Lovely pics Kay!

Morning all,

Havent been on for a while due to the manic travelling we have had to do since Christmas Eve, we finally returned home on Saturday night at 23.20. We have had to bring back so much stuff, christmas presents and baby presents and hand me downs from sisters babies we are truly overloaded and now have to sort it all out and put it all away. Eek!

I have another stinking cold, just in time to go back to work - grr! Not good. Had to drive DH to work this morning in a blizzard which was also not much fun. I have to go to work in half an hour so am hoping the road conditions will be better as I have to go down windy country roads.

Right I need to go and sort myself out for work. Hope everyone is ok this morning.

RuDiegetheRedNosedReinDiege · 05/01/2009 11:00

Gorgeous pictures KAYZ! You take a good photo!
LB, yes, karma dictates that you are due a peaceful and painfree birth . Really hope things are better for you this time .
Right, better get the homeworks done - talk about last minute (ditto washing of PE kits )

RuDiegetheRedNosedReinDiege · 05/01/2009 11:01

Hi GRUFF! Take care on the roads!

lambskinmmm · 05/01/2009 11:08

Hey there, I'm in Scotland.. is it too late to jointhis jolly forum? I've had a long read of this thread.

Due on 15th.. homebirth on the cards... got one DD of 10 so huge gap... today is my first day of matty leave. My first day ever at home alone i think. v strange!!!

tinkwantsherbaby · 05/01/2009 11:16

lambskinmmm · 05/01/2009 11:52

I have just chopped 15 (small) pieces of wood and am about to put up some shelves. what an active time for us all.

tink - how's your pelvis feeling? mine's aching like mad.

Here in the North East its sunny and beautiful.

tinkwantsherbaby · 05/01/2009 11:55

my pelvis is fine keep getting leg cramps

kayzr · 05/01/2009 11:56

Hi Lamb. Welcome!!

This is a great thread with lots of ladies due at various times of the year. I had DS2 on the 12th December.

You must be in a different part of the North East to me. Its grey here, we're meant to be going out but it looks like rain

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 05/01/2009 12:49

Kay- great pics of DS1 there!!

Day out in knickers with DD was great... she went to the toilet twice while at toddlers, no accidents at all!! We've definately cracked it i think!!

Pains still coming and going but nothing like last night!! I'm dreading going into premature labour with them being so strong!! See MW tomorrow though so can talk things over with her, maybe more regular checks to know all is ok or something. Will see how it goes, got a million and one things to try and sort with her!!

decided to be lazy and boguht some pies from the bakery for lunch, they were nice but i feel greedy now!! they were massive meat and potato pies!! DC's are still only halfway through theirs and they started at just after 12!!

tinkwantsherbaby · 05/01/2009 13:26

what a clever girl glas

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 05/01/2009 14:03

i know tink- i'm so so happy she's got it!! I was dreading it going pear shaped and her not being done by her 3rd birthday. If that was the case she'd not be able to go to nursery in april, so i'd have a new baby and have to have DD potty trained before sept- too much hard work then i think!!

ARGHHHHH!!!!!

DH phoned work today to make sure they both had the same date for him returning to work. We thought it was Friday and they said it was today. He was told that his paternity leave and the 2 weeks the factory was shut were seperate. So he had 8 days of his paternity leave then the factory shut for 2 weeks and he had the other 6 days after the 2 week shut. But apparently not and he has to go to work tomorrow. I cried and cried as I don't feel ready for him to go back. I was expecting him to be back on Friday so had a few days to get DS1 back into his routine.

I am very very

Starshinetiger · 05/01/2009 15:59

Kayz - that's not right. If everyone else was off for 2 weeks as the factory was closed they can't then make him take that as paternity leave. They can ask him to defer part of his paternity leave, but should have done so when he put his application in. He should challenge them. Probably not very helpful of me to say that right now when what you need is tea and sympathy, but we would never treat an employee like that here and in my pregnant hormonal state, I say challenge them!!
So sorry - is not nice for you and totally understand you getting upset

kayzr · 05/01/2009 16:05

He is going to challenge it tomorrow I think. It was the same person who told him that they were seperate that told him today he was meant to be at work.

So that means his alarm will be set for 5 tomorrow morning.

tinkwantsherbaby · 05/01/2009 16:07

glas - it is so nerwracking the 1st trip out when they r in pants.
that doesnt sound right kay!! should definetly question it!!
our fuse has jusr blown all upstairs lights not working and loundge and kitchen ones off 2. luckily we have almp in loundge

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 05/01/2009 16:40

Kay- that doesn't sound right at all... days that everyone else has off are not classed as his paternity days at all!! DH is a store manager and i just asked him and he said that your DH's work are talking out of their arses!!

Tink- lucky you have the lamp- i dont have one so would be stuck if that happened at ours!!

Have decided to buy some maternity dungaree's!!! been looking at some on ebay... hoping to buy some if i can get them at a decent price!!

2beautifulgalsandasnowglobe · 05/01/2009 17:53

Hi everyone, just managed to acutally sit down and catch up with you all

Had 20 week scan this morning, everything great apart from being a big baby, which i have thought all along. We didn't find out the flavour much to DH's protests. I nearly asked at the last minute and did ask her if she saw, she said she knew but didn't hang around those bits too long (as had asked when we entered if we wanted to know) glad we never found out now though.

My aunty's boiler went up yesterday and her house is ruined, very lucky to get out. Just been to visit.

Kayz- the pictures of Freddie are gorgeous you have one very photogenic little boy. Sorry to hear about DH's work, definately doesn't sound right would dispute. But on the negative side, If teachers have there Maternity leave in school holidays then it is still classed as ML. Sorry.

Glask- sorry about the BH's, is it possible you have a water infection, as sometimes they can cause mor painful/frequent BH's. If you have an appointment with MW tomorrow she will test for that anyway. DD is doing well. I rememeber the first few weeks being terrified to take DD out if she wasn;t in a nappy but i think you have to do all or nothing. My DD2 (2.6) now only uses the toilet and even sometimes takes herself off and wipes and flushes.

Tink- not good news about the fuse hope you get it fixed. You might be just the person to ask, i am looking for a maternity swimming costume any suggestions where from? Took the DD's swimming on Friday and i foolishly though i could still ift in normal costume!

Welcome Lamb, we are a friendly bunch. Are you due 15th of this month?

Diege good luck at the first day back tomorrow, hope its not too bad.

NJ- hope everything is going ok with Mikey and your milk is sorting itself out. Hope you are also feeling better within yourself.

Gruff- sounds like you had a busy but fun xmas, now back to normality!

kayzr · 05/01/2009 18:33

He is going to ask his bosses tomorrow. The HR woman said to him before DS2 was born that the 2 weeks everyone have off don't count as his paternity. So she told himhe would have to work out how many days he had off before the 2 week shut down and add the rest to the end of the 2 weeks.

I went and sorted out my walking boots today. They are great and really comfy!! I feel really excited about doing all this walking. I really love walking and it is bound to help me lose weight.

2BG, Glad you had a good scan. Do you have any inklings to what sex the baby is?

Glask, DD is doing really well. I am not looking forward to potty training. He does have a potty but all he wants to do with it is put his cars in it.

Sesthinks2009willbeagreatyear · 05/01/2009 18:40

Hi! Just a quickie between getting home from work and going out!

2BG - glad scan went well and well done on not finding out! DH is convinced ours is a boy because of how my bump is but I keep thinking girl. Neither of us is convinced either way though!

Kay - I agree with the others. All seems a bit unreasonable to me and needs persuing.

Lamb - welcome to our thread!

Hi everyone else!

I'm getting bad pains in my legs. I know this can happen in pregnancy and you'll probably all tell me it's normal and you've been getting them for months! Most nights I wake up with cramp in both calves and the rest of the time my legs ache from just above the knee down. Wore some flight socks to work today to see if that would help. Certainly fifn't get any worse...

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 05/01/2009 19:37

ses- yes i'm afraid cramp in calves is common while pregnant- i can tell you that it will stop when baby is here just have to persevere till then i'm afraid, my sister has been suffering badly with cramps too. I had a few with DS but they were just in the night really IIRC... dont think i had any with DD really.

2BG- i honestly dont think its an infection, they feel like real waves of contractions they are that strong!! I'm kinda hoping i have some while i see MW tomorrow so she can see how bad they are!! My bump fully firms up like a rock, and DH said he can feel the muscles getting harder and almost pulsating.... so her thinks they feel just like my contractions did!! and i'm having one now while typing- really painful, makes me dizzy and lightheaded!! Also i can't have full bowels, once they start if i have anything in my bowels i have to run to empty them!! It honestly feels just like labour did when they start... when i dotn have them i feel absolubtly fine (well besides the painful back, heartburn and huge football shape up my top!!)

RuDiegetheRedNosedReinDiege · 05/01/2009 20:10

Evening! Just a quickie from me as trip to cinema while good really took it out of me and I'm heading to bed as soon as the jobs are done. Great news on scan 2BG - you were very good not finding out the sex!
SES - bad luck on cramps - are they worse at night? I've never really suffered myself, but read somewhere that a banana before bed can really help (the potassium?)as can flexing foot so that toes point to ceiling (avoid pointing toes).
LAMB - welcome to the thread!
GLASK, I am sure that's not right about the paternity leave, esp as you have received conflciting advice from the same person. I know from dh that paternity leave can be split up, so don't seen why they could enforce you take it at a particualr time. May be worth posting in employment as there are some legal experts there?
Will be odd going back tomorrow - am stopping off en route to get some 'supplies' so that my blood sugars don't drop. So far I have a can of tomato soup, and pears, and will be buying croisants and a fish pie to take in Have my own microwave in office, so should be sorted!

Starshinetiger · 05/01/2009 22:03

Kayz - sorry was just dashing post earlier as was at work. Your DH is entitled to 2 x his normal working week of paternity leave (i.e. if he normally works 5 days a week, then 10 days total). So, from when baby was born (or whenever he started paternity leave), he counts how many days he would have worked (not including normal days off) up to shutdown and then any remaining he can take now. i.e. if he normally works 5 day week, baby was born on Friday 12th Dec - think I recall you calling DH home from work (they may make that count as a paternity day, or may not - I can't be 100% on that). So, if he was due to be off on Sat 13th and Sun 14th they don't count. Then he took Mon 15th-Fri 19th as paternity leave and then closure was from 20th through to 4th Jan, he still has 5 days to take. That's only one example - depends what his actual circumstances are. I can't see how they can say closure is in place of paternity leave as that is treating him differently to someone who took paternity leave at another time in the year. In any case - I assume he is on statutory paternity pay, they can hardly pay others full-time pay for closure (assuming closure is paid) and only pay him paternity pay and if they're not paying paternity pay, it's not paternity leave). (Sorry if I'm laying this out way to basically and you know all this already).
As he's going in tomorrow, if they do agree with him, then you just get him off for rest of paternity leave after a few days back at work, but know it's not ideal.
Hope that helps.
Wishing you all good nights' sleep. I was up to 1am finishing coursework, so am off now to bed before I fall asleep at computer

Starshinetiger · 05/01/2009 22:04

Sorry - meant to say:
2BG - yay for scan, well done for not finding out the sex - I get curiouser by the day with our bump, but still glad I didn't find out.
Glas - yay for DD - that's great going on potty training.
Diege - fingers crossed for good journey into work tomorrow and that the supplies keep sickness at bay.
Right, really off to sleep now.
Sorry for anyone I missed.
