Veggiemummy · 03/12/2008 15:30

we are watching cars at the moment Kayz so i can have a little rest although DS is running around lie a crazy man. he is def feeling better and has got his energy back, still loads of snot though.

SL they should def replace, cheeky things sending a pool with a puncture. Did yours come with an electric water pump. Ours says something about it in the instructions but it wasn't in the box. My MW is at the QMC hospital with her latest birth (not sure what happened but must have needed hospital transfer). I just spoke to her as veggiebabys movements have reduced a it, but i didnt ask her about the electric pump because i think she is a bit busy for that just now.

GettingBiggerBird · 03/12/2008 15:31

Veggie I'm afraid you may have missed the Ocado slots, I got sent an email for mine a couple of weeks ago and am booked in.

at the talk of birth pools, I loved using mine last time. I have mixed feelings about it this time - they will only let me use it for early first stage (need to monitor me after that), and TBH I would rather find that I'm past that by the time I get to the hospital.

Just managed a whole 90 minutes of proper quality time with DD, making Xmas decorations! Isn't itterrible that that's an achievement, I have been so useless for the last few weeks. Bad mummy ...

kayzisexpecting · 03/12/2008 15:37

Now trying to think about what I need to get for a HB.

I'm going to leave my bags packed as then we know where stuff is, like my tens machine and my lucozade. Also if we need to go to the hospital we don't need to repack it in a rush.

I'm going to need plastic sheets or something aren't I?

hiccymapops · 03/12/2008 15:40

Kayz my midwife told me to get a couple of cheap shower curtains and some sheets for the bed/floor, in case i don't want to use the pool.

SummerLightning · 03/12/2008 15:47

veggie I think it came with a pump, that's to get the water out afterwards isn't it? I am not sure if it was an extra though.

All I know is that DH dismantled the tap in the kitchen (we have a weird pully outy tap) and found it still didn't fit the attachment, and couldn't put it back together, sigh. Still, is good that he has tried these things out!!! I am not complaining really!

GBB - shrek! I love shrek!

JollyBear · 03/12/2008 15:51

Hello everyone,

Firstly, thanks very much to my secret stork , a most appropriate present for the jollycub! Thanks again.

lal and JJ it was great to hear your birth stories.

verso I'm from the wrong side of the pennines to make parkin really, but my Grandma is from Yorksire and she makes it. Bisou No parkin in Australia . You should introduce it!

Oh and verso how cute of your DD1

arti Sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly. Lets hope babyarti hangs on till you have recovered your energy.

Mibbes COngratulations! . I'm so pleased for you and Mr Mibbes. Can't wait to hear all about your little man.

penny My current favourite mince pies are from Bells. I'm not sure if they are available nationwide, they might be local mince pies for local people , although they sell them in Asda here.

beans Good luck! Hope things are moving for you.

turnip That poem is so lovely, it brought a lump to my throat.

abby Great news on the scan!

veggie Did you get the cats paw sorted out? If he won't let you look get your DH to wrap him in a towel whilst you check it over. He might have a splinter or something which you can remove without paying a fortune to the vet.

Well I slipped over on the ice today whilst getting a few bits from town. I can't tell DH about it and get any sympathy as he advised me not to bother going out as all yesterdays snow has just frozen into sheet ice. Thing is, not a single person came over to check I was OK. The street wasn't very busy but someone must have seen me fall . I felt rather sorry for myself.

kmp1 · 03/12/2008 16:01

Hi all,
had my 38wk and final M/W apointment today - it was a different M/W yet again - and the nicest one I've ever met!!! She was so nice about the elective-C and said TBH if I have much anxiety and stress about a natural labour then it'd more than likely end up in an emergency section anyway. Told me not to worry about anyone's opinions and that she will be having one herself one day! Anyway, all is well with babykmp and apparently is 3-4/5ths engaged still but not totally yet. 6 days to go and think I have got all the stuff needed for hospital today so guess I should put it in a bag! MIL has bought even more nappies and stuff so I think I'm totally covered for the first 3 months!
Veggie hope your cat is ok? And Arti hope you get better before babyarti comes? I'm still going to look out for your secret wink on the ward if you end up in at the same time as me!!

Veggiemummy · 03/12/2008 16:14

oh JOlly that is a good idea, i was trying to look at it and he took a swipe at me. So will wrap him up when DH gets home.

Kayz-our MW is bringing all our waterproof stuff and we have loads of old towels which we are going to use (as well as old camping mats on the floor so my knees dont get sore on the floorboards) but as well as the shower curtains someone on here said that B&Q do big plastic sheets.

I think the MW has a powerful electric pump so i guess she was hoping the other lady would be finished with it. Do they do other connectors for the taps. We really better try ours out tonight.

kayzisexpecting · 03/12/2008 16:21

Thanks Veggie and Hiccy I will look on the B&Q website now. We have a couple of harware type shops here that might sell them.

We do have 2 huge old curtains that we use as dust sheets for decorating. I suppose we could put those on the floor too.

Veggiemummy · 03/12/2008 16:22

i'm glad you had a nice MW KMP and she is right, loads of anxiety and fear can mess things up. i hope she is there on the day.

Oh here i go again, i'm in tears. i have just seen 'the secret life of bees' is going to be on from this friday at the cinema. I read the book when DS was just born usually while i was breastfeeding him. It is written by a lady who into the divine feminine which i got a bit into when i was pregnant with DS and the story is a really powerful study of all the attributes of the feminine. Anyway i know that sounds a bit airy fairy but it is a really lovely and heart rending story and i'm so excited it is on at the movies, will have to see if i can see it this weekend.

emmanbump · 03/12/2008 16:22

Oh Jolly Can't believe no one came to see if you were ok how you doing now?

zoejeanne · 03/12/2008 17:00

Hello everyone,

Congratulations to mibbes on the safe arrival of baby Evan ? glad all is well now and hope the emergency CS wasn?t too scary.

Kayz ? sorry for worrying you last night and then leaving to go to bed, it was very insensitive of me. It must just be Brid that have that policy ? they made a right to do at my booking in, making me sign a form saying I understood that I couldn?t just turn up and if I did I wasn?t their responsibility and couldn?t sue them ? if you?d had the same at Malton then I?m sure you?d remember it! Although I did wonder, what happens to ladies in labour who still haven?t given birth by 5pm ? do the MW?s go home and tell her to keep her legs shut til 9am the next morning?! And I?m worrying about the journey to Scarborough too, with this bad weather ? we have to go via Staxton Hill ? not good in snow and ice. If the weather is bad when I go into labour I?ll going straight there from contraction number 1 and refuse to leave I think (the alternative is getting FIL to take me in his tractor, the new one with the passenger seat, but I really don?t fancy that ) I think you and DH have made a wise choice with the homebirth

And cat ? well done for getting that homebirth, you show that MW!

A show for emma and some leakage for beans ? hope you?re both doing ok today? Very exciting for you both.

Arti ? I hope you?re feeling better today and the virus passes quickly ? really not what you need when labour is imminent, you poor thing.

Verso ? poor poor you, losing a layer of skin, sounds awful! But I would definitely forgive DD2 for those lovely 3 hour sleeps ? hope they last.

I?m sad to hear about baby Hope not surviving being separated from Faith ? I?ve got really attached to this story and how brave the whole family is. I have my fingers crossed now for Faith, and for strength for the rest of her family.

Turnip ? what a beautiful verse, thank you for sharing, its made me and all at the same time!

Abby ? pleased the scan went well for you

On tiramisu ? my friend makes a really fab one as it?s her DH favourite ? despite not liking it herself. She never tries the ones she makes and they are always always are yummy scrummy.

SL ? I?ve been having period type pains for a bit too, but also had them very early on and the Dr said it was just my womb adjusting, so I?m hoping it?s the same this time ? and for you too, so you can enjoy your birthday and some ML before baby SL arrives!

Jollybear ? I hope you suffered nothing more than bruised pride when you slipped today, but it?s not on that no one helped, tut.

I?m just trying to decide whether to venture out this evening ? there?s an antenatal pamper evening (free massages, food, advice and chit chat) that I want to go to (they?re only on every 3 months) ? but the roads are icy, so I don?t know if I?ll be happy driving. Maybe should stay in and do some de-stressing yoga instead ? but it doesn?t have the same appeal.

kayzisexpecting · 03/12/2008 17:12

Zoe That is so funny. Go by tractor it would be great!!!

I like the sound of the antenatal pamper evening but the getting there might put me off. Can you get a lift there at all?

zoejeanne · 03/12/2008 17:14

Would I win a prize on MN for most original birth story if I went by tractor!!

Turniphead1 · 03/12/2008 17:18

Zoe you so would! and I would personally send you a purize if you did it whilst singing "I've got a Brand New Combine Harvester" in between contractions...

kayzisexpecting · 03/12/2008 17:20

Yeah you'd have to sing that!!

You would make the front page of all the local newspapers.

zoejeanne · 03/12/2008 17:22

I'll get practising my singing for you all ...

kayzisexpecting · 03/12/2008 17:45

I started a thread about things I need for a HB and something that has come up twice now is a bottle of champange. I like the sound of this HB even more now.

Veggiemummy · 03/12/2008 17:54

we have a bottle already, but i have just seen that Duval-leroy is half price (i just can't remember where hope to see the ad again and will write it down this time) so told DH i want some of that as yum yum esp as i will have done all that pushing.

abbymeg · 03/12/2008 17:57

Zoe please tell me there would be another way around? I hate driving up and down Staxton Hill in decent weather, let alone in ice and snow. I'm assuming they would grit it well, but even so. Is there not an alternative route?

kayzisexpecting · 03/12/2008 18:00

I am really cheap!!! I have a bottle of Babycham in the fridge. I love it and it is on offer at only £1.55!!!

abbymeg · 03/12/2008 18:03

Jolly It's amazing how ignorant people have become. I have continually marvelled at things I've read on here about not been given seats on trains and on buses; and now a heavily pregnant woman falls and is ignored. It makes me feel really, really sad. And these people are the ones who probably complain about how things have gone downhill in the country and attitudes aren't what they were.

Beans33 · 03/12/2008 18:03

Sorry guys, haven't read all posts from today - I've been at Tommy's all day!

I'm completely knackered, but it wasn't my waters breaking, disappointingly! I've got really really watery discharge (gross, sorry TMI), which even the doctors examining me thought was the amniotic fluid. But I'd put in one of those colour reactive pads, luckily, which showed that it wasn't waters. Otherwise I'd be being induced in 36 hours!!

Anyway, I had to wait 5 hours to be seen - bloody awful. I actually felt really sorry for them all - the hospital is completely full and they're having to turn people away. Awful! So in some ways, quite glad it's not my time yet!!! But it's only temporary, as there's a high turnover. So no one going to St Thomas's panic just yet!!! She told me to try and keep my contrations off for a couple more days!

Anyway, baby 3/5ths engaged, which is good. But cervix is completely shut, so no action. DAMN! Oh well.

Veggiemummy · 03/12/2008 18:03

well you can 10 bottles Kayz, for the sugar you'll need after all that work that is.

kayzisexpecting · 03/12/2008 18:09

I am tempted to get a few more bottles. It only seems to come out for Xmas. So I could store a few.
