Anyone due July 2009? Part 2

lucasnorth · 12/12/2008 17:05

Sorry, original title.

Anyway, hello everyone, I'm due 6th July (although no scan yet, so date will probably move). Excited but knackered and queasy so far, although having read (some!) of the last thread I've got off pretty easily so far.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Mrsmope · 15/01/2009 19:06

Have been looking at previous messages from this thread and just wanted to enquire as to exactly how many sets of twins there are on it?

Seems pretty high compared to the national average. Have been told that because I am an older mum at 38 I am more likely to conceive twins. Are you are other twin mums out there over 35 or are you youngsters?

Belgrano · 15/01/2009 19:08

Hi everyone
It's okay!!! I am over the moon to say that we are expecting a baby boy with no chromosomal abnormalities. A boy! My GOD I don't know how we got so lucky, I really was expecting the worst and made her repeat the bit about 'negative for everything we tested for' about 6 times. I feel so completely blessed. Thank you all so much for your support and thoughts. It made a real difference.
Thank you.

Mrsmope · 15/01/2009 19:16

Belgrano Congratulations on your good news after what must have been a really stressful time. I am so pleased for you and your family. It's always great to hear that something has turned out well.

Belgrando,
fanastic news so pleased for you.
Mrsmope, I,m 35 with twins, think the likelihood of twins increases with age and number of children you ve had, these 2 will make 5 for me

London11,
I think I have found the perfect twin pushchair suitable from birth and takes 2 car seats. Its a jane twin two.
(don't tell anyone but I've bought one already in my defence it was second hand on ebay and a bargin .)

Am going out for a girls night out on the town tommorrow will be my first nights out for ages and I can't wait going to be strange being sober. At least I can take the car so if start flagging I can make a hasty retreat.

Hope everyone else is ok.

LargeGlassofRed · 15/01/2009 21:09

QueenFee · 15/01/2009 21:53

Belgrano wow wow wow! so pleased for you. Now you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy
bonzo I just love your scan pic so special

As regards to buggies - I had a tandem Graco last time and I got that on the bus no probs. It was actually only about an inch longer than my urban detour 3 wheeler which I take everywhere. On the downside it was heavy so I have just got a fab bargain of a Jane powertwin on ebay - brand new and half price!! (ok it was more than I wanted to pay but now DH is talking about having another after this it may be in use for a while - and anyway they are still going for that price second hand! Feeling very pleased with myself )
LGOR have you got the matrix or Strata car seats - I love the matrix and have found out it is ok to use it in Europe on the back of the powertwin so will be doing some research to see how safe it is to do it.(I tried it in the shop and it felt fine to me)

brainmish · 15/01/2009 22:09

hi- I'm new here and due 29th July- coincidently my fortieth birthday.
And this is my first pregnancy.
3 months ago we adopted a 12 month old baby after years of failed IVF. So, imagine my shock. I am still in shock and cannot work out whether I am knackered due to caring for an adventurous toddler or because I am pregnant. Lots of life events for me..IN fact 2 new babies into the family within 9 months of each other- not ideal for an adopted child requiring a stable adjustment period. Our plan had been to apply for a sibling for our adopted son as soon as is possible according to the social workers rules but this unexpected pregnancy has made us nervous. We have no idea whether and how much longer we will now have to wait. If the pregnancy does not continue we would like to continue with the adoption process but not disclose the failed pregnancy. This makes me very nervous of who I can safely tell about the pregnancy. Anyone I tell might later be put in an awkward position if they are then interviewed by our social worker ( as many family and close friends will be in the event of a further home study for a subsequent adoption). The latest challenge to add to this quagmire of choices is the result of my nuchal translucency scan with HCG and PAPP-A. My adjusted risk is 1 in 156. not highly reassuring. But we are completely at sea with how to proceed and currently most of our concern is for our recently adopted (and adapting very well) son. If the child has Down's syndrome how will this affect our chances of being assessed again for further adoption? Does anyone have any experience adoption following the birth of a child with Down's syndrome. As our child is a different ethnicity from us it would be very good for him to have a sibling who is the same ethnicity.
As an adopter one becomes very wary of discussing anything with anybody. no adopting parent I have spoken to dares visit their GP for anything in fear of it appearing on a subsequent adoption medical and in some way jeopardising their application. I have not told any health care professional about the pregnancy.Hence writing here in an anonymous forum.
I know this is possibly not the best place to post such a lengthy and complex post but it covers so many issues it does not fit neatly into any category. But at least you guys are going through the same choices about tests etc.
We would be really helped by anyone who knows more about the rules social workers apply when assessing for adoption following pregnancy ending in misscarriage.

thanks for your patience.

LargeGlassofRed · 15/01/2009 22:14

oh the strata I think Queenfee, the matrix are the ones that lie flat arn't they?
Hopefully they won't be in the car seats too much, as mainly wanted the ones that fit on the buggy for the school run as found it so much easier with dd2 to keep her in the carseat on the school run.
Am walking distance to town though so they will be in the normal seats most of the time.
Well done on finding a halfprice powertwin!

Phoenix · 15/01/2009 22:18

Hi Brainmish Congratulations on your pregnancy and your new little one!!!

I don't really have much experience, but I think children are more resilient than you think. I wouldn't worry about your son being put out by a new baby - try and make it as exciting for him as possible, just as you would a biological toddler when a new baby will arrive soon.

I'm afraid i don't have any advice about the doctors, unfortunately. It seems an awful situation that such happy news would be seen as a bad thing in the eyes of a social worker Do you plan on adopting again after you have your biological child, or will this one be it for you?

Best of luck! You've done a wonderful thing adopting a little boy and you deserve the happy family you are building! {{{hugs}}}

naturopath · 15/01/2009 22:49

Belgrano - so happy for you - that's amazing.
I still have to have the second blood tests, and they haven't given me any ratios from the scan or from my first bloods. They did find the nasal bone, and the blood vessels etc. looked good though. The person doing my scan studied under Dr Nicholaides, so I trust her.

naturopath · 15/01/2009 23:02

and Brainmish - congratulations!
I don't have experience of adoption, but I do know a family quite well who adopted two children, and then had a biological child with Down's syndrome. It has been quite tough at times for them, but they wouldn't change it for the world. There wasn't such a small gap though.
Are you going to have an amniocentesis/CVS? It still seems like a lowish risk factor.

QueenFee · 15/01/2009 23:14

brainmish congrats and welcome. As I understand it it is actually quite common for people to fall pregnant just after they have adopted. I know a couple of people to whom this has happened! Good Luck with the Social people

lgor yes the matrix lies flat. Must make it quite a long pram though if you have 2!

Newb · 16/01/2009 08:30

Belgrano so so happy to hear your news
