So excited to be starting my first thread!!!

Just had a BFP this morning a couple of days before AF is due and according to FF, my EDD is 1st September 09.

I have one DD (March 05) and had MMC in late September this year, so a little nervous but really ready for this.

Looking forward to a few more people joining me on here!

i wanted to lose 2 stones before i got pregnant..hmm wel taht didnt happen.. neway ideas to control myself?

pooka · 12/01/2009 14:12

Golly that's good getting midwives to visit.

With dc2 they visited but in the later stages as was intending to have a home birth. Though on the actual night there was no one available to attend so DH and I ended up traipsing into hospital. Had ds under an hour later and was home 2 hours after that though. Was rather peeved.

I am very excited as I have my booking in appointment tomorrow morning, somehow makes it all real I suppose.

Bad news today, my employers have decided not to renew my contract, so I get a weeks notice and pay Nothing to do with the fact that my emails have been accessed as I have had 2 days off sick, and there were personal messages to DP about my MS I'm sure...

bigbang · 12/01/2009 14:55

I'm sort of on a diet, was meant to be before I found out about the pregnancy. I'm just trying to be healthy, not eating rubbish and trying not to snack etc. Its not really working as I'm so tried I just want to eat for energy!

Will be having a home birth this time! I wanted one for DS but was told I needed to be induced so went to hospital and ended up staying for 2 days. Turned out to be a smooth birth so with hindsight I wish I had stuck to my guns and insisted on staying at home. I will be doing that this time and only going in if something seriously goes wrong. Midwifes were very supportive last time and will have the same bunch (mostly) this time too. It was different midwife (long story!) who insisted I needed to go in with ds.

Your so lucky your midwife is going to visit you at home, no long wait in a stuffy waiting room! Best idea (works for me anyway) to control yourself is to not have any junk in the house. The urge to eat crisps and chocolate is often diminished by the fact that I would have to walk in the cold to the shops to buy them!

bratnav · 12/01/2009 14:56

God yes bexaa, I am checking all the time in blind panic that I will see red (sorry TMI).

Also breasts are huge and tender, MS is awful too, ah well, all good signs.

Snowfalls108 · 12/01/2009 15:12

anyone good with lists - who fancies adding all us newbies on?

HellHathNoFury · 12/01/2009 15:14

Bratnav that's crap, I was 12 weeks and not renewed, I begged and pleaded but they said no and no-one else would take me as I was showing. Ended up having a year off.

Bexaa - no!! LOL

bratnav · 12/01/2009 15:28

Is it right that you can still claim Maternity Allowance instead of SMP provided that you have worked enough?

I will try and get another job, but if all else fails I can do a small amount of contracting to get enough NI contributions. Does anyone know about this?

bratnav · 12/01/2009 15:29

Sorry, forgot to say thanks Hellhath

pooka · 12/01/2009 15:32

Bratnav - think that's right. Do a google search for maternity allowance and I think the job centre website has all the info. I'm looking into it as am self-employed.

bratnav · 12/01/2009 15:38

Will do, thanks pooka.

I know this might sound awful, but if I really can't find anything, do you think I could register as self employed and get DP to pay me for housework/dog walking etc?

I have always worked, but am concerned that I will miss out on MA. I can't believe I am even thinking this TBH

pooka · 12/01/2009 15:48

www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/Customers/WorkingAgeBenefits/Dev_008115.xml.html

Here is one like. Www.direct.gov.uk has more stuff and downloadable forms.

Think you would be entitled to something so long as you have been employed and paying NICs for 22 weeks out of the 66 weeks before you're 26 weeks pregnant. I will be eligible because I've been paying class 2 NICs as a self-employed worker for the last 18 months or so.

pooka · 12/01/2009 15:49

www.dwp.gov.uk/advisers/ni17a/

This is better. More informative about eligibility.

bratnav · 12/01/2009 16:02

Thanks Pooka, brilliant.

Will start firing out my CV to agencies for temp work tomorrow, I think that is my best bet, noone is going to employ me on a permanent basis at the moment.

bigbang · 12/01/2009 16:02

Think this is right, apologies if I have got mixed up or missed someone out:

Hi everyone
Hi Trix
Congratulations to mama2leah - wow! and all other BFPs
Obsessively checking for blood here as well I can't remember when that stopped last time

TrixieBelden · 12/01/2009 18:07

All these new people! So exciting!

Re: weight and hunger -- with my first pregnancy, I had vile morning (all day) sickness, and the only thing that curbed it was eating. Eating CONSTANTLY. I gained 3 and a half stone (I'm 5'4") and had a 6.5 lb baby. And was left with a HUGE amount of weight to shift, which I did in about by walking 2-5 miles every day and breastfeeding for 10 months.

I like to think I'm not the type to obsess about weight too much, but I am terrified of gaining like that this time. The extra weight nearly crippled my back (couldn't walk in the last month before I delivered) and made me feel horrible and dumpy and unfit and sad. Granted I'm not quite 6 weeks and the real nausea hasn't yet kicked in, but I'm making a huge effort to eat sensibly (tons of fruits and veggies, no junk) and exercise and not consider pregnancy licence to eat everything in sight.

God I sound like a scoldy killjoy. Really, I can be much more fun than this. ANYWAY all this to say that I feel much better now than I did at six weeks with my first pregnancy and I would encourage anyone who's feeling yucky or heavy to go for a walk and get yourself moving.

pooka · 12/01/2009 18:20

With my first I put on about 3.5 - 4 stones. But was possibly about 1 stone underweight (below my normal weight) when I conceived. And I had huge appetite and no morning sickness. She was 6 10.

With ds, I had queasiness and went off a lot of foods (no meat, no dairy apart from milk in porridge really. In fact I lived on porridge, and spinach and pinenut pasta salads). Only put on about 2 stones and lost all within about 6 weeks of the birth (but was still carrying about 1.5 stones from dd).

I tried hypnobirthing with ds, and saw a hypnotherapist re: the labour. She kindly added in lots of positive stuff to the sessions relating to weight loss after the birth and breastfeeding and so on. Maybe it worked? Think will try again this time.

TigerFeet · 12/01/2009 18:35

Hi everyone

I'm decloaking, I was on here as Unhinged but have now come out iyswim!

Lots of new names, lovely

I put a lot of weight on with dd, probably over 4 stone! I lost a lot with the birth as I was terribly swollen, then lots of walking and I breastfed. Once I went back to work and dd was weaned off the breast I put a load more back on and I'm currently heavier now than I was at 9 months pg

I'm eating really well atm, this pregnancy seems to have given me the kick I needed to sort it out. I eat loads of healthy food anyway so just need to cut out the crap that usually goes alongside it . Not drinking will also help enormously I'm sure.

I'm feeling a bit nauseous in the mornings but not too badly (YET lol) but it passes by mid morning and then I'm ravenous by the end of the day

Here's the list again with my name change

Hope everyone is well

Congratulations Tigerfeet.

I am finding that so far I am eating reasonably healthily but my eyes are significantly bigger than my belly so the only times I have felt sick are when am completely bloated from overeating. Willpower not great.

LittleCheese · 12/01/2009 19:36

Hi ladies I am feeling yuk today, totally off food which can only be good for my waistline. With DD I didnt put too much weight on as I lost quite a bit in the begining, however i was over weight to start with and im about 2.5-3 stone over weight now so hopefully ill try not to put too much weight on this time. The only food im interested in eating is fruit which is good
