Anyone due July 2009? Part 2

Sorry, original title.

Anyway, hello everyone, I'm due 6th July (although no scan yet, so date will probably move). Excited but knackered and queasy so far, although having read (some!) of the last thread I've got off pretty easily so far.

OP posts:

BonzoDoodah · 14/01/2009 12:08

I had a look on the New Look website and couldn't find them. I mean the things that are like a giant, wide piece of elastic material that covers your bump and sort of holds it in. Do you know what I mean?

lastboxoftampons · 14/01/2009 12:25

I think you mean these

And also in Top Shop

Newb · 14/01/2009 12:51

Well I'm very excited today first timer alert as I couldn't do up my "fat trousers" for the first time. Sitting at my desk now with them undone and wondering whether the time has come to wear first proudly purchased pair of maternity trousers.

Also have stinking cold. Just as the MS was getting better, I had 2 days of ridiculous bursts of energy then hit by bloomin' sore throat and cold.

On another note, am going for scan on Monday. Will be 15 +2 then. I live in Switzerland so we seem to get them every month here. So far so good. I was speaking to a friend who has the same doctor and saying how happy I was that finally it's an external scan rather than the lovely interal ones. She broke the news that they do some kind of "cervix check" each month as well. Anyone heard of this. What's it for?

Just about managed to catch up after my fabulously long Christmas holiday. MS is still hanging around a bit at 16 weeks, but not as bad as it has been.

Finally went to the doc's this morning to arrange a midwife (had fertility treatment so they passed me on to the hospital for initial scans) and discovered I am due another scan in 2 weeks!! Most pleased - thought that in Edinburgh you got nothing after 12 weeks unless there was a problem.

Think I'll be off clothes shopping this weekend as I am down to a skirt, a pair of jeans (which need taken up 6 inches to compensate for the fact I am using a tight belt to attach them below my hips) and one top which fits. Was worried that I hadn't put weight on in first 14.5 weeks. Now horrified to discover I've gained 8lbs in 10 days

Unlike some I love my job and am worried that I may have to give up earlier than I'd like - I've heard many suggestions that 29 weeks is a good stopping point with twins! I'm hoping to go part-time at that point and finish at 34 weeks.

Anyone have a double pram suitable for twins from newborn? Any feedback most appreciated.

SafferUpNorth · 14/01/2009 14:37

Hi everyone,

Congrats to Bonzo and others who've had happy scans - loved seeing all the movement at mine last Thurs and can't wait for the 20 week one (yes, apparently we're now finally getting them here in darkest Edinburgh).

Rattling - twins! How exciting!

Re. wardrobe issues... I've also concluded that a few bump bands would be a very good purchase, as I'm skulking about with my button undone, but not bumpy enough for mat gear yet.

If you don't fancy the look of TopShop or New Look ones (or the idea of your bump band having been sewn by child labourers in Bangladesh...) check out www.myrubyrose.co.uk

Have just bought a set of two (one black, one white) for £15 + p&p... sounds like a cottage industry too, so supporting small UK business!

Edinburgh ladies due July (Christiana, Rattling, any others?): If you fancy meeting up sometime, just shout (I think there's a direct contact thingy here on MN?)

Belgrano · 14/01/2009 18:29

Aww crap. My second opinion on the nuchal test was today and was not good - gone from my 1 in 386 chance of Downs (which I was worried about anyway) to a truly proper high risk result of 1 in 46 chance of Downs and a 1:90 odd of Edwards and Patau's.
Fetal Medicine Centre was amazing and I had a CVS so will know for sure on Friday (if I can survive that long - this is agonising). I feel sure it will be bad news since it has been worse than I have expected at every other opportunity with this pregnancy.
Hope everyone else is doing ok.

lastboxoftampons · 14/01/2009 18:32

Belgrano {{{hugs}}} 1 in 46 chance is still very small. Best of luck for good news on Friday. I'll be thinking about you.

Belgrano · 14/01/2009 18:42

I meant to say - can anyone think of anything I can do to make the time go faster till Friday? Bearing in mind that I've got a toddler (rules out cinema type activities and spas!) and am supposed to keep quite quiet cos I've had an invasive thingummy....?
And can anyone think of a way to find the strength to answer the phone on Friday? Anyone done this before and got any tips for taking that fateful call?
I feel so like a fish out of water having had such an incredibly straightforward pregnancy with DD. Without being too dramatic since nothing is certain, this feels like a nightmare from which I will surely wake up soon.

london11 · 14/01/2009 19:07

belgrano sorry no experience or advice just {{{{hugs}}}}

Rattling I have looked at every kind of double pram/pushchair over the last couple of weeks and cannot decide - none of them seem perfect. If you find something great for 2 newborns let me know!

Went for my scan yesterday. All seems well, have to wait for combined test results to come back but trying not to stress about that. Got a proper due date so have moved myself down on the list! Now 24th July.
It was amazing to see it there looking so big. It didn't move much so she had to prod it a bit to get the NT measurement!
Sorry to hear your news Belgrano. I have my fingers crossed for you.

QueenFee · 14/01/2009 20:16

belgrano sorry to hear that fingers crossed for you x

rattling I have been looking at the jane powertwin for my 2 (not twins) which can be used for twins with the car seats. I personally do not recommend side by side at all as I had one for my last 2 and I basically gave up going out until I bought a tandem. (there are some good deals on ebay )

As regards matty jeans I highly recommend blooming marvelous. I got 3 pairs there a few weeks back and they are sooo comfy I think I will still be wearing them after bubs is born! They dont keep falling down either. I have bought loads of stuff off ebay too - there are some great bargains - I got a bag of 20 items for £3.20!

belgrano thinking fo you, thats pants news and I just hope things can go okay for.

Will be thinking of you on fri xx

phoenix It was me that said about work - Earliest we can leave is 29 wks and I'm outta there I reckon. Not going back after =wards but only till DD goes to scholl andnew baby will be about 14months old - then I'll go back I think. Just literally counting down the full days I have to work till I can leave ( I work 3 days a week , so thats 47 days away plus every other sat morning )

ephrinedaily · 14/01/2009 21:33

Belgrano re taking the call - when I was waiting for her to call on xmas eve with my blood results I just had to ring her first - rang about 10 time before got result! Just couldn't sit there and stare at the phone. Maybe you could call them.

Passing the time - take toddler to soft play, put them in ball pool - DS 14 mths will stay there for ages and I can get some tea. Go to library, put toddler on floor in children's library, try and read. Go to local animal park / city farm if weather okay, in children's zoo bit you can often just throw them in and watch! I take it you don't want to leave toddler with someone else and chill on your own?

Sorry for all of you still at work, it was rubbish working when so tired last time!

Rattling and Queen Fee do you think the double buggies that sit one child behind the other are ok? I can't affor Phil'n'Teds but maybe cheaper version? I can't see myself getting a side-by-side one on the bus.

Newb That cervix scan might be to check the length of your cervix, in case of something called incompetent cervix which although rare can lead to things like premature birth. My local hosp do the same thing but at 20 weeks.

bellybaba · 14/01/2009 22:56

Belgrano, will be thinking of you. I hope you will get the results you want.

Morning,

Belgrano - will be thinking of you, hope you get the result you want {{hugs}}

The direct contact thing is CAT (contact another talker) i think.

I had a 3-wheel Urban Detour pushchair for ds which i still have but don't use for him anymore so will be using that for a while for this baby. We have a Maclaren Quest now for ds but he mostly walks but we have the pushchair cos he gets tired still but by the time the baby comes he'll be 3.5 so hopefully he won't need one anymore. When the baby is around 2mth old we are going to Cornwall and only have a small car (clio) so have also bought a Maclaren Techno XT (was very cheap in Boots sale before christmas) to take to Cornwall cos the 3-wheeler is huge and the Quest can only be used from 3mth.

Dh is just taking ds to nursery. It's his 2nd week (he goes 2 mornings) and he's not quite settled yet (few tears when we leave him ) so i've made dh take him this week because i was sobbing my heart out when he was screaming after me on Thursday.

Belgrano · 15/01/2009 09:02

Thank you for all your support. The risk went up cos the nuchal had increased from 3 to 4.1 mm in a week and the bloods were apparently not fine last time (though she said they were - ggggrrrr, rubbish Bristol clinic) and neither were they fine this time.

To be honest I feel awful, thanks for asking Christianan I can't sleep or do anything and just constantly think about whether or not I could stomach a termination if the worst happens. I am so sorry to bring you all down with my crap though.

Belgrano - really don't know what to say. But thinking of you today and for the phone call tomorrow. Can you get DH to take the call - will he be around anyway?

Edinburgh ladies - don't have CAT but have created special hotmail account that you can use to contact me - would love a meet up. rattling6 @ hotmail dot co dot uk (without gaps). Did a bit of a search on the two (think there are only 3 Edinburgh ladies) of you to discover if you are terrifyingly young, but that info isn't out there. Did find your "must avoid ERI" conversation. Totally understand (have 2 sets of friends gone to St.John's or Borders rather than ERI) - but I will be going there, so need to develop some positive vibes about the place. Actually have quite strong ones already as they did get me pregnant when the normal routes failed

BonzoDoodah · 15/01/2009 14:10

Lastbox - those belts look great thanks

SafferUpNorth - That rubyrose website made me cry - reading why they set it up - ruddy pregnancy hormones (harumph and smiffle)

Belgrano big hugs coming from over here. Must be a terrible time. Maybe going to the library or finding some Baby singing classes for DD - where you can sit but babe dances? Or just call ALL your other mummy mates and insist on doing a coffee-crawl round all their houses. They won't mind in the circumstances. Fingers crossed for Friday.

BonzoDoodah · 15/01/2009 15:06

Not wanting to put it so soon after Belgrano's news but I had my nuchal fold scan this morning and came out with good odds (for my age). Feeling relieved. Took a lot of work though as the little blighter wanted to curl up and sleep with its spine facing us. We ended up with four seperate scans - with me jiggling up and down, then going for a wee, then running up and down the stairs and then walking round the block in the cold wind and dancing salsa in the waiting room! Finally it played ball and rolled over enough to see a nasal bone and a thin fold ... and some funny positions - added photos to profile. Phew.

Newb · 15/01/2009 15:48

Belgrano you will find the strength from somewhere to take the call tomorrow, and remember that the odds are very much in favour of all being well. Then you will know with a greater certainty than all of us that your lo is fine.

Don' think beyond that for now if you possibly can. If it's bad news then you can and will be able to handle it and we will all be here to help and talk to you.

I remember vividly the moment last summer I had a scan with my first bean and found out he had died 2 weeks previously. That was pretty much the worst moment I've had, life occasionally throws horrendous crap at us all but with time it can be dealt with and I promise that you will be OK however this works out.

Thinking of you tonight x

Mrsmope · 15/01/2009 18:42

Belgrano wishing you all the best on your results.

Haven't logged on for a while but hello to all and hope that most of you are finally getting rid of the MS or all day sickness as may be (I know I am).

My due date has changed from 3rd July to 1st July following my scan, but is very likely to be earlier following the shocking news that I am expecting twins. Am really happy and already slightly panicked about getting everything ready before their arrival, although I am probably crazily optimistic about my ability to cope perfectly once they do arrive.

Best wishes to all expectant mums out there.
