/2009 10:46

MrsY I do a bit of mystery shopping. Each assignment takes about 20mins and pays £10 a time, not much but it'll get dinner or something one night. I've also looked into doing Avon, Ann Summers parties, Usborne books etc. If you have a Sure Start Centre near you, they often run courses and things. Mine is about to start an Indian Head Massage Course that enables you to start your own business once you have your certificate. Sounds interesting, the woman that came in to tell us about it says the going rate is about £40 for a 20-30 minute session.....I can't do this one though as it's running on a tuesday morning from the end of feb and won't have anyone to watch the boys

Calico1 · 31/01/2009 10:56

IDBI Glad you had a good night with DD2. Thanks for info about the screen thing. I don't mind seeing so perhaps they can just sit DH in a corner with headphones on and put a screen all around him! I think he might faint if he sees or hears anything yucky....

dinkystinky · 31/01/2009 11:05

Hi all - just typed message but computer swallowed it.

Quick summary -

LMN - good luck (same to you Lardy and LBB - you sound on the brink).

Astarte - welcome back. Hope all well with you.

MrsY - have posted on your thread. YANBU.

Me - interesting start to maternity leave - 4 hours in car up to nottighamshire last night with a chunder stained toddler and MIL, nice!

Spotty - I have nightmares like those too - mostly to do with DH running off with a tidy temptress (must be repressed guilt at my messiness)

New thread - Its fab, Its Feb, Its 2009 - come on babies, its SHOW TIME!

Will set it up now.

rosieposey · 31/01/2009 11:08

Morning all,

Having a lovely day here. Have been bought breakfast in bed and lovely bday cards. Also had poppers burst all over me when i woke lol. Am going out for a surprise shortly ( i dunno what ).

LMN and Lardy hope all is ok with you and if you are doing the do then its over nice and quickly for you both (and as relatively painless and easy as it can possibly be).

MrsY i had a quick look at your thread - sorry to hear that you are feeling like you are. TBH i dont blame you and sort of go along with the idea that you should probably enjoy your time with your lo and thats its probably not what you need to be worrying about whats going to happen when you go back to work. I dont think your being unreasonable at all to want to enjoy this time. Feel bad for your DH as well as i guess it must be playing on his mind and worrying him though.

Hope everyone else has a nice Saturday

dinkystinky · 31/01/2009 11:10

Right, new thread up and running- will post latest runners (well, waddlers) and riders list on it.... Can someone technically minded please link everyone to the new thread?

Oh and MrsY - have posted on your AIBU thread. LBB's advice though is great.

Calico1 · 31/01/2009 11:13

Happy birthday RosieP - hope you get thoroughly spoilt!

dinkystinky · 31/01/2009 11:17
