Oh yeah took ds2 for his newborn check which was all fine and HV came this afternoon and gave her spiel. She was a bit apologetic that ds1 hadn't been picked by the service which I wasn't that bothered about really as i knew they would find him eventually when ds2 came along, it's our crap gp surgery not passing info on. I have to say whenever I come into contact with NHS staff of makes me so happy I'm out of the game they always look so harrassed. If I hadn't got pregnant I would have been working with her team as had got the job with them but as I was preggers didn't think it was worth starting it. She told me they are down by 7 hv's.

verso They do it here for the first few weeks, then we have to go to the clinic. Have fun singing.

Sparkling - I reckon the scan could be out a bit but not as much as a couple of months. Good luck.

Glad babies Katie, Kayz, Trace and Verso are all scoffing away! Have a nice time tonight Verso, but Kevin McCloud? Patrick Stewart??? I think they trump my Aled Jones and Michael Ball

Wow, I am loving the weird crushes. This is good stuff. Gordon Ramsay? Rowan Atkinson? Although...Rowan Atkinson is very very private and also madly in love with his wife so I suppose that's attractive. Dark as well, that's good...hmmm.... [coming round to Rowan Atkinson emoticon....then remembers Johnny English and changes mind emoticon]

Jam - what's Rocky Road? Sounds dangerous

Veggie - Aled Jones is an ex choirboy who had a hit Christmas single aged about 11 and is now a cosy, rather pudgy and I think you might say 'homely' Radio 2 broadcaster aged about 38. He is about as hip and happening as, um, a Rich Tea biscuit. (You are now going to tell me they are also a mystery to you ) Funny thing happened though. Shortly after I posted the Aled Jones revelation, DP came home and Aled Jones was on the radio, which had been what made me think of him in the first place. Yes, I do realise I am totally blowing my cool today. He asked me whether a certain thing about Aled Jones was true (a dear friend of mine used to work at Radio 2 but I can't tell you what thing was it was as it would be potentially libellous and you never know who is reading ) I said it was and DP said "Well, pooh, I find it very hard to believe. For a start off...who on earth would fancy Aled Jones? It's simply not credible." And no, I didn't let on.

LadyThompson · 22/12/2008 18:17

Blimey Cat, that's fast! Well done you.

Oh, and Veggie, Alan Rickman, Noel Fielding and R. Keane are all too respectable. You need to dig deeper

Veggiemummy · 22/12/2008 18:22

Cat great birth story did they decide what the rash was? Ds2 had a rash too that came up about an hour after birth but mw thought it was skin flora colonizing and it was gone within 24 hrs. Also peeled grapes?

Katz I know very bad gooner form but it's a really big package I couldn't help myself.

Went and did a little shopping in town this afternoon and both dh & I found the whole experience a little hard to cope with. After 9 days of babymooning all snuggled up together with just a trip to mothercare and markeaton park yesterday, Derby westfields Christmas rush was a bit too much. Dh & ds are at a soft play down the road right now as one of ds' little mates is having a birthday party there. He will be shattered when he gets back.

Thanks for Aled link Katz for some reason could go to it on itouch but went through the YouTube icon on here and found him. He looks quite pure LadyT maybe your hormonal body wants to do bad things

SummerLightning · 22/12/2008 18:26

Alan Rickman yes please.
Yes to Rowan Atkinson as Blackadder, no to him as Mr Bean or Johnny English!
Is patrick stewart the guy out of star trek?? I don't believe it, my uni friends used to take the pee out of me for fancying him!! Oh dear Verso we must have the same dubious taste, though no ta to Kevin McCloud.

LadyThompson · 22/12/2008 18:28

Loving the link Kayz. Again, Gary Lineker is quite a respectable crush to have but I can exclusively reveal that in RL he is actually a bit of a grumpy sod. Better not say how I know but I promise it is true (It is not from direct personal experience but from someone close to me). Anyway, that's quite enough from me, before I get myself into serious trouble....

IceCube · 22/12/2008 18:34

Lady T - Aled Jones is cute blonde you could take home to meet the parents, not that odd to me. My famous crush is Ben Fogle, don't know if that's odd or not, but do have a tiny thing for Paul Merton off Have I got News for You, I keep pretty quiet about that one

For all those talking about birth weights I thought I would share a gem from an independant midwive who delivered a baby to someone I know recently. She said "as long as he seems healthy, good nappies etc don't let anyone weight him again until he's 4 weeks old. That way they can't put pressure on you to formula feed if you don't want to or make you worry about his weight. You will know if he is unwell."

Thought that was very interesting considering she used to be an NHS midwife and the NHS seem to make such a big thing of babies getting back to their birth weight.

LadyThompson · 22/12/2008 18:37

My Mum fancies Ben Fogle. Mind you, she fancies Charlie Boorman or whatever his name is as well. I agree about the Weighing Nazis. I doubt it was an issue years ago and they let people get on with it.

reban · 22/12/2008 18:45

lol at ALed jones LT and i second alan rickman veggie and verso veggie im not one to relish in another's footballing misery but as a lifelong villa fan i can only find myself pleased that you drew with liverpool yesterday. Dont worry im sure you will be able to laugh at me on boxing day when you slaughter us at home!

cat thats an amazing birth story, well done on home birth, shame you had to get baby checked in hospital but you did all the hard work where you wanted to be. Has he got a name yet?

JamInMyWellies · 22/12/2008 18:49

mmm LadyT i too know things about gary lineker.

Cat wow that was speedy.

Veggiemummy · 22/12/2008 19:06

Reban I was wondering when you might say something, I noted that you are a Villa fan. My only solice is that you above Manure, although they have games in hand. I don't think we will slaughter you I think you held back a bit in the Hammers match because you were taking it easy for our match. I usually love boxing day, so many games to keep an eye on but I am nervous this year.

My HV agreed with the minimal weight thing and was quite pleased to hear that MW had not weighed since birth. I think some MW's need to fill in numbers.

Veggiemummy · 22/12/2008 19:10

Oh that's should have been minimal weighing not weight.

artichokes · 22/12/2008 19:22

I also love Kevin McCloud. I have had more than one dream involving him and an outdoor jacuzzi.

How many hours out of 24 should a 4 day old sleep for? dd is always asleep (maybe 22 hours out of 24). Is that alot?

JamInMyWellies · 22/12/2008 19:35

Arti, DS2 is also sleeping masses at nearly 7days old. How is the feeding going sorry I meant to comment on your other thread but got waylaid by DS1. What did tiktok say re the feeding? Have you had the MW come to see you?

traceface · 22/12/2008 19:40

ok so for me it's Shakin' Stevens, Philip Schofield and Terry Wogan!

great to hear your birth story Cat!

am feeling a little odd this evening - I always get tearful at around 6pm - not sure why.And also have no apetite beyond lunch, which is very unlike me! Even chocolate is holding no appeal at the moment. But tonight I feel worried about dd2 - she did a huge vomit (much bigger than her normal efforts!) and just doesn't seem herself. I know that sounds daft coz I've only had her 11 days, so she doesn't really have a 'normal', but she just seems more unsettled and crying more, whereas she normally only cries for a feed. And now her breathing rate is quite high (about 70) but she's not struggling to breathe at all. I'm probably just imagining things but am starting to get really nervous about the night.

can someone slap me? A hug would only make me cry more!

traceface · 22/12/2008 19:51

oh and I went to get Arnica and started taking it for a day - 2 tablets every two hours initially...then realised I'd not bought arnica at all - I bought something called Apis Mel! No idea what it is or does, but I've had a day's worth anyway!

DisenchantedPlusBump · 22/12/2008 20:19

Oh theres LOADS of babies now!!!

Anyone else been wishing their baby out for weeks but now begging them to stay put till Friday at least?

I have a midwives appointment tomorrow, will be 39+5,

they MAY give me a sweep .... would you have one on dec 23rd???

I can't decide to or not!!!

What would you do?

reban · 22/12/2008 20:21

sorry cat being daft, just noticed you started your birth story with your new son's name - Thomas.

trace was it you who mentioned shakin stevens a while back? I must say that he was my first crush. I remember being about 7 or 8 and getting a tape recorder and shakin stevens greatest hits for christmas, i think it was around the time of his great classic 'merry christmas everyone' but i have def grown out of that Also re your LO being off today, you know your baby best but if you are worried give your midwife or out of hours doctors a ring xx

veggie i too love all the football on boxing day and if i had not been pregnant / with newborn (hopefully) i would have requested tickets as part of my xmas present. Its been a strange season for everyone this year, big teams under-performing, small teams doing crazily well ( i mean HULL?? and even Fulham being in the top half??) and for villa i think we should always do well but dont generally, but then i think we owe it all to Martin O'Neill, he is a god in my eyes!!

reban · 22/12/2008 20:23

disenchanted ive got hospital appt tomorrow and i know they will try and give me another sweep. Ive had two unsuccessful ones already and am 40+3 so i will def let them have a try!

katie3677 · 22/12/2008 20:27

Jam and Lady T, I too know a thing or two about Gary Linekar, and for whoever has a thing about Gordon Ramsay, he is absolutely lovely in RL, but truly devoted to Tana (I absolutely don't believe the press reports about an affair) so unlikely to be requited love I'm afraid.
I quite like Ben Fogle as well, and had a thing about Freddie Mercury and George Michael aged about 13, until I realised...

EffiePerine · 22/12/2008 20:32

Great birth story Cat - love the name Thomas

I don't see anyone now until (if) I go overdue, then it's the registrar at the hospital on 5 Jan. Hope I'm not still hanging around then!
