Just a quick post to say DS2 Jesse arrived on Fri 19th weighing eight lbs 6oz.12 days late! managed to avoid induction-maybe acupuncture works-and had fab birth in the water at the birthing centre. typing one handed as he feeds all the time so very tired

will read to catch up but congrats everyone else who has recently had their babies and good luck those waiting

rosmerta · 22/12/2008 08:43

Congratulations to all the new mums! Some fantastic birth stories there!

jolly what teats are you using? I recommend using the number 2 rather than number 1/newborn teats as the milk comes out a little bit faster. If its a bit slow then they can lose interest.

hugs to verso, hiccy and babblington. Hope you all feel better soon.

reban I agree with the name, I think its really nice!

trace thanks for the tip about propping ds2 on his side. He's been sleeping a bit better now. Plus we've been using the basket during the day as well so its not so odd when he goes into at night.

I've finally got round to uploading some pictures of my boys on my profile.

rosmerta · 22/12/2008 08:57

Ds2 has a follow up hearing screen today as when they did the first one they couldn't get anything from the left ear. Keep your fingers crossed its all ok!

JollyBear · 22/12/2008 09:53

Hello ladies,

Thanks for your advice ladyT and rosmerta. DD has fed much better the last couple of feeds, ie actually eaten something! We bought new bottles yesterday that the nurse recommended in the hospital (Dr Browns) and she seems to like those better (after a few false starts). We're going to buy some more of those today so we'll have a look at teats and get some bigger ones. I'll also get some of her formula ready made as she did gulp down the little bottles they give you in the hospital.

Fingers crossed she starts putting weight on now.

rosmerta I hope the hearing test goes well.

ladyT Getting chatted up a few weeks after giving birth! Lucky you !

chutneymary · 22/12/2008 09:57

Gitls, I am back . I have had SO many arguments with virgin media about my lack of broadband but it seems to be working on and off now. I haven't read much of the thread in the 2 weeks since I've been off, but have missed you all terribly. Congratulations to all who've had theirs, sympathies and labouring vibes to those waiting and love to you all.

Right, now to start reading.....

LadyThompson · 22/12/2008 10:53

Ooh, good luck Rosmerta. Let us know how it goes. They haven't tested my LO's ears yet, it's this lax health authority in Oxfordshire.

Glad things are improving, Jolly. Yes, my DD liked the ready made up bottles in hospital. (my sister claims she saw the bottles in Asda although the hospital said they weren't commercially available). The stuff in cartons is, I think, similar. Definitely experiment with the teats.

WELCOME BACK Chutney! Hoping all is going swimmingly xxx

Well, I didn't decorate the tree, glaze the turnips or tidy the bedroom last night. I had a huge nasty row with a relative who had told someone I very much did not want to know all about the existence of DP and my baby. That might sound incredibly weird but to tell you the background would fill a book (possibly more than one volume), and I am not usually a control freak about such things but this really did cause me immense distress, and I promise you I am not being nutty for the sake of it and have good reason. Furthermore the relative in question said the information was "in the public domain" [?] and that I shouldn't "censor" things that had happened to him. Well, oddly, I thought my private life and having a baby had kinda happened to ME Anyway, Verso, further to your post a week or so ago, if you DO find an effective way to process anger and resentment at the moment, do let me know I must admit that almost four weeks after the birth I am still finding that emotions of all kinds run rather high with me. Is that just me? On the plus side, I might have cried rather a lot but I have never laughed so much either. Emotions are all very near the surface.

Turniphead1 · 22/12/2008 11:27

Majormoo congrats on the birth of Jesse (LOVE the name!) and on getting your waterbirth and avoiding induction. Fantastic news!

Jolly really hope all the wise advice can get your LO more interested in her milk. I think if there is one thing that this thread shows is how fundamental the urge to feed our babies is, by whatever method and how upsetting it is when we feel they aren't eating enough. I have used Dr Browns and found them very good (esp for windy babies) - but boy are they a faff to wash (all those lottle bits). Best of luck though getting her back up to b/w.

LadyT I am incensed on your behalf at the insensitivity of your relative. But glad you enjoyed the Ivy and being "out in the world!" and indeed being chatted up. I remember being at a party last year with lots of 20 somethings and being chatted up and called a MILF really made my night. I am so far from a MILF right now, mind you!

I second Reban's advice to WG. The thought of a MiL descending immediately upon birth is definately stressful.

Kayz so glad DS2 is gaining weight!

LadyThompson · 22/12/2008 11:32

Oh yikes, yes, well done Major! And yes, Jesse is a fabbo name.

reban · 22/12/2008 12:34

welldone major on baby Jesse, so glad you avoided your induction. So maybe accuptuncture does work, im sure your not the only person who has gone into labour after it ... hmmm food for thought, i am now at 40+2 and getting really fed up. Baby has now gone past ds2's arrival, he was 40+1, ds1 was 40+3 and dd1 was 40+5. I really really thought baby no 4 would be earlier then the others, but what do i know??
Ihave also worked out i have now spent a full 36 months and 11 days pregnant in my life .. ireally must be MAD!!

waitinggirl · 22/12/2008 12:37

can i ask what a MILF is, please?

just spoke to my lovely godmother who insists that i am not being a bitch for not wanting my MIL in the hospital and who reckons 3-5 days post birth is a perfectly reasonable time to visit. feeling better - just have to urge DH to be firm with his mother.

had some acupuncture this morning in an effort to get things going - am only one day overdue, but acupuncture helped us to conceive (whether placebo effect or not, who cares), so thought it might help to get the little thing out, too.

reban · 22/12/2008 12:48

WG MILF is - "Mother I'd Like to F**K" !!!
so compliment from younger man!! And i certainly havent had one of those anytime recently!!

Gosh you're all at accupuncture, i really must look into it

LadyThompson · 22/12/2008 12:49

Acupuncture definitely works for pain. I have seen it happen and though I am sceptical bout a lot of stuff, why shouldn't messing about with pressure points alleviate pain? As for it working for other things, well, people on this thread seem to have done quite well with it!

MILF - Mother I'd Like to *uck

But is it better to be a Yummy Mummy or a MILF? I think we should be told.

waitinggirl · 22/12/2008 12:55

good lord!

Bisou · 22/12/2008 13:09

Hi all, I'm still here waiting

Have a 'well being' ultrasound tomorrow & MW appt where they might do another sweep to see if they can get things going. Got a bit worried last night when I thought I felt hands in front, and had one weird braxton hicks about 11hrs ago where my back hurt, so hope that's not a sign of things to come! Have been on all fours for most of tonight trying to encourage nice anterior position... fingers crossed. Has anyone here had back labour before?

rosmerta your DS' are adorable! Love the pics.

Orange fab birth story, thanks so much. Great to hear someone's experience of pethadine too. My DM had it with her first & thought it really helped her relax enough to get through. Everyone is different with their experience of course though. I'm lovin all these male MWs by the way!

SL hope the sweep gets things going for you. I think my first internal did a little with me; they only did a gentle sweep as I'm not engaged & they didn't want to risk rupturing the membranes. However after my appt I started getting heaps more braxton hicks & had my show finally on Sunday too. Still wish the little stubborn thing would engage though! I'm with you on that one IceCube - I'm 40 + 10 myself (ps: have we got you on the wrong date for the due list? Perhaps they work it out differently in the UK than they do here in Oz?) The more I look up info on engagement though, the more I realise it is actually quite common for babies not to engage before labour. Would they really take away your HB simply because you weren't engaged? Or is it more because they would have to induce you? I've opted for monitoring too (despite being offered induction this week) as I'm not officially 42 weeks till Christmas, but then I'll probably let them induce me on boxing day if I still haven't started labour naturally. Hope it doesn't come to that though.

effie congrats on the (almost) 10 years! I thought it would be something more substantial than tin though. They're funny those traditional anniversary gift suggestions, aren't they? My DH will prob get me a tin of baked beans or summink if we make it to 10!

WG I've started to worry about the descent of relatives post birth too. But DH and I have made a pact to be completely honest and upfront about telling everyone how we feel, and if it means telling them they can only stay for 1/2hr then so be it. It's then up to them if they want to travel so far for such a short visit. Hopefully your DH can find a way of breaking it to them gently that you need some time just the 3 of you getting to know each other in the first few days. At least that's what we'll be doing.

And finally, hurrah for majormoo! Another post-acupuncture baby!! I actually found out today that there's a lovely local acupuncture practice near where I live, and the woman specialises in birth treatments. So I've got a tentative appointment for tomorrow at 4pm. I've never had acupuncture before - I'm guessing you lie on your side when you're pregnant?

Bisou · 22/12/2008 13:12

wow cross posted with all the acupuncture talk. It'll be interesting to see if it works for either of us WG

artichokes · 22/12/2008 13:18

Morning All

I am soooo far from being a MILF right now. I do however have MASSIVE Bristols. They are a sight to behld. They never got near this size last time. However, they are far from yummy mummy material as they are rock hard. Little DD is just not that hungry. She sleeps all the time and will only ever suck for 5-10 mins. At this rate I will literally explode! Her latch is fine and BF is essentially going well its just she is so sleepy. I had to deliberatly wake her 3 times last night to try and get her to feed. Waking a baby at midnight, 2am and 5am really goes against all sane thinking but I was soaking through breat pads every 20 mins and had to sleep wrapped in a towel .

Any news from Bisou??? What a lovely time to go into labour (right after a nice romantic meal).

LadyT I am so glad you enjoyed the Ivy and I am at your potential pulling power. Sorry about your sod of a relative. Is he a close relative? Because if not I would wonder whether you need a person like that in your life?

Effie we will not let you get lonely at the end of the list. Try some acupuncture. It really did seem to work for me. Contractions started within hours of one treatment.

Rosmerta good luck with the ears. DD also has a follow-up appointment as her left ear failed the initial test. Apparantly it is very common.

Kayz good news about DS's weight gain. They have not weighed DD yet. My midwife says they will not until she is 6 days old otherwise she is bound to show weight loss. I am sure she has lost loads as she eats so little (see above).

JamInMyWellies · 22/12/2008 13:36

Accupuncture deffo works 3 and half hour labor, compared to 2 and half days with DS1!!!

WG my DP likes to call it MILK - Mum I Would Like to Know as I am only a MILF to him.

Bisou · 22/12/2008 13:42

I'm still here arti

I have to be... we're "overdue" (pardon the pun) for an updated birth list!

emmanbump · 22/12/2008 13:45

Congratulations Majormoo and TIH

Bisou · 22/12/2008 13:46

as always, please do let me know if I've accidentally missed anyone or gotten anything wrong.

Bisou · 22/12/2008 13:56

Ooh have just realised I'm next on the due list too! Just going from those people who have posted in the last couple of threads of course. Now that majormoo is with bub, and assuming that Nolda must have had hers by now too (she hasn't posted since the 12th and was due on the 5th) it surely must be my turn now...

LadyThompson · 22/12/2008 14:40

Thank Arti but he is a close relative. There was no malice intended. He was just incredibly stupid and thoughtless but it doesn't make it better, sadly.

Aha Bisou, still here!

There is something badly wrong with my hormones. In the past week I have realised I find Michael Ball quite attractive. And also... [worried gulp] Aled Jones. I have never had a bad taste celeb crush in my life before. Unless you count Keith Allen about fifteen years ago and anyway I think he could be counted as quite reasonable. Sorry to lower the tone

katie3677 · 22/12/2008 15:08

Haven't posted in a few days as I seem to either have a baby permanantly attached to my boob, or a toddler clinging to my leg!
Having a lovely day, DS has gone to his nursery Christmas party so I have cleaned the whole house, wrapped all his pressies and even managed to do some work.
Night times and feeding are going much better and dd has put on 5oz over the weekend so I am much more relaxed. Only problem now is getting her to go off to sleep in her cot/ moses basket as she will only fall asleep on me with nipple in mouth, which is proving painful. Any advice welcome.
Better go - DS is back and hyper from all the e-numbers, uh-oh.

traceface · 22/12/2008 15:10

LT you crack me up!!!!Aled Jones?!!!

Couldn't get on the computer yesterday because the inlaws were here...gggggrrr! Missed my MNing!
And something REALLY annoyed me, which I now remember REALLY annoyed me when dd1 was born aswell...my FIL insists on saying "the baby" all the time - he literally never uses her name! I know it's a tiny thing but it drives me mad! How would he like it if we called him "the pensioner" (he just turned 60!)?!

Well Lucy was in our church nativity yesterday and I was sooooooooooooooooo prooud of her. She was Angel 3 (!) and she had a little dance to do with the other angels, then she had a line to say...she managed to say the right thing at the right time in a big voice and I was so chuffed for her! [gushing mum emoticon]

Well Phoebe was weighed on day 5 and had gained 1oz, which the mw said was unusual because they should drop their weight at first. Anyway, she was re-weighed today (day 11) and has put on another 7oz in 6 days! So she's up at 7lb 11oz now! I knew she was a porker! At least there's something to show for her constant feeding other than the enormous bags under my eyes!!! Sorry for those with feeding issues - hope that's not
too mean of me to 'boast' about her weight gain...the down side is that I feel like I haven't slept for about a year and a half because she feeds 1-2 hourly day and night and my nips are starting to get a bit sore!

oooh visitor at the door - must dash, catch you later xxx
