Doh.... should really pre-read message... should say Tink YOU are a shopping machine! Whoops

fymandbean · 31/12/2008 11:19

morning another day in bed for me!

Spink · 31/12/2008 11:22

morning everyone!
just realised it is NYE. We, blissfully, have no plans and will probably go to bed quite early.. I'm someone who doesn't really GET new year's. My family are in a diff country and the fact that they celebrate an hour ahead makes it all seem even odder and less relevant, iykwim. (I admit tho if I could have a few drinks and do some chicken dancing I would prob be more enthusiastic about it all!)

I'm 38+2 today - exactly when I had ds, so a bit of a watershed. But having no signs or niggles, feels like labour is a way off yet. Still, had my pineapple, curry, rasp tea and nip stim yesterday and just polished off the rest of the curry cold for elevenses. YUM.

MsSparkle · 31/12/2008 11:31

Morning all,

Well today is my due date. No sign of baby yet and i am pissed off because after my due date i can't have the baby at the lovely midwife led unit at my local hospital that is 5-10 minutes away. Instead i have to go the crummy main hospital that is 20-30 mintutes away.

rrrayray so far i have tried raspberry leaf tea, hot curry and sex. I read that the amount of pineapple you would have to eat for it to do anything is ridiculas so i haven't bothered.

MM sounds like your having a right pain in the ass time Saying your battery is dead is always a good one

rrrayray · 31/12/2008 11:53

spink at cold Curry!!!!! Hope it works for you! Hey.. maybe the chicken dancing is a better idea than you think... could bring on labour!!!!

MsSparkle i LOVE pinneapple, so am happy to eat it all day if it works... and if it doesnt, well yum yum yum anyway!

Fymandbean i just don't seem to be able to relax, a day in bed sounds so good, but i have massive fidgits!

Our mamas and paps star-lite swing just arrived. Looks so cute! We actually have EVERYTHING now, down to the tonnes of nappies, cotton wool balls, the works. Ok baby, time to come!

rrrayray · 31/12/2008 12:46

....just unpacked the baby swing thingie, its SOooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute!!!!!

Bought from mamas and papas Sale

LenniEd · 31/12/2008 13:45

MsSparkle - I forgot to say before that it is good news about your Mum, am glad she is getting better. Seems a bit harsh that they won't let you use the MLU after your due date - I thought they were usually keen for people to get to their due dates.

Seen MW this morning and baby is LOA! Yay! Unfortunately my BP has gone sky high, which is a bit worrying since have had ultra low BP up til now. Got to go in if any sign at all of feeling unwell.

Nowt else to report.

Swing looks lovely rrrayray

lenniEd - any protein in wee?

MsSparkle - what, not even a few days over?? Whatthe????????

NYE party in 5 hours and er...done....er.....well....

stripeywoollenhat · 31/12/2008 14:58

hope you are all having nice new year's eves.

i'm just back from midwives clinic with my parade well and truly rained on - small one is healthy and so am i but apparently, while i am small, she is not.... she has engaged, is kind of between posterior and anterior and the midwife basically said i should at very least expect ventouse/forceps and possibly would need a section - basically am in for a long hard labour! bollox! she had a good grope of abdomen and pelvis and kept saying with my short legs it would be difficult???!!!! what the hell has the length of my legs got to do with anything???

so we are both totally freaked out now.

rrrayray · 31/12/2008 15:12

Stripey Wow... i can see how your feeling freaked out.

Tree as a midwife, is it necessary/constructive to set out such a picture for stripey? I mean, does stripey really need to know that? i am a firm believer that fear makes pain worse... i feel quite that they have freaked you out so much stripey!

lenniEd i have a midwife appt tomo and am a bit apprenhensive, like you, i have had rock bottom of normal BP, but since i have been poorly, and my hands and feet are so swollen they are sore, i'm a bit worried :-/

Am waddling around with "tail between legs"...OH got home, and looked at swing, and decided to see how it swung with his foot, still with outside shoes on. I totally lost it.... and shouted at him for touching it with shoe on... i even went so far to say would you climb in her Cot with your shoes on, she has to sleep/lay in that... needless to say he didn't take too kindly to my tone, i burst into floods of tears, and was borderline hyperventalating (sp?) Couldn't breath, and felt like head was going to pop. God knows what got into me......... i'm trying to blame it on hormones, but OH is not impressed. Have just had a bath, feeling calmer, but like a total Physco!!!!!!!!!

stripeywoollenhat · 31/12/2008 15:21

thanks rray - i think she was trying to warn me that the whole natural childbirth thing might not be a runner for me, in a forewarned is forearmed way, but obviously i am pretty scared now. hopefully i will have a few days to digest this before lo decides to make her entrance.... it's not that i have a problem, really, with having a section if it's necessary - i am a bit scared of spending hours trying to give birth and then having to have an emergency section though...

sorry to hear about oh's errant feet. think i would have been a bit snarky about that too....

LenniEd · 31/12/2008 16:52

No protein tree. BP usually around 110/60 or 110/54, occasionally as high as 120/72. Today it was 145/96 on first measurement and then 130/85 when she did it again. She looked quite panicky at first and then seemed to relax a bit when she got the second measurement. She made me do another urine sample there and then just in case but both were fine. Assuming no protein means all ok does it??

Stripey I'm not sure what the benefit of frightening you was. Hope you are ok now. There is no reason to believe you will need intervention if the baby is bigger, plenty of bigger built women have problems too. I always think it is best to go in prepared for the worst but expecting the best iyswim. Perhaps this was what your mw was aiming for but got it a bit off balance.

stripeywoollenhat · 31/12/2008 17:06

lennied - i think she was probably just trying to warn us that we aren't necessarily going to have a lentils and whale music kind of experience, but she kind of overdid it. have now calmed down a bit and am wondering, if titch and i are such a mismatch, how she has managed to engage... so will see how it goes.

sorry to hear about your blood pressure, hopefully it's nothing to worry about. mine was 106/64 this morning, which is the lowest it has been.

rrrayray · 31/12/2008 17:27

i think the reason i was so and at the seemingly OTT Frightening of Stripey is that at my NCT Class it was banged into us that we "don't grow babies which are too big for us" ...Obviously there are exceptions where intervention is necessary, but to Scare Stripey like that i feel was unecessary.

^^ Check out miss First - timer Me getting all Larky! hahaha!! I think i'm just in ONE of those moods!!!

My bloody pressure has always been in the 110/60 Area....We Shall see tomorrow at MW appt.

Off to friends now for NY Eve relaxing and nibbles. Have made bruschetta (V.easy and turned out YUM YUM) And baked lots of heart shaped Shortbreads. Yummy Yummy.

Tree & Any others of you lumbered with hosting...............Good Luck! I shall be jumping in the car moments after midnight..... Zzzzzzzzzzz¬!!! xxx

Ginni · 31/12/2008 17:43

Hi everyone, as you may have guessed I have been away having my little baby girl! She was born at 1.03am on Boxing Day, after my waters were broken at around 10am on Christmas Day. She weighed 6lb15oz and perfect in every way, i'm in love! We haven't yet decided on her name, I booked an appointment to register her birth on 12 Jan but of course we want to decide well before then! I was kept in hospital until 28th so not been home long, things have been hectic - I have mastitis already and scabbed nipples, so i'm on antibiotics and i'm expressing every few hours. I really struggled with breast feeding, I found it so painful even though she was latched on correctly, so i'm mix feeding her for the time being via bottles.

I haven't had chance to catch up with this thread yet, but happy new year to everyone and good luck to everyone, lots more babies to come in the next few weeks, i'll keep posted!

fymandbean · 31/12/2008 17:46

my 'high' bp was 130/90, it is now down to 120/70 and being rechecked on Friday. no protein for me just the virus!

Spink · 31/12/2008 17:56

Ginni - huge congratulations! will you be posting the full birth story?? I do love a birth story sorry to hear about the bf difficulties - mastitis is so not nice. Hope everything heals very quickly.

have a fab NYE everyone! We've just had a lovely walk, with ds in a backpack on dh, down along the seafront to twinkly Brighton pier. Lovely to get out in the fresh air, I've been feeling a bit cooped up over the last few days. It is a beautiful evening here, the sea is really still and smooth.
Bring on 2009 and lots more babies!!

tinkwantsherbaby · 31/12/2008 18:29

stripeywoollenhat · 31/12/2008 18:46

Just popped in to say Happy New Year to you all - and bring on the 2009 babies! Still no internet at home, but have finally got nursery all sorted out and ready, so that has made me feel a lot better. I just can't believe that it could happen at any time, and almost definitely by this time next month I'll have a baby!

Hope you all have a lovely evening and will try to catch up on the thread in the NY when I finally get connected to the real world!

Congratulations Ginni

Do persevere with the breast feeding if you can - it is quite hard to get going but once you and baby have the technique it's cheap and very handy (I promise!) - saves sterilising all those bottles!
