Great news on the scans all

Am def going to try the chilli thing 5 people off in my department today and I have been coughed on by about a hundred kids. Roll on Friday and the end of term!

EmmalinaC · 15/12/2008 18:37

Thanks everyone! Hope the others got on ok.

All this talk of spicy food has got me in the mood for a curry - so we're having one delivered.

Our scan today was with a consultant and we asked him about the boy/girl heartbeat theory. He said that there is probably some truth in it but that the margin of overlap is so great as to mean it's not considered a reliable indicator.

Also we booked our hospital antenatal refresher course which is on 16th April at St Helier. I think someone else is already booked on it - Febes maybe?

Febes · 15/12/2008 19:24

I am booked on a refresher at st heliers I'll check its the april one. it will be great to meet you there EmmaC!!

pulapula · 15/12/2008 19:41

I can't do the chilli thing as I don't like spicy things and avoid chillies full stop.

I am excited as i picked up my phil and teds from my friends today. I paid £100 for it which is a lot cheaper than buying off ebay and includes raincover, panier bags and baby cocoon. Its heavier than i imagined to carry when folded, but easy to manouvre. My DD and DS seem to love it too and have tried it out (just up and down the hall lol).

FiKelly · 15/12/2008 22:30

Sorry not been on much for the last week... DH was in a real grot of a mood for a few days last week and his grumpyness & pickyness eventually wore me down so I had a day of feeling really blue & bubbling tears for most of last thursday... DS was also out of sorts and I was pretty sure he was brewing some kind of bug. Of course all his night-time going to sleep shenanigans were all my fault as according to DH I was apparently not feeding him very nutritious food & according to DH that was definitely the problem. OK so DS had eaten breaded lemon sole goujons & home baked potato style chips for tea twice in a fortnight as DH was away and I'd been late back with the weekly food shopping and needed to do a quick meal for us... but I wouldn't class it as junk food (like DH did). Everything else we eat I make from scratch for every meal...I felt really deflated and picked on as no matter what I said it wasn't right.

Turns out I was right as DS does have another cold virus and he's shared it with me. So after just getting rid of my last cold 2 wks ago I've now had a sore throat, hacking cough & streaming nose since saturday. DS is feeling better I think as he's going to bed happier and sleeping through again. I'm trying not to wet myself everytime I cough .

I'm truly delighted to read everyone's scan news and just can't wait for the 23rd dec when we have our 20wk scan & meet the consultant. Hopefully LO will be in a good position to see what we're having too... and see if our 140s heartbeat or my gut instinct of a girl is right!

Sorry for the huge post!

delightedoldbag34 · 15/12/2008 23:07

Hi fi well, mine was a 180 bpm minimum heartbeat (usually faster) which is supposed to indicate girl and he's a boy!
[pulls brown bag hiding identity from head - it's Frazzled!)
Poor you to be having a moody DH - unfortunately I can sympathise, mine is a nightmare at the mo. Not sure what's going on.
Also sorry to hear DS isn't well, (and you too), and again I can sympathise - my DD's have both been ill since Fri with cold, coughs and sore throats and today DD2 got sent home from nursery with a high temp - she was fine this morn and thought she was better but by 3pm she was burning up. Fine now though - the marvellous magic of the Calpol! Am just waiting to catch it now - just in time for Christmas
I'd go with your gut instinct (mine has been right with all 3 pg's) despite the heartbeat, high/low bump rubbish. And it is rubbish! Hope you get your girl if that's what you're hoping for - 23rd Dec isn't long to wait now.
Off to bed soon. DH has already gone, huffing cos I wasn't joining him. Well, he's so grumpy I'd really rather not! (Hope this isn't because baby is a boy and not a girl - am a bit worried he's struggling to deal with it, esp as I'm so happy). If so though thank GOD I found out and told him, wouldn't like to be dealing with this mood and a newborn at the same time......
or maybe it's nothing to do with it.

And why do men have no involvement in Christmas? He has NO CLUE what I've got for anyone, including the DD's and when I try to discuss it with him he really isn't interested and wanders off. Grrrr. Do all men do this?

delightedoldbag34 · 15/12/2008 23:08

Sorry, didn't mean to type 180 - should say 160! (180 bpm would be very worrying)
Dur, where are my brain cells.

Morning Ladies.

Scan went well. I have uploaded the pic onto my profile (2nd one down). We were in there for about 25mins altogether. He/she didn't want to show it's face, kept covering it with it's hands, so the lady told me to go to the toilet and jump up and down a few times. It worked and she could finish the checks.
It was thrashing about like a good un, and we held out and didn't find out the flavour.
DH said he was glad we were going to have a surprise, even tho he wanted to find out at first.

BIG SIGN OF RELIEF!!

LoobyLou36 · 16/12/2008 07:49

Dh birthday today he's 39. We were goin to go out tonight but decided after good news yesterday to go out last night.
So tonight I'm cooking my chicken and spinach vindaloo which is one of his favourites anyway.

delightedoldbag34 · 16/12/2008 08:44

Looby - I just read that as 'so I'm cooking my children a spinach vindaloo' and went !!! hee hee. Congrats on the scan - that's great news.

Dandy - well maybe our husbands are grumpy cos it's Christmas but in the case of mine he has no Christmas related stress in his life WHATSOEVER - we aren't buying presents for each other this year so he doesn't have to do that, I do ALL the shopping, card writing and wrapping up and all I've asked him to do (last week) was buy vouchers online for his parents (which would take approx 5 mins). And guess what he hasn't done it! Even though these particualr vouchers need to be posted to us. So yes, he may be stressed about Christmas but I really don't see how he possibly can be. He doesn't even know what 'we' are getting the kids for Christmas!
And if he is, that's just pathetic. He should try doing all the above, looking after 2 kids, running his own business and being PREGNANT at the same time. Then he'd know what stressed was!

Sorry, not ranting at you. May just print this out and leave it where DH can read it though

God am in a vile mood this morn. Haven't had a decent nights sleep in ages due to DD's with their coughs and high temps and been up since 6.30 trying to get DD2 to eat some breakfast. I made her porridge (her request), then cereal, then toast and then finally pancakes (her final request) with syrup on. Then she didn't eat any. Eventually ate a tiny bit of toast and announced 'I finished'.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Oh god, what a moany old cow I sound.
Am just knackered

Have a nice day ladies. Am off for a shower now.x

EmmalinaC · 16/12/2008 09:41

LoobyLou so pleased your scan went well! And well done for holding out and not finding out the sex - means you've got a lovely surprise still to come.

delighted sorry your day has got off to such a bad start. Hope you feel better after your shower!

I'm at work again today - last day before Christmas - and I'm really not in the mood. Last week we bought loads of posh mince pies to send to our customers and we've got lots left in the office. Just wondering if it's too early to tuck in?

FiKelly · 16/12/2008 09:52

delighted i too do all the christmas stuff... buying of presents for all, putting up decorations, taking parcels to the post office & writing of cards etc. The only stuff DH has done is the thing he likes... wrapping some of the parcels. I suspect his bad mood is more to do with lack of hanky panky... but that'll have to wait until i'm feeling better and he's not ranting at me for silly stuff like not putting a stupid biro back in its pot etc... doesn't really put me in the right mood. His job is relatively safe as he now works for HM revenue & customs in criminal investigations and really enjoys it... his previous inland rev job was a bit dicey so he changed departments last year.

Looks like i'm loosing my voice now... It's all squeeky! Taking my mum to do her food shopping soon so off to get DS dressed (will be a small battle as he loves to run around in just his vest). BTW my DS is a lovely boy... quite calm and very giggly most of the time. Loves puzzles etc & to kick balls with daddy and not too rough and tumble either... unlike some of our pals DS's. He takes after us so your DS will no doubt take after you and also love having 2 big sisters to look out for him...

delightedoldbag34 · 16/12/2008 10:02

Aaah fi you've made me feel all squidgy about my little DS. Want him now, don't want to wait another 20 wks!

Yes, also I think you've hit the nail on the head with the lack of 'action'....... but TBH even now I'm feeling more in the mood for it I don't want to do it with him cos he's so bloody grumpy and narky.....viscous circle. And desperation (him) is never a good look (IYSWIM).

We're going out for a nice dinner with friends on Sat night - maybe that'll cheer us up a bit.

delightedoldbag34 · 16/12/2008 10:05

BTW emmalina thanks - and no, I don't think it's too early to be tucking into the mince pies! It's Christmas after all.....

EmmalinaC · 16/12/2008 10:55

I think my DH is a rarity - he is a proper Christmas elf! He buys almost all the presents (including for my family!) and gets cross if I even think about putting up decorations without him. The only thing he doesn't help with is food - and that's only because I love cooking and won't let him.

But actually he is a little grumpy this year. I think you might be right FiKelly - I probably need to look after him a bit better...

MsG · 16/12/2008 11:39

SweetBroody, hope your dad's ok.

Congrats to all of you who've had scans - how exciting! Mine's ages away - Jan 9th! Saw midwife yesterday and listened to the heartbeat which was lovely.

I had been feeling better after my weepiness and tempers last week, but had a major crying fit/temper this morning. I think it's because I'm so tired. My midwife thought I was maybe doing too much with my course and cos of my shifts, but the course is nearly finished and this week is the last one before Christmas so that's good.

x

SweetBROODY · 16/12/2008 11:55

MsG mines on the 9th Jan as well.. the one i'll have today is to see if baby's heart is ok.

Dad's ok - it keeps me busy.. so dont really think about baby to much.. I am so scared today though...

Xmas will be a none event if he isnt home in time...

I really appreciate all of your good wishes though.. thank you ladies..

trying to find a cheap mini break for Jan/Feb/March so can relax with DH before baby arrives.. just so hard with the way money is behaving at them moment.

Afternoon all,

After packing DD and DS (still not himself but well enough!) to nursery and getting into work at the last minute at 10am, I got a call at 11.15 to go and collect DS as he has developed a rash which has to be checked by a doctor before they will allow him in.

I'm sure its a viral thing but have the delights of the doctors waiting room for the second day running, no doubt to pick up some more viruses (i'm coming down with a cold today i think).

Sorry, am in a bit of a grump myself today although DH started it last night. I was planning some xmas shopping at lunchtime today which is now out of the window. Running out of time...

JosieC · 16/12/2008 14:29

Had my scan yesterday and all seemed well which was a big relief. We're having a little boy which was a huge shock to me for some reason but am really excited!
At the scan the baby was very camera-shy and first would only show us his back, then moved a little but covered his face with his hands.... so the ultrasonographer had to press pretty hard for some of the measurements - my tummy was sore for about 3-4 hours afterwards - this is my first baby so was wondering from people who have had this before if this is normal? Can't help but feel a bit worried about him being so prodded ! Thanks!

LoobyLou36 · 16/12/2008 14:32

josiec my first baby too. I went for my scan yesterday too and the sonographer was a bit rough to get the measurements etc. had a few aches and pains afterwards so don't think this is unusual.
