Congratulations LB What an amazing story. So happy for you & your family, well done.
Im looking forward to seeing the pictures
xx

Calico1 · 29/01/2009 17:33

McDreamy - oh that's a shame you couldn't share a birthday with your new one.

I am surprised that they didn't give me an earlier date too but they were all booked up.....perhaps my DC2 will have other ideas about when to arrive but it's good to have a date in the diary anyway. But it is 4 weeks away today and I can hardly move as it is!

I am so jealous of you Laidback, can't stop thinking how fab that must have been! You're sound so cool about it.

herbgarden · 29/01/2009 18:05

Oh my goodness LB your birth story is reminiscent of my first poo post birth....... - what an amazing woman you are. I would have been terrified (but then I'm a wuss and presumably you do what you have to do) - Many many congratulations and well done to your DH too. One of my work colleagues delivered his second in the bathroom whilst his DS watched cbeebies downstairs and whilst he found it traumatic you could tell he was also quite proud

Mabel is a lovely name. All these girls are beating those boys into the world aren't they (and there are lots of boys on this thread)- come on the rest of you !!!

Pempe · 29/01/2009 18:38

so you lot talking about how older siblings are likely to respond to the new baby and ways of making them feel included, loved and not-usurped is really interesting and has made me think - what do you reckon about cousins? We are very close with DH's sister and her two DSs (7 and 3), they are hugely excited about the new baby, but i get the feeling they are going to be jealous - particularly the 3 year old, as he has the same name as we are giving our baby (Greek tradition) - ("why has this new tiny screaming thing got the same name as me").

Would it be a nice idea for us to buy the boys small presents from the baby, so they don't feel like new arrival is getting all the attention, or is this over-egging it? Opinions welcomed

littleboyblue · 29/01/2009 18:44

laidback That's brought a little tear to my eye. Big well done to your dh, sounds like he handled it all perfectly. Congratulations on a wonderfully simple (SOUNDS LIKE) delivery, can't think of a better way to do it tbh.
Love the name too.

rosie I used (well bought) the mothercare maternity pads for when ds was born (vaginal delivery), I was losing alot of blood (they said placenta was huge) but managed on the extra super always ultra pads. I really couldn't get on with maternity pads, no wings to hold them in place!

Bloody tightenings here again. I have had the most killer back ache today, it's quite bad now and have just wiped a big bit of snot like slime from myself. Not much colour too it so gonna wait to see if we go green or blood streaked.....Prob not.
Dp finishes work tomorrow for 3 weeks of paternity leave, so might try to get a few days off over the weekend by telling him I should really rest up if I want to have an effective labour. Will be back later on.

PinkTulips · 29/01/2009 19:12

lbb, i think kung fu panda and your little lad are in sync with each other, they seem to have notions about heading south at the same times but never quite getting there! was on the verge of ringing dp to come home this morning and it all eased off again... lots of tightenings but it doesn't seem to come to anything no matter how much hip swaying, squatting, nipple twiddling, pressure point pressing or screaming in frustration i do

hope yours comes to something tonight, it'd be great if you could go naturally rather than be induced as i've heard induction can be quite tough.

told dp laidback's birth story when he came in and he said 'cool, that's the way you want to do it' i not very subtley pointed out that it was a good thing she had a helpful dh rather than one who'd stand there all in a fluster being useless and he said 'what are you on about, i'd be great'...... this from the man who's dragging me into hospital to have this baby despite it being the last thing i want as the thought of an unassisted HB terrifies him so much!

LittleMissNorty · 29/01/2009 19:20

I also told DH the unassissted birth story.....and his only words were "fuck" ....lets hope I make it till Monday....BH are pretty sore now.

LBB - sounds like you've had a show

Questionkid · 29/01/2009 19:22

Congrats to IDBI and Laidback, gorgeous names too. I want Laidback's birth experience, it sounds incredible!!

I've been up at the hospital this afternoon for what was supposed to be a routine consultant appt but ended up in the MAU being monitored for BP (normal) but as I'm showing plus protein and am 39 + 2 they're all starting to get a bit twitchy up there. I ended up having more bloods and have got to go back up to the MAU tomorrow morning for the results. There were a few mentions of booking a date for induction if the results aren't good tomorrow. Personally, I'm getting so used to these 'scares' that I'm expecting to be sent away as usual tomorrow.

I can report no contractions, no show, no early labour signs whatsoever - this little blighter is very happy where he is right now and is showing no signs whatsoever of coming out. Grrrr!

dinkystinky · 29/01/2009 20:36

Pempe - that sounds like a really nice thing to do for your nephews/nieces - am sure they wont be expecting anything but will love it!

Questionkid - best of luck for tomorrow. Sorry you're having such a worrying time of things.

LBB - that does sound like a show, so things are all moving in the right direction. Hopefully you'll get there naturally pre-induction but with all these signs that the little one is ready to come out, if you are induced, it will probably take really quickly...

MamaGoose · 29/01/2009 20:44

laidbackinengland congratulations!!! blimey, that is one amazing birth story.

pinktulips and lbb I'm with you too. Woke up at 4am with proper contractions - thought oh fuck I remember these - 10mins apart. Me and DP sitting in bed working out what we're going to do with the boys, can we make it a decent hour etc. Couple of hours later it all falls to a grinding halt. Why??! Nothing else all day but constant bloody tightenings. Went for a few walks to encourage it etc but nada. Grrrrr. Looks like I'll be with you in mid Feb nweko!

We went to see midwife this afternoon. And then it turns out baby has moved so is almost back to bloody back! FFS - I am a day off my due date and the baby bloody moves back to back!!!

littleboyblue · 29/01/2009 20:52

I read laidbacks birth story to dp, he kind of nodded, grinned and said "that's nice". Think he was a bit scared at the thought!!

PT Yes, is very annoying isn't it? I keep saying "push that a bit harder" but nothing comes of it. Makes me feel a bit silly when I ring dp and tell him the cramps are back or that my back really hurts etc for it to come to nothing (again). Nevermind.
My consultant thinks that induction for a 2+ labour isn't as bad as a 1st, and I will be able to do it without an epidural if that's what I want. Part of me would lave to go naturally as I'd feel alot better knowing he's fully ready to arrive but the other part of me is hoping he stays put so everything happens smoother for ds. I'm never happy me am I?
LMN Hope you're ok.
QK Good luck with the results tomoz.

Don't think it was a show, I'm just leaking snot! Sorry for TMI, but doesn't seem to be normal discharge as had some on my pad that didn't dissolve if you like, so is def thicker than what I have been having iyswim. Nothing else since but is does kind of feel like my lower back is working to do something. Does that make sense? I can feel a tight almost pushing pressure......we'll see, not getting hopes up though.

Wonder if it's worth getting jiggy in the bedroom again?

littleboyblue · 29/01/2009 20:55

MamaGoose What a bugger!! Sit forwards, don't slouch and try all fours, get that baby facing the right way again!

littlesez · 29/01/2009 20:57

Yeah another baby! what a fab story laidback, congrats to you and your family xxx

after all the moaning ive been doing I had sex this morning!

xxx

littleboyblue · 29/01/2009 20:59

Wayhay!!!!! Littlesez

chilledmama · 29/01/2009 22:08

Sorry to bring down morale of todays upbeat thread but I've had a SHIT couple of days!!! Not feeling like a CHILLEDMAMA at all at the moment. My head is absolutely bursting with information and I have no idea what I want anymore...except to stick my head in the sand and pretend that nothing is going to happen and my baby will just materialise in front of me StarTrek styley!!
Went for ECV yesterday morning which actually wasn't that bad...like a deep sports massage but certainly not painful/excruciating. Most painful part was when bloody MW put in needle thingy into my arm for the subutimol(sp). She made a complete arse of it and now my arm is really bruised but hey.
Bloody bub refused to turn for very nice consultant. When we had breech confirmed last Thursday her legs were both flexed which is good for turning but yesterday she had moved and is now Frank...good for vaginal delivery bad for trying to turn!!!
After that consultant started talking options...you know ELCS or continual monitoring for vaginal delivery...he did agree that I met all the criteria for a normal delivery and didn't bloody write it in my notes!!
Anyway...spoke with MW unit and they wont take me in the unit but will attend HB...WTF?? DH wasn't best pleased...not huge supporter of HB at best of times...got myself really upset and can't bear to read anymore research/information about risks!!!

TinkerBellesMumandFiFi2 · 29/01/2009 22:11

Spotty YANBU, it?s understandable that you will be feeling a little at leaving your LO for the first time. I know I felt awful when Tink first stayed away, we spend a lot of time at my parents and they?d looked after her loads during the day. We better let the March Mums in or us January Mums will have to go elsewhere too!

Herb I?m jealous! Sîan won?t go down, I?ve had to get TBD to pick up my sling so that I can be hands-free. I know what you mean about time, I can?t believe she?s four weeks tomorrow, it seems like forever!

I second PT about weight. They were worried about how small Sîan was at 4lb 15oz and she was 4lb 8oz only a few days later so they were putting her bigger. I wouldn?t rely totally on it.

Congratulations Laidback, sounds like a dream birth! Lovely name too

THOM I love that bike, I?m sure Tink would too and it?s not a bad price either, I may think about getting one. I?m glad you son has it all figured out

MOS, yes the girls are winning so far!

Aww EJK, you never know, you?re further on than I got to!

LMN I decided I?ve been through enough so he can do it (and I?m young, he?s old )

MrsY · 29/01/2009 22:20

laidback - am so jealous! sounds like a perfect birth - John nearly crapped himself, and said (or rather whispered) i'm very glad we live so close to the hospital!!!

mumoverseas · 30/01/2009 04:52

morning all, no new arrivals since I went to bed then?

Dinky, enjoy your last day at work. Must seem odd to still be working when everyone around you is dropping

rosie, happy birthday for tomorrow (I will have forgotten by tomorrow) hope you have a lovely meal out with your OH

LMN, I didn't realise you could be sterilised at the same time as a CS. Is that under GA or spinal? I asked about it a while ago and was told it wasn't possible. Very tempting if it is, its either that or DH never comes near me again

I'm starting to have very selfish thoughts (again) about wanting to have a GA. I'm panicing a bit about my back and having a spinal. Please don't worry all you girls who are having a CS, having had 2 before I'm not worried about the being awake bit or the pain (there wasn't any) so please don't let me put you off, I'm just worried about the spinal working on my knackered old back or making it worse.
TBM, need your advice, seem to recall you said that you'd been unable to have a spinal therefore had to go for the GA. Is that right or is my baby brain mind muddled again? Were they just unable to put the needle in?
Really starting to like the idea of just being knocked out but that is really unfair on DH I suppose. I think maybe I'm just a wuss

Right, off for breakfast and then I'm going to learn how to type in bold.
BTW, what has happened to MN overnight? why do they have to fiddle with things?

rosieposey · 30/01/2009 07:09

Morning everyone

Ohhh yeah there is a different mumsnet on my laptop! Very swish.

Had my pre op yesterday, nice handsome drugs man gave me all the advice so it looks like im all go a week today. Also read DH laidbacks story last night and he looked a bit worried lol but TBH i dont think this little chap is budging.

Thank you MOS am looking forward to it think its going to be our last meal out (or peaceful one anyway) for quite a while!

Wonder if there have been any more babies overnight?

idontbelieveit · 30/01/2009 07:46

Hello! I'm home.
dd1 has just woken up so i can't stop but just wasnted to say hi and congrats to LB
I'll be back to catch up properly later.

Those waiting for elective CS, mine was great and they followed my birth plan to the letter apart from letting my sister into the theatre. Freya had to go to SCBU and they let my sister be with me in HDU while DH went with Freya.
Freya had to have some extra tests and we have to go back for various follow up stuff which i'll tell you about when i have more time. She's feeding really well and i'm feeling about 1000 times better than after the emergency CS with dd1.

Have cut and pasted my birth plan in case it's any use to anyone having a CS, in the end I didn't have a screen up (anaesthatist suggested we didn't bother with it as long as we kept hands away from the sterile area) so they didn't need to lower it and we watched her being born. it was amazing.

Birth PLan:
I wish my husband Leo Stewart and sister Natasha Koczy to remain with me at all times during the operation unless the baby has to go to NNU in which case Leo should accompany the baby and Natasha should remain with me.

I wish to see my baby as she is born and request that the screen be lowered at the moment of birth and for the staff present to be quiet at this moment so that mine and my husband?s voices are the first voices that she hears.

I wish the baby to be delivered onto my chest for immediate skin to skin contact after the birth unless the baby is unwell and would like me and my husband to discover/confirm the sex of our baby ourselves without being told. I would appreciate the support and help of the staff to breastfeed in theatre should I wish to.

I do not wish the baby to be washed, bathed or dressed until after I have fed her for the first time.

In the circumstance of my baby having to go to NNU or if I am unable to hold her I wish her to be accompanied by my husband Leo at all times and wrapped in the blanket provided by him and to have skin to skin contact with him if she is not able to have skin to skin contact with me.

I would like to express milk for my baby if I am not able to breastfeed her and would request that she is not given formula or any other breast milk substitute without my permission or that of my husband?s should I be incapacitated.

Thank you for taking the time to read this birth plan.

LittleMissNorty · 30/01/2009 08:14

Morning all

Happy birthday Rosie

Had a horrible night....woke at 2am with really bad bump pains....every 10 minutes...falling back to sleep in between....went on for 2 and a half hours....must have worn off....don't know if they were painful BH or contractions....but didn't feel like the contractions I had with DD....or perhaps it was because it was the middle of the night....

Feel very hormonal today and sitting here in tears....don't know why. I watched the wedding episode of Gavin and Stacey last night and when her uncle gave her the letter from her dad in the car, I cried my eyes out (I lost my dad a year after my wedding and it bought back so many memories)....

Not sure I like the new MN

MOS - having a spinal....no-one has any problems with me being sterilised at the same time....and because they actually remove a piece of tube, its perfectly reliable.....can understand why you are beginning to wobble over the GA issue....

Anyway, off for my pre-op assessment today, so hope I can get parked and DD behaves otherwise I'm likely to be in floods of tears!

littleboyblue · 30/01/2009 08:48

Morning. WTF has happened to my MN layout? I don't like it and anything I click on in customise doesn't seem to do anything different.
chilled sorry you are feeling so crap atm, hope you feel better soon.
dinky have a good last day at work

Running reallylate today, it's play group day and neither of us are dressed or washed, we have 45 mins to be there.......
Just thought I'd pop on and let you all know I wiped another stringy bit of gunk last night but nohing major. Showed dp and he laughed and said it didn't look like anything and told me to stop being so disgusting
Had a few really bad BH (assuming that's what they were as they stopped and I haven't had a baby), that left me moaning and groaning on sofa. I did manage to do all my ironing though which took just over an hour so maybe again, just did too much....
Anywy, have a good day everyone. Will check in for baby action later.........Anyone gonna drop today?

Pempe · 30/01/2009 08:55

Morning everybody
I am feeling super hormonal today too - IDBI your birth plan was ....beautiful....(?!?!) can you believe I cried when I read it? I'm so happy for you and your DH that they followed it.
No energy today whatsoever, very short of breath, want to sit and watch rubbish telly.

dinkystinky · 30/01/2009 08:57

Morning all.

Rosie - happy birthday! Hope you have a lovely one.

MoS - thanks for your kind wishes for today. Yup, does feel odd to be at work while there are other ladies delivering their babies... I sympathise with Eejaykay and KazzaL and others who are still at work for a bit.

Chilled - am sending you a massive hug today; sorry you had such a stressful/disappointing time yesterday. Great news that baby is in Frank position which makes vaginal delivery possible but crap news that MLU wont take you - am assuming its in the same place (or near to) the labour ward, so what's the difference between taking you in there and sending a midwife to you for a homebirth?? If you feel up to it, its probably worth follow up call to the consultant to get him to confirm on the system/write a letter to add to your notes re you being suitable for vaginal delivery and also to get in touch with the head of midwifery to find out why you're suitable for a homebirth but not MLU (hopefully if you speak to an understanding head honcho, they'll reverse their decision). Best of luck hon.

MamaGoose, LMN - sorry you both had tiring and scary nights. LMN's bump - stay put until Monday little Mr/Mrs! MamaGoose's bump - move around to get your back to the front please (MamaG - when you sit down ensure your hips are higher than your knees, lots of hip rolling on birth ball, polar bear position and leaning over chairs will hopefully encourage bubs into the optimal position) and then please stop messing around and make an arrival. There are lots of heavily pregnant ladies waiting with bated breath for the news of your arrival. Same goes for Pink's kung fu panda and LBB's bubs.

IDBI - glad you're home and really glad you had such a positive experience.

Right - desk packing up time methinks. Will doubtless be on later once I get bored with tidying my room...
