Here's a new link for us all - think it needed doing asap as running out of space!!

I hope this is ok for everyone?

OP posts:
Bisou · 01/12/2008 13:57

beans, just in the nick of time! Well done

artichokes · 01/12/2008 13:59

Looks great - hope everyone still reads the last few messages from previous thread as I am desperate for opinions on whether I am about to pop!

Beans33 · 01/12/2008 14:02

Gosh, arti - I don't know I'm afraid. Being a first-timer myself, I'm worried about giving advice wrongly!!

OP posts:
Bisou · 01/12/2008 14:03

Why don't you repost arti? We've got a whole new thread to fill up! wheeeeeee

traceface · 01/12/2008 14:04

no idea arti! My mw said 'established labour' is from 4cm and that's when you can go into hospital, but I've no idea as to whether 2cm-4cm takes a few hours or several days! How was the sweep? I have probably got to have one on Friday - did it hurt?

Bisou · 01/12/2008 14:06

And here... I give in to the list obsession:

Veggiemummy · 01/12/2008 14:08

Arti, when i read that Ina may Gaskin book there were a few women in there that were 2 cm dilated up to a week before they started labour, so well it will happen soon but i don't think you have started yet. i know this annoying to hear, but you do know when it's happening.

Veggiemummy · 01/12/2008 14:10

oh and Bisou, glad to hear you've got your tree up, i want to go out later and get a tree. However most of the places that sell trees around here don' have them available until the 5th. I think it must only be an australian tradition to put the christmas decorations up on the 1st. I have to say i don't know if DS's heart will be in it as he is still quite unwell, we are on the sofa watching Madagascar for the 2nd go in a row. At least i have gotten him off Cars, for now. I am also going to have to go out and get him some yoghurt and rice pudding as it is all he wants to eat today.

JollyBear · 01/12/2008 14:13

Thanks for the new thread beans bisou I've had something similar to what you describe, it isn't hiccups because as you said, I can feel those really clearly. I thought it might be the baby practicing breathing. I have no evidence to back it up with though!

I'm afraid I can't help either arti. Being an inexperienced first timer and all!

Oh and re the secret stork... the postman has put a 'sorry you were out' card through my door which I think must be my secret stork . I was in though which is frustrating as I can't collect it for 48 hours!

katie3677 · 01/12/2008 14:17

Arti, I'm afraid that most people are dilated up to about 2cm for a couple of weeks up to the birth so probably not imminent.
Thanks for the new thread Beans. Was hoping I might manage to have my baby on the last thread, but at this rate, by the time I get round to announcing we'll have moved on another three!
I'm feeling alot more positive today, and actually excited that my baby will be here in 2 days! Had a lovely w/e with DS, taking him to meet live reindeers etc, and all you wise Mums out there are right with your various bits of advice, so thanks for making me feel better.

traceface · 01/12/2008 14:18

well I've packed dds bag for if she needs to be shipped off somewhere - only took a few minutes because she doesn't really need anything! PJs, undies, change of clothes...she spends quite a lot of tie in the company of her imaginary friends at the moment (Mr Nobody, Ballerinacorn and Marticorn???!!) so at least I don't have to remember to pack them!

Bisou · 01/12/2008 14:19

arti I wish I knew, but I'm a first timer too so no help, sorry.

I did want to say though Verso that if you continue to have problems with BF, you may also want to get them to check for tongue tie? I know this can often go undiagnosed, but can be a cause of difficulty with latch. I've actually got it myself, and only discovered/realised it since reading up on BF (I have a very mild case). No wonder I can't do certain singing excercises well though - there's a blimmin bit of tendon (or whatever it is) holding my tongue too tight.

veggie I didn't realise 1st of Dec tree decorating was an Oz tradition - TBH I think DH just gets sick of me asking all the time so he just lets me put it up as long as it's December. I just love the fairly lights. I would decorate my whole house with them if I could! Hope DS is feeling better super fast so you can both have fun getting in the Christmas spirit too.

Bisou · 01/12/2008 14:24

veggie also wanted to say that we use a fake tree so that's why we can do it so early. There aren't any real ones here yet either. I do love how real trees smell, but feel a bit bad when it comes to 'chuck out' time. Although I think they are more eco about how they grow/harvest/recycle them now.

JB glad to hear I'm not the only one with the pulsating thing! I wondered whether it might be breathing practice too. It's strange isn't it?

I'd better get to bed - almost 1.30am here. Have a lovely day everyone!

poisondwarf · 01/12/2008 14:24

Wow that birth list is already looking mighty impressive & we're only just starting December. Can we have an updated due list pretty please?

arti I think the others are right - 2cm doesn't necessarily mean much other than you're headed in the right direction (and I don't think it makes a difference that it's not your first, but I could be wrong). Doesn't mean labour's not imminent either though ... have you had any other signs? I'm surprised they gave you a sweep at 39 weeks actually - I remember being quite taken aback when they offered me one on my due date last time. What's the big hurry?

Beans33 · 01/12/2008 14:28

I fear I may be addicted to Diagnosis Murder. It's so bad it's good. Anyone else watching it??!!

OP posts:
poisondwarf · 01/12/2008 14:31

Yes Verso I was going to say the same as Bisou about the tongue-tie. It's my pet obsession and I would urge all of you to make sure it's checked for and checked for again (lots of health professionals think it doesn't interfere with breastfeeding and so may notice it but not mention it, but they are wrong). DS's tongue tie wasn't diagnosed until 6 weeks (corrected at 7 weeks) and we had a terrible time of it which lasted until 3 months when I was able to exclusively breastfeed him. I'm still so angry at how it could have been missed, and it will be one of the first things I check for when DD is born - I am NOT going through that hell again.

rosmerta · 01/12/2008 14:32

beans thanks for the new thread, love the title!

arti with ds I was dilated for about a week before he finally decided to make an appearance! Probably not what you wanted to hear though!

veggie we haven't put up our xmas tree yet, usually do it around a week beforehand. But ds & I have been making lots of decorations to go on. No colour-coordinated decor for me this year!

kayzisexpecting · 01/12/2008 14:33

Thanks for the new thread Beans.

I have hardly no bump now. It seems to have moved completely south. There is no bum in my ribs!! But I have what feels like a watermelon between my legs. I am hoping it means he wont be long. I don't like looking like a cowboy when I walk.

Arti I'm not too sure really. I am sorry I am feeling useless.

Woohoo for lists

Thanks for all your advice. I don't mind if it means nothing as I feel so crappy. Might go to bed for a bit.

PD - I am not sure why the swept me. It was a consultant (I am seeing her weekly as I had pre-eclampsia last time). I think she has a very medicalised approach and basically thinks it is better to get the baby out incase I get sudden onset pre-e again. As long as she does not try for induction I don't mind. There is no way I want anothe induction - it was hellish.

Trace - the sweep was less painful than I thought they were meant to be. It was very uncomfortable and it felt like a badly done smear but that was it. I am bleeding a bit now though.

poisondwarf · 01/12/2008 14:40

whoops!

Bisou · 01/12/2008 14:48

haha I have list competition

pd my mum said that I was the only one of the 4 of her children that she had problems with BF, and that when I was given a bottle I resolutely refused breast ever again. So I agree with you, it's really important to have tongue tie checked for, it should be standard procedure with all newborns if the mums want to BF. You can still have it snipped as an adult too I believe... and I've wondered since finding that out if it would make a my singing any better. Don't think I'm that keen to find out at this stage now though!

Ok... I really am going to bed now!

EffiePerine · 01/12/2008 14:51

Wow, another new thread!

Re signs of labour, would agree with everyone else. Also, although prelabout can go on for a while it might not - with DS I had a show late one night, niggly contractions through the day then to the hospital at 1am to find I was 5 cm dilated (DS born 3 hours later). I asked the mw when I should go in as I didn't want to leave it too late (due to the ABs) and she pointed out that she couldn't tell when I would be in labour! I was nearly turned away from the hospital last time as they didn't think I was having proper contractions (could still talk and stuff), luckliy they did an internal and let me stay, or DS would have been born in a taxi somewhere
